    My father had one who died on a heartattack. After 20 years I was able mentally to wear one of his watches. This Rolex is really the most beautiful watch ever made. My father has one with a diamond dial and I’m very pleased when I have the watch on my wrist.

    I’ve tried both a day date 36 and the 40mm. The DD40 is stunning. But the DD36 is simply the classic piece.
    Elegant and not too heavy despite it being 170gms

    I now have an 18238 as of two days ago. It is a decent weight and perhaps light enough to keep on while sleeping. The more recent versions are heavier. To me it seems nice to have something light enough that you might even forget that you have it on. You and your video clips have had some impact on my finally making a decision. I've also gone with a white dial. Though you have the silver dial version, there doesn't seem much of a difference from the white other than more shine to yours. This is my first luxury time piece and it truly warms my soul.

      @@GhostTraderz Yes. All things I purchase are at some point for sale. Part of the criteria for when I buy something is resale value. The 18238 model is a good investment when you have the original box and papers and I do have them. I'm in no hurry to sell the watch but you can make an offer if you like. The watch was fully serviced and polished before I bought it.

    Nice simple video. Agree completely - the 18238 with plain batons and champagne (or silver) dial is the Rolex to aspire to. I have lusted after this watch for 20 years, and now finally I have one. I think you have to be of a certain age to wear one though. CraigShipp.com another quick question. From 2000 to about 2003 the 118238 had the older clasp like your 18238. Would you say it would be better to purchase one of those than to spend the extra 2k and get a 2004 model with the newer clasp? Thank you. I disagree hard. Your day date isn’t even a solid good watch. The case and the clasp are hollow. My day date 40 with the baguette diamonds is a solid piece of gold all around, no hollow areas. That alone makes the new models superior and more desirable than the outdated model like yours.

      @@smitty923 The DAY-DATE in 36mm has great wrist presence. Each watch needs to be considered on each wrist. For those with a 7.25" or smaller wrist the 36mm DAY-DATE looks great. Many who wear large watches look silly. Especially when they have a small wrist. www.craigshipp.com/grandseiko

    • @MidAtlanticTV
      @MidAtlanticTV  4 роки тому +1

      There's a lot wrong with paying crazy money for a steel watch. Especially for those who can't really afford it. I wore steel Rolex watches in rotation with my DAY-DATE for many years and they are great tool watches. But for those who want status a steel watch is nothing special. For status 18k yellow gold is the way to go. That's just a fact. www.craigshipp.com/grandseiko

    I think you dont know what you are talking about. Buy steel rolex especially a sport model and see it appreciate by 40% in three years. The 18238, which I love, is viewed as your grandfather’s watch and won’t appreciate nor be as marketable in the secondary market. Tha’s why some steel models costs more then the 18238, as you note in your video. Steel irrating your skin beacuse of the nikel is nonsense. Nothing against a Grand Seiko but you steering a buyer seeking a steel sports watch to a Grand Seiko over a Rolex is a great disservice to the reader.

I recently traded it (and about 20k cash) for the day date 40 because the 36mm is extremely small, feminine and just an out dated in general. The band is flimsy and stretched where as the new ones have a redesigned band with ceramic inserts and much tighter and better looking links....
