I’ve never had any results with any of the Mr fothergills bonsai kits. Their seeds are good but these kits are not good. I stay away from them unless they’re extremely on special. Cool to see you got results
Yeah, the seeds germinate although currently, they're not growing really well, I've had other pine seedlings that I grew from seeds I collected from planted trees and they seem to do much better.
hi mate! great video. I just bought one of these from Bunnings, and I put a cling wrap on and growing it under a growlight. few days later the paper pot started molding! should I transfer it to a plastic pot? cheers!
I recommend that you use plastic pots as seedlings prefer not to be touched in their first year. I lost one of the seedlings shown due to the pot breaking down and repotting during the wrong time of the year. I used these pots for some of the seeds just to test out if the kit works but if you have your own pots, it would be a much better option.
Hey mate. How much did you water them between sewing the seeds and germination? I planted some earlier this week and need to know how often to water them. Cheers
I would plant the next season as I stratified the seeds in the fridge for around 2-3 months, and if you are doing that right now, you would be germinating them in the January - February period and they will get a very short first growing season.
If you get good bonsai material (usually pretty expensive), it can be done in 3-5 years. If you grow from seeds or cuttings, whether it is a coniferous, broadleafed evergreen or deciduous, it may take over 10 years especially the initial process of trunk thickening and root pruning.
Don't sucker poor people into buying these stupid kits.lol. you have 100% more luck gathering seedlings from the Forrest or yamadori. One does not grow bonsai. Bonsai is something we create..
This video was simply made to see if these kits work. I am by no means encouraging people to buy these kits as if you really want to develop good bonsai, you can go to bonsai nursery and choose a starter plant you can work on. I am also pretty sure there are laws here in Australia that prevent you from just taking trees in the wild so I am pretty sure you cannot just go collecting unless the land is someone’s property and they gave you permission to take trees.

I watered them when the surface of the substrate began to look dry so that the seeds would be moist at all times.
i got given this exact same growing kit. is right now (late october) in New Zealand too late to plant the seeds?

What's the difference between those bonsai's you mentioned at the beginning? And how long would it take for a bonsai to fully grow? Thx

Any updates on these?
The pines are doing fine, except that they haven't really grown all that much this season.
How big are full grown bonsais
You can train your bonsai as big as you want but they usually fit into different size categories if you are competing in shows.
