I was thinking the other way around. It appears that Nova Scotia could be a destination for photographers and bird watchers! You should be able to give visitors help in determining where to go and possibly help the locals to develop their tourist industry. My motto is Multi Use. The same device, place or building can serve locals and visitors in different ways.
Daley Point near Bathurst NB, there is an amazing path with paper birches. I'd like to go back and take more shots there. Pabineau Falls is nearby as well. Jacquet River Gorge.
I watched the whole video to see the world class landscape photographer you mentioned at 0.08, but all I saw was that fool Gavin!! I hoping you had managed to persuade that real pro, Clarence, to come out of retirement.
@@simon_dentremont apparently UA-cam rates you higher in their algorithm if people click the thumbs up button immediately. so I do that in every video I see, within the first few seconds! Thank you again.
Amazing location and great shots. I live in the UK so will not get the chance to photograph there. Yes, I like landscape content. However, I like your style of content which I find enjoyable, informative and helpful - whatever the title of the episode is.
Gavin and Amanda are lovely people with a great sense of humor. I admire Gavins persistense when he is hunting his inner composition. He usually ends up with very impressive results.
Howdy from Texas! So glad you've connected with Gavin (& Amanda). I've been following Gavin for years. I really appreciate your excellent vlog of Hopewell Rocks. It's helping me to better plan my trip up there at the end of September. I'll be in Saint John, NB for a couple of days then up to Hopewell Rocks for the last day before driving back down to Maine to visit mom. I'd appreciate any location & photography insight for the Saint John area with the reversing tides, etc. I shoot Landscape, Astro ... and very little wildlife (mostly birds). Thanks again for the great vlog. Looking forward to the next ones!!
Thanks chicky! I don’t know Saint John very well so can’t help you there. You might want to check if by then there are still any Puffins at Machias Island. I’ve never been, but I hear from friends it’s amazing. the only question is weather the birds area still there. it may be too late by then.
It was a great meeting I've been waiting for. Gavin Hardcastle as a humble admiring schoolboy meets the great master of backlight Simon d'Entremont. Love it that you're willing to teach Amanda the skills of good Bird photography. In a new environment it's good to make friends. Colouring the life of Amanda with your experience, it's almost like a little girls dream come true. Like you lovely nature loving people. Don't be modest Simon. I think you're really a great teacher. Love it when great men meet each other.
Was wondering who Gavin would be hooking up with on the East Coast. Also good to see your ease at working landscapes. My favorite is still your video on bird sharpness. Thanks
Don't know what surprised me the most, seeing you doing landscapes without a bird in the scene or Gavin H. on your channel! Always great though. I do landscapes as well as birds so I was already quite familiar with Gavin's channel. Now that I've become bird-addicted, I look forward to yours! Cheers.
@@simon_dentremont Thanks mate, the more people on UA-cam the better as it inspires people to take up wildlife photography or photography in general. There is something very special about our hobby and I am happy to see so many people enjoying it. Cheers, Duade
Hopewell Rocks is such an amazing place for photography! And what a treat to see Amanda and Gavin invited along with you. Gavin will undoubtedly have you doubled over in laughter 😅 I'm sure he'll enjoy the experience of being in such an amazing area Cheers!
People should realise just how dangerous tides like these are. No risk policy and never alone. We have a 14.5m tide here with quicksands as an added bonus. NO RISKS. Good to see that Amanda and Gary are making friends. 😊
Good points! We were watching the tides like hawks. I was going to add some commentary about not being on the beach after xyz, but my video was already getting long.
You look like the guy who can take some mean things, be a cool guy, and throw the bully off the cliff :)) That tells me a single thing, you are a serious guy when it comes to taking it with the nature.
Outstanding video, Simon! I love landscape photography, although I am focused on learning basic astrophotography at the moment. Your tips and explanations are always so helpful. I enjoyed seeing your sense of humor in this video. Merci et tout le meilleur!
Really enjoyed it Simon. I’d like to have seen more of the end results perhaps shown at the end of the video. I have only dabbled with star photography and have so much to learn on that’s side of things. Although I enjoyed this one, I do like your bird photography videos much more and IMHO I think that’s where your strength is.
Hey I recognize those guys, ha ha! What a cool night/morning, that sunrise we were graced with was spectacular! Great vid Simon…hope to run into you again! 😎📸
Dang Simon, maybe a landscape photographer of the year award for you soon... Just kidding Gavin. Love both your channels and great content. Didn't see Gavin shooing away any bugs in this one however. Hope you guys do a lot more videos together, maybe one of Gavin trying birding be a good one to do! Keep up the good work.
Awesome, get Amanda hooked on bird photography then Gavin will really have something to keep him awake at night. lol I would love to see Gavin and uncle grumpy dealing with the pressure of looking through the view finder at a target that never sits still lol.
I just thought the other day the two of you should meet up. Glad you did! @Simon: Your tutorials are amazing and giving so many details on your process is so helpful! @Gavin: Always great tips and a good laugh and AMAZING pictures! Hope you two get lots of followers as you both deserve it. by the way gavin, when is Adam Gibbs coming over. Heard he made a pretty great book. 😉
I really love seeing the final product, they look amazing! I would be nice to know what lens and camera you ended up using. I knew you had a R5 but I didn’t realize you had a R6 which would probably work better in these low light images.
i used the R5 for these and used the R6 for vlogging, but I’ll probably do an R5 vs R6 comparison some day and I’ll include some Astro shots in it. I was using the Canon L 17-40 f4 for landscapes, and Sigma Art 20mm f1.4 for Astro.
I was really wondering what the focal length was. I’ve been debating on what 1.4 lens to couple to my R5. I’ve always enjoyed astronomy and would really like to try Astro photography. Thank you for the videos, they’ve been inspiring me to get out more and try things outside of my comfort zone!
Hey Simon! Amazing photos and you have a great channel! You have a new subscriber. I know you’re a professional wildlife photographer and if you don’t mind me asking, how do you make a living photographing wildlife? Selling prints?
Do you guys like landscape content? If so, let me know, and feel free to recommend locations!
Oh yeah. Mixing between the two would be great. I do both myself.
Yes please! Try to get it the way you do your amazing birding tutorials and it will be a blast!

Great video, i would have liked to see more of your resuting images. Do you ever sell any images in large sizes?
Yes I do! up to 28x36 if needed and the pic can handle it quality-wise,, but usually 16x20 inches is my standard « large » size.

seagull - eagle of the sea
what lens was the choice for the shoot
I used the Canon L 17-40 EF
Hopewell Rocks is a great site. Did you have to get any special permission to enter or stay after hours?
we just stayed late.
What lens do you use for the best photos?
Watching your video , it appears that the Canon R5 can blend bracketed exposures in camera ? Is this true ?
I blended them after, but it may have an in-camera HDR setting…not sure
Does anyone block off these flower pots as their bases get really thin and there is a risk of it collapsing unexpectedly.
One fell a few years ago. I think the risk is greatest during winter storms at high tide, when there’s no one there.
