    We have currently hired the BYD atto 3 extended range with sixt up in Cairns for the last 10 days. It has been amazing will be hiring electric cars from now on! Also coming down from the tablelands, we were generated 12 km going down the hill which was quite cool! Love watching your videos they got me a specially excited for this trip and hiring this car😊.( Plus we haven’t paid a cent for fuel.)

      LFP batteries are a boon.
      I have both the Atto 3 (standard range) and the Tesla M3 RWD.
      Charging both to 100% without fear of abusing the battery is a big deal when it comes to road trips.

    Great video, actually you can sleep inside the car, just get a fitted inflatable bed suits the atto 3, push the front seat forward and flat the back seat. Use the outside intake air and you can sleep nice, even without sleeping bag. The aircon does not use much of power at all and it is really comfortable compare with tent.

    Great video. I would highly recommend ABRP (a better route planner) which gives much better metrics for planning and live range estimates while you drive.
    We really need better destination chargers at snow resorts. Imagine how much time you would have saved if you could arrived at the top of the mountain nearly empty by just simply booking a powered parking spot. Then you could have left with 98% charge and topped up on the way down.

I considered both cars very closely and with the price being not massively different in this country it's a no brainer to get the Tesla, if you can stretch the budget a bit. If the Atto 3 was around 65% of the price then I may have bought it but in Aus it's around 80% the cost of the model Y and imo the Tesla is easily worth more than that.

    That was good and your efficiency loss probably wasn't as bad as you thought it would be, I suspect that same trip w/o the roofbox you would probably get about 180Wh/km whereas you were about 200Wh/km. Remember Atto Gal who drove her Atto 3 across the Nullarbor from Perth to Sydney and return.

    @mikenorsa5193 Рік тому +1

    Interesting! Nice work and thanks for the great video, I appreciate the effort. Its good to see a comparison between this car and the MY standard range I decided on instead. I preordered the Atto 3 but switched after test driving the MY. In my experience with the Tesla I've gone to perisher a few times this year from northern Sydney and I only need to do the 1 stop in Canberra for around 20-25 minutes. Then I stay at a powered campsite at Kosciusko tourist Park and sleep in the MY on a fitted bed with my partner. On return we have full charge from the campsite so just the 1 stop at canberra for 20 mins. No need for a rooftop box in the Tesla. We even did the trip with 3 people this weekend plus boards inside the car no problem and stayed at a hotel in jindy. The staff were kind and let us charge there for free, they even provided an extension cable so we could power the car from the room itself. Obviously different price points, i know. But good to compare nonetheless. Maybe the atto 3 could do the single charge in Canberra if you didn't have a box on top?

    great video and a trip to the snow is always a fun road trip! With the increasing EV uptake, Jindabyne needs more DC charging, i have read rumours that Tesla will be building some superchargers in Jindabyne, near the bowling club, and hopefully they will be agnostic for all EVs. but we have found powered campsites are a great way to get cheap accommodation, and a recharge overnight. i see Perisher has changed a little bit since i was there last year. :P Some accommodation has Ev charging in jindy which is a good things. With our Model 3, driving from Perisher to Jindabyne we use no battery at all, or it changes by 1 or 2% at most. regen for the win!
    Really like that mobile charger kit, we used a similar thing crossing the Nullarbor. pretty much all 3 phase chargers.

    Took my MY RWD to Perisher last year. Charged at Goulburn, Cooma on the way there, and Canberra, Goulburn on the way back. Canberra and Jindabyne really need more DCFC. Problem with going downhill from Perisher is that the battery is cold soaked so regen is limited and ABRP doesn't take that into consideration. I found pre-heating wasn't necessary during the day as with the glass roof the MY heated up in the sun anyway.

      You can fast charge all the way to 100%, however, from 85% onwards the charge rate starts to roll back, typically 50KW down to 30KW and the last 5% is usually at around 12KW.
      If you don't need every last bit of power most people knock it off at around 90%.
      The general recommendation is to do one 100% charge per week. I normally do this with an overnight slow AC charge so it effectively trickle charges approaching 100%.

      My average before 1.2 update was 440km for every 100% . Then went for the very first service and they also updated software to which added Android auto and my average becomes 400 per 100%. Another update layer and byd fixed 12v battery drain but now just getting under 400 per charge.this new update not sure what it is for but my sunroof keeps closing every time I hit certain speed. So I can't even use it now. I love the fact that wind coming from the roof instead of side windows. Kinda defeat its purpose if it closes by itself on certain speed. We about to test the car again this weekend for a long drive to see if it affects the range. melbourne-ballarat took 40% off but ballarat-melbourne only 18% so I'm happy with that. Werribee-healesville took 35% via yarra range and healesville-werribee 25%. But melton-rosebud took a massive 42% via citylink-monash-eastlink. And another 53 return. Not sure why. Also could be heater on and heated seats on as well.
