“It was so hard I wanted to die.” That statement coming from, one of the best and most consistent drummers on UA-cam sums up the level of composition this band had. It’s so insane to me that this material was and is SO influential to almost ALL technical metal without ever trying to be. And a lot of that came out of a 16 year old Suicmez. Congrats for pulling this off man. Your musical work ethic is CONSTANTLY inspiring to me and I appreciate the HOURS OF LIFE you have invested into your craft. It’s a shining example to us all.
It's amazing how young some musicians were when they wrote these unknowingly influential works of art. From Emperor, Mayhem, Necrophagist, to Sarcofago, Chopin, and Paganini, the influences, techniques, and evolution make it all so marvelous.

The fact that Necrophagist used to play this live 10% faster is hella insane. Suicmez said in one of his interviews that the new drummer (Goulon at the time) "his speed limit is a lot higher than the drummers we had so far" ... Incredible.

Alex is the best rendition so far. My first Hannes show, I was lucky enough to see Necrophagist live with Hannes in Seattle 2007 for Summer Slaughter Tour, Studio 7 bar upper deck seats, face next to PA, amazing! I had learned to play only 2 of his songs, Stillborn One and Only Ashes Remain. Both off Epitaph. I also got hang out with Hannes after his show with Obscura , at El Corazon, Seattle cant remember the headliner, was it Wintersun?!?! We grabbed a table in the bar with my gf and each had a few beers, I told him I can play Stillborn One fluently and I am working on Only Ashe remains. He told me good choice and explained the double bass pattern for the pre chorus in Stillborn. He tapped on our bar table to show me the hand pattern. I already knew the song and had learned all the patterns, but sitting with Hannes..........I stfu and listened. Brilliant drummer that is my #1 favorite. I felt he was my friend when we said goodbye, cool guy. Double baste fast, then do chops on the snare. Meat.

Secondly: as an old school metal dude- to watch you cover (in my humble opinion) one of the boldest intro tracks of any metal album ever (circa 2004, no less) is just amazing. I read one of Alex's comments somewhere saying he enjoyed playing non-tech music too. Fair enough, he is a grown man with freedom, but I'm with you, I only bother with the show off type stuff. If you like Whitechapel that is 100% fine, I just thought you implying Whitechapel and Conquering Dystopia was more technical/faster than Necrophagist. LoL, so yeah I was like WTF!?!?! My bad. Conquering Dystopia is pretty badass though, true, true.

Not really. The drum parts were written before he joined the band. He stated in an interview he wasn't able to play that fast and so he had to learn how to do so

I was also in a band that played technical Metal and our guy was an Indie/Rock drummer, but he defied all the odds within our first year. His hard work and our faith in him won the day in the end. Passion is a great motivator when you want it to be.
What blows me away is how easy Necrophagist made it look live. You had a drummer who could blast like this consistently for a 45 minute plus set. What I love about this video is that you get to witness the insane technicality of the song, specifically everything the drums do in it. You can tell how much this drummer struggles to stay with it, but he rocks it on spot on. Like all other Necrophagist fans, I wish they'd release more / new material, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. So I'll just keep repeating their two releases hah. I'm always on the lookout for more tech death metal, but there won't be anyone like these guys. I'm glad there are many fans of the band. I stumbled across them by accident. I play them to my friends who appreciate music technicality. Though none of them like the vocals, they're always blown away by the music itself.
