Getting in to 40k was no accident! Really it all began at school when a friend of mine brought in his 40k Rule Book and I was inspired by what I saw! I've been into the wargames hobby in general now for years and really enjoy it! I guess the good thing about wargames is the fact you can fight it out with your opponent on the wargames table without the worry of personal injury to yourself - well most of the time anyway! (I'm not exactly a body builder size wise)!

A tremendous fight to the death between two blood thirsty armies, I was happy to see the Blood Angels prevail!
When resolving multi-damage attacks against squads of multi-wound models you should roll the damage one at a time as it is possible to "waste" damage on a model that is already injured. At 56:12 if you had rolled the damage one at a time, one of the oblits could have been alive on 1 or 2 wounds. Unlikely he would have survived the axes that had yet to swing, but possible.

Yes, Blood Angels again. Awesome game guys and both armies and the board looked superb. Glad the Sanguinor got to get into the action I thought he was just going to get shot off the board at one point but he can certainly kicks ass once he gets in. Can't wait to see the finished list when you finally decide which way to go. Cheers.

Best Batrep in a long time. Some truly epic moments.(I can't deny I was rooting for that sternguard sergeant to take out that last raptor) Nice job using the sanguinary priest to heal up the Sanguinor ("Here you go matey have a swig of this"*Offers red grail*) and supercharged by the blood of sanguinius he jumps over the termies and gives that sorcerer that shot him with a daemon bullet the business end of his sword. That last raptor thinking, "Screw this I'm outta here". Dready hunting cultists("Come here little heretic" booming out of the vox) Truly epic.
The Centurion to Obliterator conversion makes me so happy. It's beautiful.

Great game that ebbed and flowed with some great moments. Raptors ongoing melee and sanguinors revenge on the sorcerer were great. Red thirst is so good for killing vehicles!

You can not reroll the hits of 3 with the thunder hammer. You have to apply the modifier after the reroll

Great video, glad to finally see someone win with the Blood Angels.
The blood angels player made a pretty big tactical blunder but it wasn’t capitalized on. The night lords guy should have surrounded the storm raven preventing it from dropping its troops at the minimum, or destroying it completely causing them all to die this completely neutering the blood angels army.
phaseadept78 they only die on a roll of 1. But have to agree that a 2 wound Stormraven full of passengers was an opportunity missed.
Ben Pinches they all die if they're unable to disembark when the transport dies, i.e. if it's surrounded. And if it doesn't die, they can't get out. Not sure if that was really feasible for the Night Lords, but that's what we're getting at.
Andrew Heywood Yes! A good point! But yeah i don't think it could have been done. Unless some deep striking night lord termies had got to grips with it? They would have walked through the overwatch quite happily. Glad that didn't happen!

Wonderful game! The combat between the raptors and death company was the highlight for me. With all the units joining in, I bet they forgot how it all started! I only wish the second sternguard sergeant had made it over there to avenge his brother!

Beautiful armies on both sides, fantastic table and an overall very enjoyable game! As always, the rule thingies I spotted:
Heroic Intervention happens at the end of the charge phase, not when units would normally be activated. It didn't matter in turn 2, because the Chaos characters didn't intervene, but you should keep that in mind for future games.
Order of operations with rerolls/modifieres was not taken into account in some cases. The Hammernators cannot reroll 3s, because they would be hits on their WS and the unwieldy modifier happens after the reroll.
Death to the False Emperor is normally a thing. In your game it wasn't so much ;)
Also, I never know how to treat cover in 8th. Seems to me you're doing it similar to 7th. Do you have a house rule for that? Or am I missing some rules with intervening terrain and stuff?
GeeKAdemics also a note on the heroic intervention, with the way the models were situated in T2, the character would not have been able to get within an inch of the charging unit using the 3" move as his own models were in the way, even though he had a JP to move over models.
Cover wise the rules state you must be in the cover to receive a bonus, being obscured doesnt affect infantry. Vehicles also must be in the cover and obscured to receive a bonus. I'm guessing these guys house rule it.
They use house rules for cover saves. Units have to be in area terrain to get the cover saves.
i played a couple games with predators, try to play 4 for one time just with heavy bolters, autocannons and stormbolters and stratagem... you will love them. Rerolls are good but not necessary for them to kill something :)

in the charge phase that I noticed you got a rule wrong and that is that Heroic intervention occurs at the end of the charge phase, so character can’t intervene in the middle of the fight phase

Currently watching the battle report, and am interested to see how it plays out. The only thing I worry about with the Blood Angels is the lack of bodies and Command Points. I generally don't bother with the Veritas Vitae since it has been incredibly unreliable for me. If you have the models for it, give this list a try. It has worked wonders for me.

Even with 2 relics, it gives you 9 Command Points to play with. It has 4 sources of Deny the Witch, and makes shooting at the Devastators painful for the enemy with the 5+ Feel No Pain and the 4+ chance to shoot with them as they die. I haven't been using Sanguinary Guard because they are just too expensive for my tastes. Very little survives against the Death Company's charge with Lemartes backing them up, Unleash Rage, and the Librarian shutting off Overwatch.

It has performed admirably well if I do my part. The Devastator/Relic Banner/Captain/LT castle in the back is surprisingly durable and can hold it's own if the front lines are breached.

What's the music?
If you want to make Sanguinary Guard better than swap the encarmine sword for a power fist. It costs the same but will do a LOT more damage. You lose a -1 to hit, but you gain +2 to wound. Against a normal terminator you now wound on a 1+ with red thirst. You hit on a 4+ instead of a 3+, BUT you get to re-roll all misses.
This is what the math looks like for the squad of 8 Sanguinary Guard (with sanguinor) attacking a normal terminator squad:
8 Guard x 4 attacks each (2 base +1 for charge + 1 sanguinor aura) = 32 attacks. To hit is a 4+ for power fist and 3+ for the sword. To wound on a 1+ for power fist and 3+ for the sword:
Power Fist number of wounds : 32*(0.5+(0.5*0.5))*(1)=24 wounds (invulnerable save on a 5+) reduces it to 16 WOUNDS (each does an average of 2 damage)
Encarmine Sword number of wounds: 32*(0.6666+(0.6666*0.3333))*(0.6666)=18.96 (invulnerable save on a 5+) reduced to 12.6 wounds
Wounds all deal the same damage of 1d3 (average 2 damage), and both weapons cost exactly the same points (+12 points). so for ZERO points you can upgrade your single turn damage by about 3.5 wounds and 7 total damage.

Great video, always enjoy the little bits of story you make out of the events of the game. One small issue I have is that you often roll to wound into dice left on the table from when you rolled to hit. Not an issue when playing with people you know but it seems like a bad habit to have when playing with people who don't know you enough to trust you.

These batreps would be much better without your "house rule".It clearly states in the book:a non infantry unit is in cover if sits partially in cover and it is more than 50% obscured.Also ,if the night lords player used Veterans of the old war on his obliterators he would have been able to pop both predators easyly and preserve the shots from the chaos predator do deal with the stormraven.
No, it states somewhat roundabout in an FAQ, which hasn't even been reflected in the rest of the rules. It was a terrible, poorly thought out rules change for cover saves, and what it is part of the rules, I'd not begrudge anyone for ignoring it.

It's not tournament play between a million players. If they want to change the rules, they can change the rules.
I need to agree with Raducu lonut about this one. Lots of people do view battlereports to learn the game aswell and with the houserules it gives a missguided view on the rules that are played. I would atleast mention that this is houserules that is played with the terrain and coversaves. Great battlereport otherwise.
Luke stated several times "that's just the way we're playing it" when giving them cover saves for intervening cover. Maybe not the clearest, but he did try. Of course, I like the change; makes positioning somewhat more relevant.
Brian was there a reaso you didn't use veterans of the long war? Would really have saved your bacon a couple oftimes.

@StrikingScorpion82 why did you not use Auspex Scan when he deepstriked in his turn 1? You could've completely denied him that smite, or at the very least took down the raptors
Im pretty sure u can only use auspex scan on infantry units eg the sternguard so it wouldnt be worth it
Epic! As I read through the cutscenes of this battle report, it occurred to me how badass these would be with voice over. If you need voice acting work, I'd love to volunteer! I'm an amateur at best, but I've DM'd a fair bit of D&D...& I'd do it for free!

The Blood Angels are so awesome now. Super thematic, super fun and can be made very competitive. Scorp you need to try out the "Slamguinius" Captain loadout and you should try to run a double batallion minimum for CPs when playing BAs.

Power fists are the way to go for sang guard, cheapest and strongest weapon, the -1 to hit is compensated for by wounding everything up to t8 on 2s and having ap-3, easy best pick over swords or axes
Max kennedy mix of swords and fists for me. Swords still better against low toughness, so if you're fighting Eldar or Guard they are well worth having, and to keep it wysiwyg you kind of need a mixture. Good call on axes though, nor much use and very costly!
Ben Pinches Hmm yeah fair point swords aren’t that much more and with a low chance of pulling of a first turn charge with the sanguinor/Chaplin w/ jump pack to give rerolls to the sanguinary guard you decent of angles’d the +1 to hit i can see being welcome, its just the fact you can smash tanks to scrap first turn along with anything else just makes fists best

At 1:09:26 Bryan rolls to wound with a bit of lichen.
@41:50 the sanguinary guard are way to close to the baal predator to deepstrike in that location.
I reckon one of the better ways to use death company is to put them in the raven instead with the chaplain and sanguinor with librarian dread. The dread gives em the +1 attack power as does the sanguinor so they run at you with 5 attacks each with axes hitting on 3s rerolling wounding on 2s against anything toughness 4 or less and you just smash whatever you hit. Then you pile into another unit and use the stratagem to fight again. Very Scary.

Yes, that is its Imperial terminology for its armament pattern. The other two are Destructor predators. Just like a standard Landraider is refered to as a God Hammer pattern.

Proper job! Great game to watch, lovely armies. Blood Angels finally winning, and being fairly clinical about it in-spite of the unfinished list, great stuff!...
...again we had the embarrassment of the Sanguinor being left behind on the drop however (Blood Angels characters with jump packs should have gotten a reroll to charge range in the Codex imo...)...Shouldn’t you have strung out the Guard to keep the unit within 6” to get the plus one attack each and heirs reroll when they first charged?...
The Night Lords terminators with all meltas must have been expensive but were really effective on the drop - you could have that too if you just gave the Guard all Plasma Pistols (maybe keeping a couple of Infernos)...you should think about a couple of Power Fists for them too incase you come up against vehicles as your target for their charge...
The Furioso did really well, definitely needs the Stormraven transport to be really effective though. Always wonder if a Death Company Dread with two heavy flamers is as good if not better with is black rage and 6” consolidation...
I hope in the new list there are points for Hurricane Bolters on the Stormraven, they would have really helped out in each game you’ve used it in...Stormraven maybe MVP this game imo, you used it really well!
Death Company FNP should be 5+ imo, they still aren’t as good as they should be at all, especially since they are not fearless either - which is ridiculous - as you showed in this game with the squad wiping itself out due to morale...having another decent combat unit in the new list besides the Guard and Terminators may be useful for back field and post Guard drop situations, as the Sternguard and DC showed this game...decisions decisions...

Per RAW vehicles only receive the benefit of cover if they are entirely within cover AND 50% obscured
Choose deployment as Hammer & Anvil? You have to roll off in matched play. You don't get a cover bonus to vehicles unless in cover and 50% obscured.
I think winner of roll-off chooses zone? We did do that:) We house ruled cover lol:)
Why didn´t you leave one sanguinary guard behind so that the whole unit would benefit from the Sanguinor´s Aura plus their full re-rolls?
They can all still fight too, 0.9" + 0.9" + 2 x 1.6" bases = 5" from the enemy model to the back of a base. Assuming the sanguinor is 9" away from the enemy, that puts him easily in buff range of a dude who's within an inch of a dude who's within an inch.

Using BA fearless trait vs night lords is pretty rude, but playing Blood Angels without a battalion is pretty friendly.

I feel like intercessors would have been more effective than the Sternguard, you get twice as many wounds and only lose out on 1 AP.

I appreciate your style in some regard Luke, but in others less so. Your boards are always lovely, the quality of painting is excellent, the fluff touches are appreciated, and the lack of forced joviality is always a plus. The downsides however are the annoying house rules and cocked/not cocked due to the debris on the table. It is confusing for any new player to see how you interpret the rules for dramatic affect, and for people who know the rules; it may come across as deliberate gamesmanship from you to change the rules when it benefits you and not so much the other player.
Thanks for the comments. Any house rules have been mutually agreed upon by both players. But anyway...our house rule for cover is gone...we playing the official way now:)
People are under estimating the Blood Angels.
Darrel Stevens bound to happen when less than half of the BA players know how to actually use the new charge phase rules to disrupt the enemy.

nightlords warlord trait came into play **ONCE** in this entire battle. with how much of this game is quasi immune to morale it's just ridiculous to think their morale based legion trait is such crap.
Lace the report but really think you need to pan the cam out a bit more... hard to get idea of the whole battle when having to look at 1 tiny area at a time. Occasional overview would be nice.

Missing Death to the False Emperor.
You are using power swords wrong - each is d3 damage, but should be rolled one after another and allocated. Not summed up and every wound passed on target. Imagine that You have rolled in order 2D, 3D, 1D against 2 models with 3 wound each. With Your method 2 will die but it should be only 1 dead and the second one would lose 1W.
