Apologies, but I hopped onto the shop to grab some mech and the code is not working.
Apologies!! I’ve just corrected this, is should now be working 🙌
After tracking mine for 6 months before purchase, I took the plunge and bought my 5.0L Supercharged XK Dynamic R (2015) in April 2024.
31k from new, 4000 miles per annum put on by the previous owner and meticulously cared for.
My commute is a 50 mile round trip through national speed limit, rural and quiet country roads.
23.9 mpg over my 8000 miles since ownership. It’ll do circa 12k per annum with me and so far, zero cost other than fuel, insurance and tax.
First service & MOT coming up in December under my ownership, as well as a thorough detail and ceramic coating protecting it from the elements.
An absolute weapon of a car, snarling its way around and turning heads wherever it is.
If it doesn’t give you whiplash from the blistering speed, it certainly will craning your neck looking at its many angles as you walk away from yet another spirited drive!
Phenomenal car.
That’s fantastic! Good to hear it’s been a reliable daily for you 👏
Bought a 2014 5.0 XKR in feb for a Euro roadtrip (via autobahn)… incredible car, faster than road users expect and very happy at speed… even my other half was comfortable driving it 130mph+ (her daily is a 60hp VW Up!). Managed to top it out at 175mph. Can’t get better daily useable performance for £20k.
Car was bought well maintained, but I am all for preventative maintenance… this year I’ve spent £400 on subframe corrosion protection, £900 on water pump and £1500 on full service, MOT, gearbox service, diff service and brake fluid renewal. Looking forward to years more happy motoring with it. I am budgeting for £3-4k a year to keep it running, but at this rate I might run out of preventive maintenance and still have change to spare… (touch wood)
Love the channel, keep it up!
Your right about the gear lever, something more satisfying about shifting than twiddling a knob
Yep I prefer the actual operation of it
Something awkward about moving that dial back an forth while parallel parking...
In April I bought a 2007 4.2 XKR Convertible on 49k from a reputable classic dealer in Surrey for £17k. It's been superb. I put an Adamesh exhaust on the back, and did the supercharger pulley and remap, and now it puts out the same figures as the 5.0 XKR but with a better ride, and slightly lower running costs. It's stupidly rapid but also so very comfortable, and I am 6'8 tall!
I've owned a 2011 XKR 5.0 supercharged converible for 9 years and done 23,000 miles in it. It's now done 78,000 in total. I average 25mpg on a long trip (say 200 miles) including motorways but most of my driving is short trip, semi-rural stuff where it drops to 17 or 18 mpg. Over the time that I've owned it my overall average is 18mpg (yes, I'm a nerd who records all fill ups and mileage) but that includes some spirited bursts just to hear the glorious sound of that V8 engine and exhaust. It's been one of the most reliable cars I have ever owned, the only issues I've had have been with the pedestrian safety system sensors and a replacement air conditioning condensor. Get some decent tyres (I'm on Michelin Pilot Sport 4S) or you'll lose the back end in the wet. I bought it with Dunlop Sport Maxx on it but the Michelins are far better.
💯 agree, you need decent fresh tires on these cars
I've had a 2007 4.2 XK DHC and now have a 2014 5.0 XK DHC.
The 4.2 is fine and has a noticeably better ride than the 5.0 - Jaguar changed the suspension set up on the 5.0.
The 4.2 seats, sit lower in the car (due to less electronics underneath them) so taller drivers will have more headroom in the earlier cars.
The 5.0 has more noticeable power but is less economical - don't believe Jaguar's figures. The 5.0 uses about 5% more fuel = 25mpg av.
The 5.0 has a more plush, comfortable interior and has less squeaks - probably slightly better screwed together.
Neither car had big repairs in 15 years of ownership. Tyres, discs, pads, filters, batteries etc are 'consumable' and about the same cost for both cars.
Only problems: Front pedestrian sensors replaced, windscreen/headlight washer pump and seat control module re-set.
Annual service/maintenance costs were the same, about £500, from a specialist garage (not main dealer).
Tips - Make sure the battery is in good condition and use a charger/conditioner - you get electronic gremlins if you don't.
Fit Michelin Pilot Sport tyres - much better than the standard Dunlops - and up-size them for a better ride. I have 265/35R20 (front) and 295/30R20 (rear).
Check the underside for rust and they do corrode/bubble where aluminium meets steel fixings, although it's not expensive to repair.
Awesome info thanks for sharing 🤙
I run 2 4.2 XKRs, amongst others, had the coupe for 10 years, the convertible for 6, both now on 135K miles. All the coupe has needed were some sport cats when an one original collapsed, and that really makes a difference to how it performs. The convertible is now plagued by electrical faults because my wife insists on driving it in the rain with the roof down, im just going to buy another one to replace it, they are epic.
As for dadcars, back in the 80's my two girls were put in a Capri 2.8i, Xr2, Xjs, several MGB's and even an Aston Martin DBV8 to name but a few.
Amazing! 👏👏
@@dadcars Thinking back, the only one they did'nt like was the Triumph Stag, it was too breezy in the back apparently!
We have a 2007 XKR 4.2 convertible since 2020, we bought it from a jaguar dealer with 100.000km (60k miles), one owner (maintained always in the same dealer where we bought it) and we paid 29k€ here in Spain. It is in perfect shape, not a single leather wrinkle nor a single scratch. It’s been by far the car I enjoyed the most (And I still have my old M3 Cabrio, my S8 and my XJR x356). We always maintain it yearly on the jaguar dealer (the same where we bought it) and we don’t spend more than 1200-1400€ on average (16.000km/year) for the service. The most expensive service was 2000€ because we had to replace one rear window regulator, and also had to replace front discs and pads after a trip to Nurburgring. I think you cannot get something this special for less. It’s powerful, it’s beautiful and it feels really special every time we drive it despite not being the most sporty thing out there. Crossing Europe on it is just a joy.
Awesome!
I have had of these 5.0 litre supercharged loved them, you just have to accept more smiles to the gallon than miles.
5.0 Xj supersport, from new to 65,000 miles 5yrs. Faultless bar a dodgy coolant temp sensor in first month. Fastest thing around in 2011 but averaged 16mpg! Around 240 miles to a tank 😂
I really like the idea of an XJ supersport but we have the L405 which does the luxury for all the family together thing now
I've got a 2010 5.0 XKR at the moment. I agree with you entirely that, pound for pound, its the ultimate Dad car. Pace and grace but not much space. Had it since November last year and touch wood, it hasn't cost me anything yet (apart from an entirely optional £350 for an exhaust mod at PCW, which is, by the way, completely brilliant and sounds amazing). Service and MOT due in Nov so let's see.....I tend to go through cars quite quickly but this one feels like a keeper.
I’d love to hear how much you paid for it etc, drop me an email or dm on Instagram. It’ll be interesting info for me :)
What kind of exhaust mods that I’d like to make mine slightly louder
Supercharged all the way, still have the older shape convertible. 4.2 engines are mostly bullet proof. The 5.0 reintroduced chain and water pump issues. Oh and the screen runs on Chimera Linux as I had to reinstall the software on my mums before she sold it.
That’s a great fact to know 😅
As a 24 yr old just bought an 07’ XKR coupe for 3k stolen recovered! So excited to hear it and drive it once some modules are sorted 😍 very pretty indeed
What’s the insurance?
@@Jjm2024-u3t I have had quotes about £1200 a year on price comparison sites. Will check specialist as well however.
Wow that sounds like an interesting car 😅
@@dadcars lol it’s nothing short of so far. It’s very tidy, black paint on black/cream on 80k miles, stainless exhaust bilstein suspension. Just pain to get the keys working 😂
I reviewed a 4.2 XK, curious to see what an R is like
I love the XK and XJ, very sad to see Jaguar struggling the way it is. As a dad of five kids, even a 5 seater couldn't do the school run, so a lot of us US-based dads look to the big SUVs/real offroaders as dad cars that can do daily duty but can give you an onramp thrill. I remember an older video on the channel about a dad with a Lamborghini who likes to treat his daughters to special occasions for 1 on 1 time. I like to do that with my kids with my Alfa Romeo Spider. Each one gets a turn doing something special with dad as time allows. Thank you for the content and the support for gearhead fathers everywhere.
Another great video! Do you remember I mentioned a month ago on another video buying a Jaguar XE on a council estate and you asked to let you know how I was getting on with it? Well I’m selling it! Buying an XF estate instead, I just covert that Sportbrake shape and practicality too much with 2 kids!
XF estate is a very cool looking thing
@@dadcars yeah, especially the facelift. But also the ability to throw bikes in the back and a canoe on the roof looks pretty sexy when you are eyeing the wrong side of 40. I’ve found one with 110k miles but the engine is only on 20k. Got to love those ingenium engines!
I had an XF-S saloon (X250) for several years and it was very reliable - just needed a replacement A/C pipe. I sold it and bought an XF-S sportbrake (X260). I've owned this car for four years and absolutely love it. It's been totally reliable, just the usual consumables. I also routinely carry bikes in the back as well as stuff for the tip. I live in the middle of rural Devon and a large black prestige estate is a bit of a liability and muck collector but there is no way that I would want to trade it in for something else.
I bought a 06 4.2 na in May. Awesome car but has cost me £2k since I have had it but that included a set of tyres, (service gearbox and engine) - oh and infamous ‘duckbill’. 120k miles, average condition but this is perfect. It will be kept outside and driven all year round whereas a pristine condition one may make entice over pampering. The NA engine is glorious with plenty of power to have fun but also a beautiful cruiser. My advice… get one.
👏👏
Best dad car I had clk amg 4 seats quick enough to put a smile on your face especially with the roof down
If there was a MumCars channel, I'm sure you would be accused of corrupting all dads. Good for you, go for it.
I had a 2012 xkr for just shy of 2 years, all in it cost me £24.5k including the two years of insurance at 26-28 years old I sold it for £18k I bought it for around 20k it needed rear tyres on sale and I replaced them in the year, I got the supercharger snout fault but other than that it was a dream 17.5 real world mpg and I drove her spiritedly
A good later example is not 10k it's 10-15K my costs are 800 for tax and 450 for insurance and I spent 1k on gearbox service and water pump. Tyres are 1k for a set. Mine was more than 10k but it had 40k on it and it is a mint portfolio spec. I love it!!
Good low mileage XKR 5.0sc are more like £17k+ not £10k
I think I'm old enough to remember that 2+2's were an insurance thing. I'm leaning on 30 year old memories here but I'm sure old Top Gear did a segment about this in the early 90's. 4 seat vehicles are / were seen as less risk regardless of how small those seats were.
I think they still are. I have a little Honda CR-Z coupe and the back seats are worse than useless, so I just folded the seat backs down to give me more boot space.
This may have been true for a small window of time back in the day but there’s no way manufacturers went to the lengths of making +2 seating with isofix just so the owners could save a bit on their insurance costs.. if the rear seats didn’t sell cars to dads the 911, DB12 etc wouldn’t still have them
Hi Ben & girls, hope your doing good.
That's one beautiful Jaguar. I love the color. I would buy that one.
Stay safe and take care.
Thanks Frank!
@@dadcars Your welcome Ben. Anytime.🙂🤙.
Yes! Now these are proper dadcars!
👏👏😎
I've waited so long for this episode! Finally it's here and yet... You still haven't chosen which one... 😩 Yes, get a Jaag (any Jag will do). The biggest LOL is that Matt from High Peak Autos video about the pristine XKR he got for £8k is the next suggested video 🤪
Regardless of what I get next I will one day own a jaaag! That’s for certain 🙌
Great review as always!
Influenced :) by your channel i just bought myself a GranDadcar, No comparison to the XK, my old E36 Cab, the actual car which I bought new back in 97. It will be a great car to ferry my grandpickles around in, like I did with my pickles. Need some of them stickers on my car though. :)
That’s awesome! I love the idea of buying one of my previous cars back again one day :) grab yourself a sticker now while the discount code is working!
Bought a 4.2 n/a 3 years ago, had a couple of issues, radiator and diff but since then just get it serviced one a year for a couple of hundred at a local garage, tyres pricey but theyre 20 inch.. so it's expected.. the early ones are 18 years old, so just make sure you get one that has been serviced every year. Mines now done 121000 miles and use it most days, drives far better as a daily than my last f pace!
Do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it......
😂🙌
My next Dadcar will be a 2+2 because of this channel 😬 hopefully the dream will materialise in a few more years time 🤞
Thank you Albert! 🙌🙌What’s on the shortlist?!
@@dadcars AM DB11 V12 First Edition 🫣
That would be awesome!! Amazing value now
@@dadcars that was what attracted me to them. If going crazy then why not get something with a V12 😅 cause they will never make anything like that anymore and even during DB11 generation they shrunk to the Merc V8..
I think you should be able to get a decent 4.2 xkr for £10k. I absolutely love mine. You can cruise around in style with the family or go on your own and go absolutely mental. It's a very quick car and sounds amazing. Not sure if you've driven one yet but it'll be far more exciting than the NA version.
Yeah I watched the 4.2 XKRs sell on collecting cars for sub 10k and they looked like great examples
Amazing! Get yourself an absolutely bottom end 5.0 XKR and let us know how bad it is over the winter 😝 should be good!
What could go wrong?
@@dadcars that’s the spirit!
Ive got a 2011 5.0 convertible and my daughter (7) absolutely adores it. She makes any excuse to use it with me. So much so that when my newborn son came she refused to let me sell it. Also fun tip, remove the rear bench (just velcro) and the isofix fits much better with less intrusion to the front passenger.
Cool! Yeah I show this in the video
I'd say get one, especially whilst there are so many good examples going relatively cheap 😊
👏👏
I had a 4.2 XK this year inherited from my dad and I loved it just too low on power and although I love the coupe shape I thought it would make a great convertible so I bought a 5 litre XKR convertible in June and 6k miles later I love it
So quick but does the slow smooth burbling really well too
Daily driving I get 22mpg wfuch is only 1 maybe 2 down on the 4.2xk
Always loved the XK
Very seriously thinking about one of these. Would love to see you buy one and maybe learn by your mistakes!
😅
If you can get yours hands on one to drive, I'd love to see a review of a BMW i8. Getting the kids in and out of a car that has dihedral/butterfly doors could be entertaining.
I will get one on the channel eventually 💯
I have a 2012 XKR Cabrio. It’s perfect at the weekend for my 3 girls and I to make memories. Mind you they are 10, 7 & 4 so very aware won’t be practical forever.
Very fast and lots of fun, sounds amazing with an upgraded exhaust.
Have been toying with Grancabrio next but it genuinely feels like it’s about to fall apart compared to Jaguar. Way less rigid / so much chassis flex.
Tax is tax, if anyone is considering this type of car for weekend fun it’s not really a factor, nor is MPG far as I am concerned.
Other maintenance/running costs are surprisingly economical - part of the reason I chose this over DB9/Granturismo!
Buy a 5.0 naturally aspirated version and if you want practicality buy the coupe. Rear seats in the back are for soft bags also you need a portfolio version with the additional seat adjustments
I bought an XK 2006 a few months ago from a dealer in Wokingham. 140k miles, and clearly hadn't been loved. If you are tempted by that particular example (I rejected it under warranty), please please don't buy it. It'll let you down on the NC500 (as it did for me)
They are amazing cars though - will have another one day.
You only live once, supercharge yourself. 😂😂
YOLO 😎
As a 23 year old i drive an xf sv8, thats the 4.2 supercharged. It has been extremely reliable also on 3000km roadtrips so i would advise every petrolhead to get one if you have enough money for petrol because man o man it drinks liters for fun
I’m a Jaguar man so I’m probably biased… buy one now! 👍
Honestly have a look at the CLS 63 on the market, I have seen some for around 10k and previous owners are some what more grown up than the C63 owners 🤣 I am a c63 owner myself 😂
I had one of these in my list of cars for m8 first V8 but things that put me off were the rear seats and then the resale of it when i was done with it.
The resale thing was what put me off quite a few cars as tgey weren't selling of i would have lost out on a lot of money as people want them cheap.
Ended up settling on a monaro vxr 6.0, loads or rear leg room, sounds awesome and goes well but the main thing is it will sell quick and i wont lose money on it
Also a rare sight on the roads, certainly turns heads and gets sime people excited when they see it.
My budget was about £14k cash for what i wanted and got it for £11k. Not bad for 400bhp rwd v8 that wont lose any value
I bought a 2012 XKR convertible, clean title, no accidents, 1 owner, with 63k miles on it. The first year of ownership was an absolute dream,I put 10k miles on it with no issues. Then what I was driving it home from the annual service the car shut off while I was going 50mph… It wound up taking 15 months, 3 different shops, and approximately $13k to get it back up and running. I sold immediately after it was running again, but with all that being said, I still find myself shopping for another one. I know, this car obsession that a lot us of suffer from is a problem but as other people have said in this chat, you only live once. So take a gamble and buy yourself that Jaaaaaag you’ve been dreaming of!
Hey mate
Love the vids! Is the compact booster seat the maxi booster?
Thanks
The one I used has been discontinued, there are a few travel seats out there I need to try. I’ve spent thousands on child seats since starting this channel though 😅
I have a 2010 XKR Coupe (actually my second) - running costs are really not bad - all in about £1.5k per year over the last 4 years across both including tyres! Big service for XKR is around 100k - still only around £1k. I do have a little bit of corrosion (ruddy stone chip got out of control) & a dropped headliner with 400 drawing pins holding it up (very bling!) - both will be £1k & will be done over winter. Suspension parts can be expensive - but find a decent Jaggggg specialist (shout out to Simply Serviced in Stanway Essex) & you'll be good if you get a good one! Anyway - they are total rubbish - honest guv, don't buy one as I'm looking to buy a XKR convertible early next year to have both options & don't want the prices going up 😀
I think these make a lot of sense. With a bit of mechanical know how and TLC, these can be maintained for not a lot of money. I’m afraid that due to the higher interest rates, less people are buying cars on finance and that has depressed the 2nd hand market. That means that there are opportunities to get some nice examples of the XK out there. I’m tempted!! ❤
Buying an XK will do wonders for your subscriber numbers as Jaguar content is swallowed up by a loyal Jag following.
Hear hear
Was looking at these before getting a DB9. At 10k, it was definitely between a 4.2 SC or 5.0 NA for something serviceable and as Number27 demonstrated, a 4.2 NA should pretty sorted.
Hell of a lot of car for the money
💯👏
Quattroporte! You need the room! And it still gives you the drama. They’ve dropped even more since I’ve looked. If you go for the duoselect which I wouldn’t go for you can get a hell of a deal
Two years ago I had £9k to buy myself a nice car, and I knew I wanted a 2+2, a V8 is I could, and so I looked at X150 XKs among other things. At this price point, it's only really Audi and BMW that have alternative options, ie S5 and 6-Series and the Jag is the coolest of the three. I had a few other cars on the shortlist; SL500, V6 TT Mk 2, SLK350.
When it came to the Jag I must admit, I did not like the interior (It was a pre-facelift 4.2 coupe); the infotainment is pretty rubbish and I'm not sure how it has such a small boot and rear seats despite being a big car, for me the interior felt a bit cramped. But the engine almost makes you forgive it entirely. Even a 'base' 4.2 NA sounds lovely and I'd never criticise any of them, all the versions are special. The 4.2s have the advantage of being an older, well-proven engine as well, so are a safer bet reliability wise. For me a mint condition 4.2 NA will be a happier experience than a 5.0 R that is ropey as heck. A car can't make many memories if it's broken down after all...
I actually went for a 650i 6-Series in the end; the boot is bigger, the rear seats can (just about) be used by an adult, the interior is quite special-looking and I think they look great. I've had no regrets either, been two years of happy motoring.
I would LOVE a M6!
The very first XK 4.2 I seated on had black leather interior. It didn’t impress me. The second one was full tan leather (tan dash, tan seats and tan carpet). For me feels completely different and way more special. It felt so special, that I had to buy it 😅. On top of your thoughts about the 4.2 over the 5.0, I saw some problems on the 5.0 (facelift interiors) regarding to sticky buttons that are not happening in the 4.2’s.
Always thought the XK looked better than the F type, especially with the updated headlights. The proportions are just a bit more understated.
Imagine if they made a f type generation XK though 👌😮💨
They are aging way better than F types
It was this XKR or 911 C2S back in my day. I went with the porker, still love the R though. Pretty car.
That's an epic car for the money!
👏👏
Don't panic everyone. These will steadfastly remain at this price point or less because absolutely no regular person wants to pay £735 a year in car tax or get 22mpg. I watched a mint XKR with 75k miles on Autotrader at £11k for 7mths before it sold.
It’s true, nothing with a large capacity engine is selling fast… perfect for me as it’s all I want
Me too totally agree , definitely buy one of these
@@dadcars Early coupes and a small number of early convertibles (mine included) are in the lower(!) ~£415 bracket. And although it'll only get about 11mpg around town it will get high 20s on a longer journey, 35mpg at a steady 70mph. 190k miles but still feels brand new.
I dailyed mine for a year: carried 12ft timber, car tyres etc. in it. Beware of steel suspension components and rear subframe if using it on salted roads. A proper undercarriage wash every so often should take care of it - I didn't realise until I had a load of surface rust.
The only other minor issues I've had have been electrical. You can't let the battery go flat or it will get confused in all sorts of baffling ways, and the aluminium earth points can be deceptive because they look fine but corrode from the inside out. Cost has just been the regular service items plus brakes and a few drop links for a few hundred quid total.
300bhp feels incredibly faster in this than in any other 300bhp car I've driven. Although handy for overtaking, I wouldn't bother with the extra expense and hassle of the more powerful ones. Insurance at just over £200 is cheaper than anything else modern, including boring superminis - man maths unlocked!
In the scheme of things paying over £730 a year monthly isn't too bad but when you remember it's for road tax things start to hurt..I've been eyeing up an XK for a while but the combination of increases in road tax, fuel costs and now a labour government which truly hates motorists means it a no for me.
Agreed. The enormous hike in VED on anything post 2006 killed the market for hobby cars/"garage queens" accessible to the average man who can't justify the road tax. It strengthened used values of earlier cars though, Porsche Boxster S for example I'm thinking of you.
Buy another jag bro, it's a no brainer, xkr 4.2 I would go for personally! They still a great looking car, ageless good looks and that silky smooth V8 👌👌
It's an Aston for focus money if you know what i mean!!
Its very cold in the back seats in a convertible all the wind goes in the rear my kids were never impressed so bought the Coupe.
As I said before get yourself an E350d Convertible.
Practically as fast, 0-60 in a 6.5 secs (and possibly faster than the Jaaag if you get one remapped from standard 265bhp to 320 bhp). But even in standard form the Merc has 50% more torque than the 4.2 natural Jag, and more than the 5.0 XKR.
E Classes are the only proper four seat convertibles other than Bentley GTC and Rolls Royces.
You can actually get adults in the back. BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY THEY ARE THE ONLY CARS WITH BUILT IN WIND DEFLECTORS. You can go along the motorway in the winter with the kids in the back without them moaning (too much). You cannot do it in the Jaaaag, or an Audis, or most BMWs (perhaps a 6 series but their back seats wouldn't have space for a toddler). In those cars the wind deflector goes where the kids go. If those cars you cannot go over 50mph even in summer without the kids screaming out that they want the roof up. So much for making memories.
I often have the roof down even in January on the motorway with the airscarf warming up my neck, the heated seats my backside, and the built in front windscreen wind deflector as well as the rear one. If it starts raining before I can stop and put the roof up (or actually go below 25mph), just go at 70mph and it just hits the windscreen and the car stays dry.
I never see any other convertibles with the roofs down except occasionally around town on the hottest of days.
I just took my one to Barcelona and back from Manchester, with the roof down. It didn't miss a beat and I got 47mpg over the 2,800 mile drive going at autoroute speeds. I think that you would be lucky to find an 06 Jaag XK that wouldn't have a full hiccups on that sort of trip and, even if it didn't, you would be looking at 25mpg (and I love Jags).
Bills are cheap because there are lots of the W212 saloons which were scrapped after being used as taxis if you need spare bits of trim, etc, Mercedes are fairly well built, and parts are readily available on eBay or not too expensive from Merc. They are simple cars so there is no need for specialist garages for servicing. My local mechanic services my car for £100-150 if I give him the oil and filters.
For £10k you could get a nice 2014 or so model, fully loaded - possibly a face lift ULEZ compliant.
Try test driving on with the kids.
We filmed an E63 and loved it! I’d happily own one but I really want a V8 for the 10k car 🙌
Ben go for it!!! Until you buy a rapide xk a no brainer!!!!
I’ll get a Rapide one day, mark my words 🙌
@dadcars Keep up the good work Ben you will be the proud owner of a rapide very soon!!!!
Great video! I like a jaaag myself
🙌😎
Hey Ben, I currently own a 5.0l XKR ‘13, costs me less than £1000 a year for servicing and maintenance - the opinion that these cars are unreliable is complete rubbish
*car breaks down next day 🤦🏽♂️
😊 go for it
🤙
I have owned both cars in convetable and my view is this buy the R if your using it on a track or you are going to use it in Germany I have one of the last XKs made for uk market and i am keeping this car long term the XK in the UK is way too powerful for the uk you cant use the power anyway and if you do the chances are you will lose your licence or have an accident thats my view
How do you rate the coupe against a V8 Audi S5?
The Audi feels more modern and is far more practical but the Jag feels more of an event
Nice. Do these share lots of parts with ranger rovers?
In the market for a face lift xkr at the moment these are amazing cars 👍👍
I love the XK but those rear seats are useless for older kids regardless of how tall you are.
Should you get one? It depends how long you’re keeping the car for. As the girls will soon outgrow the XK seats.
I’d say they’d be great for 12YO or 135cm when they no longer need to be in any form of childseat, but when the teenage growth spurt hits they will be too small. When I had my DB9 two of my nephews were tall enough to not be in a childseat and they loved it 🤷♂️
@@dadcars it’s the in between size before they drop car seats is a challenge. They end up a bit squished in the back. I can’t wait to drop my sons car seat and finally be rid of them forever 😂 5cm to go!
I had XKR for two years. I miss it.
How much in maintenance did it cost you over the two years?
@@dadcars service was 350, then just tyres nothing went wrong.
Thanks!
Wow thank you Frank! That’s incredibly generous of you 🙌
@@dadcars Your welcome Ben, no problem.
Great choice, these are fantastic cars.
Get a coupe with a hard top and either one is a nice car
Don't tell everyone... 😆
I’m not big enough to make a difference don’t worry 😅
Please buy a v10 audi s6 👍
I really want a C6 RS6… like really want one 😳
hi i have a 2009 XKR face lift in black with the 5.0 supercharged engine i do live in Spain but will say that the running costs are about as you suggest in the vid. i have owned the 4.2 150 convertible and the XK8 4.0 convertible and have to say this is the better of them all as for speed it will rip you face off. if you are ever out here give me a message and we will meet up
It’s not buying them is the problem. It’s running them fuel, tax, service, tyres . They are getting older things go wrong and aren’t cheap to fix too. Oh and then there is the insurance costs. It all adds up pretty quick. That’s what’s scaring me off .
People say this then buy a newer more efficient car.. then lose a similar amount in depreciation on that newer car that adds up to the additional running costs of the car they wanted.
That's why these are so good, aside from the tax the rest of those are not as bad as you'd expect for this type of car.
My insurance is just over £200 (2006 convertible). Lots of components are surprisingly cheap because they are shared with other Jags.
That’s a really good point. I guess it’s because people don’t physically see it leaving their bank account each month. I never looked at it that way. Great channel !
Long body short legs is a real disadvantage when it comes to motorcycles
Not an issue for me fortunately :)
Road Tax is a killer with these cars hence put mine up for sale £735 per year is a joke for 3000 miles,i do sorn it for 6 months but even £380 is a joke.Oh and the prices on these cars has tanked in the last 12 months, Cash is king.
Early ones are cheaper at just over £400. Still daylight robbery of course.
If anyone has a Mercedes CL from 07 onwards please let Ben have a go.
I’d love to try one :)
Seems like a lot of cars are not selling at the moment,
The XK seems just a bit more dullcars than Dadcars, not sure what the alternative is tho..
Have you driven one? I think you’d be surprised! Would love to hear some suggestions for 10k that aren’t considered dull
Fabulous cars but don't buy a 5L XKR for 10k. It will be a shed and in bad weather they are very tail happy. So a tired example on shit tyres will be a deathtrap. I wouldn't drive one, let alone putting kids in one at that price. With cars of that performance level, buying cheap is a safety risk as well as a financial risk.
If they are easy to buy they will be hard to sell so worth considering
Every car I want will be hard to sell :)
Rear seats are a joke though if you want to put kids in the back forget it and get an XJR
Why do people throw around the word timeless so often?
You will not buy a 5.0 litre Xk & certainly not an XKR for £10,000
Talk about under valuating a vehicle
If you do get one, it will need 10 grand to fix it up 😂😂
Why not get a subaru for 10k
I did a STI video recently, loved it but the video didn’t get many views.
Jaguar is finished. They have fatally mis-read the market.
What a bargain! Buy a Tesla Model 3 and you’ll lose over twice as much in a single year than the full purchase price and running costs of these Jags.
Facts!
Eww brother... Not before the facelift, gods my eyes
First 😆
🙌😅
How old are you? Seven?
Hahaha I've never done it before but it's nice to be childish sometimes 😂
Love the vids Ben!
Nice car, but a little bit boring. Not sure the content is there after having already had the same car on the channel for a while.
What would you suggest for £10k? This is why I wanted to make this video, test the waters see how many people were interested in them on my channel
500 hp, stunning looks and class...yes boring ???
Just to clarify I really like the car, if I was buying that where I’d be looking. I mean it’s boring in terms of UA-cam content. Ben has already run one of these as he said in the video, and Number 27 ran one for a while. UA-camrs unfortunately also need to think of what will get them views, and for that purpose alone I’d look for a cheap Bentley. There would be loads of content there.
The X150 is horrendously ugly..... the X100 was far more appealing to the eye.
They should have facelifted the X100. The X150 just looks wrong. Headlights and rear lights are the worst but it all just looks like someone cut up pics of cars. Threw them allnin a bin and randomly put this together. AWFUL on the eye
