I've been using descript and it is amazing how quickly you can edit as you go. The only limitations that I see are the lack of integrations with external transitions... unless I'm missing something. Or graphics like lower thirds. The one extra thing you should explore is overdub. The training on your voice is really good!!
Yes overdub is wild!! You can add lower thirds that are already an animated file but there is also the ability to add animations, like have objects slide or fade in. I did that with my blue “slides” in this video.
Thanks Meredith, and congrats on all the content you've been pumping out these days - really good stuff! Call me old-fashioned, but I'm still using Screenflow because it's the only screen capture tool that I know of that supports a multi-channel audio interface. As a pro musician, one simply can't use something like Descript or Camtasia or any of the others until they allow multi-camera, real-time screencasting, AND support for multi-channel audio interfaces where it can split at least 8 channels of audio coming in from a single interface or mixing board. I would LOVE to use Descript - it's just not there for me personally (or pro musicians/UA-camrs). For 99% of the rest of the world, I think it would work just fine. Hopefully, Descript will create that feature someday too for us musician types...
Thank you!! Yes you're right, ScreenFlow is sooo so so good (for many reasons beyond multi-channel audio!!) and I love it for in-depth screen tutorials.
I love descript but I wish it used the snapchat filters like OBS does. It would be amazing if I could make it really spooky with a background and then me talking. There are so many cool things I can use coming out. I wish more people visited the channel so they could see them. I'll never give up FCP though because there are so many filters I can use that are better than what descript has for now.

I use a cam and an external mic and currently edit the audio in Timebolt and then export as a multicam clip to FCPX where I add the cam and sync it to the audio. Is there a way of doing something similar in Descript? Thanks

@@meredithmarsh thanks. I’m using iMovie. I just used the Ecamm Live trial version to record myself in segments as I went along. I saved, then just uploaded to iMovie to edit, and save/upload to UA-cam per one of your other videos. Seemed very straightforward, but am going to use some of your other tips here shortly. Been a lot of fun and educational so far. Plus, a good way to get the family involved. Kids love this stuff.

Wow the more I learn about Descript the more I think I should use it for my online courses and maybe even the podcast. I’m using Davinci Resolve 18 to edit my videos, it’s awesome but too complex.

Feel like this only works for Podcasters or Just linear tasks, as a musician creating videos it's super important to skim thru & figure out the takes

When doing multi-cam edits with Descript, do all of the cuts / ignores / text edits translate to all (both) camera views? As in, I could edit it as confidently as I would a single video? If so that’s good. I had been using FCPX to merge videos & then bounce out a multi-cam view of my screen+camera, then taking it into Descript.
Do you know if Descript has as reliable & easy of an audio sync as FCPX now though?
Yes, the cuts and ignores apply across the multi-cams. Audio syncing isn't automatic, you can manually sync anything you need to though.

I love Descript but if you want to do some heavy video editing and have a ton of effects and transitions be sure to not have a lot of browser tabs open because it will lag and lag when editing 1hr long videos. Podcasts are okay but adding media it can creep.

@@meredithmarsh 😓 I really used J cut and L cut a lot of times.. I wanted to maximized descipt , we hope soon.
I’m finding I need all the editing software cause each one has something that isn’t as good. For example color correction and transitions cannot be compared. I use capcut for captions and filters, descript to edit. If they could just merge them all into one I’d be so delighted.
Try premiere pro or Final Cut!
