I'd say there are multiple reasons why that particular version of the Day Date hasn't blown up and probably never will. 1. 99% of Day Date buyers want the entire package - Presidential bracelet included. 2. If your considering a 36mm it's probably because you like the more modest vintage inspired look. Then you are better off buying an 1803, 18038 or 18238 since the brushed lugs are so much more attractive and are not as ostentatious and blingy as the later references. 3. If the blingyness of the newer Day Date references appeal to you, you're most likely the type of person that'd rather have the 40mm version. In my opinion, the only reason why anyone would buy a Day Date 118xxx reference or later, over an older reference, is because of the updated bracelet where you get solid links and ceramic sleeves. Since you don't get a bracelet with your particular Day Date that's kind of a moot point.
"If your considering a 36mm it's probably because you like the more modest vintage inspired look." That, or you've got teeny-weeny girl wrists like Christian.
Can’t talk about that Seawolf without mentioning the stunning neon minty green triangle at the 24-hour mark on the bezel - it just POPS! against the bakelite bezel

Love nkuwan the way you show it! You really focus on showing off the watch. I don't think any other UA-camr can show off watches in as much detail as you.
The reason the day spelled out on the day date is better is because it works better with the mind. On many seiko watches it will say “SAT” we don’t speak or think that way we think and say “SATURDAY”. It’s easier on the mind 😊
Beautiful watch, and a great find. Congrats. Has this dial been brought back in the 2024 Day-Date release (yellow gold green ombre dial) ? Look similar I do love it on a strap though, colorful but tones down the full gold a little....this era feels like the Day-Date equivalent of the Daytona Beach
Totally agree that vintage = value. There is a whole nested set of levels at which this maxim operates, however, depending on brand status. What people new to watches don't realise is that brand status and visibility in the vintage era wasn't always aligned with how we see the same brands today. This means that there is *spectacular* value in vintage watches from brands such as Longines, Girard Perregaux etc, even Japanese market Seiko. Watches that were really high quality, truly innovative and in every way the equal of Rolex when they were made (even using dials made in the same factories, for example). My own collecting focusses on such watches from the late 60s and early 70s, and I've just started a blog (called Moonage watches).
Christian, the first and second picture in this video showed the day date at a the jubilee bracelet? right? So the three-link president bracelet came later? just asking ..... Great video - Greetings from Germany
Great video as always man! I need your help! I’m struggling to pick which Daydate to go for. Onyx with diamonds or flat green YG. I like them both equally! Which one would you go for in the current market? 🙏🙏🙏
I’m in the same boat I’m about to pull the trigger on a day date 40 I’m not sure what to buy I love ever rose so I’m torn between the olive or the isenkiesel and the only yellow I like is the green or the onyx I believe those will be the keepers for the long term
John Mayer music isnt good. The idea that people flock to something cos a celebrity endorses it just shows everyone is a sheep and watch people are easily manipulated to be basic when thinkng they are different.
last i looked, the puzzle (dream watch for me) isn't even on the rolex website. How many billions do you have to have in the bank to even ask for one???
Your advice on doing your due diligence and not waiting for someone else to tell you to like something applies equally to any long-term investment as well. 🔥
36mm white dial DayDate is the only Rolex I want, I believe this is one of their most versatile pieces. Dress it up or with a T-shirt and jeans, absolutely timeless.
Call me silly but I love the presidential branchlet way more than the case. If Rolex made precious metal presidential branchlets with a Rolex emblem on top without the watch as silly as it sounds, I would rock it!

But want to make sure I’m not making a mistake here.. would you rather purchase. 36mm Rolex Explorer 46mm IWC big pilot Or 36mm Rolex Explorer 41mm Tudor black bay gmt - Pepsi 40mm Grand Seiko heritage spring drive
Did Rolex make those Day Date straps in-house? If not, who did they have them made by? I’m considering buying a Day Date but sometimes don’t want to wear it with the Presidential bracelet and I love the way yours looks on the gator strap!
I can’t stand the Daytona in YG. I am a huge Daytona fan in steel (my daily 116500) actually had the 126500 as well, got rid of it. I do like it in plat also, but to me any sports watch in precious metals is a pimp watch.
Back in the days when you could actually walk into an AD I was in Bucherer in Vienna and they had both of these in the cabinet and for me, the DD was the one I would have chosen and I loved the shade of green both on the dial and strap. The Daytona green for me was a bit uncouth.
Rolex used to offer leather straps. I think that they could make a comeback and offer bracelet and an appropriate leather strap. Cartier does it and we love it.
At nkuwan it's not just a watch; it's an art piece. Each design is crafted with unique inspiration and craftsmanship. The exquisite production process reveals not just a watch, but a fashionable feast for the senses.
It has always been a mystery to me why this day-date complication is in such high regard. My lowly SKX has this complication too like for $200.....lol!
Random question for the community, but I’m looking to buy my first dive watch with a budget of around $500. Obviously done a lot of research but just curious if anyone had any “budget” divers they love!
The John Mayer skyrocketed because of the Daytona hype. it’s the only Daytona with the green dial . Day dates have always been easy to obtain because you can go back 50 years and get one.
So, now that you have this green D/D, would you consider selling your purple one? I love, love that one. Would want to put it on a gold bracelet though. Reach out if you’d be open.
Daydate 36mm new or old, strap or bracelet (president, jubilee or mesh, yes mesh they exist) is a stellar watch. It just does not look right in 40 mm and I am a man with a large wrist and I own 45mm watches and l2ls of 56
Trouble is that they are just a little ostentatious and arriviste. Scrap metal dealer that hit the big time kind of watch. Doesn’t take away from the fact that some of them are quite attractive.

I have to say, even though that watch is about as far away as you can get from what I tend to like (I love titanium and usually think Rolex is overrated), I really like it. Even though it is gold, its still basically bulletproof, and even though it says Rolex on the dial and is unimistakably Rolex, the brand tax is small to negligable (any gold watch with the day and date of a similar year and spec will cost about the same if not more). Plus I think it looks awesome with the green croc strap and green dial. And you could swap it onto a rubber strap and wear it to do almost anything. The people who say its lame because it isn't on the bracelet... meh. You're wearing he watch for you, not to impress the commentors here. Though fior whatever its worth, you impressed thss commentor. I think the combination is fire.
This watch never looked special for me... never looked even average.. there are so many much more interesting pieces on the market in this and lower price range..
I get very tired of telling newcomers to Rolex, when you’re done playing with tin-can Sport Rolex, when you grow up and become a real man, or woman, all roads lead back to the Rolex Day-Date. AKA Mr Valjoux
Well… People do save up money to buy the Rolex that they’re dreaming of… But Rolex wants them to buy a couple of cheaper models to show that they are members of the stupid faithful. You know it’s easier to buy an indulgence from the church. Even if you have to invent a time machine to get one. In other words… You do have to feel sorry for the people who suck up to Rolex… Even though they apparently make a very fine product.

Spot on. The presidential bracelet is just as iconic as the day display itself.
Love these longer-form chats about pieces you really enjoy and why they’re both important and special
It’s the leather strap. If they offered them with the bracelet AND the strap, they’d sell more
Is this a social experiment? "How influential am I?"
Lol I was thinking the same
Bought this watch straight from the AD in 2017 at 20% off. Those were the days…
Still a shit piece

Wearing two watches at the same time looks weird. But a good discussion.

Deployant.
Love the Green and Gold DayDate. 36mm on leather, perfection 🥃
Disagree. Putting a DD on a leather strap is a crime. The presidential bracelet is just as important as the day display.
I love the Day-Date. Been looking at getting a 18238 for around two years now. It’ll come.
Describing the oyster case as Rolex's canvas was a beautiful and perfect metaphor.
There’s also a 40 day date yellow gold / green dial that came out about 3 years ago. I wonder what your thoughts are on this beauty
Yellow gold is fine for evening wear. It’s just too loud for daywear unless you live in Dubai or Monaco, for example.
John Mayer is cool and Paul Newman was cool. Your rich uncle from the 70s and 80s wasn’t cool. But he was wealthy.
