🏆Can the Toyota Tacoma overcome its challenges and maintain its dominance in the market? 🤔

The first two challenges are an underpowered engines and yet another terrible transmission. Pretty safe bet they're not going to overcome either of these.
There's nothing affordable about any pickup truck this day in age....
Well the Tacoma alone will sell about 300,000 trucks this year in only 3 countries. Clearly they are very affordable
So you say 😂
@@RP-oy5rt there's a difference between affordable and overpriced. How does a mid sized truck cost as much as a full sized truck? 🤔 the whole meaning of being affordable is not being expensive....
@@CNS21 the value of something is what people are willing to pay. If people are buying it in mass then that’s what it’s worth. Also to compare an off road premium is the same price as an sr5 tundra but you can’t compare what you get. Also if leased the taco is much cheaper then a tundra as the 3 year value of a taco is much higher then a tundra
By design. The elite have decided we don't need them and shouldn't have them. This will be all cars soon. Biden has stated he wants to take 76% of cars off the roads. That's too specific of a number for him to have just spouted off. The Davos crowd has said the same. Soon you will be in an auto pilot electric Uber.
That junk 4 banger with the hairdryer gets the same if not worse fuel mileage than the V6. All of this is a prime example of trying to fix something that is not broken and an overreacting government.
I'm getting the same MPG on my V6 as the estimated MPG on the new I4.
it's biggest problem is being 10-20k on average more than it should be... move along.
Is Ford, Chevy, GMC, Nissan really cheaper?
@@fenderboy68 Yep. Same segment is $5000 cheaper off the bat.
And they have V6.
Your surprised, that some owners reported, that when they put their trucks into neutral, they would move sometimes. And that they needed to put on the brakes. Who and the hell made this video??? Are you crazy???
They also said the tacoma was a plug-in hybrid. Brrrrrp, wrong.
Whoever created this video, did zero research 😂😂
"drowning in recalls" the first segment is downsizing the engine 🙄
Shipped it back to Japan so they can build a quality Tacoma.
You mean Mexico. Tacos don’t come from Japan anymore they went the way of Ford and GM.
Yup, made in Mehico
The TRD pro and the trail are made in Japan but others are Mexican but do you think factory workers in the US are all Americans 😂 who do you think assembles them? I prefer JDM quality but who cares who really assembles them that what warrantees are for
GM Colorado and Canyon made in the USA wentzville,MO
@@nazspeed1every Tacoma is made in Mexico. All trim levels.
When the maverick can carry more weight in the bed and haul just as much as a modern taco, yet costs $50k well over the $27k maverick, you know there’s something wrong with Toyota.
Wow, what vehicle doesn't roll if the transmission is set in neutral? I would advise you to apply the parking brake when you set your transmission in neutral. Common sense if you ask me!
Nope! Not going to EVER purchase a 4 cylinder truck! Imagine how they would sell with a V 8 option!
Remember: all turbos are direct-injected and dump the waste oil back into the intake.
Never buy the first 2 years of a newly designed model.
Agree. Bought my 2004 VW GTI when that generation was near the end of its production run. Twenty years later, the car is still my daily driver today. The newly redesigned 2006 VW GTI had arguably worse reliability and durability. I don't see the '06 models on the road anymore. The lesson for me is; let others be first adopters. I view owners of newly redesigned vehicles as paying to be an extension of the car manufacturer's R&D department. They're paying to find all of the problems the manufacturer will need to fix in future years of the same generation vehicle.
Exactly, wait until they work the bugs out first. Same goes for EV’s, which are being pushed before being vetted first.
the problem toyota faces is how to sell a turd at a diamond price.
Buncha lies lol. There aint no plug in hybrid
there will be for 2025
@@maxapollo1 why would you even want a plug in hybrid? then you are paying for electricity AND gas.
Plug in Hybrid comes in November...
@@billw8476because electricity is cheap ?
@@1eyedwilli3i still haven’t got my 2024 tacoma that i reserved 6 months ago. Even if i wanted to wait for that it would take 2 years before i even see it.
Never new Toyota to go backwards. what a shame.
Whatever! Anti Toyota, haters make this vid !!! Typical whiners 😭
As a Toyota fanboy and Tacoma owner I wouldn’t touch this truck for at least 3 years if ever
More like typical Toyota deniers.
@@tactlcal_bacon_bits4773please tell us, in your all-knowing wisdom, what trouble- free truck you recommend
Your mechanical knowledge is obviously lacking. If you believe putting a small four-cylinder motor with a turbo on it in a large truck is going to lead to anything other than trouble.
I own a '17 TRD Sport with a V6. I plan on keeping it till 300K miles.
My Tacoma was affected by the recall. Toyota already took care of the issue.
Our 4x4 2016 Explorer Sport has a 365 hp 3.5 twin turbo, paddle shifted 6 speed, has 175,000 miles on it, (we change oil every 3000 mi), still running strong! Ford got it figured out, 👍😎
Welding on the rear axle goes back to the same factor the other companies have, quality control inspections have been cut just to push products out and make money. Some vehicles I like that are not Toyota have let me down with this same problem.
Truck rolls after putting it in neutral? I understand there’s another bigger problem. If you want to hear music or talk radio, you won’t get any sound at ALL unless you turn on the radio!!!! And to make matters worse, if the truck transmission is in park you’ll find the truck won’t move.
Huh? The Tacoma is NOT a plug-in hybrid, and the hybrid variant isn't even a plug-in... that wouldn't make any sense
All vehicles are overcomplicated these days as they scramble to figure out how to meet the government mandated arbitrary milage standards.
I Think alot of the changes are good! I have to call out Toyota on what is a problem for me. You go to a Turbo Charged 4cyl That means more parts, More Heat and More stress. You can't have a Turbo and expect the same dependability and reliability. Your net gain is 1 to 2 MPG good grief that's not worth it!!! The other issue is when I buy a 40,000 dollar truck you could put better speakers than 7.00dollar speakers.
And how about the highest recall car manufacturer in the world Ford?
Toyota now leads in that area, congratulations
Videos like this are ridiculous. I absolutely love my 2024 Tacoma. The new 4 cylinder turbo is awesome. The multimedia system is great. They’ve gotten too expensive, but I had my last two Tacos for ten years each and see no reason why I won’t have my ‘24 for ten…….and do nothing but change the oil and put gas in it.
I have a recall coming on my 2023 trdsport. Not concerned one bit. 15000 miles & Looked it over. All tight. No issues. Ive heard ONLY very very few were having issues & once it got leaked out to media-it became drama. 3 gen Tacomas are reliable... 4 gen for the $$$ buy fullsize
If they changed the name, then this truck wouldn't have all this hate. I had a 2006 Taco. This truck is so much better in every way from the Power/Tranny/Tech/Ride/Handling/MPG. If you got the dough you would definitely be upgrading. Off course 1st year is always the Guinea Pig. I sold my Ford Maverick Hybrid for this and man I hate to go from 40MPG to 20MPG but this is the only one with a 6ft bed with the top 4x4 Trims from all manufacturers. My Maverick had like three recalls but none that affects the car from running. Lots of quirks. I have not found any quirks on my 24 Taco yet except I can't find the odometer setting where I can set my Trip A and Trip B and reset it.
the 2024 tacoma is a downgrade ,with and upgraded price.
@@billw8476Have you even driven one? Or checked one out in person? All I’ve seen online are a bunch of sheep that get in line behind the complainer videos. I’ve checked out a Canyon, Colorado, Frontier and Tacoma. The Tacoma was far and away better inside and out. The quality and comfort of the interior was leaps ahead of the others. The refinement of the engine was lightyears ahead as well. I was shocked at how trash the GM brothers felt, and the Nissan was like driving a toy car built in a Lego factory.
@@Vaiduoklis_Owl i HAVE driven one, a test drive with the dealer. i have owned 6 tacomas, 2 were brand new, and the 2024 model is lighter built, the interior looks like (and is) cheap plastic. i will hard pass on the turbo as well, altho everyone is doing it. longevity in the tacoma is ancient history, they joined the ranks of disposable vehicles. don't think so? watch the re-sale value of the 2024 in a couple of years, that will be the true test of value.
@@billw8476 I'll 2nd that. I bought a 2 year lease return on a '17 TRD Sport V6 with 20k on the clock for $28K back in Nov '19. I was offered $30K in cash a few months ago. Nope, I plan on keeping it till I hit 300K miles.
I am glad I got a 2021 TRD Taco Sport 4X4, there is 0 recalls on it as of yet from last I looked last week!~
I always have been, and still trying to be a big Toyota fan, owned all my driving life. But everything you said in video, and same with the Tundra. There goes Toyota's well known RELIABLE and DEPENDABILITY out the window. I have 2014 Toyota Tundra, and when I upgrade to a new one, it will be to a 2021 and under. I like to keep many Toyota's for at least 300,000 + miles with just normal maintenance. I have to see it to believe it to happen to the new Tundra that looks like a Tacoma on steroids lol. If the new Tundra gets to 300,000 miles, I'm sure it will come with a hefty maintenance bill along the way!
Rip natural aspirated engines!!!
Unfortunately, that’s the truth
I am not a Toyota hater. I’ve owned 2 tundras and 2 forerunners and I would never buy this. It’s way too underpowered and turbos are notoriously problematic.
cost reduction gone wrong
Beside all the problems. I will never buy the 4 cylinder mid size Tacoma especially for what they want for them. They have lost their ever loving minds. . I have a feeling others feel the same way. Toyota just shot themselves in the foot when they didn't offer a 6 cylinder version. They can just sit and rot on the dealers lot as far as I care.
The neutral issue is the same for the tundra which goes back to the power house. The motor with the electric motor combination.
LOL, I get the same MPG as the I4 Turbo in my V6 TRD Sport plus I HATE the new interior. Looks so cheap, square and sharp lines. When it comes time to replace, I'll be looking at Nisson.
The Tacoma, while a good entry level vehicle has been taking advantage of buyers by not updating the truck while -upscaling the price. Toyota was failing its customers and realized it was time for an update. While the new motor and transmission have caused concern the vehicle still needed the update. Toyota is feeling the same pains as many of the top truck manufacturers. More power, better fuel mileage, better towing capability, more comfort all come with their negatives. All Manufacturers are dealing with electronic transmission and engine issues related to it.
If Toyota wishes to stay in the front in their niche they must make the adjustments as a trade off. More money equals better performance as a whole.
This person is afraid of progress and technology the last gen is 12 years old...the only problem is price of all models
And no V-6 engine .
If you need to instal an after market brake controller it's a nightmare . No plug in port .
The joys of paying extra to get to work out all the bugs. I'm sure that after a year or two the platform will be quite competent, and the mid cycle refresh might be the perfect mid size.
Not sure why you're calling it economical....I get the same mileage in my 23 as my 24. 18 to 21 MPG average per tank.
What the heck was the point of a 4 cyl if the milage wasn't improved? If they had just upgraded the look and left the power plant intact, the result would have been much better. All those complainers who were bitching about the lag.....This is your fault!!! I will take lag over this new 4 cyl any day!
No plug in hybrid, as far as I know. Only parallel hybrid available as an option. Toyota is making a larger and heavier truck with a smaller engine. That's asking for trouble. Manufacturing in Mexico instead of Texas doesn't help. They also cost a lot more.
I won't be buying one--
Lame video, this video is all based on assumptions and not actual issues
Sure a lot of it might do this or that. I see a Ford or Frontier guy behind this video
Or jeep
I'm leaning towards a frontier after what happened with TFLs blueberry tacoma. I don't trust the new tacoma with turbo.
@@diz_guy47 do some research on Nissan plenty of issues
this guy seems very biased for whatever his reasons may be, but who in the hell would start their car/trk and put it in neutral ???
AND if needed to, why would you not set the emergency brake ! ? !
I think we've reached diminishing returns when it comes to being environmentally friendly. On one hand, on paper the car is more efficient at producing more power with less fuel. On the other, the myriad of problems that it causes makes it resource intensive and uneconomical to fix. Thus, the customer would probably scrap the car sooner than later. The way products are being produced in today's modern corporate world. I wouldn't be surprised if this was an intentional decision to force consumers to keep buying or spending their products.
TIME FOR THE FRONTIER TO GET THE RECOGNITION IT FINALLY DESERVES!!!
💯 love my frontier
They are talking about cutting the frontier because like the titan no one wants them. It’s like buying a brand new 2013 truck
@RP-oy5rt you obviously haven't seen the 2022+ models. The pro4x is the leading midsize truck right now. Most reliable power train, more hp than a 2023 trd pro and can tow more.
@@Minecraft4every200 leading what? Definitely not sales. Definitely not in value down the road. Like a said the 2024 frontier would be a great truck in 2014. It’s years behind the competitors in every other category
@RP-oy5rt you don't know what you're saying lol. The Frontier is leading the midsize truck. Doesn't matter if resale value drops. The market is over saturated with Toyota fan boys and company's just paying consumer reports for their spots. Frontiers power train and nismo in general are some of the best most reliable and toughest power trains on the marker. 350z's, GTR all examples of the same engines and power trains that are bulletrpoof
So this is just a make a mountain out of a ant hill thing to bash Toyota? Big deal on the weld issue as I promise no other mfg. would do a thing. I won't buy a new one but I do have a 23'
Never buy a new generation of any vehicle for at least year three. If the manufacturer was smart they would provide 5 year bumber to bumber warranty or 60,000 miles on the vehicle. Right now the bumper to bumper is 3 years or 36,000 miles. They could drop it down to the standard 3 year warranty after year 3 of the car and the kinks have been mostly worked out.
An ALL NEW Tacoma with the same old, outdated Gloomy Grey and Death Black interior colors that became popular in 1990.
Geez, that was during the last Millennium
will not buy a new tacoma
The Mexican manufacturing plant is not up to speed. Time to make the Taco in America again.
its not plug in hybrid
false consumer's issues ?🤪
or 🧐
tacomas haters ?😤
This is why you never buy a first year redesigned Anything The engine Is totally different everything is changed on the trucks Four wheel drive system, transmission. Wait a year and the bugs will be worked out just like the new tundras had issues for the first year Production.
It does not come as a PHEV
I disagree. I think it has a small problem, that being that little 4 cylinder engine with the turbo under the hood of that large truck.😂😂😂😂
Pass!
Love my 2008 tacoma
There are recalls. Research before claiming otherwise. Parts failures
Exactly. Right now Ford leads all vehicles in the last two years for recalls. All major manufacturers have recalls to varying degrees.
I can get two V 8 Titan for the Price of one V6 Thundra. Turbo more parts to break. 4 cylinder 😝
Lost my buiness I will buy older trucks I can afford & trucks I can work on
I had the choice of a 23 or 24 Tacoma TRD Off Road with the Premium pkg and a 6’ bed.
Naturally I chose the 23
So did I. Bought the premium 23 sport TRD package just to get my hands on the last of the battle tested 6 cyl automatic. Glad I did.
@@TheDirthound Long live the Naturally Aspirated 3.5L V6
I had 2020 2.7. I heard last year they were doing away with 3.5 in Tacoma. Last Aug 23 I got 2023 trdsport 4dr 4×4. Love it. Probably won't be doing the 2.4t ever

I love my '17 TRD Sport V6 ext cab 6' bed.
New stuff is trash. I have a 2010 tundra paid for with 256k . All original equipment. Runs and shifts better than the 2020 tacoma i had. That truck was junk. Nit comfortable or a joy ti drive at all. Ill keep my used tundras until i die. Superior vehicle
Anything above 6 speeds is an utter waste on a pickup. Makes them very unresponsive - kind of a FORD with a 10 speed automatic. Transmission always seems to be going - What do I do? What do I do? Is this gear right, no? How about this gear?
No, it’s not the transmission that is confused, it’s you obviously
Where is this page getting all this information? lol its all false
Toyota. Quality. Is. Lower. Then Bob 20. Year's. Ago
Tacoma's. Are. Expensive heavy. Gas. Hooks 😮🎉😂❤.
Biggest problem seems to be a weak front differential. I have been keeping my eyes on the hybrid until finding out that it will not have a modern battery lol. Really Toyota, nicads?
Lies, toyotas farts dont stink.
This go green B.S. is so irritating.
I really enjoy the recalls Toyota, Chrysler, General Motors, Ford are having ❤😂
There is NO Plug in Hybrid ! What are you Talking about ?
Hahaha. What a joke. Relax it's just a truck. Video sponsored by Nissan.......
