I was nearly put off by the sound quality, but the demonstration in this video was excellent
Thanks Bill!
First rate instructional video. To the point and well lit and produced. Thank you.
Finally!!! This is the first video I've been able to find about this issue which doesn't require a table saw. Thank you.
Great video, Bill. Thanks for sharing 😊
Thank you for sharing this, it’s a great video
Very neatly done!
This is a good one. Thanks Bill
This saved me so much frustration! Thank you!
Great video, thank you 😊
Thank you. Helpful video.
Great work as always.
Great video, nice one Bill! Just what I was looking for. I'm planning to cut some Ikea PAX wardrobe doors in order to extend a wardrobe to the ceiling. This technique will work for sure!!
Awesome idea and job
Thank-you! Really appreciate this view inside the door. I just bought a house and most of the doors do not shut properly. Everything I've read says to sand the door jam, but the doors are all crap, and when I have the money / time I'll probably replace them, but in the meantime, I am going to sand the doors down so they stop hitting the jams. I was worried about how much I could actually sand, but seeing this - I can see I have plenty of room for what I need. CHEERS!
Best skill for videos sir 👍👍👍♥️
Great information Bill, I have wondered how you would shorten a door and now I know. 👍
Thank you for your time and effort to show this video, most appreciated. Stay well stay safe 😂
Great. Thankyou
Nice work mate
Much appreciated!
Good info thanks. I’m using cut down doors as shelves. This will help me fill the ends for strength.
Thank you
Well. If I’d seen this 9 years ago I would have altered my bathroom door so I could have had a mat in front of the shower. Selling up soon though so I’ll leave that for the next owners and remember this for if I need it at my next house 😊
Thanks!
Sweet thanks!
Thanks 😊
Nice !
That's a great tip! Thank you for sharing but I hope I never have to shorten a door 😉
Brilliant! Also, a simple brad nail through each side would secure that bottom insert if you don't want to use glue. Great video!
Hey Bill, thanks for sharing this video. Can the same method be used to cut the door vertically (make it thinner rather than shorter)?
We have some roller doors in our wardrobes that I want to convert into regular hinged doors, but they overlap each, so I'd need thinner doors.
Thanks in advance for any tips! 🙏
Yeah Billy
Could you please see if you are able to make a video on how to repair a chipped Tile. I have one with a small chip. I cannot replace it.
👍👍👍👍👍
FIRED 😂😂
Never knew this
What is the trick/tip to get dead straight cut using circular saw like how you did it
Can you do this with the length too? I need to 70mm off the length??? Great video by the way mate
Thanks for the video Bill, very well demonstrated. I am looking to remove about 5mm off the bottom to clear new carpet installation. Do think planing or circular saw is better? Any issues with taking off this amount in terms of door frame stability? It’s just an indoor bedroom door. Thanks in advance!
If you have a steady hand use a circular saw, if not use a planer. General full height of a door is 2040mm. Measure the door first to make sure you have enough timber to remove. 👍
can you do that to make the door narrower also? My door is 24 and 1/16 inches and the opening is 24 inches.. How much do I need to remove? The door knob hole is already drilled but the hinges are not chiseled out yet.
I'll much rather buy a piece of that whats the exact thicknes size 1-1/8 or 1-1/4"
cheers mate, amazing what you can find on t'internet and it sounds like it's from Ozz (don't kill me if you're a Kiwi lol!). I've gotta cut 4" off a door and this'll work a treat👍
Can this be done for width? My door is 29x79
What do you do about the original lock position now that the standard ergonomic height for the door handle has been reduced? It's my understanding that hollow doors have a block of wood inserted in that area to allow installation of a locking mechanism. I'm assuming this will no longer match the position of the strike plate and keep of the door frame.
The lock position dosnt change. The door has simply been shortened at the base to allow for new carpet or other flooring 👍
I’m not sure if you’ve already shown this, but can you show how to fill in the old lock hole and reposition it? This would be a useful trick in those circumstances where it is necessary to fix an old Lock That might be a bit flogged out.
I’m about to cut one vertically and transform into two little doors. Currently a full size door opens into a tiny bathroom and it’s ridiculous.
I hope that was the top side of the doors... Otherwise, if it was the bottom side, then the knob goes further down... :D
I think you cut the top of the door ...Bill ..not the bottom 😃
Lol it’s exactly the same, this was one of the old doors. Good attention to detail 👍👍👍
Bill you are the man. Will you marry me?🤗
Fair enough Bill, but just buy a door that is the correct size with small trim work. These hollow doors are cheap mate
Doors a made at a standard height of 2040mm. Sometimes they need to be shortened to allow for carpet , raised floors ect..
My house is so old.. the measurements of the door frames are all non standard sizes....its the worst finding the right door size at bunnings..
And here I am paying $60 for a piece of cardboard and cutting it down to size because of kids knocking holes in doors…
Would have been a whole lot easier just to rip a new piece from some stock
Its Aug-2023. Today I bought at Home Depot in Fishkill, NY a cheap hollow core door. I did exactly as you did in this video. The door construction was almost identical to this, same cardboard honeycombs, but not wood on the bottom strip, something made of papery fibers, but wood-like. This was so easy its ridiculous. Need to mirror an existing 28" x 77" door and this saved a lot of money from not having to buy a solid core door. Thanks Bill!
You’re welcome 👍
