Thank very much for the kind words! It's an honor to have one of my photos critiqued on your channel. There's was a lot of great images in this video, great work everybody!
Hi Nigel. Feel privileged that you selected my image to be critiqued! Thanks so much and will definitely take the critique onboard when I’m lucky enough to be back in the same spot on the West coast of Scotland in just 2 weeks time. Will make sure I have an appropriate supply of apples to ensure sufficient time for checking and double checking the (hopefully!) improved composition 😀😀 🍎 😀
Really great critiques on fabulous images. Fantastic to see how many excellent photographers there are out and about capturing nature at its best! Thank you for your insights, Nigel and ‘one and all’ photographers!
Gosh finally had a moment to watch this very educational video. Fabulous selection of images to talk through. Thank you so much for choosing my image of the Archway Islands to critique. I am over the moon.
Thanks for the review on Woodland 1 / the waterfall photo 8:38 As tempting as it was to move the log, I wanted to respect being in a National Park and minimize any disturbance. Very much appreciate these videos and thanks again for taking the time to review my photo. Cheers! -Tim
Great shot! Leave nature alone. Things are seldom tidy when it's natural. Of course, moving small things like leaves would be perfectly fine. Just my opinion.
As someone who shoots halo/arc phenomena without the benefit of beautiful surroundings, I always have to comment when a halo or parhelia appear in landscape photography videos. That moon halo and tree photo was just amazing!
Oh my gosh, I can't believe my photo made it in the Video!! Thanks a lot for your Input, I really appreciate it. I guess I was so busy looking for a composition I kind of missed the light that morning. Also I'll try to take better care of my foreground next time. Since I just got the 14-24mm recently I think I really need to practice here... When you take wide angle photos, it looks so much easier that it actually is! 😄 Thanks again! Best wishes. ~ Thorben
Thank you so much for this video! I was so excited to have my picture review by you (Image 14 woodland (not from Andrew but from me ;-) ). Thank you so much for your advices. I will retry this shot next autumn by a foggy morning! It was foggy when I arrived on site, but by the time I find this place, the fog was not there anymore. I will go back there this summer to be ready this autumn. Thank you so much. I learned so much since I discover your channel and follow your Masterclasses.
A trick I've found for these types of woodland shots that look great in person, but seem to be flat when you look at the image, is to close one eye while scouting the location or looking for good shots. That will remove your sense of 3d, and give you a better idea of what the resulting image will look like.
I enjoyed this video. I feel i can learn vicariously through all of the photographers who submitted work, as I definitely am guilty of many of the same mistakes!
7:17 it is what it is! I highly dislike when the foreground is more exposed than background and it makes no sense considering the position of the light in the scene...
HI Nigel. Thank you for another great video. While taking #22 I was genuinely focusing on your lessons and maneuvered my car so carefully to line up the trees. I had visited the site twice, once at sunset and once at sunrise. During the sunrise shoot I had to keep telling other safari goers that there were no lions, just pretty trees. Having gotten a pleasing comp, I noticed that there were a few birds flying around just before the sun peaked over the horizon behind me. I got three series of birds but #22 had the best pose and placement of a lovely Burchell's starling. I appreciate your commentary, especially as I was not certain about the shallow DoF I had chosen. John
Great vid and some spot on advice!...I do slightly disagree on some points, but then it's a question of individual taste and ultimately the look and feel you're trying to achieve...apart from the glaringly obvious mistakes that the beginner wouldn't pick up on of course..🙂..Anyway, thanks! very enjoyable! How often do you do these critiques? I'd love you to have a nose at some of mine..where you can destroy me for daring to disagree!! lol.. All the best..and I look forward to checking out more of your vids 😉
A great video and always something to learn. I strongly believe that being genuinely open to feedback from each other is such an amazing way to improve. Good work :)
At the start of the video i thought i'd subscribe to the newsletter so i could send a shot of mine next time, but after seeing the shots in the video i am not doing it. After about 20 years of photography, i have nothing remotely close to this level of shots, coming from "amateurs". Amazing quality...
This was such an interesting video. I would have a question, which is about the lightroom function of perspective calibration, where you can tilt the angle of observation, and I feel like potentially it could fix a few of the 'empty regions' issues you've pointed out. I've noticed that it's a tool I've not seen you use, is that something you wouldn't recommend? Thank you so much for these videos, they've helped me a lot
I played a little game with myself while watching this week's video: Can I guess what Nigel's gonna say before he says it about each image, and do I agree or not? I found that in matters of composition and framing I was 100% on both, but in matters of editing we diverge. I don't know what to make of that, but it's interesting to think about.
Maybe we have as little woodland entries to this video because the forest in other countries are the same as here in my region of Germany: cultivated, single-crop farming ones - without any character to it. IDK how soulless forest are in other countries though
Been waiting for a deal on the composition ebook and thought the moment had arrived. You mention at 14:25 that it's available for GBP25, but not so on the website.
Good morning, thank you very much for your critique, the location was on Sligachan river, Isle of Skye. Thank you again and i cant wait to see your Antarctica photos
It's ironic that town photos usually look more natural (to me) than ones taken in the countryside. Maybe I've been exposed to too much AI art, but some of their landscape photos look very AI-ish (to me). I know they aren't (or presume they aren't) but the style and possibly extensive editing give them that feel. I guess street photos may be in the same place in five years time.
Note to self...bring a fog machine on my woodland photo shoots. 🤣

I really like these kind of Videos, because you can learn so much. Also I learnt a lot from your composition book, thanks for putting it out.
These videos are so great. You're so generous to do this and I love that you respect people's work and vision!
Excellent video. Love these types of reviews. I also love how you talk about your mindset when composing and setting up your own shots.
I liked the rapid-fire style of this critique video.

That's a hell of a shot man, love it

Thank you to submitters and Nigel- I learn a lot this way and hope my next photo will be better than the previous one. Thank you again! 21:25
Thanks so much for your nice critique and comments of my photo, Nigel, really great to see it in your video! Cheers!!
Great video. Forgot to send in a photo and hope you repeat this again as its really helpful advice for any landscape photographer
Totally agree with this! We can all learn so much from the likes of Nigel, but also from each other :)

Nice images overall. I learn from these critiques, and I thank all who submit work to be scrutinized.
Learning so much from this video, would love to see more like these.
I love this video - as an amateur photographer looking to learn. Interesting to watch and see what others/professionals see. Thank you.
I always learn a lot from these critique videos! Thanks!

It is a good idea ! Thank you for the suggestion!
I love this video. And your choice to return to what lights YOU up; it will shine through to the right viewer. Trust in that.
I really liked this video. I find critiques are so informational and gets you to think next time you are out photographing.
Thanks. The radial filter on the sun really helps.

Great video, very educational and entertaining.
Thanks a lot for the hints how to improve my image!
These videos are so helpfull. I signed up for the newsletter, hoping to participate in one of these in the future perhaps.

those photos are all so pretty!
Great photos everyone , well done 👏.
15:00 looks like black Cullin mountains shot from Sligachan
I thought that too...

I recognised the Moeraki Boulders instantly. Suffice to say my photos of that location weren’t anywhere near as good as that one! 😂
Great vid 👌

Most problems are related to crop. maybe you should make a video about this
Where can I send you a photo to get your review?
Thanks Nigel for picking my moon halo picture so glad you liked it 👍
Been waiting for a deal on the composition ebook and thought the moment had arrived.
You mention at 14:25 that it's available for GBP25, but not so on the website.
Thanks so much Nigel for the lovely comments of my image in this video!
i recognised your photo from the south west coastal path competition!
photo number 3 is in new zealand!!
Hi. Great Review what is the Name again of the other photographer 13:57 min ?
The photo at like 11:35 looks like a painting
Pity above the film strip..
how do I send in my photo?
He tells you at the start of the video.
Nigel, I think the island in photo no. 20 adds a necessary balance ;-)
Otherwise, great catches, thanks!

@14:45 - Skye

Yup. Nature isn't perfect. Seeking perfection, will always appear unnatural.
Nygel or negel?
