Very enjoyable Kit. I’m off out now looking under our Japanese maple trees for seeds. I’ve been thinking they were all sycamore shooting up all over the garden.😊
Thank you, they do grow very easily from seed, they’re a lot smaller seedlings than sycamore. Good luck if you find some, they don’t seem to mind being dug up. 🌱🌱😊🌱🌱
End of March I think, just as the weather starts warming up. They don’t do well if started indoors, best to sow them in a greenhouse or outside and they’ll come up when they’re ready.
Such lovely terrarium! So many questions I have for you lol Do you plan on keeping, pruning and training them in there? How old is this terrarium? Great scape all looks lush and established!
Thank you, I didn’t really have any plans but I will be pruning them when needed and I’ll probably change it again at some point. It’s 8 months old now and going well, the pine tree died, everything else has gone crazy.
That's so awesome I too made a small 10g terrarium with lot's of native moss and what I believe is a lemon tree that grew from seed and a propagated begonia. I want to house a frog or salamander soon. I have too many crickets rn. Do you have springtails and isopods and do you plan on making it a ecosystem? I think some sort of waterfall might be needed in mine in the near future. Have you thought about any water feature in yours?
Thank you for the advice! :)) I am growing Japanese maples from seeds I collected last December and just now (early March) about eleven of my seeds germinated (in my fridge!). I didn't wait though until they became bigger before putting them about 1 cm into the earth two days ago. Some of them had just about 2 millimeters of root coming out. Should I have waited until they developed small baby leaves before planting them in earth? I am worried my seedlings won't grow well, because this is my first try. I can't wait to see little red leaves grow though😍
Hola que tal yo tenía igual una plantita de Arce rojo y media apenas 6 centímetros pero ya había sacado sus hojas pero desafortunadamente se la comió mi cotorra y solo le dejo el tronco será que todavía puede desarrollar o ya no gracias
Im a bit shocked! You said you kept the seeds in warm. But what I have seen some videos, everybody put it into a fridge. Im very confused now to be honest.
Absolutely fabulous from Auburn California in the United States !! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

what season did you germinate the seeds?
I wanted to ask same question, what month did you plant the seedlings please? I started some J maple seeds in winter and they're so fragile

They were stored outside all winter in our porch, they would have been subjected to the cold.
