The fact that ADULTS were coming for a 13 year old child for a song, whether it was a good song or not, is astounding. I'm glad she was able to come out from this on the other side.
Agree it was really horrendous. reminds me of how grown adults jumped on the I hate Justin Bieber bandwagon
it's what adults of the internet do best. look at all the 25+ years old males who insult Billie Eilish on every platform imaginable. they're all men and at this point, i don't even know what drives them to do this things to young girls. it's pathetic even for men.
Pretty warped isn’t it? Adults behave so horrendously
This is disgusting.
I was a teen when this happened, I can say I wasn't a fan. But I didn't go online and make her life a horror the way others have....none of this is ever ok for any child.
My son is 3 years away from her age at this time. And the thought of my child dealing with this is terrifying.
@@emiliamut9192 it's probably misogyny, since males love attacking things that are mainly beloved by girls
I love how Katy Perry saved Rebecca Black by putting her in her music video. Such a cool big sister move of her 🥰
Katy knows first hand about hate from the population
Nice!
that’s such a lovely thing to do
Katy Perry is a shill
i just saw her in dorian electras song edgelord and even added little references from the friday video, its a banger and I love the visuals
It was such a weird phenomenon. Imagine being a kid and taking part in something, like a cheesy school play. Imagine that being posted on the internet for fun and then getting death threats over it? It’s insanity, it was a dorky video, how does it warrant death threats?
The fact that Bruno Mars called her song "one of the best songs ever written" is honestly quite heartwarming. At least not everyone was willing to be cruel.
Well he was obviously being sarcastic.
Ummmm. Has he heard Bohemian Rhapsody?
I love how celebrities were repping for her. Weither they liked the song or not it's nice to see them putting that aside to encourage a young creator.
My husband never heard the song or anything about it, so when I told him about this debacle he pulled up the video to see for himself, and he was very confused as to how it got so much hate! He said “this sounds like half the shit on the radio now, I was expecting way worse!” And now the song is stuck in his head and he can’t stop sing “Friday, Friday” under his breath 🤣🤣🤣
He was sarcastic, so how was that not cruel? Bc he was sarcastic he didn't say the mean words verbaĺly, I was actually very disappointed bc he didn't have to fuel the discussion in any way , it didn't relate to him at all!!
We need to stop making fun of teenage girls for enjoying things. :(
So true. They really are the most vulnerable among us to that sort of thing, having already thought of every possible criticism themselves already, in every area of their lives, so that such an attack is like confirmation of their worst fears. We need to protect them. Remind them of the beautiful beings they are, and will become, every last one of them.
Teenagers should NOT be in the spotlight nor on the internet
No we should go back to doing it more often
Yes, that is such a prevalent thing and it needs to stop. We don't go after teenage boys like that, we need to stop mocking girls.
@@kelseykid1 ONLY.... because the fact that humans can't help but bully and ab*se the famous till they want to die. Not just regular people, celebs get it worse. The world is after them. And it isn't there fault . Adults bullying kids. EMBARASSING
She is so strong for getting through this. God she was 13.
Right!!! And I applause her for having the guts to put out something she really felt passionate about. I could NEVER do that at 13!
And not just now, but all across the 10 years since, she's been putting out some quite lovely songs and videos, covers and originals, about 60 or so easily searchable on YT alone. Some of her stuff from 2017 (Great Divide, etc.) is amazing.
I actually enjoy this. It's like white privilege taking a dark turn. LMFAOOO
@Sara Moustamandi doesn't have to be everyone idiot, it just has to be the majority! Sorry try again
She such a Beautiful strong Girl ThankGod she got through it
I will never understand people sending death threats over something as inconsequential as a song, especially one by a 13-year-old girl.
And she didn't even say anything horrible! It's a song about Friday 🤦♀️ people acted like she sang about kicking puppies.
@@esmeraldagreengate4354 Tbh, Friday had a better message or content than many songs that only talk about drugs, money and sex. Even though it was bad.
Seriously it’s like just don’t watch it WTF
It wasn't even that bad; the intro song at 1 minute in this video was so horrible I tried at my tv to stop.
No what else? I'd listen to this song once a week if it meant I never had to hear anything by AC/DC ever again.
I just don't get why this song...why? Nickelback exists ffs!
I played "Friday" for my 5th grade students once on a Friday before starting class. Now, every Friday they ask me to play "the Friday song." They actually love it because it is catchy.
no way my teacher uses to play that for me when i was in 14 in 9th grade we used to we used to all get up and dance literally hahahaha it was fun may GOD keep Rebecca and bless her 🙏🙌 and her family
That’s terrible poor kids
I remember this coming out. My roommate showed me, and we laughed it off as a bit of cringe that she might be embarrassed by as an adult and moved on. Then, seeing how openly cruel people were being was shitty. You didn't have to love it, you could think it was bad, but why mock a child in public? Why say anything at all? I'm glad she's doing so well now.
I was in high-school and most people just kinda rolled their eyes like they did with Justin Beiber but some people were like wow she should kill herself. Its amazing how she bounced back. She's so strong ❤
Because people hate girls. Especially teen girls. Society teaches us to laugh at and make fun of teen girls just for doing things they love. Especially grown ass men… so gross.
Same, I didn't even find the song that bad, it was pretty catchy and I genuinely thoughr she was very good-looking.

@@Twat_Dirtmy using a slightly unconvenrional word to describe a girl's beauty garners this reaction from you is creeping me out more.
people sending her death threats just because the song was bad really scared me back then. why would anyone do that? poor her
Back then, the world was so fucking different, if I didn’t live through it I wouldn’t believe it.
Everyone feels fine being a jerk when they don’t have to say it to her face. It’s so devastating.
That's weird. !!! Wtf!
@@danyelliebelly6964 It's not that different now. Look at Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo. They receive lots of hate just for being famous
Yeah, people are all brave behind their Internet anonymity, in ways for which they know they'd get knocked on their butts (and rightly so) IRL. It's as if our innate sense of how to socialize hasn't caught up with the technology, and we're still trying to figure out how to impose the proper limiting consequences for boorish, hurtful behavior. But a verbal attack delivered online registers in our brains as an actual event just like one face to face does. And with just as devastating consequences emotionally, to the victim and to the culprit. Social media is like a loaded weapon... Or maybe like a magnifying glass, expanding both good and bad, up into toxic proportions.
13 years old and grown adults sending her death threats because of a song. Disgusting. So proud of her overcoming it all, and becoming the strong woman she is. Humans are horrible.
Not all humans.
@@stephaniejackson7942 no all
those aren't adults, those are big ass angry children that never matured enough to even be labelled an adult.
it makes me wanna give up on humanity truly. how can such a huge amount of people be so cruel for no reason. the planet is already collapsing and we’re out here ruining each others lives for fun?? it’s just making things 10x worse
@@yuh1567no, not all
I was a later fan of Kingsley and not gonna lie… it was crazy hearing him talk like that about a 13 year old CHILD. This whole situation was fucked up and she shouldn’t have ever had to hear things like that. She’s clearly a very strong person for coming out the other side of that
i’ve never seen him talk about her like that!
And then seeing her and Kingsley together towards the end of the video 🤢 I hope he apologized to her before they recorded that video.
I remember him uploading that video at the time … unfortunately his response was the norm back then
@@MollieRalston what CNN did was downright petty and crude
That's why I don't watch CNN, Fox News or MSNBC they're not "news" channels never have been
i found it funny when i was younger. I wonder how I’ll feel looking back now
you know the saddest thing (besides the hate)... she didn't even write the song. And at least it was parody worthy, instead of forgettable
I did like that the parodies didn't shame or make fun of her just the concept itself
Most parodies weren't even that good, like, the bar was set extremely low and they managed to slither right underneath. They were basically playing limbo with the expectations 😭
Katy Perry is the Queen. It‘s easy to say „let the girl alone“ in an interview, but i’m sure putting her in her Music Video really improved her Situation
You are totally right. Its so easy to say something, but people who actually Do something about to help others are really golden.
It did Katy Perry was so kind
Katy is now a girl mom and I'm sure she's amazing at it!❤ I don't know who this young lady Rebecca is, but I wish her nothing but true happiness and good vibes❤
"Queen?" lol She cannot sing for S***!!! Clean your ears. This girl needs to realize this is NOT for her. It's 2023, and she has no talent. She needs to move on. REALITY HURTS!!! The problem with society is we have people who cannot face reality. A 1 thousand lbs Whale cannot be a Supermodel. We have to lie, and say "We don't want to hurt someone's feelings, so we need to lie to them." GROW UP!!!
so much respect for Katy Perry for stepping in to defend Rebecca. I always loved the song 🥺 she was just a child, she never deserved the hate she got.
I'm amazed by how strong she is. Teens in more recent years have taken their own lives over TikTok bullying. And yet practically the whole world hated Rebecca Black - a teen's nightmare come true - and that's not even much of an exaggeration. If anyone can be a teen role model and ambassador, she can, now that she has been through this. I love her pragmatic attitude, ability to laugh at herself to a certain extent, understanding of where a line has been crossed, and acknowledgement of her own personal limits. Everyone needs these qualities.
if I was Rebecca Black i wouldn't even accept the apologies😂

all the grown ass people that terrorized a little girl who decided to sing for fun with her friends… something is coming for you sooner or later
They were all just jealous of a 13 year old was having fun and making money eventually from her dream. She made more money than they will probably ever make in their entire life. It all comes down to jealousy and it said the people harassed a 13-year-old for just being a kid and having fun.
@Mellu
Yep. God Said”VENGEANCE IS MINE”
Facts. What goes around really does come back around. It's just the way it works in this life.
I hope so!
Seeing grown old ass adults screeching about her is disturbing. I never knew that's how bad it was, I mostly just joked with friends and forgot it existed. I'm glad she's made a comeback and is doing well now. Really goes to show her character.
How weak do you have to be to get this angry over a child's song? I can't imagine letting something harmless effect me that much.
Dude, Rebecca Black is an icon now. We should all be ashamed of the way we reacted to the video initially. It shows just how strong she is by overcoming something like that. She is definitely an inspiration.
I agree I remember loving her friday song I mean it wasn't that bad it breaks my heart how people are so messed up she was literally 13 years old
I hated it, but I just hated the song. I don't know how those crazy people function who judge her entirely as a person by a bad song. She is inspiring.
@@Latte-girly90 what are you some sort of icon police or smth
@Mandi W The only thing iconic here is the terrible song - which she didn’t write. She’s iconic for having her mommy pay 4-5K to a producer? 🤣🤣🤣

She never deserved the hate she got. It really wasn’t that bad of a song. I’m so proud of her for being so strong and never giving up on her dream. She’s really an inspiration
Absolutely. Mmmbop was dumb, but I don't remember anyone telling the Hansons to get an eating disorder and die to improve their looks. Sick, evil people!
@@billparrish4385 well people did say they looked like girls, especially Taylor but the bullying was nowhere near as bad as Rebecca got.
@kibblewibble Pardon me for being imprecise. My point was intended to be that it was _as dumb_ as Friday, yet the Hansons never got the cyberbullying that was visited on Rebecca.
Theirs was an angsty teen-anthem treatment of love, with what has been called 'white boy scatting' for a chorus.
Hers was a middle-schooler's celebration of the upcoming weekend, with an overly-descriptive listing of the day's trivial details, mixed entirely wrong for her (at the time) very forward voice placement.
Neither one was, shall we say, the nadir of the art form. But the one act got praises, while the other (who was never actually supposed to BE an act, whose intended audience for the paid video vanity project was a few hundred friends, classmates and family, which got accidentally 'discovered' by a comedian with a national platform, who made making fun of it a 'thing'), while the other got death threats.
Over a bubble gum tween song.
@@billparrish4385 trust me they did. People were just as awful back then. As a fan of Hanson at that time people would say awful shit to me for liking them. I was lol 12-13.
@@billparrish4385 the internet wasn't as big and social media wasn't a thing back when Hanson was popular. We didn't have facebook. In fact I think I knew like 3 people who had internet at home and that was because they needed it for their jobs.
I was in college, and we definitely liked it as a “it’s so bad it’s good” kind of thing, but definitely unironically played it at all our house parties!! 🤣🤣🤣
I'm the same age as Rebecca and I was bullied at age 13 too. I remember how painful it was, and how miserable people at my school made me feel for trying to be myself. I can't even imagine if I'd still be here today if I had to endure bullying on a global scale like she was. Mad respect.
I feel bad for Rebecca Black that song was bad, but it wasn't her fault she did what the company wanted her to do. Rebecca herself is actually a really amazing singer. I've heard her sing on The Four she was so good! Poor Rebecca.
Don’t feel too bad for Rebecca she persevered and she’s making incredibly fun and cool music now. A major baddie
She was really young to like around 14
She's a sweetheart
@@charlieboy1087 true! I'm glad that she made it through that
even if she was responsible for every single part of the song and video, she did not deserve what we as a culture gave her.
Most of those cyber bullies were grown adult men
Yet they Act like little babies they are disgusting
Patrice is the one who should've gotten all the hate! Not poor Rebecca. Everyone, EVERYONE knows this song; good or bad, love it or hate it, they do and whether they admit they've sang it on Friday or about a Friday. So she wins.
I've actually never heard it
This was the first I’d heard of it. Feel terrible for her.
Imagine the entire world looking and judging you when you’re 13...crazy how she got through that
I feel bad for Rebecca, but that song was SOOO bad. But the attacks should have been directed at the song, producers and record label, not at the 13-year-old girl.
when i saw the old man yelling at the video, it made me think "why? why are you so angry?" IMO, the reasoning behind why many people were actually angry/hating on her, could be jealousy. She had her parents pay to have this produced, and she (seemingly) wasn't a good singer and had "made it". It's the "entitled millennial" hatred, too. The annoying nature of the song just fueled it. Not that it excuses how she was treated.
@@orangeradishneo That man disgusted me the most of everything I saw in this documentary! Like the younger guy they showed being critical at the same time… It certainly wasn’t great and I hope he regrets it now but it wasn’t vicious in the same way the old man is and call me silly but I expect people to gain wisdom and kindness with age

I mean it's just a song at the end of the day. Like it never affected my life.
Ark gives me creepy vibes.
And everything Patrice said about the whole thing grosses me out.
In other words, I think Ark is actually just as bad or even much worse in terms of corporate behaviour than its much bigger counterparts, UMG, SME and WMG.
I was also 13, when I was being cyber bullied and bullied at school. I remember feeling this deep pit in my stomach, and I dreaded going to school. I was so nervous each morning, and I’d always feel so nauseous.
I can’t even imagine what Rebecca felt at 13, receiving death threats over a song. My god was she so strong
Not kingsley bullying her when Friday came out and then acting cutsie with her at playlist live when people started liking her 🙄
Not defending him, but that video was definitely a product of its time. It was cool to make "edgy" videos back in the late 00s/early 2010s and thats the type of humor that was rampant amongst youtubers/teens back in the day. Hopefully everyone's grown and learned since then but a lot of things that were considered normal at the time would definitely not fly in today's climate.
exactly what I was thinking
@@IlikepurpleXPhonestly that doesn’t make it okay! Just because everyone else’s morals are shitty around you doesn’t mean you have to stoop low as well it just shows your true colors🤷🏽♀️tbh
I was her age when I saw her getting all the hate. I always thought it was undeserved. She seems like a sweet person, and her new music slaps. Girlfriend is a fucking BOP
YESS I LOVE PERSONAL TOO
"the world hates me, i'm going to die" ugh it just breaks my heart what she went through.
I've seen depressing things pretty much daily, but this? This almost broke me. I can't even fathom how she got through that. She's 100% my new personal hero. I'm eight years older than her, but she's the one schooling me and I'm just grateful for the lessons. She deserves all the happiness she can have. If we can be a fraction as strong and resilient as she is, can you imagine what we could accomplish?
She seems like the sweetest nicest person ever🥺 I’m glad she is in a better place.. she didn’t deserve any of the hate she got especially when she was a child
Death threats and stuff over a bad yet catchy song and video? I had no idea that she went through all of that. There are some sick people in this world.
Fake sick people in a digital world
ether did i this is crazy 😧 i actually think 🤔 it's a pretty dope song my teacher uses play for in the class room us while we dance every Friday 😁😂😂😂😂 i there are far more worst songs then Friday like i love you like a love song by Selena gomez or all over just Justin Bieber older songs which was beyond annoying
Yes this entire piece sums up and solidifies the fact that 99.9% of people who preach about loving one another and not bullying are just hypocrites and fake. To see grown ass adults do this to a child is just disgusting. More disgusting to see grown ass adults with a platform should have been canceled immediately. This is never ok.
I actually thought she was brilliant and so good to see how amazing she is today.
100000000% it'll be the same ppl who are now preaching in a world were u can be anything be kind .ii see it all the time and just think wow. Shame is many of these adults will have been or gone onto be parents n make a whole new generation of haters who monkey see monkey do x
This is so sad. When Friday came out actually my siblings and I absolutely loved it and use to blast it like crazy at home! I want Rebecca to know that not everyone hated it and especially her! We became huge fans after that actually, especially me.
I unironically LOVE 'Friday'. When it came out I instantly liked the video and sung it to annoy my friends. I always liked her and I'm so glad she's persevering. Love her!
Bart baker owes Rebecca black an apology. That parody is rancid.
Lol. He dont have to apologize for nothing, his videos were always funny as hell
So tosh.0 was the reason a mob of hate went to an unsuspecting teenager?
Wow!! That is awful!
Yeah, she was a lot easier on him in that interview than I would have been, either in her place, or just as me. Guy's a tool, and rode that 'comedy hobby horse' of finding obscure things on the Internet to make fun of, for all it was worth. Maybe he could spend a quarter and find someone to write him a _second_ joke, so he can run that one into the ground. Hack....
It was actually tumblr that originally blew the song up on the internet.
She is the coolest & most resilient. We failed her, and she proved us all wrong. She did everything right. The world owes her a BIG apology.
I love how Kingsley was dragging her and literally attacking her as a person like not even her song but like her and then he had to see her at bit con. Like lol wonder if he ever apologized lol
Honestly! I thought that was the same guy. I watched his facial expression’s when glozelle was hyping her up and I HOPE he felt embarrassed and ashamed.
I noticed this lol
In hindsight it really is so unfortunate how people dragged her like that. For such a young person that causes lifelong PTSD.
Your enemy will always make you, Always
I wonder did Kingsley apologise to Rebecca after they met at that in person event!!
he probably didn't had the guts to do it. Anyways It's not like she should forgive him
i was hoping someone noticed this too!!
He was the worst
RIGHT! I was looking for this comment. I was a fan of his back then and the same age as Rebecca. It makes me wonder if he realized he was saying those ugly things about a 13 year old girl. Seeing him smiling to the side at her party gave such weak bitch vibes, he knew what he said but had the nerve to smile to the side like he was happy for her.
She’s owed a major apology.

I used to love the sing though so as a kid I thought nothing of it.
Well, yes, I do agree it was gross, it was made during his “weird” era (2010-2012) and he put in his description that it wasn’t meant to make fun of Rebecca.
@@kiteleeashakaashlynnbailey6048 sure it was acceptable at the time but putting "i didn't mean for this to (do whatever the outcome was)" doesn't absolve him. he obviously was trying to make fun of her and capitalize off of it too.

It was a „hit“ because of the shitty lyrics

Wow I can't believe Kingsley did that. I actually liked him. SMH. Anyway at least Katy Perry has a heart and helped Rebecca out
I feel so bad for her i hated that song when it came out but I didn't try and harass her over it I just didn't listen to it why do people have to be so cruel to others who are just trying to like their life and not harm anyone
Because they don't have anything in their life to be happy. Therefore they have to make everyone else feel like they do so that they feel "better" about themselves... it's childish really...
Everytime I watch one of your new videos and more and more impressed with this channel.
She was 13. She was a child, an innocent child who just wanted to have fun. Shame on all the adults who picked on her. She’s an icon, and I’m so damn glad she’s overcome all that.

Nice to see that Tosh is still a class-a jerk 🙄 rebecca is such a strong and beautiful soul.
True! If he was really interested in seeing if she still held it against him, and apologizing if she did (or whatever her thoughts, apologizing anyway), a sincere person would not use it as his opening interview question. Guy's a tool. He's run that whole 'find something obscure on the Internet and make fun of it' into the ground. Maybe one day he'll find a _second_ joke...
It’s so sad how she and I basically had the same personality and aspirations and essentially, I hated her for doing what I didn’t have the courage to do.. I was in 7/8th grade myself and ragging on her seemed so normal I didn’t even take into consideration how many ADULTS were bullying her.. 🥺
Great work!! Rebecca Black really did deserve a documentary about her, and with your quality it really made me a bigger fan of her. Bravo!! 👏🏼
Okay but her recent music is EVERYTHING! “Worth It For The Feeling” is one of my all time favorite songs!!
Yes!! Awesome song!
I was in elementary school when this came out and I never realized how terrible the backlash was especially because I didn't have direct access to the internet
Also now that I can understand how old she was the se*ualized parodies are extremely inappropriate like did they not realize they were talking about a 13 year old that way? Even if it was a parody why would you look at a 13 year old and think that's an okay thing to remix the song to while continuing to imitate her...
I remember when this song came out as well and I was in elementary school as well I was allowed access to the internet at the time cause my dad owned a computer before we was born so he would constantly change the computer but yeah I l actually liked the song but I didn’t even look at the comments back then

I actually loved her “My Moment” song back in the day! Kinda cringy, but used to give me a good vibe, and it can only come from a good vibe person! She’s nice and genuine. Love from Brazil!
Person Of Interest was also a bop ngl
Even her “Saturday” song was much better! I remember listening to it and being like “wait this isn’t that bad, she’s improving her voice!”
Imagine bullying a 13 year old. WTF
Another excellent video. I never understood the backlash against this poor girl. The song was a catchy little bop, and despite any cringe factor, it was certainly nowhere near the worst song ever, nor even the worst song that was out at the time. The bullying was just awful, and I'm impressed at her getting through it so well. Many adults wouldn't have survived.
appreciate this Friday 13th gift thank you
Extraordinary work. Killer edit and great perspective over time make this a great documentary.
And this is why I would never want to be famous and refuse to put myself out there
Too much controversy surrounding that/ lots of creepy people out there, bullying, etc

Man oh man it REALLY SICKENS me when I see bullying whether it's behind a computer screen or face to face!!!! Thank you Jake for sharing this vid!!!!
No one's deserved her comeback more than her. No one. It can't undo the pain she's suffered for close to half her life now (though she thankfully seems in a much better and stronger place thanks to her own perseverance), but the universe has gotten a rare chance to fix a major wrong it committed. Hopefully, everyone continuously learns from her and enjoys her art as well.
Well said 💜
@@britneytian3768 Brittney absolutely deserves and needs her justice, while arguing what's going on with her is a pretty different situation that's much more indicative of how fucked up and evil our legal system is as opposed to bullying of a child which is what I was referring to in my head. I'll admit my words were painting a pretty broad picture though on paper. Free fucking Brittney.
@@britneytian3768 Britney deserves freedom not a comeback.
Rebecca!! You are so strong for basically being the first internet sensation that was publicly bullied by every single person that watched your video. You overcame THAT??! You are amazing 💪
Star Wars Kid: Hold my lightsaber
It’s so sick how people usually criticize and sexualize these young girls who are still children! So disturbing, it really needs to stop.
So well done, Jake! I'm really impressed with how well you're doing with this channel & your platform. But, I'm not surprised. You've been getting more & more professional/experienced. And, the best part is you're thoughtful about your content. Great work! 👏🏻
YES! Jake obviously has a talent for film making.
Omg thank you sm @briar❤️ editing is my absolutely fav thing to do ahh !!
@@DeepDiveProductions You're so welcome. 🥰 You're definitely GREAT at it!
@@DeepDiveProductions you're absolutely 💯 at everything you do Jake! Straight up!
I was one of the people who made fun of the song, but never commented hateful shit.
I'm sorry Rebecca Black.
You grew up into such a beautiful person
Same I was a senior in highschool when it came out. I honestly thought it was a joke like she made it purposefully cringy. I never knew the full story poor kid. Good for her for not quitting and proving everyone wrong. Shes fantastic.
same i was in eighth grade. she went to school only 10 min away, we were both from socal. ironically i kind of look like her- and i even got bullied just for looking at her ! people would sing friday to me in the nasally voice and call me rebecca black constantly and i wasnt even her! it wasnt nearly as bad as what she went thru- just annoying, but she was just a little girl. i remember when she pulled out of school, we were in the same district and everyone was talking about it and said she deserved it. and she deserved it for what???
I didn’t think I would cry that hard. Rebecca is amazing, and thank you for sharing their story.
Shows how strong someone can be to get through such a terrible time, especially for a young teen! Glad Rebecca is able to come through to the positive side of life!
Your series of documentaries for Britney is a revolution thus far, and I refer it to friends all the time so they can see a truly in-depth analysis of her story. I love seeing this same level of research, production quality, and pure LOVE going into this video as well. Rebecca is a hero of mine. She suffered some of the most severe abuse from people all over the world; something most of us could never imagine. Yet she came out on the other side so strong. Not to mention she's a fantastic singer and songwriter, genuinely kind human being, and a role model in so many ways. Solidarity.
HELLLLLLLL YESSSSSS!!!! Another video way sooner than I even expected, YAY! Thank y’all so much!!! Loving it.
I remember joining in on the bashing. When Friday came out I wasn't much older than Rebecca herself, during the phase of adolescence where liking or caring about anything isn't cool, which is really just an attitude that grows out of insecurity and fear of rejection. The reason I did it was the same reason I pretended to hate Twilight and Justin Beiber - everyone else was doing it, and putting someone else down makes you feel above them. And if someone else is being shit on by everyone, you didn't want to be on their level lest the same thing happen to you. It's the reason high schoolers are obsessed with pecking orders. Or at least they were at the time, maybe Gen Z is doing better, idk. Now that I'm much older myself I can how weird and kinda creepy it was for full grown adults to engage in and encourage that sort of behavior. I think there's a sexist element to it as well. Ever notice how whatever teenage girls happen to be into at any given point is perceived as terrible and cringey?
There’s definitely a sexist element to it. Society teaches us to hate anything teen girls love and make fun of them for loving it. Boys scream and cry over football the same way girls scream and cry over boy bands… but which gender gets hate for their passion?
Dude. Literally same :( i really feel like a massive dkhead and would happily apologise to her despite her probs not seeing my comments
at least you know now, some men stay assholes forever
I'm glad you brought up how whenever ppl (usually women and girls like something - anything, it's shtted on). I always thought that sht is unbelievably weird. I'm glad you pointed out the insecurity and fear of rejection aspect of that.
this video was incredible, thankyou! i remember liking the song at the time, its heart breaking to see what rebecca had to deal with and how strong she came out of the other side.
Beautifully made, Deep Dive.
My heart still goes out to teen Rebecca & I’m glad she’s been healing and finding her way to do what she loves regardless of the haters. Thanks for sharing 💜
She did NOT deserve that! I just want to give her a hug. And her 13 year old self! Damn I actually liked the song it was silly song. I actually bought it on iTunes! I had no clue she went through that. That’s just sickening. She didn’t even mean to get that big. Man people are THE WORST.
How can people bully a 13 YEAR old child?
My favorite parody was always "Primeday" and I always thought it was inspiring that Rebecca black was only 13 and created the song without any prior experience. You could tell she was having fun in the video and she has natural talent!
Amazing Project. Rebecca is an icon and her story proves that she is an ACTUAL Phoenix. Spectacular job documenting her journey. She is a beautiful young woman inside and out and deserves all the success she has earned. You guys did a phenomenal job with this video. Hats off to every one involved in the production and execution.
Are we really going to tear Friday down as the worst song but give the intro/closing song a free pass?
I’m saying 💀😭😭😭
Your videos are always so good!
This is so sad. This just should teach everyone you can dislike something and not have to comment on it.
This is really well done. She's a sweetheart, poor thing. Well done deepdive. I'd love to see this girl do well. Katy Perry is also a sweetheart. LOVE Rebecca's new look!! Keep going, you'll get there
Agree! I’m so glad Katy Perry’s put her in the video!
You guys are nailing these videos and I love it! Love Rebecca and the music she's releasing now. She's worked her ass off to get to this point musically, let alone what happened with "Friday". I can never watch that video without Rebecca's words about her arms never moving floating in my mind. You can't unsee it!
How could any adult bully a child. I’m so sad this happened to her. You are so beautiful and strong. Remember this world is wicked. Focus on God sweetheart. God is sovereign. You are incredibly strong. Sending love to you Rebecca🥰
Yah like my parents and step parents but yah super 😫
This is so heartbreaking and so sad, I feel for Rebecca Black. I really didn't know that being an adult and attacking a 13 year old child was a thing. since them Rebecca has come leaps and bounds and she is so amazing as an artist.
Rebecca Black is iconic and turned into a solid pop artist. Friday was the music video equivalent of a performer cutting their teeth in community theatre or a school play. Everyone starts somewhere!
I’ve never liked this song, but I was an adult when it came out and I would never ever say that to a child. Actually I’ve never even left any kind of comment like that to anybody. People get brave behind their screens, & it’s freaking pathetic. She was a young girl who was just having fun. She didn’t even write the damn song or anything. It disgusts me how much hate she got. I hope she is at peace now, & I’m sending her lots of love & positive energy🖤
Patrice Wilson is a creep fr
Great video, very enlightening
Me and my husband have been in a Rebecca Blackhole for a few months now, and honestly it has brought us so much joy. The song, truly baffling, but not her fault. A literal adult human wrote those lyrics, so like blame him for the generic lyrics. My we like to pretend the character in the song is an alien trying to figure out what fun is. Anyways, halfway through this and I’m excited to see how she has grown up. She did not deserve all the heinous shit said about her. But also, I know all the lyrics to Friday and I couldn’t tell you a single song title of Justin Beibers nor a single song lyric. So great job, Rebecca Black! You’re doing great. Lol
