Liege of Inveracity by Suffocation is a good one. Some cool tempo changes and prominently features the hammer blast, where the kicks and snare are played at the same tempo
I'm not sure if anyone already mentioned, Darkside is a percussionist and used to play the xylophone. I think most of his cymbal work comes from that background, crazy creative stuff when applied to extreme metal.

Mgla is officially two guys: M (Mikolaj Zentara) - guitars and vocals, and Darkside (Maciej Kowalski) - drums. Live lineup is, apart from the M and Darkside, NVT (Piotr Dziemski) lead guitar and The Fall (Michal Stepien) - bass and backup vocals. Now, M and Darkside are also the official lineup of Kriegsmaschine (currently only-recording band, from which Mgla started as a side-project). NVT and The Fall used to play in Medico Peste, another great Polish BM band, and now are in Owls, Woods, Graves, together with M. The Fall and Darkside have formed the Hauntologist, a post-BM band. So, just the live lineup of Mgla is actually four Polish BM bands (plus B.K. the drummer for Owls, Woods, Graves), plus Medico Peste 🙂.
Now you've covered all the drummers I've recommended since I found your channel! Awesome! Darkside is great on the bells; I heard that his style is a result of his classical percussion training where he majored in xylophone. Definitely his cymbal flourishes and use of bells is what sets him apart from most drummers, let alone drummers in the extreme scene. I'm sure that bell section while maintaining the steady double kick and the back beat on the snare is what has made this video in particular go viral; it's definitely something unique! Some more drummers you might enjoy listening to: Navene Koperweis is currently in a project called ENTHEOS with his newly wed wife; he plays all the guitars and drums and she writes the lyrics and does the vocals. On the records they have their friend and amazing bassist Evan Brewer who is currently in Fallujah and used to be in Animosity with Navene which they both started when they were teenagers. Navene is also the original drummer for Animals as Leaders, but he left after recording their second album, as he was feeling artistically constrained. Amazing drummer worth checking out! ENTHEOS do have a live band, Navene plays drums live and they have some good guitarists to tour with them. They just use stems of the bass for live though; Evan's a monster on the bass and since they're close friends for decades, I doubt they want to look for a replacement despite the fact that Evan is too busy with Fallujah and his family to really tour. Speaking of Animals as Leaders, their current drummer is a Berklee graduate and a prodigy; some consider him one of the best living drummers today. His name is Matt Garstka and definitely worth checking out. He is far less influenced by extreme metal drumming than he is influenced by gospel and jazz, but he mixes all kinds of styles beautifully... And he's one of those drummers who prefers the sound of acoustic drums to triggers but still enjoys using double kick patterns. For something more extreme, check out our neighbors, First Fragment from Quebec. Their current drummer has a great playthough; look for "Soif Brûlante Drum Playthrough by Nicholas Le Fou Wells." Forest is on bass for that band; I mentioned him a long time ago on your Death reaction. He's probably my favorite bassist in the extreme metal scene. I opened for one of the bands he was in when he was playing with Quo Vadis; they had just released an album where they had Steve Digorgio (the bassist on Death's album "Individual Thought Patterns", which the song you reacted to is off of) do session bass. Forest is probably one of the few bassists who could fill Steve's shoes, especially back then in the early 2000's when the metal scene was anemic. I also opened for Forest in his other band (which he is still in and is still going strong, despite the fact that their lead songwriter/guitarist/vocalist has a full time job as a high school teacher!) Augury in that era too! First Fragment is an incredibly talented band, so I can't recommend them enough! I'd also recommend checking out Beyond Creation's video for "Omnipresent Perception", which also has Forest on bass; less so about watching the drummer and more so the entire band. Almost a decade ago Forest left that band as they started to get popular and he helped them find a replacement with one of his bass students, Hugo! Hugo's also a beast on the fretless bass! Alternatively, if you want to focus on their drummer, their current drummer, Phillip Boucher has some good, official play throughs online. He's also a former drummer of First Fragment!
Dude thanks so much for this comment, so much interesting stuff and awesome information. I took a screen grab and I’m gonna go over it to make sure I don’t miss anything. what about Kerim ´Krimh´ Lechner (Septicflesh, Daath, his own project, ex-Decapited and others, fill in live for Behemoth and others) or Evgeny Novikov (Slaughter to Prevail, ex-Katalepsy, socks, gravity blasts, playing with his sticks backwards and all that good stuff 😉) and maybe Eugene Ryabchenko (Fleshgod Apocalypse and many, many things) and maybe few of the Obscura guys (Obscura is technical progressive death metal band based in Germany) Hannes Grossmann, David Diepold (current drummer) or Sebastian Lanser (current Obsidian and also Panzerballett, which music is described as a jazz-metal)
By the way, he is not using triggers, just regular pedals made by polish company called Czarcie Kopyto (devils hoof), which are one of the best out there.
You should definitely make a video of you doing the bleed double bass pattern mixed with the bell pattern from this at the same time and see how much you hate yourself or me
Black metal drummers aren't getting enough resppect and they deserve more, Nils Fjellström, Darkside, Frost, Hellhammer and many more just need to be known for how intricate and technical what they do, can be.
Try "Kai Hahto - Winter Madness - Drumcam" for one of your reactions. He has played everything from jazz to grindcore. This song is from Wintersun and it's an oldie but the drumming is awesome. If I remember correctly the main riff is in 3/4, then 5/4 when the vocals come in and a bunch of crap like that but you won't even notice because he blasts the whole way through most of it.
Kai Hahto is a must for sure! Sons of Winter and Stars is a great one too, although a bit on the longer side as far as songs go. Winter Madness alternates throughout the song with 3/4, 5/4, 4/4 and 6/4.
Oh yo that makes sense with those quick syncopations, that’s definitely a hold over from his xylophone days. That’s so interesting. Does he have a classical background??
@@yarpyarp85 yep, he does. Also, one time after Mgla show I asked him about this bell pattern and he said that this is total improvisation. There's no any definite bell pattern and every time he plays that moment, bell pattern is always different

Black Metal artists generally hide their identities for one reason or another, in one way or another, stagemanship, actual wish to be unknown, or many other reasons. Usually they hide their faces in makeup and long hair, sometimes it is masks, and sometimes just scarfs, every type of Black Metal leans their own way and use their own style. ahh this guy (okay, his outfit) reminded me of the Locust, and realized that the late, great Gabe Serbian would make an awesome reaction video... if there were any clean videos of him playing. Unfortunately it's mostly live stuff and the sound is blown out to hell. Fun to watch on your own but not sure if it'd make good content lol. He had such an awesome, unique style.
Another suggestion: Replacire's "The Center that Cannot Hold" off the album of the same name. unfortunately it's audio only, no drum cam footage from their guy Joey Ferretti (yet). The whole band is (or was, not sure with lineup changes) a bunch of Berklee nerds, if that tells you anything about what to expect!
Love these reactions! I think you'd love jazzy Joey Baca from the contortionist, he has a live playthrough of a song called Language thats super tight!🤘
Residual blight by kriegsmachine is the song you should have looked at for DS imo. Even for mgla I would have said futility ii instead of v but to each their own.

yo, awesome work. Check the With Heart Towards None VII, where whole intro is builded by cymbals. Also the band name is like MGWUAH (the fog/mist in polish), drummer name is Maciej Kowalski. You can find two warm up videos of him which are ultra sick. Greetings.
His page: youtube.com/@dksdmgl?si=S4ezY6r4iPJoYdeF Excercises is a masterpiece in black metal from start to finish. Residual Blight (Kriegsmaschine) is another one of his crazy performances. And his new band Hauntologist is pretty sweet; song Deathdreamer is sick.
Def look up his channel. His channel name is Dksdmgl. He has uploaded some few samples there. Also, check out Kriegsmaschine - Residual Blight (one of his other projects).
it's black metal, not death metal or any other kind of metal you were thinking of, why it doesn't sound like you were expecting. and the covering was just to keep it about the music, not the members.
Honestly I was super bored until the last 2 minutes. The end made up for the whole thing lol. I was thinking why do people want to see this. The end was pretty dope. Not nearly as dope as And Plague Flowers the Kaleidoscope by Ne Obliviscaris. You gotta watch the offical Dan Presland studio playthrough tho. That whole thing is epic. Also bleed is coming along nicely 4 hour shed hats off to you. 🤘🏽
I was really disappointed when I found out this band are actual nazis. They play as live mucisians for Finnish neo-nazi Mikko Aspa's one-man band Clandestine Blaze.
It's not really something they parade about so to speak and this band's music specifically is not explicitly political but yes, they absolutely have those nasty ties. They seem to have managed to hide it fairly well even from many of their own fans. At the end of the day it's everyone's own decision whether to separate the art from the artist but I personally draw the line at active contributions to the nazi movement.
No, they are not nazis. True, they did play in Clandestine Blaze a while ago, but that does not mean they share or have shared his ideology. Mikko Aspa is also a vocalist for Deathspell Omega but the other guys in that band said they do not share his views but they do separate the art (music) from the artist.
You can't compared a Death Metal vocalist and a Black Metal vocalist. Doesn't make any sense. Same for drummers to be honest. Completely different approaches and interpretations of the genre. Also, 90% of Black Metal bands hide their identity in some form.

@@TheMourningBlade Hahaha nonono thank u for watching my friend!
ahh this guy (okay, his outfit) reminded me of the Locust, and realized that the late, great Gabe Serbian would make an awesome reaction video... if there were any clean videos of him playing. Unfortunately it's mostly live stuff and the sound is blown out to hell. Fun to watch on your own but not sure if it'd make good content lol. He had such an awesome, unique style.
I’m gonna check it out for sure thanks bro!
Your voice is very pleasant to listen to. Give Sepultura a try, the band always had great drummers. I'd suggest the song "Territory".
Dang that’s really nice of you. Complements go a long way lolol. I will 100% react to it. Thank u!
Thanks that sounds like it’s right up my alley
Love these reactions! I think you'd love jazzy Joey Baca from the contortionist, he has a live playthrough of a song called Language thats super tight!🤘
Sick thank u so much I’ll check it out for sure!
He is a percussionist.
Aric Improta - Blur Lights in the Videodrome, but it's 40 minutes long so be prepared for that one
Oh shit, I’ll watch it though! Thanks!
Awesome reaction! Just watch Sebastian Lanser, he will blow your mind ;)
Cheers!
Cheers! And thanks so much!!!
You should check out elliot hoffman from car bomb. Dudes insane
I gotta everyone has been mentioning him. Thankssss!
so good
Mom!! I love u thanks!
Residual blight by kriegsmachine is the song you should have looked at for DS imo. Even for mgla I would have said futility ii instead of v but to each their own.
That shit is balls deep!!!🤘
Hahahah for sure
Great video. You say you can play that. Kriegsmachine - "Residual Blight" is Darksides another project. If you can play that then you are a GOAT. Kevin Paradis did a cover of this song check it out and start learning:)
Hahaha I m learning bleed right now but after that I’m gonna be taking some suggestions. 😉😉 I might have to check it out🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
yo, awesome work. Check the With Heart Towards None VII, where whole intro is builded by cymbals. Also the band name is like MGWUAH (the fog/mist in polish), drummer name is Maciej Kowalski. You can find two warm up videos of him which are ultra sick. Greetings.
If you want a crazy reaction you should react to Infant Annihilator Cuntcrusher drum playthrough by Aaron Kitcher it would blow yor mind
Ok I’ve definitely heard of that and I think it’s about time I watch it. Thanks!
check out Nils Dominator Fjellström - Dark Funeral - Vobiscum Satanas drum cam :p
Ya a lot of people have suggested him, I gotta check him out for sure. Thanks!
Meanwhile Darkside: "who the f... is that guy?!!!"
Lolz🤦♂️

Excercises is a masterpiece in black metal from start to finish.
Residual Blight (Kriegsmaschine) is another one of his crazy performances.
And his new band Hauntologist is pretty sweet; song Deathdreamer is sick.
Nice! Thanks eh!
No the bells are only in this song.
Oh ok, well he rocks them in this tune like crazy
"Where did you cone from?" Poland....
My useless life - melancholic overdose
Thanks!!!
Hauntologist - Hollow. Darkside (Maciej Kowalski) has a new album with Michał Stępień and it rocks.
Sick gonna check it out!!
Thanks!
I highly recommend Luke Holland - Tendinitis drum playthrough
Ya dude I’ve seen it, I love Luke. Been a fan since way back🤘🤘
Also u look so good
Haha u must love me so much. I thought the light would make me look younger, I’m not to sure 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔lol
You should check out Mayhem My death drum cam, from 2011 i think. Drummer is hellhammer
Nice thanks dude! I’ll add him to the list!
@@yarpyarp85 the video was recently re-uploaded around 7 months ago. Really love his cymbal work.
Def look up his channel. His channel name is Dksdmgl. He has uploaded some few samples there. Also, check out Kriegsmaschine - Residual Blight (one of his other projects).
Go to it.
🤘🥁🤘🥁🤘🥁🤘🥁🤘thanks!
Needs more cowbell!
🤘always!
2024 and people are watching yotube commercials? havent done that over 10 years
Right! I gotta get premium!
it's black metal, not death metal or any other kind of metal you were thinking of, why it doesn't sound like you were expecting. and the covering was just to keep it about the music, not the members.
Watch Darkside in Hauntologist Death dreamer on his you tube channel
Sick I’ll check it out thanks!
uBlock origin my man lmao
😉😉
the bell pattern is something like RLRRLRLRRLRRLRRL LRLRLRRLRRLLRLRL RLRRLRRLRRLLRLRL RRLLRLRLRLRRLRRL i'm pretty sure
Dude! Thank u that’s awesome! Annnnnd completed lol
That would be a great song to learn but you need 2 hi-hats you'll see why lol
Thanks bro ya I’m doing my best with the time I have free, been gigging a lot. I’ll check that out for sure!
do it! learn the pattern!
Busy learning bleeed lolol
I was really disappointed when I found out this band are actual nazis. They play as live mucisians for Finnish neo-nazi Mikko Aspa's one-man band Clandestine Blaze.
Is this real?
If that’s a real thing I don’t support that at all. Bummed I reacted to them now
It's not really something they parade about so to speak and this band's music specifically is not explicitly political but yes, they absolutely have those nasty ties.
Sure nazis... Poland is known for their nazis... Wait what? :) ridiculous comment.
proof pls, that u can :)
Hahah I should have said it lol, I can but I’m busy learning bleed now 😭😭😭
@@yarpyarp85 all fine ;)
brother get adblock on your computer :')
I got it now soooorrrryyyy 😭😭
You can't compared a Death Metal vocalist and a Black Metal vocalist.
Doesn't make any sense.
Same for drummers to be honest.
Completely different approaches and interpretations of the genre.
Also, 90% of Black Metal bands hide their identity in some form.
You're just bashing the band.. if you don't like it.. don't view it.. are maybe you can't play like him..
Nonono dude u got me all wrong. I love it, I like legit love almost everything I hear so I’m not the best judge lolol but what did I even say?
Maybe I was saying I didn’t like the vocals? Just not my favourite, but they could grow on me. 😉😉
