    I loved it! I have had TMJ for 25 years. In all of my research I have never had anyone help me explore my tongue. I felt a difference after doing the release work! Aside from that I feel like I actually am much more intimate with this body part. Thank you so much!

      @J G. - I do that sometimes, and yes - it can create a similar effect. I think the tongue pulling between your fingers will be more effective because it elongates the tongue allowing for the greatest range of motion and stretch along with releasing some of the adhesions.

      In Chinese medicine, the tongue, the throat and speech are connected to the fire element, that is, the heart organ. Your therapist saw something there.
      The remedy is simple. Just leave you mouth half open. You'll feel the jaw releasing by itself. If it's chronic, that process will take a few days, doing that procedure some times a day. Do it in bed or where you can relax for a longer period. You can use a mouthpiece or some other tool to gently leave your mouth half open. Mouthpieces are sold by dentists so you can use them while sleeping. Simple, no effort or massage. It' just about relieving contraction from you masseter muscle, your jaw. Enjoy. 100% guaranteed.

    Thank you Elisha. This is an awesome video. So useful for us singers. I’m sharing it with my other singing friends. Tongue tension can really get in the way of vocal production. Not a weird topic for singers and actors. I also experienced oesophageal spasm from eating cake too quickly and had to spend the night in hospital. I’m sure it’s all linked.

      i get those esophageal spasms too, first night ended up in the ER. checked for heart attack, then Told me it was acid reflux and sent me home. now im here hoping this is linked somehow like you said. wishing you the best.

    • @helenclough4926
      @helenclough4926 10 місяців тому

      @@lalothemidwestmex It’s only happened to me once, thankfully. I was stressed and eating my food too quickly. My oesophagus clamped around a decorative pecan from the cake I was eating and would not let the food pass down into my stomach, as it should. I couldn’t cough the food up neither. Trying to get the food back up made my throat bleed and I lost my swallowing reflex. I could breathe and I could talk but as it could potentially threaten my airway, I went to A&E (ER). I ended up being kept in overnight for observation and IV meds. The surgeon said it might be a one-off incident but if it ever happened again, I needed to ask my GP to test for eosinophilic oesophagitis. It’s a bit like asthma but rather than affecting the trachea, it affects the oesophagus. I think acid reflux can make you feel like you have something stuck in your throat too though. Also sometimes a heart attack can present as a sore throat. I’ve known it happen (not to me).

    I had my tongue tie released about 2 months ago and have been learning a ton about the mouth, palate, tongue, breathing, and sleep. I've also had a bunch of exercises to do, often when I'm driving in the car. I highly recommend learning more about myofunctional therapy, orthotropics/mewing, tongue tie and how it effects palate. Diet and how we chew as well as tongue placement and how we breathe all effect our palate and our sleep. I just listened to a book called "Sleep, interrupted" and it taught me a lot but he didn't go into why our palates are getting smaller, tongue ties, or what we can do about it all. It's this big chain reaction! Narrow palate (tongue tie, thumb sucking, bottles, pacifiers, pureed and processed foods, nutritional deficiencies) cause narrow airway, which causes sleep hypopnea and apnea, which causes grinding and clenching to wake yourself up a bit, which causes tmjd, neck pain, headaches, bone loss as well as these growths called torus. I still have recovery to do with my tongue, but will try to release some fascia this way as well. I also have a sleep study coming up and will possibly be doing a type of palate expansion called vivos dna.

    Thanks for enlightening me to this topic, I found nice relaxation in my face and a crease between my eyebrows relaxed after doing the tongue palpitation plus attempting to release fascia from my frenulum under my tongue. Going slow moving the tissues under the area of pressure. Just found out about the connection between tongue to the palete being the natural posture and how tongue ties inhibit the tongue from reaching the roof of the mouth. "The Breathe Institute" on youtube have great videos on this topic, they mention fascia but their solution is exercise and release from surgical means, I suspect people like me who has good tongue mobility but not great can benefit from tongue fascial release.

    Hi , Elisha! Do not know if you are familiar with Dr. Mike Mew’ work. His channel is called Orthotropics. He says that tongue position as well as mastication habits plus too soft food are the main cause of malocclusion or crooked teeth in children, he also came with interesting theories about head and body posture while eating and swallowing, which affect the whole body appearance and functioning, at a certain degree... I think your teachings and his make an interesting combo..

    Hi Elisha, Thank-you that was great! I agree with what you are saying about finding the root cause of the emotional tension too! I found mine a year ago when I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 years. Since starting on medication my tension has been a lot less but I have over developed jaw muscles after 50 years of clenching and grinding. So it is a gradual process to reduce their strength so I can have some balance with the muscles. I will have a look at the other video you mention about releasing the neck muscles and add this to my arsenal too. Thanks again

    Best way to release tongue tension is having time with a head posture of your chin to your neck/chess. Don't move your jaw to get it there. It's more so the direction in stretching the neck muscle at the base of the skull. It's uncomfortable at first but the more time you spend, the more everything else will relax and easier it becomes to do. This changed my life. Speech, breath, neck, back pain, jaw pains and discomforts. Jus everything.

    I had a full thyroid a couple years ago, for hyper and it was elective. I regret it very much: it was beyond traumatic. I ended up with TMJ, dizziness (when I ride the car), cervical dystonia, losing my voice and other issues. Haven’t run since then because it worse my spasms. I’m trying to understand why psychologically it was so traumatic. Physically it hurt a lot too. It also emotionally hurt a lot being treated like a hysteric by the doctors... I remember when I realized that I wouldn’t be taken seriously by the doctors... in my moment of need (which was even greater than the hyperthoidism itself, my pain from the surgery doesn’t compare to that) I had a nervous breakdown for 10 minutes where I started to yell uncontrollably, like a frightened animal fearing for its life, I couldn’t stop, jr was like literally so animalistic it freaked me out... sorry to share this like this maybe it’s too personal. I read online some other person with the same surgery had the same breakdown. The throat is extremely special. I feel like it wasn’t a decision I made with full consent or information the surgery. Yes, this seems weird at first, but is very helpful for reasons you mentioned. One other aspect is to actually initiate a gag reflex, which activates many of the dormant muscles in the neck. I've made this part of my toothbrush routine, and though it probably sounds like I'm sometimes hacking up a lung, it's very good at loosening things. My tongue is always quite sensitive so this seems like great advice to me. Thanks Alicia!

    Didn't find any harder spots on the tongue, but merely sticking it out and doing a bit of squeezing with the index finger and the thumb had one heck of a relaxing/releasing effect on my chronically tight shoulders and neck. I could feel energy (or blood or whatever) flowing into my feet and the eyes closing as the whole face relaxes. In other words, a real hit, almost too much. Though I'm highly aware of my plethora of shoulder/neck tensions, this immediate effect of just manipulating the tongue actually startled me, which is why I'm writing this. I've just researched on your UA-cam site and this was the last video in the TMJ selection. Definitely my issue, thanks. Actually, sitting here afterwards, I sense a trauma connection, hm.

    I’ve had muscle spasms in my throat a few times in my life. It’s very strange and cause for concern! Will this help if it ever happens again? No Hx of TMJ or any other oral issues.
    Interesting to feel my lips tingle nicely after doing the lions roar! Very nice after effect! Thanks 🙏

      Hey Sheila! You're welcome, I love the Lion's Roar! When your previous muscle spasms happened, was it during a particular range of motion, activity etc? Muscle spasms are usually a stretch response to get you to put your tight muscles back in their tight place, so you don't damage anything. So whatever muscles are OPPOSITE the ones that spasmed before, is what I would actually look at releasing. But it also can't hurt to, as a preventive measure, release your entire neck/throat area. And

      MobilityMastery I’m so grateful to find your channel! Now that I have,I’ll try to remember what to do if and when it happens again.
      Could you talk about the feet, please? My feet feel “Locked up”, after years of having never found shoes that really fit right. Terrible time fitting a size 12, very narrow heel and fore foot. Nobody addresses this problem! Nor do many companies make shoes for women with long narrow feet!
      Please share anything you can for US, as I believe I’m not the only one out here!
      You’re AWESOME! Much thanks!

      @@sheilasmith1109 - Glad you're here! And thanks for asking about feet. I am starting a new series soon called #happybody, where we'll focus on one area of the body like #happyfeet - and I'll walk everyone through my best 3+ techniques for that area (shoulders, hips, knees etc). For now, search my channel for older videos because I have a lot of stuff for feet. I do think you're in a slightly different category, but some of the same techniques might benefit you as well.

    Do you think this is a good exercise for singers? Would it help reduce tension affecting the voice?

      Hi Leah - yes, this could definitely help singers. I also recommend my front/anterior neck stretches and fascia release for the SCMs and scalenes (neck muscles). I have quite a few neck videos that open the throat.

    I can’t seem to find many videos that have the answer to my problem :( my problem is not tongue pain or an uncomfortable feeling, but rather a lot of movement underneath the chin and in the neck while I talk, swallow, sing, etc. I watched a video on releasing tension in the neck area with hyoid bone, SCM, etc. I do all those exercises and it seems a little better but I still can’t get it down completely. Other people don’t have the same droopiness I have, it makes me look like I have a double chin at times when I actually don’t. I’m thinking it’s tongue tension because when I stick my tongue out and make sounds, there is no movement of the under-jaw area. I want to look like a normal person when I talk but I just don’t know what the exact problem is...if someone could help me that would be great. Thanks

    Mam my tongue frenulum is not short or thick!! Its correct! But my tongue and mouth feels so tense, my tongue touches to the lower teeth while breathing. Ill be sucking my teeth by lips . Is this tongue tie or tongue tension?

    I have been having muscle spasms in my tongue, and jaw, throat, and now a little teeth pain and gums, I have been to the drs and had a cat scan done, and they haven’t found anything serious. I’m thinking this is tmj, but I keep getting random symptoms everyday. It all started with my tongue, feeling weird, and then turned into spasms over the course of a month. I grind my teeth really bad at night. I’m just wondering if you think this could be tmj? And if you have ever heard of someone’s tongue having spasms, and hard to talk, or do certain things because of tmj?

    Do you think tongue fascia could cause a life long stuttering problem???

    • @ElishaCeleste
      @ElishaCeleste  5 років тому +2

      Hmmm - my best guess would be something else is the cause here, if it's lifelong. Fascia takes time to get unhealthy and cause patterns, most kids are resilient and malleable, their fascia is really healthy still. Then again, it depends on the birth, family/epigenetics etc, because there could be early traumas that create physical and nervous system patterns that result in restricted tongue fascia early on. Probably multi-faceted? I suspect nervous system patterns primarily. Hope that's useful!

    Where is your tongue supposed to rest normally? The tip of my tongue touches the front roof of my mouth and that’s the normal position...is that correct?

    • @ElishaCeleste
      @ElishaCeleste  4 роки тому +2

      I rarely talk about the body or its parts in terms of "supposed to." My personal philosophy is that, since we each have different bone sizes and dimensions and joint positions that vary from each other, "where" any muscle or body part is "supposed" to be located is unique to each of us and cannot be generalized to all of us. The best gauge I use with myself is the criteria of: is my jaw relaxed? Is my mouth relaxed? Is there tension is my tongue? If so - where is resting right now? What's my jaw doing, what is my neck and chest doing? And I play with the variables until my body says "YES! I'm relaxed now, thank you."
