I put 21 hollow core doors in my personal house, 18 years ago. I just have my family using them. They have stayed straight and spacing is still very good on the double doors. (No hinge sag.) I am completely happy with them. This year I hanged 110 hollow core doors myself, in townhomes. They are not nearly as good as the ones in my house. I was disappointed. So maybe there is a company that makes the best one. Sorry I can't tell you which one.
I bought 3 solid unfinished poplar doors from baird bros for my home last year and couldn’t be happier with them. I think they are worth the price and a good value. They look wonderful simply finished with BM Advanced trim paint. Baird has excellent lumber too!! Definitely give them a try if you are in their delivery area.
Thank You so much for making this video. Very interesting. I have my own woodworking business and once in a while a customer doesn’t like my price and tell me they can get it for half the price at IKEA. Well you show a perfect example why.
can you fill in weight into the hollow door for sound proofing purpose, like spray foam or even worse fill in various compound of particles and glue so the door became solid
On a hollow door, what's it look like around the door knob - is that just filler around that area? (still trying to figure out if my doors are hollow....)
They flex a ton in the center. You can literally poke a hole in them by accident, so be careful. You can also tell by the weight of them when they swing open or closed. You'd know if they were solid, they're heavy feeling.
I've been looking at measurements of solid core and hollow core door STC ratings. It's not as big of a difference as one might expect. Solid wood is a bit better. To have a door be less of a sonic weak link inside the wall, you need some materials that are designed to block sound, or at least absorb it. Could solid wood or MDF be layered on both sides of cork floor underlayment and/or mass-loaded vinyl, with green glue in-between all layers?
My work is to cut a door to customer specific size and I hate working on the hollow door because sometime customer need ridiculous small size that even the standard 30 inch door cannot cut to the customer specific size. Also the veener door sometime not a real solid wood inside just a saw dust
that's MDF. They are therefore not "Solid wood doors." They're "Solid core doors." It is weird, but I really believe that if he had cut more, we'd see more of MDF. Solid wood would dye out in the middle also.
QUESTION is does the cost of a hardwood door offset the value of your home>? And make it worth more? It should but does it infarct help the houses value?
I’ve got a solid fire rated door that needs to be ripped down from 30-28. Is this possible? It has solid wood for the hinges but after cutting through that it’ll be filled with glued saw dust. Can I cut it down then bondo the hinge side and mortise again?
Umm, looks like there is also veneer on the stiles of your poplar door. Yes, they're solid, but they'd be just as difficult to repair. I see the Oak veneer door has about the same veneer as your poplar door.
Hi Tony. Please reach out to our Director of Sales at Derek.donatelli@bairdbrothers.com for more information on our solid doors and the repair process.
Solid core doors can vary depending on the manufacture but typically have a wood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) frame filled with particleboard or wood fiber.
@weekendwarrior3420 I was wondering where you can drill for a dead bolt. Checking other videos I could see there is quite a bit of range around where the doorknob is and my project went off without a hitch.
I have no doubt your solid core doors are very good, but they also probably cost 5 to 10 times as much, depending on the dimensions and the species of wood.
This is suspiciously good content
Suspiciously solid content and not hallow content.

What makes it suspicious?
I agree tmi
I’m just here looking for doors. And that is exactly what I got god bless
Thank you for explaining the differences

Unique video in youtube, thanks.
Good work
Are the joints more likely to crack with a solid popular door?
How do you cork a hallow core door?
Can you use spray foam inside?
" Great Job "
Awesome 👏 👏👏
1:55 This is when I ordered all new solid wood doors for my home.
Yeah, well you're one of the richest men in the world, so I guess you can afford it. In the meantime, why is my Model S built like a POS?

Knock on it if its sound open its is, if its a thud then it isn't if it has seams its a veneer or hard wood.

In a poplar door shaker single panel is the panel also solid wood ??? Or mdf

Building a house and picking doors leads to choose either the price or durability. Thanks we'd go for solid doors.

Not saying it would be impossible, but Baird’s shop does not have this type of door construction available

Does anyone know where I can get a faux panel sheet similar to the one on the hollow core door (first door in the video)?
Good info, but Poplar solid hardwood? What is the density of Poplar is US? We speak in Europe of hardwood when density is 750kg/m3 or more
What is the regular sizes interior door
Everyone wants a solid core door until you give them the quote.
How well does solid wood does with sound vs solid core?
Also interested about that
Both doors are very similar in dampening sound
ua-cam.com/channels/etKTntSyrQs0g2yP4QHz5g.html
Does the solid core transition to MDF some point?
For some reason you can’t click on the link to your website from a iPhone.
Can I buy a hollow core door non bonded so I can fill it with my own fill?
No but you can drill a hole at the top and pour in expandable foam and each side.
Not without defacing the door, jeopardizing appearance and voiding the manufactures warranty
My work is to cut a door to customer specific size and I hate working on the hollow door because sometime customer need ridiculous small size that even the standard 30 inch door cannot cut to the customer specific size.

exactly, solid wood and solid core is not the same.
some websites indicate that if you cut the solid core door, the stuff will come out. How come in this video, nothing come out.
how can i buy model door
Is it just me, of does the solid wood door with vaneer.... look like it has somthing other than solid wood on the left side when you look at the cut?

not really because most home biyers are too ingnorsnt to know the difference.
Just like hardwood floors, national realtor associations have completed surveys showing buyers want hardwood doors and flooring

If you cut a fire rated door the manufacturer will likely no longer be responsible for it's performance in a house fire
No, local and federal door regulations do not allow a “fire rated door” to be altered in any way.
ua-cam.com/video/Omxj-XRCpS0/v-deo.html
Order a new one with the proper dimensions if you require a fire rated door.

Ok what's the strongest bedroom door you can obtain something you cant break down unless you have a certain tool
There is slmething called kick proof higes and dead bolts. It is a metal reinforcemt that frames the door out.

Did I miss something? What's inside the Solid Core Molded door?
Solid core doors can vary depending on the manufacture but typically have a wood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) frame filled with particleboard or wood fiber.
I wish you had taken a better look inside the first cheapo door, it's what I am working on and I wanted to see the internals.
@weekendwarrior3420 I was wondering where you can drill for a dead bolt. Checking other videos I could see there is quite a bit of range around where the doorknob is and my project went off without a hitch.
The third door is made of OBS, not hard wood, it's basically a bunch of glued together wood chips. Good material until your house floods.
I think he looks cute.
what is inside of an exterior door?
Mice!~
we are wood door factory
Those hollow core doors should cost 10 bucks, what is the point of that trash!
That’s just pitiful. Those hollow core doors. I hate them.
Buy once, cry once. Better to have a product last than buy a lesser product three times over.
And if the door is standard size, take them to the new home!
OMG, we indians use hard wood teak doors its costs around 75 dollar/Cubic Feet
Entry level doors are the only doors I walk through at the... entry level?!?
No it means cheapest door that does it’s job
@@chickenfoundation9323 it was a rubbish joke. an entry level joke?
All these new la built homes looks so cheap on these you-tubers videos so I had to see if it was tru😂😂😂😂

They first “door” isn’t even a door. It’s literally cardboard and styrofoam. Pathetic.
I have no doubt your solid core doors are very good, but they also probably cost 5 to 10 times as much, depending on the dimensions and the species of wood.
