Glad you got to this one! I'll never be able to fathom how some drummers can have extreme limb independence. It's like having 4 brains, one per arm and leg.
The two things I like about your cover progress are the two things absent from most other covers. You're doing the ghost notes, and you're aware the foot pattern changes. It makes me lose interest when I see a bleed cover and it's a single pattern. You're already winning. Reaction was awesome. I love those switch ups on the snare, that part you like. Top 5 drummers... My list isn't in any order. Virgil Donati. Senri Kawaguchi. Frost (Satyricon). Jayson Sherlock (Mortification among others), Ted Kirkpatrick (the late, great drummer of Tourniquet). And I dunno... Thomas Lang, Zyean (Jiluka), Yuki (Versailles) More than 5... F. Edit: Ah, it's ok, only 5 were strictly metal. Only saw the question after the reaction. So, Dave Lombardo, Igor Cavalera, Lars (yes Lars. Not even going to respond to any comment on him. It's more than just the drums there.) and the drummer from a band called Believer (Dimensions album in particular, lots of wild ideas and playing time and subdivision) I'm probably missing plenty... I hate lists.
Did thanks so much and ya I agree, I’m thinking if I’m gonna do it might as well do it right… right? And that’s one hell of a list, thanks for the comment and thanks for watching. 😉🤘
Nick Yacyshyn (specifically his work in SUMAC and Genghis Tron) is an incredibly underrated drummer, super creative and dynamic. Tyler Coburn of Thou and Yautja is in a similar vein. Both are definitely up there in my favorites alongside Haake and Jamie St. Merat.
Dude thank u for these recommendations I’ve been checking out almost everything people recommend and it’s been great. Especially ulcerate and juniper. 🤘🤘
@@yarpyarp85 No problem! Always happy to recommend good music. I'd really recommend checking out some of Nick's SUMAC drum cams, just really wildly creative stuff.
Another great vid! New gear looks real nice too! Another recommendation: Matt Kilner. He plays all the instruments in his band Nithing and he freaking hauls ass the whole time. Check out "Nithing - of those immortal, longing for decease playthrough".
I believe it's a focus blur which is around the whole edge probably they thought it looked cooler for effect lol. Congrats on the new equipment. The awesome thing about Thomas is how tight his timing is that right hand is always on time. My top 5 favorite metal drummers: Joey Jordison Derek Roddy Nicholas Barker Francesco Paoli Dirk Meyer-Berhorn Great video to react to, oddly wasn't Neo Obliviscaris hmmmmm lol. Looking good on the bleed front tho congrats. Learning that one song is going to immensely help any drummer instantly elevate so its only good coming out of it. That left leg will get stronger too 🤘🏽
Bro thanks eh! Ya that’s how I feel too, I’m up for the challenge cuz I know it’s gonna make me a way better player overall. It’s hard to hyper focus on just one thing making it like 70 + % of my practice but I’m stoked to get to the other side. Sick list, I’ve actually only heard of two of this guys Derek and Joey. Joey is like one of the best of all time though, everything on Iowa was so ground breaking.
@yarpyarp85 I'm glad you've only heard of 2 gives you things to explore and hell yeah I can't wait to see the final product. And yes Joey is my#1 fav. I have both of his shares too
@FearTheDarkWolf exactly right. I’ve been checking so much of Jamie saint merat, the guy is so freaking good! And u mean snares right? Are they pearls or tama
In no order Jamie St Merat, Eric Moore (Favorite for Metal and of course MOORE!), John Longstreth, Flo Mounier, and Sean Reinert.... And Animal from The Muppets!!!!!!!!!! ANIMAL!!!!
bahahah yessss dude I'm so glade you give Eric his due, the guy is quite possibly one of the best drummers ever IMO. Animal is so sick also!!! F ing AAAANNNIMMMALAALLLLL
You should dive in to Kai Hahto of nightwish and previous Wintersun (amazing drumming) and rotten sounds. And darkwood my betrothed latest album. He has won prices as finlands best jazzdrummer at the same time he played in rotten sound. He is a funking machin and an amazing drummer
That song is so great. If you ever want to see some great breakdowns of Meshuggah's song structures and their repeating patterns, check out Yogev Gabay's channel here. He does great visual representations of their repeating patterns.
If and when you end up checking sometihng for Kai Hahto, I wopuld recommend either Wintersun or Rotten Sound. Nightwish drum cams aren't really showing his full skill. Unfortunately there is not a lot out there from the time he was in Rotten Sound, but Obey is a good one, if not really the best sound quality. Pretty much all the Wintersun stuff is good quality. The comments have most of the big names, but I would add Baard Kolstad from Leprous in case you're not familiar with him already. The Sky is Red or Nighttime Disguise would be some of the good picks.
I don't know if you would, but how do you compose and 'feel' parts like this? Any insight from a player would be cool if you have it. Especially as you are beginning to learn some of his stuff.
I think I know what u r saying. A lot of what he “Thomas” does sounds so good because he has a really strong internalized quarter note pulse. So when he plays complicated things they always feel accurate. I assume he practice religiously or at least at one time did and when he did he did a lot of work lining things up agents his hi hat foot. Also he has done a substantial amount of ghost note work within that same context. I have a whole system I take my student through to help develop this and I will for sure be doing some lesson videos on it in the future. Stay tuned 🤘🤘🤘🤘☺️
Hey matt thanks for another real cool reaction. MIkrofone sounds much better and louder than befor. And I hope that you can react once to Dave Lombardo former drummer of Slayer. Because he is a real legend. Maybe you find a drumcam from the song Angel of Death or Raining Blood. That would be awesome. And then of xourse there are John Bonham the drummer of Led Zeppelin wich I tink is also cool to see your reaction to it. Because he is one of the best rockdrummer of all time. Greetings from switzerland Patrick
Pat! Hey man, thanks so much for watching and for the suggestions! Yes I think I have to react to Lombardo, he's the god father of thrash right and Led zepplin was one of my favourite bands when I was a kid, so I gotta bust some out for sure. Love from Canada my friend!
By the authority invested in me from being from the same country as him, I can tell you that the "e" in "Haake" is not silent. "Tomas Haak-eh". I don't really care but you English speaking people seem to be very self conscious about saying names right.
Brandon Morgan of Misery Signals Craig Reynolds of stray from the path Matt Garstka of animals of leader Kyle Brownlee of counterparts Jay Postones of tesseract
Thomas is quoted as saying it took him 6 months to learn to play the drums for "bleed" after he wrote them. If you have it figured out by then, it will be a stamina exercise. He also says all of their songs are in 4/4, so the entire group is just math nerds, I'm convinced 😆
Check out Mario Duplantier from Gojira. There are just drum tracks for him also for The Art of Dying. He's amazing in live videos of Gift of Guilt live at the Brixton Academy. Pray live at Red Rocks, He is truly one of the best you'll ever see. They don't call him Super Mario for nothing.

Pleeeeease try and pause when you're talking. You seem to get so caught up in what you're saying and looking away from the video you're meant to be watching

Thomas Lang, Zyean (Jiluka), Yuki (Versailles)
More than 5... F. Edit: Ah, it's ok, only 5 were strictly metal. Only saw the question after the reaction.
So, Dave Lombardo, Igor Cavalera, Lars (yes Lars. Not even going to respond to any comment on him. It's more than just the drums there.) and the drummer from a band called Believer (Dimensions album in particular, lots of wild ideas and playing time and subdivision)
I'm probably missing plenty... I hate lists.
Did thanks so much and ya I agree, I’m thinking if I’m gonna do it might as well do it right… right? And that’s one hell of a list, thanks for the comment and thanks for watching. 😉🤘
I would not mind you going on a thomas haake binge reaction marathon :D
Hahaha I’m thinking I just might do it
Nick Yacyshyn (specifically his work in SUMAC and Genghis Tron) is an incredibly underrated drummer, super creative and dynamic.
I can't believe he said he was going to learn this one too!! Left a like ;)
Hahaha I said maybe. Let’s see how I do with bleed first . 😉😉
Another great vid! New gear looks real nice too! Another recommendation: Matt Kilner. He plays all the instruments in his band Nithing and he freaking hauls ass the whole time. Check out "Nithing - of those immortal, longing for decease playthrough".
Thanks so much my friend, great to see h again! I’ll totally check him out thanks! 🤘🤘
I believe it's a focus blur which is around the whole edge probably they thought it looked cooler for effect lol. Congrats on the new equipment.
The awesome thing about Thomas is how tight his timing is that right hand is always on time.
My top 5 favorite metal drummers:
Joey Jordison
Derek Roddy
Nicholas Barker
Francesco Paoli
Dirk Meyer-Berhorn
Great video to react to, oddly wasn't Neo Obliviscaris hmmmmm lol.
@yarpyarp85 yeah snares lol 😆 both Pearl, the black one with the Slipknot S symbol and the Red with with #1
In no order Jamie St Merat, Eric Moore (Favorite for Metal and of course MOORE!), John Longstreth, Flo Mounier, and Sean Reinert....
Dude I gotta check him out thanks for the recommendation! 🤘🤘
Pretty sure you'll be done before christmas at the rate you're going! Keep kicking ass
Aaahh my man, thanks for the vote of confidence. I think I can too, 5 months is a long ass time. 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
That song is so great. If you ever want to see some great breakdowns of Meshuggah's song structures and their repeating patterns, check out Yogev Gabay's channel here. He does great visual representations of their repeating patterns.
Dude yes and I’ve checked out his stuff. So well made and informative. That’s how I learned the beginning section of the art of dying. Thankssss
new equipment looks great
Thanks mom!!! Thanks you for helping me too, love you!
the microphone check was basically a meshuggah rhythm
and yes more haake
Hahah right my channel is basically gonna jazz drummer reacts to Thomas Haake
new camera looks so good
I know right and I love the 360 one too!!!!!!! Who bought me that again!?!?!?!?
The new equipment looks fantastic Matthew
Dad!!! Thanks so much and thank u for everything. Love u
you should check out Sleep token, the drummer does some realllly nice stuff
I will for sure lots of people have suggested them! Thanks!
and and and you r doing so greatttt🎉
Thanks baby!!!!!!!!! Mua
Do abysmal eye LIVE Bloodstock next, trust me. I was also there btw
Oh shit that’s awesome, I’ll check it out for sure! Thanks!
@@yarpyarp85 appreciate it
If and when you end up checking sometihng for Kai Hahto, I wopuld recommend either Wintersun or Rotten Sound.
Oh Jesus dude winter sun is amazing I only check out one song so far but it’s frigging intense. I’m gonna check out some more soon! Thanks eh!
I wonder why Thomas doesn't ever use rides (to actually ride, I mean)? However fascinating everything he does is, this feels kinda lacking.
Ya dude Weird right? Next time I see him I'll ask. 😉🙃🙃🙃
Vinnie Paul, Neal Peart, Eloy Casagrande, Mario Duplanter, Thomas Hakke
No one is above another.
Yo dude good to see you again. Ok I'm gonna start saying it right and I'm gonna quote u Lord! Thanks I had no clue. 🙃🙃
Awesome
Thank u dude! Every comment helps!!
Danny Carey's Pneuma by Tool you will enjoy greatly
Sick ya I’ve seen it so good!
Hawk-eh
Yesss I’ve been schooled. 🤘
Talked right through the beginning of the breakdown. I’m am upsetten. 😤
Sorry lol, I was chatty that day. 😖
cooolllll❤❤❤❤
You are the coolest 😍😍😍😍😍
great! ❤
what about Fear Factory - Replica and Tool - Pneuma ? ;-)
Thanks my friend! Definitely gonna do tool soon! 🤘♥️☺️
Baard kolstad, aric importa, matt graska
I have not yet seen any UA-camr pronounce Haake the right way. It´s not Hawk, it´s two syllables Ha-keh
Ok I’ll be the first then! ☝️
Brandon Morgan of Misery Signals
Craig Reynolds of stray from the path
Matt Garstka of animals of leader
Kyle Brownlee of counterparts
Jay Postones of tesseract
Yoooo Craig Reynolds getting some love. I love that guy, love his commentary and so happy he’s been getting more and more successful. 🤘🤘
You should check out some of his old stuff like soul burn from the Destry Erase Improve album. Lots of jazz influences
Oh hell ya will do! Thanks so much for the suggestion. I’ve been listen more lately while I try to finish learning bleed. 🤘🤘
Have you seen Caleb H's cover of bleed. He's 9. 😅
Yup 🤦♂️ it’s killing me to learn this tune. Like when did he have time even… when I was nine I was like eating boogers and reading hardy boys. 🙃
Thomas is quoted as saying it took him 6 months to learn to play the drums for "bleed" after he wrote them. If you have it figured out by then, it will be a stamina exercise.
He also says all of their songs are in 4/4, so the entire group is just math nerds, I'm convinced 😆
Ok great so I don’t feel so bad that it’s taking me a while. 😉😉😉
I'd like to see you react to Bobby Jarzombek....Spastik Ink playthroughs from his instructional DVD. Pretty old now but is still memorizing.
I’ll check him out and add him to the list! Thanks for watch man!!
He is my fav drummer , just a notch above me air drumming
What's the intro song? I love it, even this tiny bit...
Ah yes dude one of my favourites. Joshua Redman “stream of consciousness” that whole album is absolutely incredible.
@@yarpyarp85 Thx very much, indeed... 😃
@22fret no problem at all!
Algorithm participation
Thank u!!!!!!
check out nils dominator fjällström - dark funeral awsome drummer lefthanded
Yo just added them to my playlist for commuting. I’ll check him out soon, thanks so much for the recommendation.
Elliott Hoffman, from the band Car Bomb, would be a player I’d check out, since you enjoy Thomas’ groove.. 👍🏼
You’re missing the E at the end of his name, Haak is correct but you need to add the ”eh” at the end - Haak”eh” you’re welcome :p
Oh damn, thank u! Surprised no one else noticed! I’ll change it. 💪💪💪
I would suggest checking out Car Bomb. They're a math metal bad known for complex meter and tempo changes.
Check the last Sepultura albums with the former drummer Eloy Casagrande, and his other solos and workshops!
Oh hell ya that’s on the list! He’s such a beast!
Heyyyy
yoooooooooo brotha!
FOR THE ALGORITHM!!
You’re the man!!!
Also check out Nostrum playthrough
By origin?
The blurrieness looks like some weird fisheye lens distortion.
On my camera right?
Just found your channel - if you haven't already, please check out Paul Seidel's official playthrough of Jurassic | Cretaceous by The Ocean.
Top 5 drummers - Thomas Haake
Paul Seidel
Baard Kolstad
Sean Reinert
Matt Garstka
Brann Dailor as a bonus, because 5 is not enough.
Bleed is just Hertas on the feet. This is much more insane.
I agree, bleeds still hard though trust me. It’s kick my ass lol. 🤘🤘
@@yarpyarp85 oh me too bud.
relax about the feet mate theye got nothing to prove to anyone
🤘
Haake is a gd demon
Hell ya man. 1 in a billion.
Hihats on the & is the fucking wave tho. I had no pocket until I started riding the left foot with the hi-hats. If you can play meshuggah clean you can probably learn almost anything
Ya that left foot hi hat is a big key I agree!
Amazing
Now!!
VIRGIL DONATI
Oh ya definitely will eventually 🤘🤘 he’s a beast
Pleeeeease try and pause when you're talking. You seem to get so caught up in what you're saying and looking away from the video you're meant to be watching
Haha sorry man I legit have like some crazy add, this is just who I am. Trying to be authentic but I’ll do better. Thanks for watching 🥁🥁🤘🤘
Haha sorry man I legit have like some crazy add, this is just who I am. Trying to be authentic but I’ll do better. Thanks for watching 🥁🥁🤘🤘
What’s the point of watchin the video if you’re gonna just talk over the whole thing
What’s the point of watching someone react to a video if u don’t want them to talk??
@@yarpyarp85 you listen, then react, then listen, then react. Not just talk over it constantly while it’s playing missing out on key moments. You spoke over 70% of the song a lot of times with irrelevant nonsense. The space bar is your friend . Just felt disrespectful to the performance dude
Ok I get what you’re saying and I was in a talkative mood this day and having a really good time, but I have only one question and it might be an obvious one….. you know you don’t have to watch right?? Why would u waste your time watching something u don’t like and then waste your time commenting on it annnnnd then waste your time coming back to comment again. Also I assume you’ll come back and comment again, just move on…. UA-cam’s a big platform with lots of content.
Buuut still thanks for the constructive criticism, I’ll take it to heart but with a gain of salt because I want to remain true to myself. 😉😉♥️
the flip?! So much talking about other things while haake is doing magic instead of focusing on it :S
🤷♂️🤷♂️🍆🍆
I said the same, so many little transitions were missed
