I always figured enemies would just stare you down because you haven't gotten close enough to piss them off. There are games that do that, so it's not them not seeing you, just not caring until you get close enough for them to want you to fuck off.

I feel as though people tried stealth more extensively when the game first dropped.
In the first two weeks, 90% of the white phantoms I encountered, were navigating the long grass of the lands between whilst crouched.

  • @TheWither129

The mimics veil is so funny and lets you get away with actually cartoonish shit. I was sneaking through the cave under the academy disguised as a lantern, then this one guy saw me, walked over, sat there like “that wasnt there before,” then went back to his business. I then proceeded to the group of three huddled together and one stopped and faced me like “did that just move?!” Then went back to chatting with his buddies. I inched closer a tad and he turned, then went back to idle. It was legit a fuckin looney tunes bit.
Later i was in the academy at the hallway with the lazuli sword guy and the two sorcerers reading, a made too much noise and they started coming for me, i lured the sword guy into the grace classroom and killed him, then was disguised as a big wacky globe thing, a minute later the sorcerers walked in, pushed past me to look at their dead buddy, then while pushing through to get back to their books, one fuckin headbutts the table right next to me so he can get through. So fuckin funny

I used the ring that makes your actions silent (you switch it in boss fights... for obvious reasons) quite a lot in my runs. It helps a melee build (even ranged, in tight spaces)quite a lot and quite often.

The stealth mechanic of this game is what got me to really respect the design. it’s way more advanced than it needed to be and since there’s no handholding you learn to basically incorporate it to the level you enjoy and that fits your build and play style. It might sounds crazy but I wish there was more game to explore with this because even though this game is huge, it still feels very contained, that might be due the fact that if you can see a place, no matter how far away, you can travel to it.

on not-quite-this subject, a couple things I remember - firstly, aggroing the runebear scratching stuff near fort haight, if you walk around him, he usually doesn't care, but if you aggro the demihumans first and they scream at you, he very much cares and tries to murder you (unsure if it's just having things aggrod to you or the demihumans make them either more aware or more cranky). Also, the horn of the alert guard seems to send the guards to your location when he sounds it, rather than his location when he sounds it.
just two little things which bug me and I don't really have the time or will to figure out.

I don't get the confusion some people have about stealth in Elden Ring. I just run around in medium armour and walk when I want to be a little stealthy, crouch when I wanna be extra sneaky and use the mimicry crown thingy when I panic. Technically stealth has been a thing since Demon Souls, just never this blatant or effective and usually only used to get some cheeky backstabs in. Maybe that's why the idea of stealth isn't mind-blowing to me? Elden Ring's stealth is blatantly exploitable and I love it. But there's a reason a choose to run in and swing my weapon rather than stealth around everywhere... it's time consuming and at least for me, less fun. In the end stealth is relegated to a 'when it seems appropriate' tool for me to use and I suspect for anyone else who hasn't gotten it into their head that they should just run at the enemy and eat the L if they can't beat something first try. Also it annoys me how under rated the darkness spell is... because it's overpowered and broken and nothing anyone says can ever prove to me otherwise. It works on players for a good quarter second guys, wtf?

If I may add my two cents about the video itself: I enjoyed the pace greatly, plenty of info in a short timespan. That said, despite overall pretty good design on the visuals to keep it short and informative, there were a few places where the information was passing by too quickly, like the part at 1:50, where it cuts itself off before the info is barely finished showing up. It's mostly nitpicky and the video probably took a lot of work, but presuming you'd like to know what and where it could be improved, I'd say that's about the only thing besides me being able to hear your mouse clicking by the end there haha

Back when I used to invade in Dark Souls, I would use the Fog Ring to great effect. For example, invading Blight Town and standing against the inner wall of the cave leading to Quelaag. Because the walls were a lightish orange sort of color, and you're a transparent red, it was really hard to see you without looking closely. This allowed for some solid BSing against the hosts phantoms! Chameleon although much more obvious in this area, also came in very handy as it lowered your profile and changed your appearance. Stealth has been implemented differently throughout the years, but it's always been there!
Just another reason why these games are so very unique. As they allow the option of all different kinds of warfare. People often expect a duelist, and that's usually what leads to their demise as the "perfect situation" is about to be inacted upon them.

i guess one idea on why is out of feeling of if the enemy could potentially notice you after that one hit, or if you didn't manage to take them out, that they kinda feel a bit "well then why did i almost waste my time trying that?"
Take this with a grain of salt however, coming from someone who doesn't usually run things stealthily in games, and who's mind ends up most associating stealth with the memetic strength of stealth archer build in Skyrim and how so many love to play it like that

There is an armor set of a black knives Assassin in the game . Which is available in the town near the entrance to Haligtree. I think it makes you nearly undetected unless you attack or make some noisy movements. It really supports stealth but the problem is that it's only available near late.

Stealth is vital in castle morne, if you die you end up back at the beginning and I'd Kms if I couldn't pick a couple misbegotten off and sneak down the back of the body pile

THANK YOU. I was trying to figure out if the veil actually worked against NPCs but the internet was being really unhelpful.
Good to know about the bosses too. I had assumed triggers automatically aggro.
Also I just realized I'm very dumb. I've been using my seal to cast darkness in my main hand (which I use misericorde in) and wasting tons of time switching between the two and getting killed for it. Thanks for making me realized this. Now to just undo all the muscle memory and move my bows... Here's hoping.

Crepus's Vial alone makes a pretty big difference throughout most of the game I found. Does nothing for visibility obviously, but it means you can just run around full speed and many enemies (particularly ones "sleeping" in ambush positions) will be none the wiser as you kill their buddies. Works a treat for scouting during invasions too, well worth a talisman slot imo.

Elden Ring has a lot of enemies that attack on script, completely ignoring muffled footsteps and even invisibility. You could run through almost anything with invisible body and rapport in DS3.

I kinda hope that the DLC brings an update to overhaul stealth a bit more. Lighter armors have basically NO reason to exist outside of looks, so having a noise reduction would make them quite useful. Maybe rework the silent-step Talisman so that it reduces your armor's noise level by a set percentage while also increasing critical hit damage for better backstabs. Stealth is so robust in this game and it feels like every single enemy spawn location was designed so that stealth can be used.

Not gonna lie, I spent an embarrassing amount of the early game basically being a Skyrim-style Stealth Archer.
Hit soldier from behind with arrow, let them run towards you and away from the group, defeat in melee. Repeat until no more group.
I started my first playthrough as the wretch. I made do with what I could find.

Great bows are also very loud. Great way to get a ancient somber stone from Mohg's palace. You can use it to shoot the wall near the mob of enemies that are standing guarding the chest and they'll just go over and investigate while you walk over quietly and get the stone. 10/10 wish I had learned that before my fifth playthrough.

The shattershard arrow you can craft lets you switch out the great bow, I didn’t even know they had these cool craftable arrows

  • @psinjo
    @psinjo Рік тому

So I've been attempting a bow only run. And it turns out that shooting bows (not crossbows) is COMPLETELY silent. As long as you are outside a mob's minimum aggro range. Sometimes you can hit them 4-5 times before they figure out where you are. This is very easy to see on the wandering dragons where after shooting them, they will often attempt to bite the air.

You forgot the shatter arrow. They seem useless since they barely do any damage to any vulnerability, BUT it is freakin loud.
If you go for stealth and need a distraction, use those. They are dirt cheap to craft too.

I love the idea of playing elden ring like an assassin
If I enter direct combat I usually like to try and cast darkness then quickstep around for a backstab or if that doesn’t work I use raptor of the mists or parry dagger to fight with style
I suck at it but it makes me feel super cool when it works
