I buy Honda Ridgeline RTL-E better than Toyota
Dang
Happy Easter Scotty!✝🍛🐰😃
Tell them to make them hybrid but leave them V6. Same for the V8 tundra!😡
Scotty Toyota is building 4 cylinder tacomas and highlux's to this day. In mexico. That is all you can buy there. I drove a 4 cyl Nissan pickup it got 25 mpg. Amazing for truck
0:00 Tacoma
12:51 Tundra
23:36 4Runner
Lol these comments are CRUCIAL in Scotty’s vids 😂😂😂
Junk turbo 4cylinders
Electrolux crap😅
Thanks a lot
older toyotas will go up in value because of this
New sienna is boring
Not after they shut off the gas pumps. No more internal combustion engines can be built after 2034 by order of the world government -
I'd agree... I have a feeling my 5th gen 4Runner will the kind of vehicle people in 5 years, will be offering to buy while I fill up at a station
@@cbb9763rd gen best gen
Yep, bought the 2023 v6 4x4 base model for a discount in December because I knew this would be the case.
Just bought a 2024 4Runner Limited. They can keep their 4 banger turbo and 8sp tranny slated for next year. I'm good with my 4.0 V6 and 5 speed for a long, long time.
Every automaker needs a Scotty Kilmer on their design and development teams to prevent this nonsense.
No turbos hybrid cvt or ev
actually if he just worked for Toyota. That would be good.
Scott might just tell them not to do anything new , i.e., no R&D, only quality control 😁
And the EPA will sue them out existence or they stop selling suvs and trucks in the U.S. altogether. Scotty only tangentially referenced this which is a little disingenuous but beating on Toyota gets more likes than railing on who and why they went down this road…
Its like we are heading into 1981 again. Neutering cars for the epa
Took 20 yrs to re-learn last time
I don't think we're bouncing back like last time unless we have a serious shift in politics.
Except back then we went from V8s with 300 horsepower to 4 cylinders with 120 hps. But the new turbo 4s and 6s are making more horsepower and torque than the old V6s and V8s.
i will never understand putting a 4 cylinder in a truck. trucks are meant to tow stuff hows it gonna do that with no damn powah baby?
Except this time, it’s the globalist WEF pressuring car manufacturers into this mess.
interest rates were about 18% in 1981
Money controls everything, when Toyota sales fall, V8 & V6 will make a massive comeback!
Like the new Mercedes c63
Yes but the way the USA changes their laws, will they allow it
Went to my main Toyota service manager who is my friend, he showed me 5 different 2022-2023 Tundra engines awaiting warranty repair (oil pressure and turbo related failure), absolutely ridiculous considering they paid $60K-$80K for those. Best to hold on to your 2021 and older Tundras.
Not very happy about all of this ,
I got one been waiting a month for their 2023 Chevrolet truck transmission
That was me! Had so many issues they ended up buying my Tundra back from me
I have a V8 2006 Tundra and will never buy anything less than a V8 truck
Haha got a gem of a 2021 tundra trd/limited just a year ago. She is staying with me for many years. Every where I go people asking me about my truck GO FIGURE
People want a V6 or a V8 in a truck. Not this crap. I thought Toyota knew better.

It's not Toyota's fault. Blame your politicians who think electric is the answer.
Toyota will lose many customers if they don’t turn it around.
where will they go
I thought Toyota knew better.
They have already lost one customer, I purchased a new 2024 Frontier with a 3.8 v6 instead of a new stupid overpriced Tacoma that doesn’t even offer a v6. Toyota is starting to be very disappointing these days.
It was inevitable tbh, every company switching to 4 cylinder turbocharged engines which gives more hp and better fuel economy. The only 2 trucks left still holding out with a V6 are the Ridgeline and the Frontier if you want a new truck with the V6.
@@w.miller7282gee you only just figured that out LOL?
Because I the biggest Toyota hater on the internet tried to tell everyone that Toyota continues to disappoint. No one listened
The government is doing this to get rid of V8 and now V 6 engines. It's all about the transition to EVs and hybrids, it totally ticks me off but lay blame where it needs to go.
I totally agree with you getting rid of the big trucks so we can all have EV'S that we can't afford and too many problems
@@holyyoly3712plus getting on fired
@@holyyoly3712 EV Trucks will be a no go in America for the next ten years or more, so many issues that are not being addressed in America, look at the UK and all its issues and that country is only the size of some states.
Mostly because manufacturers are required each year to increase thier overall MPG rating on fleet wide sales. So even 2 MPG on trucks gains is huge overall when all vehicle sales combined
They probably could have gotten 18 mpg with the 5.7 liter V8 by putting the 10 speed transmission in it and adding the hybrid system for city type driving, and some engine improvements.
Yeah but that doesn't fit their narrative
When Customers want a V8, they know that great gasoline mileage will be compromised, they know that walking through the doors of showroom floor. Give 'em an 8 .... c'mon Toyota.....
Truthfully: every real truck buyer in America walks in the door knowing mpg w/be bad and is okay w/it.
@@NVRAMboiwell there’s a lot of fools with trucks that get 16 MPG and complain about gas prices you got to pay to play
@@raw7504 You're right. They're posers and/or newbies.
Toyota's sales collapsed because of the 8 cylinder. The thirst is too off-putting to most people, even people who buy new trucks. So Toyota gives customers what they want by getting rid of the V8.
@@unconventionalideas5683if they really want to give people what they want they can give the option v6 or v8 and also automatic or standard Ford Chevrolet and GMC they used to give you that option
If Toyota is going to 4 cylinder turbo engines because of our government, how is Nissan still allowed to manufacture and sell V6 Frontiers?
They combine the gas mileage of all the engines they manufacture and mandate that it average out to a certain amount of miles. It’s around 50, unsure of the exact number.
They take away the dip sticks
The nissan patrol still is V8 in Australia. Also the old school 70 series (that can be purchased brand new) Landcruiser is also V8
When I saw the new Land Cruiser was a 4cyl hybrid I was like "what are these guys smoking!?" They have clearly lost the plot at Toyota.
They have to follow the ongoing federal regulations.
The iforce max is no joke, it's out in the toyota crown. You should drive one. I laugh at ole scotty here complaining about the power.
@@Xencer Seems like regular road driving the new set up makes sense but for tow/off-road users it doesn't
@@Rinaldi186490 none of the tacomas are ideal for towing, buy a tundra
Exactly! Glad I'm still driving my 2000 LX 470 with the V-8!
It's not a mistake. It's government.
I hope Toyota is watching and taking notice that we’re not happy. I will just keep my 1996 2.7L Taco for now. 😅
It’s the government regulations, not Toyota. I have 340,000 miles on my 09 Tacoma and still running SMOOTH, normal maintenance performed at their intervals
Scotty, when it comes to a 4 cyl Tacoma, bring back the smaller 80's and 90's size version with the 22R.
That's what I want again, 84-88 were the best trucks they made.
Agreed, i had an '81 Toyota pick up with the 22R, great running, great shifting truck, i had to junk it in '92 ( 11 years old ) with about 165k, the truck rusted in half, that Toyota steel was even worse back then
They sell those 4 bangers tacomas all over the world. Mexico you can only buy 4 cyl. No one will buy a 4 cyl in USA. Why first your friends will laugh second you can't resell it because next guy knows his friends will laugh at him too

I’m also worried about what they will do with the next generation 4Runner. 😢
It's going in the same, bad direction.
I just read the 2025 4Runner will have have a turbo 4 and optional engine will be a 6 turbo. Something about those turbos😮
@@anniemilehigh3607 this is disappointing but at the very least a 6cl is available. It’s probably a tiny 6.

Scotty told me to keep my 2000 Toyota Sienna van.
It’s a great time to be a mechanic, maintaining older vehicles and fixing new ones 😂
Around where I live the garages are empty.
Never seen that before.
Not a good sign at all.
As someone who owns a 2016 Tacoma V6 and tows with it quite often, I absolutely love the horsepower torque of the V6. Toyota is making a big mistake switching to only 4 cylinder turbos with the Tacos. The 4 cylinders are nowhere near as good at towing and won’t last half as long as the naturally aspirated V6.
Really proud to have my Frontier 4.0L V6 these days. Especially since it's a manual 4WD.
i thought it was pretty underpowered when i drove the 2021 sr5 3.5L in my mothers truck a few hundred miles, i was disappointed. the torque number is alright, the hp is kinda a let down for a 2021 3.5L V6. fuel mileage sucks compared to the heavier and more powerful f150’s. i thought it was really the opposite of quality when driving it, definitely not worth what she paid for it new. at least they are probably super reliable.
@@adamowens5507 I actually kind of agree. While overall horsepower and low end torque can leave more to be desired, once you get into the 2,000+ RPM range it takes off. Plus horsepower isn’t really what I’m looking for in a truck. If I wanted to buy a car with loads of horsepower I would have gotten a sports car. Plus for the towing I personally do it’s more than enough.
And yes, fuel efficiency sucks there’s no getting around that. 😅
They ruined the Tundra and now the Tacoma! The 4Runner is next! Very sad

Scotty needs to get with Toyota or Honda and have them build a vehicle to his specs. The Kilmore Classic would sell.
Get a 2000cc 4 cylinder without a turbo or direct fuel injection. Put a manual transmission on it. Should be simple reliable vehicle. VVT "variable valve timing", active cylinder deactivation, are products that provide a small improvement in fuel economy, but are complex to run and expensive to repair.

I didn't. But had to sit through two or three 'really good speeches'.
I told them I was a mechanic upfront.
But the extra money at the end is their gravy.

Hey Scotty, you should do a video about the pedal commander. I’m thinking about one for a 2013 Tacoma and would love your opinion.

Message to Toyota: Don't pee on me and tell me it's raining!
What they are hoping you'll say to them is.. "It won't piss me off if you piss on me."

Thanks for the info 😊
I disagree, I have a 2013 tacoma and it drives great, never had a problem with it till this day, it might be small but super reliable and dependable. It keeps it value excellent. I can sell it now for around 19-21k and he had 160k mileage on it. And don’t forget 2013-2015 Tacoma are ranked best truck and rarely have any problem.
Scotty speaking facts, I’ve been thinking about the new 4 runner and I’m 100% with you on the new 4 banger engine, don’t mess with something if it isn’t broke
Since Toyota did away with the V8 on their tundra, I’m no longer considering buying one.
I bought a 2020 Platinum 4x4 with 20,780 miles,February 2022. Paid 40k. I hope it is my last truck.
They ruined the Sequoia they ruined the Tundra, they got rid of the good Landcruiser and now they're ruining the Tacoma they're a bunch of morons!!!!! Give us a 1 ton diesel Tundra, give us the Hilux diesel give us the diesel Prado !

American imperialism has destroyed the world
I just picked up a '21 TRD sport. Coating the bottom with Fluid Film hoping it's going to last forever.
I know it’s rare but my last highway road trip my LX570 with the 5.7 V8 got 18.6 mpg.
Around town it’s 15 so I can understand the hybrid “justification”
I was in the market earlier this year for just this truck. However, a long-bed 2023 Tacoma with crew cab 4x4 that are not $5000 over black book are as rare as a blue unicorn. So I changed course and considered the Jeep Gladiator, Nissan Frontier, and Honda Ridgeline. I ruled out the Ridgeline - unibody. I ruled out the Gladiator - reliability worries. That left me with the Frontier and I'm super happy with it. No stupid cylinder deactivation or turbos or hybrid crap in it.
Hey Scotty. Got a question for you. Is it safe turning off AC when turning off the vehicle? Got a 24’ tundra. Or does it even matter or make a difference?
I wanted to get a Highlander but they ditched the V6 and I sure don’t want a turbo. Looks like I’ll be getting a used one that’s a couple of model years old.
Toyota made ppl go to pathfinder telluride palisade and pilot
I don’t know, they are just too expensive now too- I have a 2017 4x4 Taco I bought for 31k brand new in 2017. I’m at 119k and it’s a fantastic truck- I just keep up on maintenance 5k oil changes, don’t beat it- it’s Also a lifted truck with actual good Icon Suspension and that hits gas mileage a little but it’s a very utilitarian go anywhere, tow a bunch of stuff truck
Happy Easter Sir have a great day ❤
our next door neighbor had a regular gas powered 1994 Ford F 150 for more than 25 years granted he's a carpenter by profession so needed the towing capacity for work and it had something like 400,000 miles on the odometer when he replaced it. Toyota are shooting themselves in the foot by taking the V8 and V6 engines out of their vehicles for 4 cylinder full hybrid options even though some of those vehicles have had a V6 option since the late 1980s I.E. Camry for ex first received a V6 for the V20 2nd Gen in 1988 Camry got the earliest version of its current V6 for the 2010 model year
Scotty love your work 👍
I agree maybe the turbo will not be as reliable as N/A motor BUT the new Tacoma 4cyl turbo has more torque and power in lower rpm most of the torque comes on at 1700 rpm to me thats better than v6 which starts making power around 3k rpm , I have a 2021 Tacoma TRD off road 4x4 and plan on keeping it till it hits 400k miles
Yep. Scotty got this reversed. Also the 4 cylinder was designed for a turbo. I don’t think the reliability will suffer as long as it’s maintained.
I got over 30 mpg on my 22 tacoma twice. Normally over 22 to 25. The v6 is great.
I've thought for years they should have come out with a trim package on the Tacoma with a 4.6 stuffed under the hood. They should have never dropped the V8s and V6s on the respective platforms!
Same with 4runner. Could definitely get more horsepower and torque out of the 4.0 I would think though. Seems odd
I saw other car channels and guys were on Toyota lots and the Tundras were piling up. Truck guys don't want them . They are starting to sit. Don't be surprised if Toyota starts offering a V8 Tundra as an option in a couple of years.
Money talks 💴
@scottyklimer 7:36 Tacomas do not get 30 miles per gallon around town or on the highway. You might get 19-21 if your lucky. 30 is a pipe dream.
This is true, doesn't matter if it's a 4 cylinder or v6.
I agree, When I use my truck, power is more important to me than fuel economy. I say, bring back the V8 and V6. I bought the 4 in a new Camry, but I would have preffered the V6. I will not buy a truck with only 4 cylinders.
My Tacoma is a 2020. Great truck V-6. TRD. 23 MPG.
Scott you are so right. Some people cannot still figure out why they need Cat Tractors to plow highways instead of sit-down snow blowers for driveways. LOL !! I think when that happens they should put those who make those decisions when they cut back. They should be given one of those sit-down snow blowers on the highway snow plowing. LOL !! Nah, maybe not you already have some of those great examples like the one riding the motorcyle. LOL !!
I have a 2007 camry 2.4 with stripped head bolts. Is there any reason you couldn't tap out to a m12x1.75, and use grade 12 bolts Allen head in place of the 11 x1.5?
Won't work. Not enough of a step up in size to cut fresh threads
If you got that tire warranty and you get 1 tire messed up. Put a nail/screw in the other 3, then they'd have to replace all 4
What do you think of the sporty Camry?
Finally ppl are saying what ive been saying for months, you can see comments of mine on here from a year ago warning ppl not to buy toyotas because theyre all weak 4cyls now, you gotta count 1 mississippi before you start movinh after hitting the pedal.
The seat quality is bad so if you do buy one, do not buy less than an xle PREMIUM, the regular xle awd rav4 destroyed my back. The lumbar support is a rectangle that juts out halfway up your back, and when you put it away it leaves an indent in the seat that your spine will sink into while your driving, it took months for the pain to stop.
I hated it so much i traded it less than a week after i paid it off, and put the monry towards another car. I was done, no more payments or stress about owning my vehicle but i just couldny take it, it was slow, they put no tension on the gas tensioner so you speed up extremely slow, plus with only 4 cyls.
Theyre also very barebones. Other manufacturers offer much more features for less money.
These turbo 4cyls will not last like their old v6 and v8s did.
Do not buy a toyota or youll regret it.
Yeah i just got a lexus rx350 with the 3.5 v6. It feels just enough for the car. And now since 2023 they aee offering 2.5 with turbo on same car. This car is heavy and the v6 makes a huge difference.
Toyota in Manila. So just took a few rides in some Toyota Vios cars that are the taxis here. One overheated. Driver pulls over pours in a gallon or so of water and then a gallon or so of coolant while the engine is running. 5 minutes and we are back to normal. I ask him how many miles on it. 1.3 million kilometers. The thing is a wreck, rear shocks really shock you when they go over bumps, but the thing keeps running. Original engine. They replace bushings and shocks but the manual is original and engine keeps on ticking. If you have ever been to Manila then stop and go traffic is an understatement. Manila makes LA look like open road driving. I don't know what a Toyota Vios is, maybe a corolla equivalent. The next two Vios cabs I was in both had over 850,000km. Also no problem with engine and transmission. All, well 99%, taxis in Hong Kong are Toyota Comforts, and all taxis in Macau are Toyota Camry. Again, these are NOT highway miles. I am impressed.
I first heard that the Tacoma was going to be redesigned in 24, so I thought I’d wait for the 26 or 27 year model so the bugs could be worked out of the new generation. Then I heard that Toyota was dropping the proven 3.5L Naturally Aspirated (NA) V6, so I started looking for a 23 TRD Off Road, double cab, 6’ bed with the Premium and Technology pkgs in either White, Barcelona Red or Lunar Rock.
I bought one of the last 23 TRDs in White and had everything I wanted and needed.
I’m super happy with my decision.
I LOVE my Toyota Tacoma.
I couldn’t agree more. Now what do we buy?
Used Tundras, Tacomas or New/Used Nissan Frontiers or Titans.

Ive never owned a Tacoma/Runner because the prices even used have been insane. Ive had good luck with 90's gm 5.7 trucks. An old suburban & a 3rd gen clean frame tacoma/4runner is the dream!
WOW amazing TY so much ,,Keep up the great work
I get your point Scotty. But modern turbo engines have peak torque pretty low and the curves are pretty flat. Reliability wise? Time will tell
i have a 3rd gen taco and no they dont get 30 mpg. I barely get 27 mpg driving downhill, 19 mpg on the highway if im lucky.
Pretty much no pickup truck gets 30 mpg. Not now and not for the last 40+ years.
I always was did felt like there was something off with toyata but then again I 'm a Nissan fellow so I might have a bias against them

There has to be a perfect weight to size ratio to make a hybrid/gas system work at maximum power and efficiency. Maybe extend the engine compartment by a foot or 2 and throw a huge V8 or small V10 in there. Well go back to the days of American muscle style boats on wheels.
I owned a 2014 Tacoma 4 cylinder for a couple months, and hated it😂 It wouldve been nice for a town-only truck, but driving that thing on I-80 was horrible. Basically no uphill climb power
I bought a Nissan Frontier 2017. Got it in 2018 used it had 17,000 miles on it now it has a big 29,000 it's been a great truck. V6 in it it's a 4×4 20mpg on the highway. Not Bad
I've got one myself. 5 years now. Great little V6 truck (6 spd, 4WD)
The sensible thing to do Toyota is to make the V6 and 4 wheel drive optional! So much Nonsense!
NEVER buy any warranty from a dealer or anyone else it is not needed and are all scams the factory warranty is all you need and that comes with the purchase.
In 2022 ,my wife bought q 14 escape titanium, its nice, its been pretty good to her,but its needed a few small things, and it came with a 3 yr /36k mile warranty.. its from JD BYRIDER... we both knew she was getting ripped off, but she didnt have good credit, so she went there...they honored the warranty for a right rear wheel bearing, and front right lower control arm because the balljoint was bad...after that, she needed a couple things, and they blew her off for 6 months, and sold the dealership..meanwhille ,shes paying fr the warranty in her payments...and theres noone to hold accountable now... ive worked on cars for 2 years, i can do the work on it, but it was supposed to have a warranty..
WHen I bought my 2023 Tacoma Off road I got the 7 year bumper to bumper warranty instead of just staying with the three year factory warranty . I paid 1495.00 for it and I'm actually very happy knowing that I have 7 years of no worries or cost . Even though i don't think I will need it ...but ....
I agree 6 or 8 .
How does he get 30 mpg on the highway? I only get 22 mpg with my 2020 Highlander 6 cyl 8 speed.
Scotty Kilmer what do you think about the new 2025 Nissan Frontier keeping their 3.8 V6 engine but adding a turbo?
My 2000 Toyota tundra v8 still the beast.
Plus, I don’t want a turbo, period. And I want a manual in the base model.
Good for you.
So buy an old truck lol sounds like you just don't like change
Im just into the numbers of torque and hp for the unreleased hybrid
How about making the Tacoma smaller again instead of super-sizing the once great and smaller pickup?
That new Hilux or whatever they are going to call it might be a good short hauler.
I would wait & check it out when it gets to our fair continent.
They hopefully are at least a Hybrid and not an EV. Dear Lord!
