I'm a stylist. She did an excellent job. You were so negative through the video yet in the end you loved it. Thank your stylist. She spent more then 4 hours on your hair
Wow, it's really rare to find someone who would agree to do a spiral perm on hair this long, it literally takes forever and it requires a lot of patience. The reason she asked not to blow-dry and she put the gel, is to avoid perming frizz and Messing up the curl pattern. After the 3 days you can fluff it up to your heart's content!
you're so right! When I got my hair re-permed she fluffed it out more and my curl pattern has been really frizzy this time around. Learned the hard way :/
@@LexiLadonna Yikes!... That's a very good tip to know as I'm getting my first perm tomorrow.. I'll be sure to ask them to seal it with gel and leave it alone! Thank you for sharing!
Lexi you look greeeeaaat! 🤩 I've been thinking about getting a perm by myself, but I don't think my hair is strong and healthy like yours. But anyway, it looks amazing!!!
Thank you!!! If your hair is weak because it’s processed you could grow out! If it’s just generally thin, I think you should talk to a stylist. If 80 year old women can get their hair permed, you could too!
Looks amazing!!!! Spiral perms can be a torturous process! And you are right the rods feel like a 20lb!!! One thing I noticed was the application was all over! My clients usually fall asleep when I do perms since I’m fast but gentle with applying. For you I woulda recommended using flexi rods or an oval wrap (uploading the video on my modern perm video coming up. And I’m even more shocked she used a spray bottle for the neutralizer’ the chemical is peroxide and I would not recommend. My perm consultations are like color ones they take 1hr and we go over options, types of perm solutions etc. the sad thing is many stylists don’t do this!
@JMR great question! So asian hair typically tends to take a perm quickly! This is why I always do a test curl starting after 5min. Long spiral curls are achieved by using larger rollers the orange or green ones. Length of hair also matters too
@@VincentBalducci What would you recommend flexi rods or oval wrap my hair is longer and thicker than the lady in the video but I’m 55 so I have some gray strand. I have no chemical dyes and I let my hair dry naturally(no heat) Thank you for any suggestions!!!
Looks incredible - she's done a fantastic job of it! Your hair still looks to be in fabulous condition - which goes to show that perms are not particularly damaging if done properly by someone who knows what they are doing! I love the gelled look by the way!
@@LexiLadonna Have you thought about getting some light blonde cap highlights put in? This would work wonders to enhance curl definition due to contrasting light and dark sections. Your hair is in such good condition that it would easily take it. What are your thoughts on this?
Don't brush a perm, finger comb with head down especially long hair, using a leave in conditioner on hands. Get rid of any hair that gets onto hands with paper kitchen roll that you have put a number of sheets in a pile to grab as you go. If washed at night, can do this then separately into two strands & twist these together use band at bottom & put hair into a sleeve of the shirt material tucking it in at the back to secure. Next morning take out & repeat hand coming with leave in conditioner, can use curly mouse & even finish off with a spray on hands & work through with a shiny oil, don't need much of this. Arrange as you want for the day looks very natural & before bed just wet towel dry & hand com with conditioner twist etc & will last a week before you need to actually wash again.
Lexi dang your hair looks so hard core rocking, you were so made for curly hair, it just fits you and your vibe. First off your hair color is gorgeous, and the make up you had throughout the video was awesome. You are just amazing. The perm turned out awesome, you were smart to go to someone with experience, she made the curls look so natural. First off there is nothing going to an older stylist, they have the skill set down, and for sure know what they are doing. Plus I think there cuts are more precise and detailed, with you getting a perm I bet the perm she gave you will last and look great for a long long time. Like you I went recently back to a haircut I had when I was young, it is funny I so hated getting the cut when I was young but now I love it, I to searched for stylists and salons and like you said I need old school so I found a stylist who had been doing hair for more than 50 years, and her salon to was more old school but my gosh I loved the cut so as long as she does hair I am going back. No joke you should honestly have Theresa be your stylist for cuts, colors and perms. You own the look and enjoy Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! And yeah, the years of experience really show when you go with an older stylist! They’ve seen styles and trends come and go so I think they put more thought into what’s flattering for the client instead of what the new hot style is. I’m glad you found one! They usually charge reasonably, too. I used to go to a trendy place and I had to stop because they raised their rates to $125 an hour! 😱 I’m glad you found someone to give you the old school cut you wanted!
I know this is from a couple years ago; I have an appointment in 2 days for a spiral perm… for some reason I thought they did long foam rods. The rods they used on you are the ones I remember my step mom getting in the 80’s and I remember the stinky smell. But I was told they’ve come out with better products for your hair that don’t stink. I am nervous now as my hair is longer thicker than yours and I have a bad neck that has a hairline fracture from years ago …have had neck and shoulder problems since. I’m glad you shared this video as I may back out because my hair gets heavy when it’s wet and takes forever to dry.
I love your perm!!! I stopped dying my hair when I was 17 to get a perm.. I’m 22 now, and love how yours came out!! I hope you respond to me :(( where did you get it done? I’m in California
I used to have these perms in the 80s 90s and loved my hair like that. I also had very long hair and remember trying to hold my head up lol. But loved the way it came out.
It's fabulous!! It's really hard to get a hairdresser here in Ireland to do a perm, they don't even teach it in hairdressing college/courses anymore, you have to ask.... so if you want a perm here, you have to go to the older women/men in the business...
@@LexiLadonna Does it look ok if you let it air dry? My hair is ugly if I don’t dry and style it. I’m looking for a wash and go look. Can you just curl cream and go?

It cost $180 plus tip which was a really really good price considering the time and materials. It think that's because it wasn't a fancy salon. A fancy place would have been WAAAY more. The hair is still in good condition! But I'm getting another cut soon to make it bouncier! My hair is so long it weighs the curls down
This just proves that we women are nuts when it comes to our hair. Your before is my dream hair but my real hair is more like your after. I had done obnoxious keratin treatment for about 5 years before recently going naturally curly during COVID. I live in south Florida so straightening is impossible. As your husband said I feel like weird Al Yankovich. Some people love it, most stay mum. 😂. Meanwhile my Mother who was born with hair similar to yours has spent a lifetime perming her hair. She told my sister she doesn’t understand why I got keratin treatments. We are never satisfied but I have definitely given up on straightening because when I go curly my hair has great natural shine but straightening it dulls the shine. We are all officially bonkers.
Sooooo true. We all want what we can’t have! My mom has curly hair and used to blow dry it much straighter. It’s a good reminder whenever we think we don’t look good, there might be people who’d love to have what we don’t like lol
Every 3-5 months, depending on how fast your hair grows. The perm does loosen up a little bit and the curls relax over time, but the bigger issue is that your hair growing out is straight so it starts to look weird if you go too long
You should asked your perm stylist to cut your hair in shoulder length and cut a bang so your long permed hair do not end up right in front of your eyes all the time. My advice to you next time you do a perm to do a shorter medium length curly perm like a Bob hairstyle it is most common and this Bob hairstyle is always in fashion!
