Four presenters that are really clueless, where did they find them? All they have are biased views based on their own skewed personalities. I have not watched any of their other reviews, but I am guessing their views on any Tesla or Vulva EX30 and its lack of buttons will be different than the ID.5 All the UK Auto Journos have just used the same copy and spout the same rubbish. The Sliders on the main infoscreen are NOT illuminated because they are fitted with infra-red hand swipe detection. They work really well, and you quickly get used to having no buttons. I don't hit the steering buttons by mistake, my hands are at the 20 past 8 position. The got to be clueless, you don't need them illuminated to know where the slider position is located. Do you look at your current car for the wiper or indicator stalk every time you use it? Then, whine because they are NOT illuminated? I drive an ID5 and love it. I don't need the controls to be illuminated. I test drove about 7 EV's looking for the right one, and wasn't even going to try the ID4 and 5 because of these clowns (other reviewers) reviews . When I took out the ID.5 it was the easiest, roomy most comfortable EV I had driven. I sat up quite high. When I took it back to the dealers, I ordered one right away. No, a Tesla wasn't even in the running. I cant stand the jelly mould look across the range. Give it a year or so when the new Chinese EV's hit the EU market, will probably change my mind...They really are taking over the EV World in a big way.
VW engineers wanted to put the buttons. But VW management decided to save some money and invest more in the sales and advertising. Those people in suits never listen 🙉
4:10 Yeah but alot of people just want a car to get from A>B with zero fuss and zero effort. Not everyone wants to be a racing driving with lots of feedback etc!!!
£55000 for a family car that you couldn’t take on a two week family holiday from the top of England to the bottom without stopping in service stations for maybe 6 or 7 hours over the whole time of your holiday if you use the car sight seen down there too, That’s pathetic, the world has gone crazy if this is seen as acceptable
Well done,I totally agree with you. I bought a pro performance max,ex demonstrator and saved thousands on new and I still love it.Great range and very comfortable and reliable. I've had hot hatches and super bikes all my life. This car still gives me a great buzz.😊
Sadly a very disappointing review, I own one and think they're great. A big comfortable cruiser with a great honest range that just eats up the miles with ease.
After watching this upload, I actually unsubscribed from this channel. They came over as a bunch of teenagers 😢on a day out .I've been living with this car for well over a year now and still love it.Great range, comfortable and very reliable.I bought an ex demonstrator pro performance max, and saved myself thousands. 😊
Defenitely not buying a VW until they go Back to switches on Their cars, its safer and people want relax drives, not keeping loosing calm because functions that simply do not work and should do without any problem, We should not even have to think 8:17 twice to actuate something as simple as a heater. Só, só bad, instead of a prefeered vw golf 8, I sent for a Aclass 250e this year.
I just noticed the track shots show a Civic for some reason, hah. Anyway, agree about the car. ID line and the Toyota bZ4x are both miserable attempts, but VW still sells these like no issue I suppose brand loyalty runs deep.
I popped in to my local volkswagan dealer 3 weeks ago and looked at the id5 gtx ,it was 67,000 pounds. It was 7 grand down deposit then 780 pounds per month for 3 years then a balloon payment of 29,000 pounds. You would seriously be off your rocker to pay that much more for an electric car ,its boring and the use of cheap plastic in the interior is shocking. I hate the touch screen and the dinky drivers display. What was wrong with sodding buttons and switches. I have volkswagans discover media system in my car and its such a faff .what I love about classic cars is the lack of stupid technology I'm mean the over engineering of stuff that didn't need to be over complicated. The idea of a car is seats and a steering wheel. Now it's becoming more like rocket science just to operate the heating system. And it's not even illuminated. The dash board on my late ford sierra cosworth was fantastic built around the driver with all the controls falling to hand ,everything now days is just a large tablet and not driver friendly in any way shape or form. Just think for 67,000 pounds what else you could buy .a porsche cayman to start with or even a second hand bmw m3 .and after 3 years who's going to want to pay another 29,000 pounds on a vehicle that's no longer in warranty and like every thing with a battery over time the battery will have even less range .
I've always drove Volkswgens Golfs and loved them. The Mk8, I like the exterior and really tried to like the interior but I really couldn't justify. The interior is shit on all VWs. I went and bought a Ford focus mainly for the buttons and heating knobs. Simple. Heres hoping for the mk9
It just feels like a car that's quickly and badly thrown together from not very well thought out bits. It honestly feels like an early test platform for some experimental tech and not a finished product.
Like the looks but VW are not listening. People want buttons. This is exactly why the Chinese are turning away from VW in 2023. And they are still struggling to sell even with 60% discounted off the price.
The maestro and Montego voice was a pain in the arse way back when.... We didn't like it then we don't like it now. I want buttons not touch screens nor voice control.
Whinge whinge whinge 🙄. I had to stop watching. I have an id4 and I can confirm that they're talking nonsense. The no nobs thing is not an issue whatsoever.
Elsewhere they say it’s a good car let down by the interface. Drove an ID Buzz recently and the interface sucked big time. Totally not intuitive. The whole decision making structure that OK’d this need to be forced to live with it for 6 months.
“Set air conditioning to warm me up”… WTF is that? Tested the C40 two days ago, google drive understood everything I asked, changed the temp, set my destination, changed to off road, turned the stereo off, every single command was understood, just like err an Alexa! You know voice recognition has been working for 5 years now. The reviews are awful, nothing positive to say, no detail, just some “bants” combined with moaning!
Button, button, whose got the button. Anyway, VW's "good enough" philosophy is just not good enough. When you're introducing a car you need to WOW folks, and there is nothing even close to wow quality about the ID.5.
It's hard to watch a review, where I simply disagree on everything subjective those people say, plus they talk a lot of factual nonsense. As someone, who considers ID.4 the best looking EV on the market by a country mile (one of the key reasons why I ordered one in full equipment), I disagree ID.5 looks better, but I also disagree, that the ID.5 looks bad. I find Hyundai 5 and 6 positively hideous, Tesla model Y much worse looking, than the model 3 (Y is too bubbly), Audi e-Tron's back looks like 10 years outdated, X40's back looks weird, BMW iX3 front looks weird (too long bonnet as if designed for ICE engine bay) ... the only car that comes close to ID.4 in terms of looks is the Enyaq. No, ID.4 is not a smaller sibling of the ID.5, the ID.4 is actually the same length and slightly bigger in volume. No, the front of the ID.5 is not completely identical to the ID.4, the bottom part of the front mask looks quite different, especially on the versions with the silver external trims. Personally, I consider the dual-tone black-brown interior absolutely ghastly (sat in a couple of those and had no doubt in my mind, that I'd never want that), I find it funny, that they keep gushing about it. But it fits the picture. Whatever those people dislike, I like. And when the main dude keeps yapping about all the assistive systems (that make ordinary people's life easier, and the general traffic safer), I'm starting to think, that this review is not for me. Or it is, I just have to put a negation in front of everything they say.
For once they gave a VW a bad score hallelujah!. i saw one of these or might be a ID.4 and it had steel wheels! HOW Cheap are they and they were 18 inch wheels too! they look Horrid..
To much promoting the EV narrative and never any ICE's. Been watching the show from first air on TV. Leaving your UA-cam channel as very poor media now. Sad bye to the team.
Do wish 5th gear would just get back to proper cars.Milk floats are a Con trick, ffs hours and hours to fill up, pointless until infastructure can do a 10 min recharge.

It's bad because: ...
1. Crossover
2. All steel construction
3. VW's start for R&D on EVs were 5 years too little too late but forced by dieselgate
Underdone test. What size battery? What size boot, what size frunk, how many kWh/100km?
Team score was realistic. I give the review 3/10.

Thanks for the honest car review!
In the US we don’t get this, but we do have the ID4 and THAT is pretty much the worst car in its class.
VW engineers wanted to put the buttons. But VW management decided to save some money and invest more in the sales and advertising. Those people in suits never listen 🙉
As Jason Cammisa always said, "accountants always ruin great cars".
Get a Skoda Enyaq instead then.
4:10 Yeah but alot of people just want a car to get from A>B with zero fuss and zero effort. Not everyone wants to be a racing driving with lots of feedback etc!!!
So many sales lost because they removed physical buttons. That wasn’t a good idea was it VW?

Errmmm charge it at your hotel or air B&B overnight? Is it really that difficult?
Well done,I totally agree with you. I bought a pro performance max,ex demonstrator and saved thousands on new and I still love it.Great range and very comfortable and reliable. I've had hot hatches and super bikes all my life. This car still gives me a great buzz.😊
VW ( and Tesla!) are being knobs about the buttons
and if you own one you are a k nob
Sadly a very disappointing review, I own one and think they're great. A big comfortable cruiser with a great honest range that just eats up the miles with ease.
These are the worst team of reviewers out there so I wouldn’t get too upset

I have no idea if the voice recognition is good or not, cause Plato just expected it to react like a human, and that's just ridiculous :P

Rear brake lamps so 1991 and rear drum brakes are so monotonous...
Dacia and vw, great cars with drum breaks... but this vw has 2 tones, completely madness.
SUV'z make me sad 🤐
Good sale at the moment in my country. 2024 VW id5 Works out as £25000.
I just noticed the track shots show a Civic for some reason, hah. Anyway, agree about the car. ID line and the Toyota bZ4x are both miserable attempts, but VW still sells these like no issue I suppose brand loyalty runs deep.
Flush door handles were commonplace in the 90s
Now only £46k and with £10k off. Don’t see why everyone hung up about the buttons - how many phones have them now days?
Fifth Gear presenters haven't got any less unbearable over the years, then.
It's not a review, it's just whingeing.

Oh dear....thuis isnt looking good for an intended purchase when they arreive down here in OZ....might have to look at amMG or a KIA😮
Its crap for the price
It’s just crap execution at any price. VW should be ashamed at the mediocrity of the current ID range
As a disabled driver I would not be able to drive that car because I would not be able to use the stupid controls. Pathetic.
It just feels like a car that's quickly and badly thrown together from not very well thought out bits. It honestly feels like an early test platform for some experimental tech and not a finished product.
Honestly, who the hell can afford brand new electric cars? Just seems like such a rip off!
Like the looks but VW are not listening. People want buttons. This is exactly why the Chinese are turning away from VW in 2023. And they are still struggling to sell even with 60% discounted off the price.
Hot for after-market fake Buzz conversion kit? (Kit-kombi!! 1963 stylee)
The maestro and Montego voice was a pain in the arse way back when.... We didn't like it then we don't like it now.
I want buttons not touch screens nor voice control.

I totally agree with you, I love my ID5. In a world of personal devices you would have thought that they would be used to swiping left or right😂.
The Tesla addicts at Volkswagen simply are damaging the brand. Get rid of them and Volkswagen's "ID" lineup should then normalise.
Elsewhere they say it’s a good car let down by the interface. Drove an ID Buzz recently and the interface sucked big time. Totally not intuitive. The whole decision making structure that OK’d this need to be forced to live with it for 6 months.
Skoda enyaq before this crap!!
i want to love EVs but i am so tired of endless SUVs and hatchbacks the size of SUVs and touchscreen infotainment and the removal of driving feel

Why did they shove an aerial shot of a Honda Civic in the middle of the review? 🫤
What a shame, they just wanted to point fault, like talking to the voice command with stupid comments. Not a good team to review it.
Button, button, whose got the button. Anyway, VW's "good enough" philosophy is just not good enough. When you're introducing a car you need to WOW folks, and there is nothing even close to wow quality about the ID.5.
Give me an mg6 instead of this tripe. Ideally the btcc version.
That's the first video I've seen that is mostly negative
Awesome content.

id3 is 18's, 4 & 5 start at 19"
Your audio is STILL quiet.....Don't you read these message's.......!!!
I can hear it perfectly
@@4039byrne It's quite low compared to most stuff on youtube.
White goods
55,000 is a lot for a fire hazard on wheels...
Or fake/replica/upcycled ID-R?
Show us some proper car ffs
Of course, the car is not going to react to the way you speak to it, because you’re not giving it a come and you’re talking to it like a person.
