I Hiked 50km For One Shot in the Canadian Wilderness Landscape Photography
Вставка

- Brent tells lies. Lies that end up with us hiking 50km in the Canadian backcountry for some wilderness camping and some truly epic landscape photography.
What is he doing in his tent under the gaze of that headlamp? Are 17 bars of chocolate enough for a 50km hike? Will Amanda figure out how to turn off the Jetboil and will I find the perfect composition in time for sunrise?
''There'll be no bugs'', said Brent. That was a lie too.
On the plus side, I'll share with you my gear list for backcountry camping photography trips and take you on the hike of a lifetime. The Tonquin Valley is truly a site behold.

You’re a blessed man to have a wife who enjoys what you do.
Amen!!
WTH!? I thought it was only a vision board right now!??
Don’t think Amanda has snagged him yet 🤣 Not for the lack of trying though - maybe a BIGGER vision board is required 😉
It was worth it just to see the look that Amanda gave you about the "stuffing it" comment. Can't wait to see the images
Gavin. I love you. You seem to be a uniquely lovable, but most definitely, a seruos man.
At one level, your're a first-rank gooball. I just watched Heaton, and then Adam. To be sure, they are both consistently brilliant.
None of them, however, or any of others of yoir ability deliver a ... that I-need-to-watch--Gavin's episode feeling.
You entertain. (Duh!).
You manage a "show" so very much worth watching, just because you do it so very, very well.
Most importantly, for SURE - what you deliver for us here weekly is wonderfully pertinent. Really? It's just wonderful. .... and at the end of any of them?
Gavin, you teach.
You have a gift.
Fun and goofy, but never without serious, teachable substance.
Props. Major ones to you, and those you love.
They all brighten the lives of your fans.
You brighten mine.
Oh THANK GOD!! Voting day RELIEF!! LOVE it!!
It's getting to the point where this is the only photography channel I really look forward to. What is wrong with me?
Very entertaining vlogs Gavin. You make this photography genre funny and a joy to watch. Should be proud of what you've created.
✌️
I have enjoyed your videos for about 2 years now. I seriously don't understand how you and Uncle Grumpy do not have millions of subscribers yet.
Uncle Grumpy did a boot review. I think you need to do a flip flop review.
Moonscape shot is brilliant and beautiful!!!!
those moonlight shots are fantastic Gavin
You dropped this video on the perfect day. I am avoiding the tv election noise (US) and stress, and your videos make me laugh out loud. This is a happy place. BTW.. there is a product you can get called Beano that is pretty good to cut down on the methane from all those beans.
Hey Gavin: Always look forward to your videos. you guys make me laugh! A little advise on your camping gear. Your sleeping bag and tent is way to big for backpacking. Get a down bad that is lighter and compresses down to half the size of the one shown. get a 2 person tent with 2 - vestibules. lighter and much smaller than you have shown. Also your platypus water filter in my opinion takes up to much space and is time consuming in the backcountry. can't think of one I use, but research the filter that attaches to your 1 litter water bottle. Just fill water bottle with any water source and drink. No waiting and much less to carry. With all the camera gear you have to bring, it's important to carry less weight in your pack.
I definitely enjoy your videos. Not only do you bring a lot of talent in the craft, you bring humor and a bit of fun as well. Amanda and Brent are great to have in your videos...Amanda for your humorous interactions (plus she's great to look at and watch) and Brent for the humor but mostly for his photographic expertise as well. I truly enjoy going to your area of the world, and thoroughly enjoy the videos taken on Vancouver Island or on the mainland side relatively near Vancouver, as well as in Yoho - Banff - Jasper National Parks. Keep up the great work.
Sexual innuendo, wild camping, adventure, grand plans, photography, and beautiful scenery. Sounds like a typical fototripper video. morale section....:) Haha excellent as always! Learning whilst laughing makes it memorable!
That is an amazing shot. I can't wait until the next video. I needed a smile on my face today. Thank you for that gift!!!
Ah, that warmed the cockles of my heart. So romantic, the 3 of you on the communal pool. What a life.
Beans = dutch oven time. 🤢 Tip for Amanda, hang a bar of chocolate on the back of your pack..... quickest hike ever. 🤣👍👍👍
It really is the best feeling when you get to your campsite after a long hike and kick your boots off! Gorgeous location.
Great video Gavin. I really like your bag kit for the portable water and the jetboil is always useful
Wow. I though my wife's patient with my photography was top... Until I realized about Amanda's patient with you. She's a gift from heaven, you already know, isn't it?
You two are so cute. I really enjoy following this series. Good, fun work.
Nice to see Amanda's lovely truck !
I love how your test shot is better than any picture I could ever take!
20km! That’s a Sunday stroll for Thomas Heaton.
Tom would be carrying my pack as well as his own.
Yeah - but then he would photograph a shrub in between several complaints :)
Absolutely brilliant ............. Of all of the photography vloggers on YT, your videos are head and shoulders above everything out there. BTW .......... your photos are pretty good as well 📷👍
Gavin, you crack me up!!! When its pouring rain out in Seattle, WA and I can't go outside to snap photos, I watch one or two of your videos. Your personality and laugh are awesome and the way you come across on your You Tube channel is perfect. Your adventures and your photography are both beautiful. Your trips with Amanda , sharing your experiences together is what its all about. Keep up the commentary and great videos, thank you for all you do. Louis Ruth Photography
Thanks Louis :)
Awesome..hike. I laughed and laughed again..ty. Great shot of the moon lit mountain..water was smooth ..did you use a filter? Beautiful shot...can’t wait for the next v blog ..be safe out there.
no filter. no need.
What a start to a new day. ;-) This episode was so entertaining. Good work Gavin, Amanda, and Brent! Can't wait for the second part.
This is the only channel I don't mind sitting through add content for. Two out loud chuckles here!
Something to watch whilst putting the Christmas decorations up!
Been feening for a "juicy" video recently and you have delivered. Well 50%, 100% when the follow up video comes out😎
Finally!!! These big Hollywood productions should be faster putting their episodes on air!
Lol. Planning a hike...Never realized how much fun planning a hike can be. Laughter on the trail, eechoing off the hills.
This is brilliant! What a beautiful image and location too. I'm so looking forward to the next episode. Thanks so much.
With the world going to hell in a hand basket really quickly today - this "photography" blog was just the ticket ... to ... oops .... to smile and laugh out loud.
best one ever! can’t wait for the next one.
Well done on the 50K Gavin. You deserve it after all you’re hard work and countless outtakes. I laughed out load, 3 times and I was only into the video by 2 minutes. Don’t tell Amanda I used to be a wedding photographer as well as a landscape photographer, or that I’ll be in Canada next year. Otherwise you’ll be walking down that aisle faster than your little flip flopped feet can carry you.
hahahah, thanks a lot Simon.
i used to make Mac n Cheese with corn and hot dogs mixed in. the hot dogs were cut up of course. Now i make it with caramelized onions and bratwurst, preferably something spicy, like a jalapeño cheddar brat.
You are a true legend and a true inspiration Amanda too but not quite as much as you, awesome blogg all the pleasure you give our family in your videos you should be a mbe at least
A most splendiferous episode! Cant wait for the next one, will you be flip flopping about?
ofcourse
Just the pick me up I needed tonight here at work! Cheers Gav, looking forwards to the next episode 😂
'Keep tuggin' 🤣
Can't wait for the next one 🔥😂comedy gold 🥇
now that does look like a photogasm factory there... nice !! looking forward to part deux
Loved it. I would have had to be dragged in after 10k. I admire your adventurous spirit. Amanda is hilarious as well. I’ll have to send you some of our local chocolate.
Thanks a lot for the great video! Can't wait for the second part!:)
Omg, had me in stitches yet again, so addictive Gavin :)
Some good camping tips and top quality, high brow entertainment there. Looking forward to part two 😃
beans and clean fresh mountain air, beautiful combination 😂 ooo I vant to visit Canada! You brought a table????
Amusing (for a yorkshireman) and a high quality photo at the end of a long day. Keep up the good work.
High quality entertainment indeed! Hilarious as always. Keep doing this, dude!
Man... yours are my favourite videos on UA-cam!! Yes, my bottle of Shiraz is almost empty.
you should ALWAYS give Amanda as much chocolate as she wants.. keep that girl happy.. she puts up with a lot..
She really does
I am STAYING TUNED !!!
An excellent start to what looks like an epic adventure. :D
Ah-hah - the Morale Section! I love it!!
22:53 That's a banger Gav.
'Desperately trying to get it in..." I can relate.
I did the same hike in September in order to get a sunrise shot at the lake. Beautiful spot. On the hike out came across grizzly bears (mother and cub) along the side of the trail. Hikers were walking past in groups. Looking forward to your next video.
Whistles are also good to take for two reasons. 1) They scare bears... 2) Better than shouting for help three sharp blows (pardon the pun) on the whistle is better and easier on the throat / voice cords...
Or do they attract the bears?
If you want a really good way to scare bears.. Have an air horn... Failing that ensure you have a good pair of trainers to out run the person you are with... Natures rule "Survival of the fittest..",... Heheee
@@peterknight9873 I hear it has the opposite effect and sparks the curiosity of bears. Where I live, bears clearly care nothing for car horns and the noise of humans. It doesn't deter them.
@@fototripper Interesting dilemma.. I also read that when the pepper spray dries it attracts more bears.. So it's true make sure you can run faster than the person you are with... In regards to the whistle I was informed the whistle should sound at greater than 120db. Car horns are usually around 109 and 110 db.. Maybe the internet has too much information and confuses.. The simplest is good running shoes to run faster than the person you are with is the safest..heheee.. Great videos and very entertaining... Keep it going..
Great stuff as always! Made me laugh out loud more than a few times hahaha
I started dehydrating my own backpacking food many years ago. So much better tasting and healthier ( salt to your personal taste ) than that store bought crap. On a side note, that crapper would take some getting used to, especially if a stranger came along and sat down beside you. Wonder what the icebreaking conversation would sound like ?
I always save your videos for a treat and of course a chocolate bar is compulsory!
Thanks! I needed that! Yup, really needed that!
LOL. I recognized the Tonquin from the three abreast crapper shot at the beginning. Bugs?! You should have seen it this summer, mate - worst bugs I've ever seen in the Tonquin. One of my favourite locations though - and you're right, better as a sunrise location.don'tcontours to
I flat refuse to go there in the summer. That marsh is bugsville
Love love your videos
Thank you for my morning smile.
no bum wipe? I use sphagnum moss, it's everywhere, it's absorbent, anti-septic, and kind to your nether parts, as long as you remember to pick out the twiggy bits first.
it's the best sitcom ever. Just sweeten the sound by adding a laugh track! :)))
Love your videos. Make photography seem fun and easy. Even though its not easy, it can be fun. Thanks.
So when are ye 2 getting married? 🍾🥂👫
Sheepskin foot beds help a lot in keeping your feet warmer for longer. They will still get cold eventually, but I find they keep me toasty standing around in British winter's.
Mexico cowboy beans and rice......reminds me of the campfire scene in Blazing Saddles!!!
Another gem, thank you.
Beautifull out there Gavin. Looking foreword to the photo’s.
Man, my only comment to this episode is, that Amanda is such a lovable and charming woman. Her face can express thousand words in a fraction of a second. She deserves a man like you Gavin (hope I am collecting points with the latter statement?).
Points overload.
As a corn allergy sufferer I completely appreciate the comment that corn does not belong in perfectly good food. Why ruin perfectly good Mac & Cheese with corn? Corn is everywhere! I am so addicted to your videos. My husband is the one that watches for photography. I don't even take photographs and when he explains to me how he is taking the photos I just look at him blankly and say uh huh, interesting, yep, wow that's cool. I keep watching your videos for the laughs and to find some hidden Easter egg from your story with Amanda! Thanks for entertaining!!
Corn is just plain wrong.
I love you guys! Cute, funny and entertaining! Greetings and best wishes from the mainland!
For a good nights sleep you can’t go wrong with Big Agnes.... I have the Q-core Bloody brilliant.
I can't do mummy bags on account of the hot vapour emanating from my feet.
And I love the " what's on the backpack" . Different countries and laws. We can't make fire in the woods. And the toilet paper, c'mon , there are small wipes... With perfume 😁
Beautiful moonlit shot of the ramparts there Willie Wonka. lol Love that place. Looking forward to next week's shit ticket episode. And I know the feeling of the footweargasm. Long live the flip-flop!! :D
Well worth waiting for. What a great looking place. What's this hibiscus tea rubbish? What no yorkshire tea? Yeah the "stuffing it in " comment and look was funny. Thanks
I've never seen a bear in my life, but the sound effect at 10:55 scared the hell out of me lmao
I LOVE Amanda!
I’m on 5th minute, great vid.
One tip for warmth in tent, coleman f1 gas lantern, in the evening will heat up tent nicely. Game changer
Anyways I go back watching you vid
Sounds....flammable.
@@fototripper I’m sure you can use it safely😉, just start mantle before hiking for first burn. After it will give hot glow and it’s in metal net casing. Mine it’s used out hiking and sometimes to warm my car if I don’t want to run engine
Ha ha ha flip flop gasm, great vlog as always roll on the second part
Gavin: I always have to stuff it in.
Me: That's me boy.
Amanda: Hope your memory is good dear.
Awesome video and funny but it worth it nice job guys
“You just keep tuggin’”. I nearly choked on my Horlicks 😮
Is "Horlicks" a euphemism?
That is amazingly beautiful country and if that's a test shot then there are some really amazing photos to come.
Isn't there a back country lodge in Tonquin Valley that Adam goes to? That place where you can ride a horse to the lodge, sleep in a real bed and probably get mac & cheese with no corn. If you don't want to ride maybe you can just have the horse carry your pack. It's something to be considered for next time. I'm sure Amanda would be on board.
I'd prefer to carry in my own gear but I hear the food is excellent at the Lodge. Maybe we'll try it.
the coffee PSA disclaimer made my day, I might of been one of the previous coffee trolls. Hahaha.
yah, backcountry means lower standards ;)
I need more wiiiiine!
Hilarious, can't wait for Part Deux.
Great! Swiss chocolate. Essential
OMG. You guys are killing me, so hilarious. Just a note... Try Mountain House Adventure Meals my son loves them.... He’s only 12 but he requests these ever since my husband had him try them. Neither one of them hike though, lol, my husband bought them to put in his camper van THAT he never drives...ugh... The biscuits and gravy, the lasagna and the spaghetti are the ones he requests the most...
Avid watcher, keep up the great content...
Special points for using KM!
Next time get rid of those strange pounds and things and for Kg! :)
Chocolate gives me too many pimples, even at my age!! 😡 love this one mate, good as always! ✊🏼👍🏼
I always have to stuff it in..... that smirk tho lol.
Mann this is Gold !!!😍👌👌👌😂😂😂
Gavin lost weight!! Good job!
Excellent thanks
All that chocolate..............you are going to have to resize those hip straps......love the vlog
