  • so I managed to get my hands on BYD Atto 3 & drove up to Genting Highlands to check if it's actually doable to drive on a full charge = 420km as it claimed.
I loved the car but it's such a hassle to find a charging port especially in Malaysia where charging ports aren't as accessible and having to park there for 1 hour is another thing to consider haha

BYD's voice is very smart, it can distinguish the instructions from the left and right passengers, and respond differently, such as opening the window, if you issue an instruction on the left, the window on the left will open. If it is outside the car, it may be ignored. If it is relatively quiet, it can accept more than 2 voice commands per second, and there is no need to wake up again for continuous voice.

Agreeing fully. I love the lady voice which responds to my requests. Sounds very personal and warm.
      I delight to hear:
Ok I’ll lower the temperature by one
      Ok, got it, I’ll ……
My trip is so much more pleasant, never boring with this virtual lady on board.❤

No, it depends on the rating of the charger. Here's the simple calculation, the battery of ATTO 3 Extended range is 60 KWH (Kilowatt Hour.). Only DC charger rated 60 KW could charge the car to from 0% to 100% in 1 hour, as 60KWHr divide by 60 KW = 1 hr. AC charger normally can't charge the car that fast as single phase is only rated 7 KW and 3 phase at 22 KW. So with 3 phase, it would take about 60 KWHr divide by 22 KWhr = about 3 hours.

The Atto 3 can only take in 7kW AC charging, so if you charge at AC station that support 22kW, you still get only 7kW speed. However, DCFC it can take up to 80kW for Extended Range and 70kW for Standard Range variant

Also, talking about future replacement costs. The battery might be expensive, but what else?
Normal ICE vehicles have regular services and oil changes, gearbox to break, engine to overhaul, spark plugs, coolant hoses that harden and wear out, timing belts and tensioners and so many others.
An electric car is simply a much simpler machine with much less individual parts of points of failure. Instead of spending few hundred here and thousand plus here and there on repairs, maybe every 10 years kena a big one to change the battery, if at all. Just save up for it. Tbh, 400km range even at 50% degradation is still 200km. And that's like still more than the new Mazda MX-30's range.

If you charge the car home. It actually takes 8 hours to full not 24

8 hours if you're using the BYD provided wallbox with a 3 phase power supply.
But 24 hours hours if charging from a regular socket or from the wallbox with a SINGLE PHASE power supply.

This thing is, it takes 24 hours to charge 0-100%, with range of 400++km.
But if you charge it while you're sleeping. Say 10 hours, including shower and phone swiping time, that's about a 50% charge. 200km is more than enough for a typical person's daily commute.
Essentially, charge the car every night and there'll be no issues unless you're goi g outstation. In which case, the fart DC chargers can be used.

Kind of like your detail review on BYD Yuan/Atto3 but would appreciate more if you can hold your camera more steady, swinging of your camera makes me dizzy. Secondly comparing X50 standard (kosong spec) with this car is like comparing fine dining with mee rebus kosong, kind of weird and unprofessional. EV charging have many type but science doesn't change, no car can be charged with domestic plug which run on 240V 10A on average as it only churn out 2.4kW, while the battery capacity for Atto 3 is 50kWh or 60kWh subjected to the variant. Therefore it makes sense that you had squeeze and left 22% of juice in your car and took about 24hrs to charge it (when battery is nearing full, it turn into float charging and it fill up slowly)
On normal day to day usage average person might use 50km to 100km which is 15%-25% also translate to 7.5kW-12.5kW (or more depending how a person drives) where you can charge it within 3 -6 hours. Hey isn't it good to have your car with "full tank" when you depart from your home. To me that is even better to look for petrol station sometimes. Well this is personal preference, someone must understand some "basic battery" behaviour to assume

Exactly, we're all so used to plugging out phones in to charge at night. What's the issue with plugging our cars in after we've parked at home?
Just a small lifestyle change to conquer range anxiety.
