This was mindblowing 🤯 I have had left hip, jaw, and shoulder issues for years due to asymmetrical pursuits (competitive mountain biking, playing the flute, driving a standard transmission vehicle, etc.) I had a terrible astigmatism (-2 diopter cyl in my OS) as well as jaw pain and even a cracked tooth on the left side due to clenching unfortunately. This past year I have been on an eyesight improvement journey and my astigmatism nearly fully resolved (my glasses prescription went from -2 spherical & -2 cyl left eye to -0.75 spherical with no astigmatism correction!!!); however I have been dealing with a LOT of stress recently. My old symptoms were returning (jaw clenching, left facial nerve issues, eyesight decline) so I started looking for relief. This video was AMAZING. I cannot believe how intense these techniques are!!! Thank you so much ♡♡♡
I am so glad you found it helpful! They can be pretty intense, especially the first time you find the tender points. As you are working them, another point of action is to use mindfulness to quietly observe where if the tender points you find are referring elsewhere - sometimes they can track inside the mouth, the periodontal ligaments, behind the eyes, and inside the ear.

Thank you so much for sharing your expertise. I’ve had terrible TMJD issues from a car accident in 2018, and this was so helpful. I’m in pain daily, despite seeing 3 different physical therapists, a chiropractor, many rounds of acupuncture, 5 rounds of prolotherapy, 6 rounds of Botox, many deep tissue massages, 5 dentists, and countless mouth guards to “fix” my bite. No one has showed me what you demonstrated in this video.

This video made so much click finally. I thought I was just slow coming back from sedation but these exercises made me realize “omg of course - I don’t remember being at the dentist, but my body does.” Excited to learn more on breathing as you mentioned.
Over a decade i have tried getting help, and the answer is always the same, physical therapy will fix this. Well....Hardly any affordable insurance covers PT. That's part of the dark truth of western med. Videos such as this one are the only help we receive. Thanks🌻

My neck was snapped as a child and I've had quite a lot of orthodontia work and these exercises brought immediate relief to what has been years of pain and tension. Thank you for sharing!
I thought that I was just disfigured and had to live in a lot of pain, all the muscles in my neck were bundled around my spine and my neck vertebrae were way out of alignment but no one ever knew to treat me for that because from an outside perspective I looked okay and learned to cope with being in severe misery. I've done quite a lot of massage on my own trying to relieve tension, but with your technique after only a few minutes of massage my head and neck came back into alignment and I gained freedom and range of motion that I don't ever remember having, but felt sadness that I didn't have anyone there to witness the profoundness of what just a small adjustment brought about. Thank you 😊

Hey lady, thanks! I'm a clencher (it goes and comes, since 2018) and have been waking up with headaches these days, and seeing stress flashes of light at the corner of the eye on the tight side (left). I didn't know that my tight hip and groin on the left side were related, until just now I was massaging my jaw and the hip loosened up! I'll keep doing these, thank you ❤
I am SO glad these techniques are helping you - and the fact that you felt that hip release when you worked on your jaw - is a testament to your great body awareness - and your ability to self treat and relax, well done!!!

Wow! I grind my teeth at night and this was causing so much tension on my face and jaw to the point that my mouth and tongue felt dry. So I started doing these massages and I’m happy to say they worked! Once I released the tension on my face and jaw, my face felt more relaxed and my mouth began to water up! All that tension was making my mouth dry. Thank you so much! ❤
So very glad this helped - and YES - chronic tension can make the mouth dry by causing a sympathetic nervous system response (fight, flight, freeze, or fawn).
Some of these made that whole side of my body tingle down to the feet and my balance is WAY better after doing a halfassed run through this routine. This is amazing. Definitely gonna do this routinely and subscribing!
Thank you, migrianes for 4 years, so much pain 😢 muscle relaxers, hundreds of Chriopractor apts, massages, botox for migrianes, and so many specialists apts, MRI. X rays and with all that I got minimul relief. Then after a 10 minute video the pressure on the roof of my mouth and jaw feels looser and I can move my jaw side to side now. I have spent so much time and money and its my jaw! Thank you for making this video, it randomly popped up and I tried it and I cant wait to work on this everyday. Thank you. What a blessing from God.

Makes perfect sense... I went to pelvic floor therapy and the PT asked if I had TMJ popping... I was like yes, how did you know.. anyhow, after I finished therapy.. one day i just noticed that my jaw did not pop anymore. I had been to an oral surgeon and NO ONE had mentioned the connection before. So glad people are putting it out there..
Holy shit. Ive had lots of pressure-point and myofascial work over the years, but ive never seen the techniques shown here. Im a teacher so i carry a LOT of tension in my neck and throat, so after UA-cam randomly recommended this video to me I was like, sure why not. I did the first edge-of-the-jawline movement while only kind of half-watching the video. when i finished that, i tilted my head to the side experimentally. There were two MASSIVE gunshot-cracks in my cervical vertebrae, after which i felt tension flood out of my head and chest. I immediately found myself naturally shifting to sit up straighter in my chair. I definitely paid close attention to the rest of the video 😉 these are great, easy techniques to incorporate into my work day, thank you!
good lord! I have been suffering from neck pain for weeks and weeks…and now shoulder pain for the last couple of days. I was up all night and this appeared on my UA-cam algor so i did all the points and it IS HELPING ME IMMENSELY! THANK YOU!!! I don't even know where to begin. I've only done this twice today and I can't believe how accurate your words were. I've been having shoulder pain for months. I've had pain above the chest for years. Neck, jaw, head. I saw someone else say it feels like they've been oiled. Yes that's exactly it. My range of motion has been instantly improved. I can't say enough thank yous for this! ❤
Can’t wait to watch this. I know I have hEDS with lots of symptoms a sublaxed left jaw constantly. I lost my voice due to grief, it’s getting better after 13 months. It was so bad I was sent to ENT but they said my vocal cords were in good health.
Oh I feel for you. I have seen this happen before - where your vocal cords can be fine but your voice is not. Don't hesitate to reach out with feelings and questions - the EDS and orofacial connection is real - it's not in your head.
@@DrGingerGarner I am in the strange position of being both a patient and a provider. I have been diagnosed with hEDS after 26 years of practising dentistry I had to give it up. Now that I have some extra credibility, I thought I’d jump on and tell you 100%! There’s a lot of information available about these kind of issues for EDS patients. I hope you get some relief.

You are very welcome. Did this Orofacial part 1 help? And if so, that's a good indicator that vestibular and/or orofacial physical therapy is your next step.
I've been having headaches for the past weeks, and it was exactly today's morning that I was lying in my bed and suddenly went "Huh, what is this point here?" and massaged that, then found another one, then another, and the headache was gone. I did undestand that the returning and deepening of meditation practices led to me connecting with the body better and finding the points of pressure and pain that need my attention. I did not anticipate to find such a wonderful video with the exact pointers and explanation on the ideas my body tried to convey to me. Thank you, i'm trully grateful to you for your knowledge, wisdom and experiences you accumulated and willingness to share it, May You be Well indeed🙏🏻
OMG this was amazing! Ever since I had dental work done I have been having major shoulder pain. Just rubbing the muscle under my jaw for a few seconds relieved my shoulder pain more than it's been relieved in months. Thank you!
Does UA-cam hear what I’m suffering with? I didn’t even google on this issue nor did I look for a doctor. Your video just came up and I subscribed too. While you were talking doctor i followers up on the massages too. I’m so relaxed and sleepy it’s Sunday afternoon in Sri Lanka! Thank you sooooo very much. You saved me a lot of money
I've had chronic headaches and migraines for 20+ years, I have gone to every kind of specialist I can think of, including pt. Three years ago I had a baby and my pelvic floor muscles came detached from the fascia in my trunk which has been very difficult to navigate. I don't have shoulder pain per se but I know that weight lifting that implicates my scapular muscles make headaches much worse. I have never seen advice to massage these muscles, so I am going to try!
This was so helpful!!! Thank you Dr. Garner! I am a designer (at desk always), have issues w/so much tension in jaw mostly, radiating to neck but I feel it in my eyes visually some days. I have to remind myself to step away , stretch etc... I do breath work often, so glad I can use AD with these helpful tension release for these issues. I felt some points more than others and it really helped!!!
Standing desks are a great option to change positions, but prolonged static standing is equally as bad as prolonged sitting. It's less about what you are doing and more about the repetitive nature of it. That being said - I have sit to stand desks in both my offices - they are great for periodic changes in position! @@DrGingerGarner it really did make a difference, going to remember to keep at it. Got put on hold due to caretaking parents who passed away eventually, so I'm just now getting back on that bandwagon to take care of my narrow airway (apnea). This is the main reason for the tension. Yes!!!! You are so proactive - I am cheering you on right now from my desk! You've been through a lot as a caregiver for your parents so these techniques are also quite good to help work through the stress of that, chiefly via improving vagal tone and mediating telomere length (thorough orofacial work and breathing, as well as voicing) are key mechanisms for recovery. Wonderful, thank you! So glad that I came across this video, it has opened up my exploration of pain in my neck and helps greatly. I'm very grateful that you share your knowledge. ❤️🙏
I'm going through a really stressful time right now--problems with adult child, my father has Alzheimers, and I'm trying to finish an addition on my parents vacation home near us so they can move here and I can better help my mother. This all is causing me issues with my health, which wasn't the greatest anyway, and headaches/jaw pain. I tried these release exercises just now and felt terribly clumsy and awkward doing them,...but my jaw is less tense than is has been in months. I'm going to keep doing this a couple of times a day and see what happens!
Oh I am SO glad these are helping. You are in a tough position as a "sandwich" generation - taking care of the young and old while trying to take care of yourself at the same time. I understand that stress, and you are right, it can often settle right here in the orofacial area. Keep up the good work!
Here I was thinking that Gua sha was the massage I needed. I’m so glad I clicked on this video. This is 💯 going into my daily routine. My jaw is more relaxed after just doing it once! And I LoVe the attention to the breath
Thank you for this! I have broken so many teeth from involuntarily clenching my teeth at night. Even though I have a CPAP mask that I wear every night and a custom dental splint to protect my teeth, I still struggle with jaw pain. Going through these exercises was so helpful.

It helped! I am so grateful. I keep having pain in my left eye, difficulty focusing with that eye, and headaches (it isn't migraines, I get those too, and they feel different). My doctor isn't much help (other than confirming that it isn't cancer or blodclots, which is of course good). I realised that the eye issue has to do with my jaw. Which has to do with that I have hip to shoulder asymmetry. I also have shoulder impingement, clench/grind my teeth in my sleep, all the things you mentioned. Thank you for helping.
Perfect! It hurts to sing even talk I say to my husband! I feel winded and aches just where we massage with you! First time it’s golden! I have so much tension in my neck, jaw, ears , and shoulder s ! Many thanks

I did so many face, neck and scalp messages and nothing helped. This video was the first to have me push my thumb up under my chin and feel for a sore spot. BINGO! I am SO glad that this helped you! Thank you for taking the time to write - there's so much tension in that area - that it can definitely limit jaw opening. Now go enjoy that big burger!!! 😍
Thank you for explaining. Past: I've had severe lockjaw on left side. Present: starting to feel right jaw tightening plus tongue clenching at night so much so that I cannot speak properly on awakening in morning.
I must say that the pain while doing these exercises made me nauseous. Very painful. Definitely going to continue these, and hit up the other video part 2, to finally get relief.

You can do it! Be gentle with each area. When I was in PT school nearly 3 decades ago, my manual therapy teachers would tell me - the lighter the touch, more you can feel. Thank you 😊
If possible, I would like to hear you talk about more ways of self-care to feel and stay safe afterwards as I didn't expect to feel so vulnerable.
@@MeganC-jm4wethat would be amazing omg yes the release can be so emotional it would be lovely to sort of have an explanation of what to do with all those big emotions. Thank you for sharing I'm glad you're feeling better ❤

Wow, I cannot thank you enough for this information. I loosely followed along with your video while making my kids breakfast and half the tension from last night’s sleep is diminished. I feel better than I have in more than 8 years. Thank you 🙏🏽
Fantastic! So glad!
Can't believe it.....I just happened across this video as I was simply browsing.
I've been suffering with permanent, unrelenting jaw and facial pain for over 25 long and painful years. ( Has also spread to my neck, shoulder etc.) Gave up a long time ago trying to explain and get help from my doctor and many dentist.
And now, here YOU are.....I could cry. Thank you, I will do the exercises. Wish you lived in my Country.
You are VERY welcome! I am so sorry - what you experienced was medical gaslighting. This video - and my others like it - are trying to bring the info straight to the public - so that no one else suffers from having their issues like this ignored. I'm so glad you found the video - and I'm so glad it's helpful! What country are you in?
@@DrGingerGarner Thank you for your kind answer. I've been living here in Germany for the past 30 years but I am Irish nationality.
We (Germany) are supposed to have one of the best health systems and in some respects it is quite good. Interesting that you say "Gaslighting". My doctor once sent me for a 6 Week Psychosomatic Treatment to cure my jaw/facial pain!!!! That tends to be a commen practice here when there are no obvious/outward signs of a problem....You're offered Psychosomatic group therapy!!!!!!!!
Thanks again and I will be watching your Videos.

Thanks for sharing! Glad it helped and thanks for the sub!
This video is incredible. I’m a jaw clencher and my face is always a rock, did these exercises and my face is so relaxed, thank you so much!
Oh goodness this makes my day to hear - I am SO glad this helped you! 😍

We need someone like you at the VA hospitals all over the country. Esp since a lot of our problems are from active duty. The stress we’ve been through and trauma are only dealt with on a certain level. Mostly with psychotropic medications unfortunately
I wish I could help, perhaps there is a way that I can through this channel. I'm so sorry you are only being offered medications - there is so much that can be done to manage the fallout of trauma and injury - combined, they do require a special approach. Thank you so much. This released so much tension from my body, particularly my throat and the back of my tongue. I’ve been doing some facial massage for a while but these moves were new and released tension in a way I never knew was possible. I have felt so much lighter since I did them last night, but not only that I woke up this morning able to BREATHE so much easier than I ever thought possible and the release of tension seems to have given my body a really emotional release - I couldn’t stop crying this morning! For no explainable reason other than this. But I’m feeling so much better. THANK YOU.

So glad you are aware of this - now you can educate SO many people so they don't miss the connection (including your docs!). :)
Thank you for sharing, I'm so glad you found relief!
good lord! I have been suffering from neck pain for weeks and weeks…and now shoulder pain for the last couple of days. I was up all night and this appeared on my UA-cam algor so i did all the points and it IS HELPING ME IMMENSELY! THANK YOU!!! I am SO glad to hear this! Wow, I'm amazed the video found you like that. That's serendipitous!

I now focus my practice on treating oral facial pain, preventing and management of sleep apnoea, and straightening teeth with clear aligners! We do a lot of tongue tie, releases from infancy on up!
Now that I have some extra credibility, I thought I’d jump on and tell you 100%! There’s a lot of information available about these kind of issues for EDS patients. I hope you get some relief.
You absolutely do have a ton of credibility - thank you for speaking up, for sharing your story, and for the help you are offering people now! You are amazing.@@SimiSilver
I’ve got possible torn rotator cuff on right shoulder and sever vertigo that puts me down on floor. Having no help from the VA so I appreciate your helpful video advice. The ENT that the VA sent me to wants to burn out my ocular nerve in my left ear for the vertigo I have. That’s really crazy

While you were talking doctor i followers up on the massages too. I’m so relaxed and sleepy it’s Sunday afternoon in Sri Lanka! Thank you sooooo very much. You saved me a lot of money
So glad it helped!! And thank you for subscribing!
Please let me know how you do - the pelvic floor and voice/head connection is SO important - one cannot recover without addressing the other.
I'm so glad, this makes my day to hear they were helpful!
Use a standing desk! They make desks that go up and down (seated/standing).💝
Standing desks are a great option to change positions, but prolonged static standing is equally as bad as prolonged sitting. It's less about what you are doing and more about the repetitive nature of it. That being said - I have sit to stand desks in both my offices - they are great for periodic changes in position! Thanks for chiming in Laura! @@laurabarber6697
@@DrGingerGarner it really did make a difference, going to remember to keep at it. I have been making many chngs w/new cardiologist (intermittent fasting, far infrared sauna, breathwork, plant based, etc...) but I also have a posterior tongue tie issue and had started myofascial therapy during pandemic. Got put on hold due to caretaking parents who passed away eventually, so I'm just now getting back on that bandwagon to take care of my narrow airway (apnea). This is the main reason for the tension. I sing so my vocal exercises help, but always looking for exercises to help my jaw/neck these were major helps!! Can't thank you enough! Followed!
Sing on, tension free - it's in your near future! 🎉 @@mommasoto

My doctor isn't much help (other than confirming that it isn't cancer or blodclots, which is of course good).

I am trying to do these on myself as I watch your video. Some are easier than others. Wow! I am super tight on the last area and not sure that I am in the right spot.
You can do it! Be gentle with each area. When I was in PT school nearly 3 decades ago, my manual therapy teachers would tell me - the lighter the touch, more you can feel.
I have stuck by that advice as a manual therapist - and it has allowed me to become much better at identifying soft tissue pathology with my hands. Hope this helps!
First point hit a tender spot and helped a lot. I couldn’t find the second under the chin spot you were talking about.
They can be a little difficult to find - but if you don't find it - it could be that it's not painful and does not need the work.
