I have so needed this video. Thank you Alice! I am 61, let myself become overweight, have some major stressors in my life, and have allowed myself to become the frumpy, matronly, unhappy person who looks as bad as I feel. The fashion choices available to me with my budget, and my location, make it difficult for me to select nice pieces. I tried to find outfits to wear for my vacation, and ended up finding my favorite pieces at a thrift store in Naples, FL. A Karl Lagerfeld dress, Calvin Klein dress, Michael Kors pants, etc. for a fraction of new. Starting over has been hard, but rewarding, and the confidence to go on is increasing with each bit of advice I took from this video.
Wear amazing sunglasses (Target)! Be as thin as possible, carnivore worked for me. Have a positive attitude. Walk Tall, Straight and Strong. Make sure your hair has professional cut and flattering length. You are outta the frump!
Going to Paris for 6 weeks almost 30 years ago changed my life--seeing how my friends' mothers dressed (they were all over 50) was transformative. Now that I'm in my 50s, I still think about those women & let them inspire me every single day. This video is a great update to those memories! I'll be watching again and again. Thank you for taking the time to make such a wonderful video.
Are you American, Emily? What state do you 😂in? Fashion is more important in some States than others : New York, Massachusetts, California all love to dress fashionionable.
Good girl Emily, what an attitude! I’m 20 years younger than you and I definitely have your mind set. I really hope that if I manage to get to your age I still feel the same then. I salute you.🌟🇬🇧
Thank you so much for this video. I feel so frustrated sometimes as a North American woman over 50. Fashion here can feel unwelcoming to women over a certain age - like we should be happy disappearing into the background in leggings, oversized tshirts and crocs or droopy tent dresses. You've shown that there's no need to give up on fashion and looking one's best. I loved what you said about it being about self-respect. I'll remember that the next time someone gives me side-eye for wearing a belt & blazer with my jeans and/or accessories I've actually thought about! 😂😂
@@Aliceinparisofficial ❤ Thank you Alice! I think you must be right - but it makes me so sad. I don't dress to make others feel badly about themselves - I'm just expressing my own creativity and trying to feel my best self. I think that if my *belt choices* make them feel bad then there's something wrong that I can't fix for them no matter how *I* dress .....
Born and raised in Belgium in the women’s wear industry for 24 years, I’ve now lived 47 years in western Canada and successfully maintained my European style. Thanks for opening my mind and heart with your video…it’s very inspirational! While menopause and significant health issues caused weight gain, I owe it to myself to again embrace “being my best”…life is way more fun!
Absolutely loved this I'm 60 Marie Anne Lecoeur is a french fashion stylist she also has good videos for over 50 she is also 60 I have got my confidence back and I love dressing like a french women so classy ♥️
This was great. I’m not yet 50 and find this inspiring for organizing my fashion choices. I wear very classic styles. Self respect really does express itself in how we dress.
I haven't seen many stiletto shoes on Parisian or Italian women. They like high-heeled shoes but nothing more than 5-6 cm in height, and I find it very nice and stylish.
Seems like I have been Parisian chic my whole adult life as this is the way I have dressed most of the time😂. Always drawn to Classic, elegant yet simple. I totally agree with your point on self respect. I mostly dress for me, but its’s nice if other people also like what I wear. Last year I got very sick and nearly died. I lost most of my hair along with 20 kg very fast (I was already thin!) and I looked awful. It was so very tempting to give up and go into hiding. In stead I made a point of dressing up as usual for all the Doctor’s appointment and treatments that followed. I didn’t have to but I’m glad I did; that way I managed to keep my self respect along with a long and hard healing prosess. When I look back at the previous year I even think it saved me in many ways. So yes, I agree with not letting yourself go. New subscriber here🤗🇳🇴.
The body type seems to be featured in all the “how to” pics. I think we Americans need to start walking more, get out of the car and leave the Mickey D’s alone.
J'adore cette vidéo, Alice. Loved how all style principles were explained throughly. We've been several times in France to visit family members and always enjoyed to see how French women dress for every ocassion regardless their age. My lovely mother in law who's in shape has strong French ancestry does the same. I'm 46 and always been slim, self conscious of health and well-being also following these style principles being mistaken as a French in several ocassions which is a compliment. So glad to see beautiful Inès de La Fressange, Caroline de Maigret and actress Sophie Marceau among others featured in this video, this is a wonderful example that mature women can look fabulous when they are in good shape, naturally beautiful, well put together and chic. As a former model I'd like to remind all ladies that a good posture is essential. Take good care of yourself and enjoy your chic with self-confidence. Merci beaucoup pour votre conseil formidable. Vous êtes très chic comme toujours. Love from the UK 🇬🇧🤍🇨🇵
thank you excellent i am with you my family live in paris and i agree i wear different than woman in america becuase seen the different stayle i also was buyer for boutique Lanvin and went to a lot of runway show you are right fashion is very important thank you again merci
Wonderful video! I think your points #4 & #5 were the most important. I get the sense that Parisian women don’t freak out about aging. It looks like they adopt a lifestyle of taking care of themselves; eating well, staying active, taking care of their skin, etc., and they embrace aging as a part of life. Also one’s attitude is key. Feeling confident and feeling good about one’s self is always attractive. I think I will buy one of the books you recommend and read more about Parisian style.
they make skincare a priority and don't wear foundation or much other makeup. It's awful seeing so many women just in their 20s now piling on the foundation and heavy eye makeup, it's a waste of their youth
My Parisian dermatologist (Harvard grad) told me to STOP to wear foundation because it damages A LOT the skin. She told me to wear NOTHING on the skin as much as I could or at least the weekend. Needless to say that she is older than me and looks 10 years younger with no wrinkles. She does not wear any make up and don't do fillers (I know and I can tell).....
I see so many young girls destroy there looks with dyed hair in weird colors, heavy make up. I give them a make over in my mind. I don't wear face makeup but I do play up my eyes an wear lipstick. Here in Florida you can't help getting a little tan an glow. I believe in the sun in moderation an of course a natural sunscreen. Makes vitamin D also.
Thank you for this video. I am over 50, Latina and take a cue from Parisian women for my style. I would like to see a video of how Parisian women dress on summer holiday for example in Rome, Barcelona, Greece. I would assume lots of linen, chic sandals or trainers and chic basket tote. I know you would do an excellent job on a video about Parisian women style on holiday. Love Paris and love your videos!
I find that women living in major cities are generally are fit and stylish.. Women living in villages, tend to be a bit larger, but not as over weight as many Americans.
Hi, I really love your video on woman over 50 . I'm going on 63 years old and have really long hair and very little grey but I've got wrinkles and I didn't realize how elegant and style plus little to no makeup came together, it has also been my style thank you 🙏
I love your channel and I love Paris. I am over 50 and have been a fan of INES since I was a young girl. I grew up with her as an icon to emulate. She’s fabulous. I live in the US, I am latina and as a latina we were raised to always dress appropriately, I don’t know how to dress down, unless I am going to the gym. And even then, I have a style. Thank you for your great videos.
I dress in what I like , sometimes skinny jeans sometimes wide leg jeans, trainers converse, adidas and ballet flats, big white shirts and shock horror on holiday bikinis and I’m 80 years 🥹
Some great examples of looking chic over 50! Too many stripes for my personal taste, but I agree that looking good can be achieved with style and not excessive facial fillers!
I think it's easier to look chic over 50 if you're thin and have a good haircut. It also helps if you have good bone structure in your face. Ines de La Fressange and Carla Bruni are tall and thin. They were models. Emmanuel Macron's wife, Brigitte, is very toned and in shape. When Donald Trump first met the Macrons, he commented on what great shape she was in. Isabelle Huppert, the actress, is my idol. She is fairly short (I'm 5'4"), thin, over 70, and very, very chic. Isabelle doesn't wear a lot of makeup and she always looks good. Catherine Deneuve, probably one of the most naturally beautiful women ever, is not really thin, but still very stylish and she carries herself so confidently. I believe she has had a facelift, but she doesn't look weird. Neither does Jane Fonda. But they could afford to have the best surgeons work on them.
Carla Bruno gained a lot of weight during menopause and had to lost it she talked about it. Over 50 taking care of yourself is a lot of work and dedication rather than spend "money". Exactly like affording high quality foods. Yes it costs but not that much you would think and it is more about the effort you put in and not a lot of people are willing to do it
@@Aliceinparisofficial Yes, metabolism slows down and weight becomes redistributed after menopause. And, you lose muscle as you get older. You just can't eat as much as you once did without getting fat. You didn't mention the importance of a good haircut, but I think that is very important. Sometimes good hairdressers cost a lot. You have an excellent haircut and very nice hair. Very flattering. And the color is great.
I think a problem with getting older is less energy to exercise hence weight gain. I'm lucky here in Florida because I can swim all year. Great exercise.
Alice, thank you so much for this video! I was a model in the 60s… and now I am not a model in my 70s. This video reminds me of how truly chic older women act and dress. Here in North America a huge amount of older women go for plastic surgery - and they lose the persona that they have had for decades. It is so sad to see. Our plastic surgeons don’t have the skills to recreate the look of youth, but few seem to understand this. And then, so many older women are dying to look wealthy, whether they are or not. I laugh at Louis Vuitton! 😅
I recall going into Costco with my husband. The fluorescent lights give me migraines. So I was already wearing a dress and sand, especially but I added a large brim hat and sunglasses and the looks I got and compliments… you would think I was on a hot date somewhere. lol yea Americans can get comfy real fast. It is hard do dig out of that. But a nice hat or scarf or purse and you suddenly elevate.
Would appreciate information on how Parisian women dress on vacation especially in warm weather. I live in Southeastern United States where it’s hot and humid. Next year we are going on holiday in New Zealand and Australia and wondering what I should pack. Thanks! Love your videos!
I also want to say as a women over 50 as a whole it seems in last 20 year's women are more sloppy casual. I won't go to a grocery store without being put together an the only thing I do with tee shirts is sleep in them. Great video!!
Thank you Alice, I love your channel. I am no fashion icon but I try to look polished as much as possible. I wish I was taller though, elegant women seem to be taller, usually 5' 7" or more. I am 5' 2". I feel it's nice but the height is so much more eye candy. This said, I am what I am, I just want my children to be proud of me when I am introduced or at a function with them and the their friends. I will continue to watch and learn :) xx
I am 77 and always try to look polished......even when walking the dog....it does help that sneakers are OK 😂 I, too have always loved Ines......although my waistline is much thicker now I have managed to find things that are not frumpy..... but it is a challenge!
My Swedish mother-in-law always put on makeup and jewelry and never left the house without her lipstick. She always took care of her self way into her nineties. 😊
I really enjoy going back to France sometimes just to look at women´s style (compared to Northern Europe for instance), even my 70 years old mum getting dressed up with all her matching accessories just to stay home :D It´s cultural for sure...But the silhouette is the main thing really...stay as slim as you can and everything will fit.
Thank you cherie Alice wish I had this video when I was your age. Ingrid from California, age 67. Plz show some more meal videos. I don’t follow fashion anymore, not attempting to look trendy, just myself. God bless you Alice. Ps tell me “age is just a number when you get to be 67”
The vast majority of the elegance is being slim. Though Parisienne women are not obsessed with thinness as you see in LA and NYC, they are rarely overweight and almost never obese. The US, even the big cities, ppl are just so much more overweight. Even the UES last time I was in NYC, was shocking. More than half the women were overweight and if we are honest, looking elegant is nearly impossible because you have to adapt the elan of Paris for the body shape. The Breton is parfait but you can’t wear it well if you are an apple shape. 😢My time in Paris as a grad student was the single biggest influence on my style of anything in my life. But NYC was influential back then too, as was London. Not any more. .
I’m 55 and don’t dye my shoulder length salt-and-pepper curly hair. I love the freedom of not covering gray and will never give that up. I feel I do stand out in France, though, especially in Paris. I hardly ever see women my age in Paris letting their beautiful silver hair shine loud and proud.
I too have curly salt and pepper shoulder length curls. I'm 60 and get compliments on my hair almost every day. I agree in Europe not many women let their hair age naturally. I think over dyed hair looks so fake. Just my opinion
I sadly get the feeling in France that covering grays is seen as taking proper care of yourself as you age or not “letting yourself go.” For women at least
Bonjour I don't see many Parisian women over 50 wearing their grey hair. I go to my hairdresser once a week and I am surrounded by beautiful chic Parisian women over 50 ( I am probably the youngest in this place) but It is very very generational. It is not common in Paris even more trendy than 10 years ago
It's sad that you use an older woman that is a little heavier weight to show the bad outdated look. I know there are women that look fabulous and modern that have white hair and that are not skinny in paris. I wish you would show more of those as well
I would love for you to talk about how French women age gracefully, for example, do they embrace getting grey hair? How do they transition to having grey hair and ageing? Do they colour their hair like a lot of women in modern society?
Over and over again, as I see it, the difference comes down to urban vs rural/city vs country. In the bigger US cities, women dress more like Parisians do, perhaps not with French- or Italian-made pieces, which I do think are chic and well made. Los Angeles and Miami seem to favor flashier, edgier clothes for all ages, while NY and Chicago are quieter and more conservative. The rest comes down to individual good or bad taste. Too many logos, silly prints and lurid colors, too much cheap jewelry are just poor taste and style, imho.
Where you live and do your daily life really dictates my life. For a time we lived in rural MN doing kids, school bus stops and mowing lawns or shuffling snow. Other times the remote village in the mountains, its means, explore the woods, sweatshirts. Arizona was a Sweet and hot. I think it is so much easier to be simple elegant in warmer living conditions. I’m up in rain country now and my age I am always not. I would live a day in a sweater or blazer before I ended up ripping it off in overheating. I do love this channel, I just found it. I love a chic elegant look but I also love a good loose flower dress that begs to be swirled around.
@@NorahLacey I think you want Alice or others to respond to this, but since you put it after my comment, I will tell you my opinion. I think Mme. Macron dresses beautifully. My only suggestion is that she minimize the shoulder pads because she seems to have a short neck and wears should length hair so her necks seems to disappear. I would wear suits, tops, dresses that elongate the appearance of her neck.
I never liked to wear designer names all over me. Some women look like Christmas trees and that is not elegant at all. I am 77 and enjoy watching your videos. Thank you for covering fashion for vibrant women like all of us
Alice, a TERRIFIC vid!! Thank you! I am well over 50, love fashion, now of very modest means but refuse to dress " 50, fat & frumpy"! It's sometimes hard work but so much fun!

And you were only in a Costco imagine the compliments you would have got in Macy's. Lol
Excellent video. Great examples. ❤
So interesting this video for over 50, look younger by style. Great!
I know the French woman Marie-Anne LeCoeur is over 50 and she looks fabulous!,
I think Marie-Anne has her hair dyed way too dark for her fair skin. It really ages her. She does have great style though.
@@TheSwimmom1 her hair colour varies a bit
Marie Anne is really, really nice❤
They always have the little smile and the eyes are shining too
Thank you! It was very interesting and inspiring.
Would appreciate information on how Parisian women dress on vacation especially in warm weather. I live in Southeastern United States where it’s hot and humid. Next year we are going on holiday in New Zealand and Australia and wondering what I should pack. Thanks! Love your videos!
grazie, Alice, for the affirming video!
I also want to say as a women over 50 as a whole it seems in last 20 year's women are more sloppy casual. I won't go to a grocery store without being put together an the only thing I do with tee shirts is sleep in them. Great video!!
agreed. Looking sloppy and mediocre is the norm but people don't realize the benefit to look well put together
@@Aliceinparisofficial I get a lot of smiles. Well worth it.
I just found your Chanel and have been inspired. Thank you
I am 77 and always try to look polished......even when walking the dog....it does help that sneakers are OK 😂 I, too have always loved Ines......although my waistline is much thicker now I have managed to find things that are not frumpy..... but it is a challenge!
I loved this video so much!!❤
You are amazing!Love from Crete, Greece!
Hi Alice love! love! this video. Thanks for this ♥
Timeless elegance, great informative video. Thank you
GREAT AS ALWAYS ALICE!!!!
MERCI!!!!
LOVE TO YOU AND NAPO, PLUS PETS TO YOUR PRECIOUS DOG!!!!!!!❤
I didn’t see any fat person in your video. To be in shape, this is the #1 secret.
Thank you for the video
You forgot that Parisian women are slim and not obese
Yes good point. So many American women over 50 are fat. I think you can still look nice but tight jeans, waist showing not hidden is for the slim.
I love Innes too. Have that book, it is great to pick up anytime and read. Great video. Thanks Alice 😊
Somehow I prefer Italian style
My Swedish mother-in-law always put on makeup and jewelry and never left the house without her lipstick. She always took care of her self way into her nineties. 😊
I needed this so bad. Thank you, this is a must .We plan to go to Paris next year this year, the Caribbean islands.
Excellent video! ❤
Alice great video 🙏 thank you, more like this pls. I am interested of haircuts and color of hair. yes or not after 50..😊
I really enjoy going back to France sometimes just to look at women´s style (compared to Northern Europe for instance), even my 70 years old mum getting dressed up with all her matching accessories just to stay home :D It´s cultural for sure...But the silhouette is the main thing really...stay as slim as you can and everything will fit.
Good heavens, how many times can one say "over 50"?. The wardrobe, gorgeous
One thing that strikes about women in the video is they are very slim. That's 80% of their appeal. On slim bodies most things look good.
Not any more.
.
yes being overweight is ageing both visually and health wise
To translate, UES = Upper East Side, a wealthy enclave of Manhattan.
Excellent video!!! You nailed it. ❤
It's sad that you use an older woman that is a little heavier weight to show the bad outdated look. I know there are women that look fabulous and modern that have white hair and that are not skinny in paris. I wish you would show more of those as well
I think wearing large prints is ageing.I prefer plain colours with the occasional stripe or prince of wales check. I avoid florals as a rule.
yes the secret to florals and prints is to keep them small and to have no more than 3 colours in the print
Love this video ! Please do more like this❤❤❤❤
Great video ❤
Excellent video! I'm almost 50.
Fantastic advice ! Merci ❤
Amazing how Parisian women don’t gain weighr😮 you can look like this if you are a size 6❤
Yes madam these outfits suit all ages❤
I would love for you to talk about how French women age gracefully, for example, do they embrace getting grey hair? How do they transition to having grey hair and ageing? Do they colour their hair like a lot of women in modern society?
no, they don´t embrace grey hair (not before like 75 at least...) and don´t embrace getting fat either (even with menopause hormonal issues..)
Loved this! ❤
Loved this video, Alice. I'd love to see more on this theme.
parisian style over 50? or smething related?
@@Aliceinparisofficial yes.
Arizona was a
Sweet and hot.
Does Madame Macron typify a well dressed Parisian woman of a certain class and age
The styles shown do not look any different from styles just about anywhere. One can find that look in many cultures and parts of the world.
I never liked to wear designer names all over me. Some women look like Christmas trees and that is not elegant at all. I am 77 and enjoy watching your videos. Thank you for covering fashion for vibrant women like all of us
Loved this video!
Well made and quality materials.
Alice, a TERRIFIC vid!! Thank you! I am well over 50, love fashion, now of very modest means but refuse to dress " 50, fat & frumpy"! It's sometimes hard work but so much fun!
Loved this video !! Merci 😘😘
Toujours Inès !
It's like Milan, Italy
Excellent, thank you x
Thank you for this
Inès ❤
Could you Mae the same video for Wien over 50 who are overweight?
Ines est géniale et très sympathique !
Another French woman's secret that I realized to dress well is to be thin. That makes all the difference.
Can you do a video for women over 50 who don’t suit classic clothes? I suit flowing fabrics if you need a place to start.
you can still do flowing fabrics in classic styles. See the video channel by Marie Anne Lecoeur
I love the information ~ especially about self respect! I don’t care for the gigantic oversized coats and outfits. They are very obvious & distracting from the lovely women. This could be an older video though. ❤
