Uncle Grumpy tears apart my work as I show him my best landscape photography images from 2019. Can I handle criticism from the Landscape photographer of the year knowing that I didn't even make second place? With images from Scotland, The Faroe Islands, Vancouver Island and Oregon, I do my best to impress his sourness.

We may come for the banter, but we stay for the beautiful images. Seriously, I don't know how you manage to capture any images at all with all the filming you must have to do, but that's a cracking portfolio. Great work.

As they say, a good laugh extend your life. Many fantastic photos but if I had to choose only one it would be the last one. The wave in storm is brilliant. So much power in that photo.

I love all the wild and woolly Scottish ones. Also adore the burnt Smith Rock shot. The colours go with my hallway and I do have a very big birthday coming up, just saying!

I like the images a lot - good harvest this year. Probably 2 stick out for me - the one with the incredible Sea-Wall behind the tiny figure next to the fence and the one from the Faroe-Island.

Entertaining video as always. Even a couple of good images! Thanks. And thank you for including a couple shots of Smith Rocks. Just moved to Bend in October and exploring compositions around Smith Rocks is definitely on the agenda. This gives me a couple very good ideas. And, yes, morning light is amazing. If you shoot in this area again then I look forward to seeing your images. Also hoping to get over to Shore Acres this winter. I know a bazillion people have shot those waves breaking there but who cares. It is so impressive! Thanks again for sharing!

This video was a real treat seeing the collection of often spectacular photos. You are right - the photography is the backbone of the vids.
I keep imagining riding to these spots on my bicycle and trying my hand at my own compositions.

Yes the humour in your videos probably draw some viewers but your talent as a photographer can't be forgotten. Anyone wanting a serious Gavin should definitely have a look at your amazing astrophotography course you did with M.S. (we all know you carried that course not that other guy!!!). Just had a new lens delivered and can't wait for an upcoming trip to Cuba where I can put what I have learnt in the course to practice. Thanks for a wonderful,funny 2019 and all the best in 2020.

Many of my favorites in this video. It is fun to hear the same excitement in your voice describing the shot as it had when you were there. ( Except maybe the cave shot in the Faroe Islands where you were probably s---ting bricks). I missed seeing Hoping for a Wave the shot you took in Tofino. One of my favs. If they made a "Photographer of the Year- mid to upper Vancouver Island" you would have it in the bag. I wish you the best of luck in the competition. In my books you are among the best.

All of your images are stunning. You need to talk Uncle Grumpy into astro/Milkyway photography. I went on a night sky workshop and I loved every minute of it. I would like to go back to do a twilight image and blend. We did do some light painting. I live in a suburban area where the light pollution is awful. Just seeing the Milkyway was worth the price of the workshop. Thanks for sharing!!!
Hey Gavin, I love the Shore Acres image with the man standing on the cliff on the wrong side of the barrier!. I got a similar image (without a man on a cliff) in 1995 on my first trip to Oregon from Ireland! Shore Acres is my favorite place in Oregon and I now live in Bend. I would love to meet you for a day of shooting next time you are in Central Oregon. I love the ones of Smith Rock and I didn't even recognize it until I saw the sunset one.

Catching up after a Fototripper detox period! Great images Gavin, it's obvious the judges were biased against you! I'm up in Glencoe and on Skye in first half of May and really torn between taking the time out for Fingals Cave boat trip or doing some extra shots in Glencoe. Decisions...decisions!!
Any picture with Amanda or Katherine in it deserves top honors. They are great sports to put up with you two blokes. The woman in the cave mouth with stars is Amanda isn’t it? Therefore best image of year!

Hi Gavin: You have captured some spectacular images this past year. While it was very difficult for me to choose my favourite, I would have to go with the image from the 'Old Man of Storr' followed closely by Fingals Cave and your astro shot on the Orgen coast. My wife and I are going to Scotland at the end of May this year and my goal is to capture my version of your 'Old Man of Storr' as a homage to your image. Ive got the 24-105 sony lens and I cant actually remember the last time that lens came off the camera. I just throw a pano head in the bag for when I need wider. Especially living in Calgary we have tons of photographers and they all shoot wide landscape shots. You go on Instagram and the compositions are all pretty much the same.
I have a 16-35 but I much favor my 24-70. So many times, super-wide is just too wide.
