My 2 product solution for video editing is Descript -> FCP. I do AI for business tutorials. Previously, I used FCP alone. It worked, but was hugely time consuming. Now I use Descript for phase 1 video editing and then import to FCP for several video, audio and other effects you can't do in Descript (and likely in CapCut). Descript saves a ton of time in that first phase (e.g. eliminating filler words, modifying words, deleting sections).
Yea I do similar depending on the project. Descript is awesome for the transcript-based stuff but way too limited on animations and more dynamic stuff.
Yup! In Descript you can create what's called Sequences which are ways to sync and edit two or more tracks. Then, it has a mulit-cam that will autoswitch the camera between whoever is currently speaking. If you're talking about switching the camera DURING the recording process, you'll want to look into something like OBS to dynamically change the camera
I’m learning about these AI editing tools but I have one BIG question… What does the video look like when these silences or filler words are removed? Does it automatically make a jump cut or does the video look glitched?
Yes, it will be glitchy especially if the subject is moving around a lot. Generally, I cover this up by playing around with the zoom level or just placing b-roll over the cut. Or, in the case of an interview, you can cut to a side-by-side or alternate camera view
You just won a new subscriber. although I am a Camtasia junky, I plan to use Descript to see if I can produce content faster. I plan to use it for shorter videos that do not require advanced editing skills. This channel should be a good way for me to learn Descript. Looking forward to more of your videos. Please let me know what recommendations that you may have for me. Always willing to learn and network.
Thank you! Glad to have you here. Never used Camtasia myself but from what I’ve seen, it looks a bit more capable than Descript for screen recording. But yes, Descript is definitely fast. Especially once you get into using templates you can really crank out content fast!
Camtasia would be classified as a "tweener" product, sitting in between Descript/CapCut and FCP/Premiere Pro. I am a SnagIt user (produced by the same company as Camtasia) and looked at the Camtasia product. My view is that once you get past the relatively steep learning curve of FCP/Premiere Pro, you wouldn't step down to Camtasia. However, you would use Descript (and perhaps CapCut) in conjunction with either of the 2 high end products. Camtasia seems to be a good product for those that don't need the features of the high end solutions, but want more than what Descript and CapCut have to offer.
@@genaiignite I agree the Premier has a steep learning curve. But Final Cut is super easy to learn. Most videos that I see on UA-cam do not require Davinci Resolve, Vegas Studio, Final Cut, or Premier. That is just overkill. Camtasia is more than capable of making some awesome, eye-catching videos. I only use FCP when I am on my MAC or really need some major effects. Davinci Resolve and Premier are just sitting on my Windows Computer collecting dust.
I’m a newbie to UA-cam - I used descript to edit my first video - I am a blog style channel- and will create more long form videos - I liked having the ability to edit using the script tools , but beyond that that my editing was just ok. I liked having descript but can’t find tutorials that are beginner friendly enough for me. I need step by step because I have ZERO experience. Is CapCut easier for beginners?? Help
This whole channel is Descript tutorials for beginners :) start with this tutorial I made recently: ua-cam.com/video/b_w754XJj30/v-deo.html Hmmm both are relatively beginner friendly but if you’ll be doing a lot of talking in your videos - I recommend Descript. If it’s a lot of cinematic shots, CapCut will be better
Great polished Presentation- Glad I Found you- I really like using OBS Studio and CapCut but we are not polished speakers, because of your video I am going to try it for the eye-contact benefit- Knowing what may happen to Capcut it may be a better choice. I also really like Ramdy, he's such a great personality for the Brand. And, Good luck to you, I have browsed your videos and can see the hard work you have put in. I'm sure it will start paying off if it hasn't already
Thank you so much! really appreciate the kind words. I just used OBS for the first time for a livestream(on this channel) and was super impressed! Super easy to figure out, very capable, and FREE!
Yeah, I do 80% of editing (in 20% of the time) in Descript then the remainder in Camtasia (I've used it for years and am comfortable with the software).
@@DescriptMastery it's faster for me to use the timeline and make finishing edits. I'm sure that I can do everything in Descript but I'm a very basic Descript user who uses it for quick edits and the AI tools (which save me a ton of time). Plus, I have existing templates set up in Camtasia already so while my workflow isn't optimal, it works for me. Descript saves me hours with their fast editing and AI tools though 🙂
That makes sense. Totally understand why you'd stick with it. Also, I've seen screen recordings made with Camtasia and it seems like it can do a lot more than Descript in terms of zooms and making screen recordings more interesting. I'm planning to make a "Descript versus" series so maybe Camtasia will be my next one!
@@DescriptMastery your videos are great and have helped me. Yes, I would definitely recommend doing those videos because the keywords will allow your videos to show up in UA-cam search when people search for other editing programs!

Doesnt DeScript have a web version?
Yes, it does! It's a bit limited compared to the app version though
What formats can you export from Descript? And does it matter that I will record on an iPhone 13 and use a PC (not a Mac) for video editing?
For exporting, only mp4 for video. For audio, you can choose mp3 or wav.
And no, PC and Mac are identical in functionality
Can you record a podcast with two cameras in a room and sync them, and edit it as one by switching back and forth? I want to do a two camera podcast.
Yup! In Descript you can create what's called Sequences which are ways to sync and edit two or more tracks. Then, it has a mulit-cam that will autoswitch the camera between whoever is currently speaking.
