There is no better everyday cruising vehicle comfort wise, it is so smooth! Now all I want is a newer range rover. I am really looking into a 2017 RRS L405's now.
This is literally how I felt before changing to a RR recently. I came from an Alfa Giulia Veloce. I needed more room, the Stelvio didn’t have a wow factor inside for me. All other SUVs were incredibly boring. But I went with a RR Velar V6 and in my opinion it’s design and lines of the car is even more special than the normal RR. Amazing cars, but they definitely get under your skin and that can be costly, but imo definitely worth it for the driving experience, which is unmatched. Enjoy!
Very interesting to hear your perspective from the angle of not wanting to like it! Just demonstrates that many of the Range Rover naysayers out there need to drive one/live with one first before drawing conclusions! Fingers crossed it’s a painless ownership experience for you!
Yep, I’ve been very judgemental of them over the years as excessive and unnecessary which in many ways is still true but I can’t deny the appeal anymore 🙈
I actually really like this model of Range Rover. The ‘wanker tank’ image of SUV’s really puts me off them in general, but I totally get why you’d end up really liking it for all the reasons you explained. Great review as always 👍
Things like the fullsize RR, discovery, Land Cruiser, X5, and Cayenne get the pass imo because they’re actually useful as far as towing and off road are concerned

you can buy parts surprisingly cheap from Britpart, LR Direct and others. Dont buy from a dealer and there are landrover specialists offering servicing much cheaper than GBP600.
Nice review Ben…. Relocate your OBD port. It saved my Discovery 4 a couple of times. Yes, it won’t cheapen your insurance or stop them trying, but your car will be there when you return. Costs nothing and takes minutes….. the Ghost is excellent and maybe you can get a sponsored deal but at full price they are quite prohibitive for a 15k older vehicle. They do make sense for a 100k car though of course!

My dad told me that once you have a FFRR, you'll never stop thinking about them. The best, worst car you can own. I got one, I agree. Just different in a way which is hard to explain, despite the costs.
Currently on the look out for one of these. 2015 onwards. Never done so much research into buying a car and I’m still a bit nervous 😅. Being a mechanic should keep the service and general repair costs down. Which will leave money to cover the price of parts when the big stuff breaks 💀.
Matt from High Peak Autos channel has good advice - always leave a couple of £000's for ongoing maintenance / repair costs when buying RRs. Don't think you will be able to skimp
@@daiwatkins1984 even the big stuff isn’t too bad. My rear differential has just started to complain. Took it to a local specialist and they could confirmed my suspicions. The diff comes in at £2700, not bad considering it’s the locking diff. Needs a “special tool” literally a piece of 10mm plate cut to resemble a spanner with a 3/8 drive hole at the end for removing and torquing the prop shaft to the pinion nut. That’s £300 alone, if you can get one. If you did the diff yourself there is a £600 refundable surcharge so could cost as little as £2100.
I share your opinions on SUVs. However, the Range Rover, pre-dates the term SUV by decades. It's a proper, purpose built luxury offroader that has serious ability. It is not a jacked-up road car with an inflated body. It's ok to dislike SUVs but still like Range Rovers. I had a late 4.4TDV8 L322 and in many ways enjoyed owning that as a toy more than my C6 RS6. The RS6 is mental fast and sounds fantastic and I love it. But the Range Rover was just such a nice place to be and was so versatile. You need to get yourself a decent steering wheel lock - stoplok pro or disclock to reduce theft anxiety
@@dadcars the RS6 is fabulous. Superb and I love it. Only slight criticism is the ride is a bit firm and it does like a drink. Mind you, on a motorway run it can average 28mpg if you're careful on the loud pedal.
Jeez Ben, whats happened? you've changed😂 Funny you should mention theft anxiety, I had that myself a couple of weeks ago, so much so i pulled out of buying a car i'd love to own. That's what my wife and i call the Avantime. We both love it. I watched James's video he did with the Avantime. Stay safe and take care.
Put a Lotus Evora 2010 on the list? Prices getting sensible and an alu tub chassis will make for some good videos....only half the weight of the RR. lol
Love the fact you're in the throws a being converted😂, i had a 2015 sdv8 autobiography and i spent about £4500 in 2 years on maintenance which included a new oil cooler and front lower control arms both of which you're gonna end up doing soon. The rest was 6 services in 20k miles as too many short runs was messing up the oil, but the mrs loved it and the kids loved it and i couldn't imagine owning anything else now which is why we've just upgraded to a 2017 5.0 sc autobiography with all the options 😂
@dadcars honestly these cars aren't as scary as people make them out too be, find yourself a good independent specialist ( who frankly seem too know more than the jlr dealers) and you'll be no worse off than running a q7 or x5 both of which have there own issues. I'm like you, a massive petrol head with young kids and I want to let them learn the emotions we attach to the cool cars we own, they love seeing what nutty thing I buy next🤣🤣
Please don’t talk down the 3 ltr. I bought my 3 ltr because of 2 things. Firstly the tax. For mine it’s £385. Secondly it’s the economy. I regularly commute between Kent and the Yorkshire Dales and I average 44 mpg!!! It just rolls along at the maximum permitted speed, in supreme comfort, whisper quiet, sipping diesel. I love it!
I’ve a v8 l405, my third rangie, i’ve had them for 12 years. My other car is a 911 turbo - sorry but v8 RRs are undisputed best all round cars, ever. If you know you know. Although the previous model was more fun - you had to really drive it, scandy flick it into bends, where as the l405 is more forgiving and car like, lost some majesty
As a car trader I’ve had many. Love them, but I have to say the X5M is good competition for them. Thing is though, because they handle so much better they make you want to drive faster which imo is the best thing about the range - you just want to relax. I normally drive everything flat out constantly, but range is the only car I don’t do that.
Quick!! Ben needs an interesting Dadcar to review again 😂 On a serious note, there is a point in life where being able to chill out in comfort starts to trump a few things 😅 and that’s also why multi car driveways exist 😈
Must be £795 for this massive range rover. The V50's with the 5 cylinder turbo engine got hit with the highest road tax, makes them almost worthless now.
My family was very sceptical when at first when I brought home a FFRR. We have always been into bmw. My wife still pretends she hates it. My daughter coined the name that sticked. Tractor. But they love it. We all love it.
Great video Ben as usual. Left field question. I am looking to buy a forward facing car seat for my 2 year old grand daughter. It looks like your daughter was seated in a car seat with an integrated air bag, possibly a Cybex Anoris T2? I was just wondering if she was comfortable in the seat, and whether the research I am sure you undertook convinced you as to the value of air bag integrated seats? Many thanks.
Great question, this was my first use of it. I’ve got another video coming out tomorrow where I use it again in another car. I’m actually really impressed with it.
There’s a lot of snobbery around SUV’s. I drive a model X (I’m sure there will be eye rolls at that) but it’s bloody brilliant. Rapid, very practical, no road tax or luxury car tax, £7.50 to fully charge and gets about 280-300 miles. Not sure I’d be getting Santa Fe or similar but fun can be had in the fast ones . If I was single I wouldn’t buy one but when you have kids and dogs they work. Also, no engine block to destroy my legs in event of a head on collision. And no, they don’t just randomly burst into flames.
Good for you I’m glad you enjoying your model x and when you get in a head on collision your legs will be saved. That’s the good thing about life we all entitled to get and do what we want with our lives and all should be celebrated even if preferences differ
Yeah, that's the way it is with Range Rovers. They're comfortable, awe-inspiring and glorious. Until something goes pop and empties your wallet. Still you've had good Luck with Masaratis and Astons, which can also be disasters. So best of Luck!

Well I bought a used 2013 RRSS (L320) with 86k miles for $12,500 USD. I can honestly say it is hands down my favorite daily driver. There is no better everyday cruising vehicle comfort wise, it is so smooth! Now all I want is a newer range rover. I am really looking into a 2017 RRS L405's now.
On the subject of theft proofing, just disable the keyless entry! And do what my local RR dealer does, fit a steering lock! Simples!
It’s incredibly comfortable to drive and has impressed me so much.
My mate just bought one and he LOVES it. I hated big cars too but have an L322 now and I love it 😅
What’s happening to us 🙈😭
@@dadcars Getting old before our time!
Had mine 8 years never had any big issues and defo never had to spend 2k a year on serving just a give it the big service every year @ £500 replacing all the filters oil etc
Wow that’s great to hear
@@dadcars and with regards to the back box on your vid yesterday get the rear silencer’s deleted should cost around £240 transforms the sound of the car
I hope you make it safely to any upcoming northern destinations, if you take this Ben! 😁🦊
That engine was awesome!! Great video...
Thanks Jack! Yeah it’s inconveniently good isn’t it 🙈
I currently have a 2013 sdv8 in aintree green for sale after deciding to go back to a defender (classic) I love defenders but I’m thinking maybe I’ve made a mistake after driving the Range Rover the other day 😅 I wish I could keep both but insurance won’t allow it.
Mine has been pretty reliable, apart from an alternator, so was my previous l322 which I serviced myself every 5k and sold to a friend who still uses it daily, that one has just ticked over 190k.
Amazing cars, but they definitely get under your skin and that can be costly, but imo definitely worth it for the driving experience, which is unmatched.
Enjoy!
How much
Very interesting to hear your perspective from the angle of not wanting to like it!
What percentage of those vehicles are used to tow or go off road though 😅
@@dadcars go to your local livestock market and find out for yourself 😅 it’s the shit crossover econoboxes that I can’t stand, as they literally offer nothing over a hatchback. Oh and SUV coupes I especially hate
Had mine for 6 months. Can’t see me getting anything different anytime soon. It’s fantastic. I stuck a Ghost and a Scorpion tracker on mine. I don’t live too far from where you film and I’m paying £1000 with Hastings.
Good idea I’ll look into it :)
@@dadcars auto air communications in Eastleigh came out and did mine. 👍👍
I like a FFRR but over £700 road tax and 2k for insurance, plus the risk of it being nicked! I would have kept the X5
Thanks mate I really enjoyed and valued your clip and passionate enthusiasm. God Bless
Thanks for watching :)
As an ex L405 SDV8 owner, i was waiting for this video 😂. Its inevitable that you will love it. They are amazing cars. You even start to have perceptions like," i feel like my kids are safer in this.." i know all about it, been there, until it broke down on the M1 😂. I would have another in a heartbeat.
Range Rovers are just the best i really cannot understand how cheap they are., and your one is just amazing value.
Yep!
Thanks!
Wow Frank that’s far too generous 🥹 thank you 🙌 I’ll put it towards the first breakdown!
@@dadcars Your welcome Ben. I hope It'll never break down.
Never had one but fancied one got an X6 which is my Work horse and it's fantastic My jag XK is my love 😂 chalk and cheese Interested to see how you get on with it. The reliability reputation always scared me off
my 3 litre Diesel is plenty adequate 130000KM no issues, serviced every 10000km. Probably a generation thing, being 78 retired British Motor Dealer. V * has issue reports too
Carly (thanks for sponsoring) - worse than a good diagnostic device but more expensive! Scummy cancellation practices, everything locked behind a paywall. After 12 months need to pay again, it’s basically a money for life thing for them. Can’t do half what even obd11 can. Go get yourself a decent one second hand off e-b-a-y, and never have to pay anything again.
Completely agree, Carly is awful. One of the worst companies and products I have ever dealt with. Please Dadcars, love the channel, but don't be promoted by such a terrible company, just see TrustPilot for the horror stories from genuine customers.
Range Rovers have a similar effect to a Ferrari when behind the wheel. They just feel special but it’s hard to say why.
Agree nothing i have driven including my Ferraris make you feel so special.
you can buy parts surprisingly cheap from Britpart, LR Direct and others.
"Wow, I can't believe how amazing the Dirt Cheap Range Rover turned out to be! 😲 It really shows that you don’t need to break the bank to find a gem. Can't wait to see how it performs on the road! 🚗💨 #BudgetFinds"
the FF RR is very nice, consider an IID gap tool as it will help diagnose any issue a lot easier :)
Good luck with your hunt!
Love Range Rover ,beautiful kids ,thanks ❤️🏴👍
That’s interesting, I really want a C6 RS6. That engine with the practicality of an estate is such a special combo
@@dadcars the RS6 is fabulous. Superb and I love it. Only slight criticism is the ride is a bit firm and it does like a drink. Mind you, on a motorway run it can average 28mpg if you're careful on the loud pedal.
Jeez Ben, whats happened? you've changed😂
Funny you should mention theft anxiety, I had that myself a couple of weeks ago, so much so i pulled out of buying a car i'd love to own. If they want to steal it when its left somewhere thats one thing, but breaking into the house for the keys, thats another level and the thing that unfortunately put me off
Yeah the anxiety of that based on the car and location is a horrible concern
Hi great video, I have a 18 plate sport and absolutely love it. I’ve had some nice cars in the past but nothing compares to the sport for comfort. What cameras do you currently use for your videos. Keep up the great content.
Gh5 is the primary camera
Welcome to the other side. I have friends that gave me crap for buying a 2007 L322 Supercharged about 6 years ago. They have no clue how great these are! They can do it all!
For servicing go and see West 4x4, you won’t regret it.
Hi Ben. Hope you and family are doing well.
I loved the video. Live the color of that Range Rover. Love the leather everywhere inside too.
How's the Bluey mobile doing? That's what my wife and i call the Avantime. We both love it. I watched James's video he did with the Avantime.
Stay safe and take care.
The Avantime has properly broken! I need to make another video on it 🙈
Strange it doesnt have the wooden steering wheel, one of the favourite things about mine 👍 maybe could retro fit as they feel properly special
"I was worried it would be too high for you..." as she scales the north face of the Eiger.
lol, she is a great climber 😂
Next up for you is the gearbox oil & filter change and the rest of the fluids diffs etc…..
Yeah I’ll do a video that covers this :)
That sounds like a reasonable amount of money for 2 years
@dadcars honestly these cars aren't as scary as people make them out too be, find yourself a good independent specialist ( who frankly seem too know more than the jlr dealers) and you'll be no worse off than running a q7 or x5 both of which have there own issues. I'm like you, a massive petrol head with young kids and I want to let them learn the emotions we attach to the cool cars we own, they love seeing what nutty thing I buy next🤣🤣
Check your front knuckles mate just to make sure they haven’t got any cracks 👍
Inspection video coming very soon!
Love the car but just don't think it justifies the running costs :(
Please don’t talk down the 3 ltr. I love it!
Yeah it’s what you hear, but from people who know, they say if looked after the 3L V6 is still a great engine :)
It’s not about looking after the v6 just how lucky you are. They have a design fault
I normally drive everything flat out constantly, but range is the only car I don’t do that.
if its looked after, it will look after you, in style
Quick!! Ben needs an interesting Dadcar to review again 😂 On a serious note, there is a point in life where being able to chill out in comfort starts to trump a few things 😅 and that’s also why multi car driveways exist 😈
🙈🙈🙈 thank you Albert! 🙌 yes I need to sell the X5 quick and buy a V8 for me!
When discussing the engine, you skipped over the 3.0 and 5.0 petrol options. They would be my preference.
This is just a wholesome video overall
@4:53 You're a legend. Someone's been watching WWE.
Interested to see how you make this secure and how easy that is!
Yep I’m in it! I’ll make a video :)
Never knew why anyone hates a Range Rover just as accept it for what it is a large luxury barge
I do occasionally get comments from people who swear they were a reliability nightmare for them and that’s why they’d stay away from them
@@dadcars they are unreliable but I still love them
you can get the delay at pull away mapped out. RR put it in there so it would drive like a S class.
Yeah need to look into this
Morning Ben, I see you doing a great job of disliking the Rangie 😂, Marcus
It’s all gone wrong Marcus… I need help 🙈
Serous help 😂
I’ve got a Volvo v60 and the road tax is £620. £700 road tax is ridiculous. Which ones are cheaper?
Must be £795 for this massive range rover. The V50's with the 5 cylinder turbo engine got hit with the highest road tax, makes them almost worthless now.
Owned one a few years ago,for 2 weeks,never again.
My family was very sceptical when at first when I brought home a FFRR. We have always been into bmw. My wife still pretends she hates it. My daughter coined the name that sticked. Tractor. But they love it. We all love it.
They are absolutely amazing vehicles!
Shitboxes they are.
Put my keys in hack proof wallet, Garaged at night
I got quoted £11k for insurance using your vehicle, 53yrs old and an unblemished history, shame as I’d love one of these
Did you try a comparison site? Unless you live in central London I’m sure you could get a far better price
@@dadcars it’s Bham akin to a war zone 😂
looking forward to future videos..

Brilliant!
I get the feeling well be seeing Tom Lenthall from Tom Lenthall Ltd a lot on Dadcars. :)) Just kiddin`.
lol 😂
There’s a lot of snobbery around SUV’s. I drive a model X (I’m sure there will be eye rolls at that) but it’s bloody brilliant. Rapid, very practical, no road tax or luxury car tax, £7.50 to fully charge and gets about 280-300 miles. Not sure I’d be getting Santa Fe or similar but fun can be had in the fast ones . If I was single I wouldn’t buy one but when you have kids and dogs they work. Also, no engine block to destroy my legs in event of a head on collision. And no, they don’t just randomly burst into flames.
You can't compare a Tesla to a Range Rover. A bicycle has no road tax but it's still a bicycle.
Will be taxed from next year onwards - and that 7.50 is at home, be honest. Doubt that’ll last long either!
I genuinely love the model X doors, they are not just a gimmick
Good for you I’m glad you enjoying your model x and when you get in a head on collision your legs will be saved. That’s the good thing about life we all entitled to get and do what we want with our lives and all should be celebrated even if preferences differ
Yeah, that's the way it is with Range Rovers. They're comfortable, awe-inspiring and glorious. Until something goes pop and empties your wallet. Still you've had good Luck with Masaratis and Astons, which can also be disasters. So best of Luck!
Try driving a 535d or 340d etc. Lovely cruisers
I agree, great value too
Checked insurance for me and it’s £800
Not bad! X5 was £300 for us
A fantastic vehicle.... when it's not broken down
Which model did you have that broke down a lot?
@@dadcars 3.5 V8 1980 was the most reliable one i had but and absolute killer on petrol. then i switched to the discovery 1 1994 i think 300tdi that was pretty good until it decided to suck all its sump oil through the turbo, hit 10,000 plus rpm and blew itself to bits. 2005 Disco 3 which til this day gives random suspension errors, handbrake errors, and lots of other odd bod electrical errors. 4 series 3 land rovers over the years, and an ex-army 110 defender. One day I will learn and stop buying them :-)

Lovely children. The 4th one will be a boy 😂. I think they chose the car for you. Good choice.
A remap on the 4.4 solves any lag issues off the line trust me, you must do it. Get rid of the EGR too. You'll see better performance, better MPG, response and it'll make the engine less likely to go boom. So glad you love the car. They're such brilliant things to live with
i love my Rarange Rover. have the p400e right now.
Love these but lost me at £2k + for insurance
That’s what’s losing huge amounts of RR owners
RFL £785 I think, insurance ££££. Dealers 1 out of 10. Other than that, nice car.
How did a code reader, by clearing the codes, repair the faults, clearing codes does not fix the route cause ?
The comfort gets a big thumbs up from your daughter or did you give her a tranquilliser so you could do the video 🤣🤣
