Way back with an old Ford I cut the mounts off the axle and made some longer saddles, so that they extended further back and forwards on the leaves. Had a great effect on stopping axle wind up and you can weld the new mounts with the diff clocked right for your riide height. Someone with a plasma cutter and a folder could make the mounts in minutes. Good to see you got the engine running again.
I think the missing crank pulley let the belt 'walk off' and the belt came off imo,I did it years ago on a vw diesel it was too late before I spotted my error and bent 5 valves, and hats off to you btw for sticking with the cars when things happen most would throw the towel in for a few months
Some journey man, had visions of you doing the drift day in Roger the plastic drift Fiesta Thanks again dood and full respect to Chris for all his assistance, seems a top geezer.
haven't seen a non interference head since the old pinto engines, one way to know if its interference is the valve angle, if their perfectly vertical chances are they are non interference, any angle they will make contact.
Good to see you got it sorted in time for the drift day 👍 and very glad to see you finally got rid of the rubbers and wrong size saddles on the rear springs, they were stopping the axle being tightened down properly by the u-bolts which has caused the axle to twist bending the saddles on the axle and causing the nose of the diff to twist upwards.
Gutted about the first head mate, you done well getting it fixed though, could Chris make your tramp bars adjustable? Cut a section out and fit an adjuster threaded bit? That way you could get everything perfect
Just need to go down the rose jointed route similar to tension or compression struts or chop up a couple of old 4 link bars. Motorsport tools etc might do them already.
Great video Marcus. Nevermind some of the negative comments.👎 I love the fact that some other people also recognises the fact that you hide nothing and that takes alot, as plenty of people would hide their mistakes and only show positivity. You keep going pal. In the future, somebody somewhere will use your video as a reference as they fix their engine. O yes, i do not think that head is scrap, it can be saved. Love your content. Top man 👍👍From S.A.

yes you need the outer pulley on, the belt wanders off without it, I did the same but actually saw it coming off and luckily stopped cranking just before it fell off.
What a week for you, geez, glad you got there 👍. I had a zetec bend all 16 valves due to the pulley not being torqued up right. Deffo interference. Ever since then I've dowell pinned the pulleys into the cam. Also if the cam belt doesn't tighten up due to skimming or thin gaskets (or both) , there's provision for a small idler pulley down near the crank, it's the same size as the silvertop zetec one, it allows more tension on the belt . Great vid, had my anx going a little lol
So gutted for you , your face was a picture when saw wot had happened. 😮 Still in true Marcus fashion off it all came and start again. Still luv your channel and your antics👍👏
Don't forget to always put the bottom pulley on mate. If I remember correctly you must do this because the cam belt gear on the end of the crank doesn't have a woodruff key. Even if it does have one, the cam belt will work its way off. Great to see you got it all sorted though and, I can't wait to see the drifting shenanigans 😀. ✌️👍
There is a woodruff key on the cam belt sprocket mate. Iv tested to get oil pressure loads of times in the past without the crank pulley fitted but I won’t be doing it in future. 👍
When I spoke to you Tuesday and you said you was having a mare, I didn't realise it was this bad. Sh!t the bed bruv! Great attitude and as we know...... well worth it 😁
Have been there mate. Exactly the same, snapped valves while cranking and wrote my coscast xe head off. It wasn’t a fresh build so can only guess it slipped the belt while cranking. Wounded.
@@marcushayesford I have an st170 as a spare, on bike carbs and a nodiz lol. I was originally gonna fit it in my mk1, but the current pinto is such a sweet unit I can’t bring myself to do it lol. The timing belt tensioner on the st engine is its downfall. I had x2 brand new tensioners fail at different times ruining most of the valves both times. You can get an uprated billet one which never fails but they are bit pricey for what they are. Stick with it pal I can smell that drift day its that close!!
Thanks for the advice mate! 👍 I ALWAYS turn it by hand first, because I like to recheck the timing after turning it by hand a few times before I actually torque up the cam pulleys. 👍
Hey up Marcus all I did with my bonnet pins is just cut down some heater hose or suitable tubing and put it over the the actual pins thus having a cushion for them. Cheers and good luck and I thought I would tell you that you are not the first or last to leave your crank shaft pulley off when going to start up your engine,a pall of my did that and put a hole in the piston numpty of a friend of mine. 😮😮😮😮😮😢
I think the risk of using old microfibers to cover the block was the least of your issues! You must have the lower pulley on as thee is nothing else which keeps the belt on thd pullies...It isn't like a regular V belt or polyvee which by their design run in a track which locates them. Nothing to do with your reused tensioner.
Man that sucks ☹ but you got it sorted for now, and sorting out the back another time, but yeah you should have the rubber bits in between the diff, for location of the diff, you will need to get the bit welder for strength, and the bars shortened, with my escort van the diff was crooked didn't know why until I swoped it, as it is a Mark 1 escort van, someone put a Mark 2 escort diff in it and the location whole is bigger than the Mark 1 so the diff was crooked all that time and I put mud flaps on the back but one wheel always rubbed where it bolted to, so I took them off then found out later why ☹ any way hope you make it to the event?

Marcus five link the rear end and do away with the leaf springs, and fit a reliant scimiter Rear axle as they are an English axle and l.s.d and good for 250 bhp, also about the same width as well.i put a red top in a vauxhall shove it and used the reliant rear end plus it was the right width.
