I never understood why twitter was bullying her relentlessly and the only conclusion I got was she is a plus size poc with a slightly "cringey" disney career. She looks like a genuine nice person, and for a generation who is always asking for justice for minorities, this was very hypocrital and absolutely dissappointing to witness online

You are correct, it is because she is a plus size POC who is not conventionally attractive. That's the whole core of the joke, take someone who they (the bullies) deem to be "worthless" because of her looks and career and pit her against more conventionally attractive, more accomplished superstars like Beyonce. The whole "joke" is it's obvious Raini cannot measure up to them, despite being extremely talented on her own. It's really sad and disgusting on every level the way they treated her all for a joke that wasn't even funny to begin with. The people that started the meme clearly don't care about POC issues, or issues that plus sized people face.

Backhanded compliments are absolutely hurtful. I had a few high school bullies who would follow me around saying things sarcastically like "my friend thinks you're soooo hot" "my friend wants your p***y", etc. I knew they only said it because they thought I was ugly (glasses, super pale skin with acne, thick curly hair I couldn't manage - all of which I'm now totally happy with). I got things like that a lot growing up too. I was the awkward shy autistic kid. People would dare their friends to ask me out, or make fun of other people by saying they had a crush on me. I had a few people pretend to be my friend so they could talk to me, then make fun of me behind my back about whatever I did or said and joke that I actually thought they would want to be my friend. That happened once even as an adult at a previous job. I can't believe these people. I'm convinced they did worse things to people they were actually closer to. disgusting, and honestly imma talk to my therapist about it at some point. I'm really sorry you went through that 🤍
I agree though, it's really disgusting and it makes you feel genuinely unsafe at times. At one point one of the main guys who harassed me was with a group of his friends. He cornered me while I was trying to walk up stairs, got all close, grabbed my arm, and I physically had to push him aside and yank my arm free to get away. It was frightening and humiliating and I had no idea how far the "joke" was going to be taken. My "friend" Summer did nothing to help me lol. Still fucks me up to think about.

One kid in middle school was dared to ask me out as a joke & I didn't know it was a joke at the time but I yelled at him in front of everyone in the school cafeteria "ew f no, gross" & laughed then he said it's just a joke. Well nobody ever did that to me again. He was so embarrassed that my lil undesirable nerdy self found him repulsive he avoided me at all costs & I had never see him date anyone ever throughout all our school years, then a few yrs ago I found out he's in prison for statutory r word smfh. I may have been nerdy, fat, & ugly af but I've never had to groom someone into sleeping with me & that's more than he can say. Also I found this out bc I work with his younger brother who also has asked me out seriously lmao. As far as her relationship with Ross, I think we can make ourselves see what we want to see. I remember as a tween I liked watching interviews of Ross and Laura and they had similar behaviors. As a kid I thought it meant that they were secretly dating, but as an adult, I’m aware that guys and girls can have close relationships without it being romantic. Unless otherwise stated by the cast themselves, I truly believe that they were all just good friends.
Besides, after having the internet pay her backhanded compliments for years, I think the least we can do is not create another imagined narrative around her and leave her private life to her. (Why does anyone care anyway? Is she suddenly more valuable as a human because someone who is conventionally attractive may have dated her 10 years ago?)

I went off Twitter back in early 2016 (for obvious reasons) so I missed all of this debacle, and only ever a few memes trickle over to Instagram. I was so confused watching the clips of her that people were making fun of, I kept waiting for the embarrassing part and it never came! She seems sweet, talented, and has a beautiful voice! I’m glad she is finding success now, she seems like she deserves it!

I do admit that I did watch a few of these memes on UA-cam to try to understand why it was a meme or what was so "funny" about them, but then sort of left it alone and moved on because I thought the whole thing was super dumb.

I could probably explain why Raini was bullied. People in this world, unfortunately, want to tear others down, whether they are in their lives or not. People do it out of fun for their own entertainment. Then there are people who envy stars' success. It's insane to me how people can be so mean to people who are in the entertainment industry. I feel sorry for Raini and overall became strong through this troubling time.
