I talked to a guy from Cariad (I’m a software engineer) and was very surprised to hear that the software now being put onto the cars (MIB4) is already end-of-life, the Cariad team is working on Android Automative for MIB5 (which is already on the new PPE Q6 e-tron and Porsches in a different UI) and thus porting the current MIB4 interface to Android, which will be made available in Q3 25 (after the summer work holiday). This does mean however that current ID.7, 4 etc. and the new Tiguan’s, Golfs etc. sold TODAY won’t get further software updates beyond necessary security fixes. I was completely shocked, they are being sold right now!
They don't need software updates if everything is running ok 😊 Anyway, SW Roadmap was clear from the beginning: only SSP has the final joint sw platform.

I really like the adaptive cruise control and how it adapts to the head up display in my id7. Interior is really nice place to be, sits very comfortable, I have the ergo active seats but not the ones with ventilation. Software has some missing features indeed. Navigation I started using waze because here in Belgium the vw navigation seems not to be very up to date with the latest changes and new roads. Own it for 3 weeks now and no regrets.
How is the ui while driving including the buttons on the wheel? Is the touch okay or do you have moments where you pressed a button without the intention? Also if you use Waze does it come up on the hud?
The best review of this car, some are too technical. We dont need to know all the technical gibberish. This review explains what everyday normal people want to know. Is it nice...whats it like...is it annoying.
I do have an unlocking feature for the app on my 2021 VW Arteon - strange, as this car is on the really old Passat platform and barely has any other app features besides that. Could it be for legal reasons? I live in Austria.
You can turn off the lane assist at a local “tuning shop” with an app connected to the OBD port. It then remembers the setting so you can turn it back on if you like. Made me less angry anyway haha
I wonder if the lock/unlock function is not active in Germany? I can enable it for my e-Golf, but I have to verify my identity to enable this feature. I don't have a passport so the ID company refused me when I tried.
I think you would get used to the Lane assist and the pong for speed limit if you just left it on. You don't want a speeding ticket, do you? The only time I switch off the Lane assist is during icy weather because I want as much feel as possible as to what the tyre grip is. So, I think it's best to live with these systems, then one adapts to it.
If the speed assist features worked, maybe. But they simply don't. So many times it will see a sign an misinterpret it... Happens with all brands. For example, around here we have a lot of "80 kph for trucks between 10pm and 6am" signs on the motorway. And bada bing bada boom, your car says you're speeding, even though the actual speed limit is 130kph.
Was looking forward to purchasing an ID7 based upon your reviews. Then the idiots that run Volkswagen Canada decided that we consumers don't want such a vehicle and only want special editions of the huge Atlas SUV. Cannot get it through their heads that we don't want huge SUV.
Dealers don’t want another $50000+ paperweight German made EV sedan that they can’t sell. Here in the US the VW dealers pushed hard against it because it doesn’t qualify for the $7500 EV tax credit due to its German manufacture. You can’t blame dealers as they want product they can sell and move fast (SUVs). Also let’s face it, the ID.7 has been an utter failure in China and hardly selling in Europe. VW electrification strategy has been one failure after another. So much so that last month they announced reinvestments into development of internal combustion engines and plug in hybrids. EVs are not selling and the industry is backpedaling from their ambitiously unrealistic EV product expansion timelines and proclaiming the world end of the internal combustion engine.😂
Test drove one this morning, coming from a Volvo V90 T6 Recharge, not impressed. Road noise is loud, voice control is a pain, the Google System in the Volvo just works, not sure why car manufacturers try to do their own, just pay the licence fee and be done with it.

@@Stiggy767not NCAP, it is law. All new cars in EU/UK must be equipped with lane departure warning and speed assist, and it MUST be active every time the car is turned on.
I would consider any ID model if not for the glossy haptic buttons on the steering wheel. Those things are way to sensitive and hard to use without looking at them.

Volkswagen - we need to re-authenticate every couple weeks with VWNet - why that consent is not there instead? It feels like the "ignition" button press that was eliminated got replaced by the privacy button. Ugh... I'm really interested how the OTA experience will work for ID.Software 4.0 and beyond... On a side note - I drove two Model Y drivers in ID.4 - they loved the experience - you have CarPlay - we don't, seat massage - you are kidding - can you retrofit that into model Y?; oh and what's this cool light bar below your windshield that shows turns - we don't have that either!
You are joking that the app doesn't allow locking and unlocking of your car remotely??? My previous EV, Ioniq 28kWh which had a very very basic App which was just their ICE app modified slightly for the EV had that function so find it weird VW doesn't have it in their latest car that they only just released for sale last year. My new car, 2024 Kona Ev also has that function. Is it just VW that does this or do their other brands like Skoda/Seat/Cupra/etc have the same issue with the App and locking/unlocking the car?
Unfortunately - this is a sad true. In my Kona app, I can lock-unlock, can see in a calendar how much km was driven that day. Nothing of this is presented in VW app. But, VW app show you the the charging speed, when Kona shows you just "charging" and you don't know is this a 2 kw, or 70.

You didn't mention how it works to share your car with another driver. Like does the app work for two or more people? Does have separate profiles so you can have different settings?
Yes, you can install the app on any other device. As such I also installed the app on my wife's mobile and created her own profile with own settings and colors, etc
His long-time average speed is pretty high, though. My average consumption (ID.3) is now 17,4 kWh / 100 km, but no way is my average speed 66 km/h as I live in a city
I’ve just learned something new today … ISA , I don’t have car with this at the moment of speaking but it irritates me already. As all cars must be equipped with this is there a possibility to turn this off in the ID7?
It is mandatory for all new cars in EU/UK, and disabling the system permanently is illegal. Stupid law, all we can hope for is that someone sees the light and changes the rules eventually.
Thanks for the video, I totally agree with the app missing features. I have a ID3 and a Mercedes C class and the Mercedes app is so much better. But else I am really happy with the MEB platform and I am considering a ID7 when I will sell the Mercedes.

Best commercial for why to get Tesla! Almost every week there is a software update :D the new model 3 still is on my top list. Just checking the last few alternative but so far not impressed, looks like i get the new Model 3 performance :D
Have you noticed that the throttle map for D and B are different? The car accelerates quicker in D mode. No idea why but I wonder if they have one throttle map and D starts at one end and B mode starts at the other to get the regen.
@@pedromiguelareias I suspect that the ID.7 software is quite similar to my former E-Golf. It has 3 charging scenarios with individual %, departure time, active weekdays and climate toggle... Also it could charge immediately to fx. 30% regardless of other settings...
Plenty of folk must have complained about indicator noise in the Skoda Enyaq, because it was very annoying, but thankfully got changed in a software update. Non German here.
The app does feel prehistoric - totally agree. Not being able to lock/unlock the car and take care of windows you forgot, come on VW... it is 2024! My ID7 can't register the ISOFIX child seat so i always have to remind my kid to put on the seatbelt.
The review by itself is great, but I am still amused how EV lovers justify all problems they got with a car: "Yeah, I can live with that", "Inconvenient but OK", etc. That's all for a price of 50-70K euro. Was not that case with ICE cars where a customer would vote with his money for something really good. And with EVs, because there are so few really good options on the market, EV lovers are eating everything what car manufacturer puts in their mouth. That's really sad to observe how people are degrading...
The VW ID cars are crap. And the wiredest thing about them is that the EV parts are actually fine. It's the traditional non-EV parts that suck a lot! My ID4 did break 3 times in the first 30K km...

On a long trip… you only charge 50%? You only drive to church? 😂 I drove last week to Lausanne, from my place in Belgium it is 670km’s ( 7h30 according to maps) it took me 7u20. Stopped exactly 4 minutes to change driver once, did not had to tank. So why do they say battery capacity is x… if it only has 80% or 80%-20%… So your range should be announced as 60% from the “maximum” capacity. In know with my car with 42 liters I can drive 780km… with a margin of 40km’s (Kia Ceed). I do not tank 60%. I do not drive that much, bit more than 30000 km’s/ year ( private ).

Correct, my Arteon can indeed be locked and unlocked through the app. I'm from NL.
Recently saw a video comparing ID7 with EQE. The two are almost similar in many aspects, but the Apps are centuries apart!

havent been a fan of VW's recent exterior designs for their sedans but im liking this one.

Lane assist totally a deal breaker for me if i have to turn it off every time i enter the car... it's sad because i really was into getting this one.
This is an NCAP safety requirement. Nearly all new cars are the same now and these features are on by default every time.

I just found out the iD7 is coming to Canada in late 2025. So that’s good news if it’s not crazy expensive.

When it comes to the application itself it can be installed on unlimited number of devices if the same profile/login is being used.

Efficiency at 20.3kwh/100km is OK, I wouldn't say it's amazing.
Yes this, also in the big range test by NAF in Norway the ID7 did not impress anyone with it's consumption.
