So... There's five or six crusades, and each has an Armor of Faith and a black Sword? What happens when a crusade splinters into smaller and smaller fragments, as seems to be the usual way of things; Are those splinters allowed to come up with replacement rituals? I've been theory crafting the 573rd Crusade (third splinter of the seventh fragment of the fifth crusade), who obviously do have neither Armor of Faith nor Black Sword nor a remit to nominate a full-blown Emperor's Champion; could they nominate a Champion on the eve of battle for each battle, so that there wouldn't be a merge conflict when they get back to the mothership? And instead the items that this crusade doesn't have, he'd get, err... a rosarius, that's 4+ invul too, and... some power sword of the champion's choosing... That'd also make more sense than readjusting a dedicated power armor to a new marine each battle... Opinions? I could also tell you the tale of how the 573rd crusade revised its heraldic code, if that interests you.

Only a proper friend of an astartes can even hope to say such a thing and get away with it. Sort of like how Legolas is able to mock Gimli for his height.
@@kerbe3 Hmm, not likely that the friend would get away with his life. Accepting someone from outside the chapter to such a high rank (so to speak) as to be allowed to call an Astartes 'friend' means that the battle brother will stand in with his reputation and honour for the outsider. The friend stating something like the above would betray the trust and honour of the marine. Aside from disgracing the chapter and every last member of it. When Balder said that he wrote that piece in the beginning I honestly was taken aback, it sounds as good if not better than something that would come from a Black Library author. Well done, our faithful Servant.

The scent of incense drifted from the burning braziers across the plains before the fortress. He had kept his vigil through the chill night, till the crimson sun rose above Daronch and bathed the plains in bloody dawn. Like the spreading of great wings… A crimson angel, bearing the Emperor’s light in one hand, and death in the other. Her wings, burning sanguine glory, casting long dark shadows. Destiny turns about her. The Emperor spoke to him in visions such as these. On the eve of battle, at the moment of truth, He spoke. It had been so for the past five years of the Edioch Crusade. Cenric had fought for its forty-seven years, from neophyte to initiate… before he had been chosen, raised up as the Emperor’s Champion. Battle-brothers who had once stood shoulder to shoulder with him now looked to him in awe. Chaplains and Marshals clamoured for his guidance. Cenric ceased his prayer and rose to his feet. He checked the chains about his wrist, ensuring that they held tight to the shackled glory of the Black Sword, tracing his fingers along their links to the words etched onto the obsidian hilt. His name was engraved there, a binding the strongest chain could not match. He had not yet raised the blade in martial struggle, but soon. Soon it would taste blood and know battle. He would wield it as Sigismund had once wielded it, when he’d faced down the traitors before the Palace walls, when he had stood his long vigil before the gates of hell. Theirs was the legacy of heroes, the blood of crusaders. This is eternal, this duty. We cannot, will not, shirk from it. The mantra was like iron, a core of determination grounding his thoughts. He passed through the ranks of his brothers, where they knelt in obeisance before the Chaplains. Skull-faced warriors smeared ashen crosses upon the brows of the Templars, or flicked oil from sacred aspergills. Servitors stalked the ranks, their arms replaced by swaying auto-censers. This was war at its most sacred, its most perfect. ‘Brother!’ The voice rang out across the plain, like the hammer of inevitable artillery. Marshal Adelbert looked at him with muted concern. The warrior was unhelmed, his dark skin like carved wood beneath the beating sun. He was crowned with a simple circlet of bronze, the smooth metal riveted into his skull as a symbol of office. His armour was battered, lacking the true grandeur owed to him. At his side stood a neophyte, Baldwin, if Cenric was not mistaken, bearing the crusade banner. It fluttered in the wind, bathing the Marshal in its tattered shadow. ‘Does He speak, Brother Cenric? Does the God-Emperor bless this holy undertaking?’ Cenric nodded. ‘The Emperor speaks in His tongue of fire, scouring the unworthy and girding the faithful.’ ‘Glorious,’ Adelbert rumbled. He did not pry; he did not have to. Faith was its own reward. ‘He has spoken, and all that remains is for you to be the edge of His blade, His Champion.’ He placed his hand upon Cenric’s shoulder and leant in. ‘I know your pain, brother. The galaxy burns, and we fight alone. Unsupported. Ailing. Some would have me send word to the Helicos Crusade, to meld our strength.’ He shook his head, and Cenric could see the weight of his centuries of service press upon him. ‘While there is yet might in my body, we shall continue to do the Emperor’s work. The sons of Dorn do not turn from sacrifice. That is how the eternal crusade has endured, these millennia. That is how we have survived our own half a century of battle.’ ‘The Reclusiarch stepped back to the altar as each Templar took deep breaths of the chemical-laden smoke, their lungs filling with the secrets encoded into its molecular arrangement. Only the genesmiths of the Eternal Crusader knew the origin of the incense, and only by their strange alchemy could it be rendered. Kul Gilad studied the men before him, each one shaped by thousands of years of history and lost arts of genetics. The best and bravest of the Imperium, the strength and honour of the past was carved into their very marrow. The fearful losses at Dantium had shaken them to their core, but this Crusade would be a chance for them to regain their honour, to prove their worth to the High Marshal once again and shake off the ill-temper that had settled upon them all. This deployment alongside the Adeptus Mechanicus was not punishment nor penance, but redemption. Ghostly images of mighty warriors shimmered at the edges of Kul Gilad’s vision, but he ignored them, knowing them for the narcotic phantoms they were. He would never again be touched by the visions, but one among his warriors would certainly feel the power of the Golden Throne moving within him. Who would be touched by the Emperor’s presence, he could not know, for none could fathom the complexities and subtle nuances of His will. Kul Gilad searched each man’s face for any sign of a reaction to the fugue-inducing mist, but he could see nothing beyond their stoic determination to commence this latest crusade into the unknown and reclaim their honour. When it began, it began suddenly. Varda rose to his feet, reaching out to something only he could see. His eyes were wide and his jaw fell open in wonderment. Tears ran down his cheeks as he wept at a sight of rapture or terror. Varda took a faltering step towards the altar, his hand grasping for something just out of reach. ‘I see...’ said Varda. ‘Its beauty is terrible... I know... I know what I must do.’ ‘What must you do?’ asked Kul Gilad. ‘Slay those who have given insult to the Emperor,’ said Varda, his voice betraying a dreamlike quality to its tone. ‘I need to kill them all, to bathe my blade in the blood of the unclean. Where is my sword? Where is my armour...?’ ‘They are here,’ answered Kul Gilad, pleased that it should be Varda who was chosen. He nodded to the figures lurking in the cloisters and they came forwards in pairs, one bearing a shard of battle-plate, the other empty-handed. They surrounded Varda, and piece by piece, stripped him of his armour until he stood only in his grey bodyglove. Even bereft of his power armour, the strength of his body was palpable. And as they had divested him of his old armour, now the figures attired him in his new warplate. As each portion of the gilded and artificer-wrought armour was fastened to his body, it seemed that Varda grew to fill its contours, as though it had been fashioned for him and him alone. At last he was clad head to foot in the ancient Armour of Faith, and all that remained to be fitted was his own ivory-wreathed helm. Varda reached up and slid the helmet over his head, clicking it into place and holding out his hands in expectation. ‘Arm him,’ said Kul Gilad, and the neophyte at his side moved to stand before the dazed warrior. Varda took a step towards the boy, who backed away in fear. ‘Quickly, boy! Give him the sword,’ snapped Kul Gilad. It was not unknown for a warrior in such a fugue state to slay any who came near him, believing them to be his enemies. Only the sword would bring them to their senses. The neophyte held the midnight scabbard out to Varda, who let out a shuddering breath as he knelt before the youngster. He cocked his head to the side as though seeing something more than a mere sword. ‘Give it to me,’ he said, and the neophyte held the scabbard out, hilt-first. Varda drew the sword, its eternally sharp blade utterly black and etched along its length with filigreed lettering in the curling gothic script of the Imperium. Its blade was long and heavy beyond the means of any mortal soldier to bear, the handle long enough to allow it to be wielded by one or two hands. Kul Gilad approached Varda and took hold of the dangling chain. He wrapped it around Varda’s wrist and fastened the fetter to his gauntlet. ‘The Black Sword is yours,’ said Kul Gilad. ‘It can never be loosed, never surrendered and never be sheathed without blood first being shed. Only in death will it pass to another.’ Kul Gilad placed his hand on Varda’s helmet. ‘Rise, Emperor’s Champion,’ he said…’
Damn this was a good one. I actually had to pause the video because you drew me in with more blacktemplar story. Maybe a collaboration with Lord baldermort is in order?
I'm not a Warhammer player but I'm a huge fan of the lore and history behind it. Thanks in large part to you Baldermort. Never have I been so entranced by a person's voice and ability to tell such detailed and fascinating stories. Guess that actually makes me more of a Baldermort fan boy than a 40k fan. Your voice and ability is truly a gift from God. Thank you for all the work and effort you put into this endeavor. May the Emperor protect.
I just started chanting, Sigismund, Sigismund SIGISMUND from the moment they took his helmet off, and then the text in the end, just a perfect way to convey it, since it would have been cheesy to say it out loud,
Some Inquisitors have tried to make a census of them, probably deeming it the only truly lethal bullet for a case against the Black Templars. These inquisitors had... unfortunate mishaps.
The Emperor's Champion was one of the first models I saw that really sold me on Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000. A beautiful work, and damn awesome to imagine striding across the field. Even though I didn't end up taking up Space Marines (I serve the Great Devourer), I always thought how much of a fine, understated centerpiece the Emperor's Champion would be for an army. The story and interaction between the Barbon and the Inquisitor at the end was very well done. Didn't tear tears from my eyes, but it was remarkably warm and fitting for such a lasting friendship. Well done, Baldermort.

Just painting my indomitus box marines as black templars. After that i've got a box of firstborn assault marines that i got for my b-day to paint :D i guess i can learn the rules when all that is done ^^
I was sooo going to go BT for my indomitus boxes. Then I realized I just qwould not be able to concentrate on them. So am considering adding them to my BA instead. A shame, but an army grows too fast if you let it. Better to have a huge BA army I reckoned. But I am soooo jealous you have them done. Not even base sprayed mine yet! (Time and weather) Curses! :)

Like a time traveler, observing the past with popcorn and tea. After finishing almost all his videos, I rewatch when I am curious about anything, and I find hidden jewels like Easter eggs in an old favorite video game. Thanks baldermort!
Those last 9 minutes, it makes my eyes swell with a pair of tears. The outrage, the anger, the hurt, and the sorrow. The desperate pleas for understanding, the worry, the bittersweet acceptance of what could be and of the separation of two friends, two brothers-of-circumstance. In a nostalgic remembrance, at last an olde weight is lifted off, with a new odyssey come

Wonderful job of creating what the old inquisitor would have sounded like when he was young! And the disdain he had to endure from his superior, too. Wow. And now the young man is old and grouchy, but shows the kindness he never received himself.
His tales are insanely good. I'm a new young man that passed by the channel adviced by Majorkill, and truly a grateful discovery this channel was. You have my subscription. Your content deserves all the support it needs to carry you on into making more of this amazing storytelling. Warhammer gains a lot when the immersion is on point, and by the fairness of the emperor this is.

That is how we have survived our own half a century of battle.’
‘The Reclusiarch stepped back to the altar as each Templar took deep breaths of the chemical-laden smoke, their lungs filling with the secrets encoded into its molecular arrangement.
I know... I know what I must do.’
‘What must you do?’ asked Kul Gilad.
‘Slay those who have given insult to the Emperor,’ said Varda, his voice betraying a dreamlike quality to its tone.
‘I need to kill them all, to bathe my blade in the blood of the unclean. Where is my sword? Where is my armour...?’
‘They are here,’ answered Kul Gilad, pleased that it should be Varda who was chosen.
‘Rise, Emperor’s Champion,’ he said…’
Hello there
Perhaps I’ll just read out your comments one day. ;).
@@Baldermort
I'm suffocating from laughter,
good one, sir
The level of detail is fucking amazing wtf?
Damn this was a good one. I actually had to pause the video because you drew me in with more blacktemplar story. Maybe a collaboration with Lord baldermort is in order?
You underestimate how much rope we have!
And thank you for listening at all brother. A lot!!! :)
How, in The Emperor's name, are there any dislikes at all on the video?! This has been truly magnificent...
Black templars are awesomeness, pure awesomeness.
Was so engrossed in the story I had to close my eyes, just listen and enjoy.
I just started chanting, Sigismund, Sigismund SIGISMUND from the moment they took his helmet off, and then the text in the end, just a perfect way to convey it, since it would have been cheesy to say it out loud,
If they weren’t so effective as a fighting force I would have had their chapter censored for deviating from the codex in such a radical manner.
dose the codex sport this action
We still you it my lord. We wipe are asses with it
You can try.
Some Inquisitors have tried to make a census of them, probably deeming it the only truly lethal bullet for a case against the Black Templars. These inquisitors had... unfortunate mishaps.
Lord regent, please find corax..
NO PITY! NO REMORSE! NO FEAR!
NO CHILL!
I love despite how much they hate each other they some how manages to issue a duel and it was a duel nonetheless with little interference.
Blessed art they who don the armor of faith.
Blessed art they who wieldeth the black blade.

-The Litany of the Emperor's Champion, Verses V-XI
Your "little tales" are some of the best 40k writing there is! The Black Library should be compiling your work to educate future generations of loyalists!
It sounds a lot better than it reads. Trust me. I have to read this stuff. :). But thank you. A lot. :) :) :)
Just painting my indomitus box marines as black templars. After that i've got a box of firstborn assault marines that i got for my b-day to paint :D
i guess i can learn the rules when all that is done ^^
I was sooo going to go BT for my indomitus boxes. Then I realized I just qwould not be able to concentrate on them. So am considering adding them to my BA instead. A shame, but an army grows too fast if you let it. Better to have a huge BA army I reckoned. But I am soooo jealous you have them done. Not even base sprayed mine yet! (Time and weather) Curses! :)
@@Baldermort BT were my favourite "chapter" and when I saw that indomitus was primarily melee focused i was instantly sold. Luckily here in croatia it was fairly easy to get the box from my local gaming store, so i didn't have to bother with fighting a horde of players to get one ^^
I'll post pics on your fb page when they're done. I'm trying to go for gritty/dirty/battle worn look for the first time, so it might take a while :D
I think that story is now my favorite of all of them. A position previously held by the one at the beginning of your Adepta Sororitas video. Hail loremaster Baldermort!
This was an amazing episode and clever twist, I like it.
Thanks boss. :)
"Fall in neophyte! We're going crusading!"-Emperor's Champion Tanak Vaul, to new Black Templar.
The confrontation between Thadeus and Barbon was shocking, well written and expertly narrated especially, another entry masterfully executed.
I have been waiting for this day with baited breath . now we can have a lovely video on the greatest of the chapter of the sons of Dorn and the knights of Sigismund ... The Emperor's Champion!
As beautiful a gift as ever. Thank the Emperor for this blessing.
Actually shed a tear for Barbon at the end there. Hope he has the strength to do what is needed when the time comes.
He will. I hope it’s not necessary. But that’s out of my hands. :)
Finally barbons back story , balders you truly are a blessing
Omg that ending
Oh Balders -
I only found this today, and for reasons I cannot explain, I simply burst into tears.
Dagnabit - I'm a Dark Angels fan, but this -
This story is majesty, and might, and all that is great and good about 'the Hobby'
Jesus christ, cracking episode.

Another phenomenal intro story. My heart was racing and my attention magnetically pulled to the tale you were spinning. Its amazing every time.
Black Templar's are so overpowered, but I love it so much
They are o p done right!!!!!
I hacmve watched this episode 3 times now i love the way you tell stories I am blown away
I could listen to you speak forever. The weight your voice and words carry is powerful
Been waiting for this!!!! Thanks Baldermort!!!

Currently listening to this in a committee meeting, and getting goosebumps. Need to get home asap to start on my Know No Fear box I picked up yesterday 🤦🏽
A big Kia ora from New Zealand Lord Boldermort!
Good sir you are a master bard , a weaver of tales without parallel.
Awesome story…..well written even better told!!!
(Edit, just finished the last half) Oh wow. I’m stunned. This may be one of my favorite 40K stories of all. Amazing, amazing work. I’m sitting here stunned.
This was quite the production
I know it’s fanfiction but I want more. I get invested in your narratives.
Honestly Baldy a 2 and a half hour video you have made my day nae my week! It's always good when you have a shite week at work and then near the end of it you get content from your favourite creator
Sorry, brother. Its only just over an hour.
@@Baldermort gotta love YT teasing me but over an hour is still amazing
This is the only quote I can think of in relation to the emporers champion "A coward dies a thousand deaths, but the valiant never taste of death but once"'- William Shakespeare/Julius Caesar
„I am his SWOORD“ Chills just deep chills into the spine
Lore master Baldemort. You are indeed gifted with the talent of voice. You brother would make a grand chaplain.
Your voice, writing and storytelling is golden! Stuff of legends.
Thank you good sir!
Cheers! :)
Fan fic or not, this has heavy impact. Excellent work, mate.
Absolutely brilliant, those last few minutes in Barbons exchange with thee inquisitor isn't just well written, your inflection, your diction, your delivery is so precise and spot on that I found my self choking up even at work. Your story telling is nothing short of brilliant.
Well, it's CERTAINLY worthwhile to rewatch years later. It's like he knew baldy's true believers would come back here and find incredible value rewatching it, writing it with just enough suspense and mystery to be absolutely titillating to come back with the benefit of experiencing the future. Like a time traveler, observing the past with popcorn and tea.
After finishing almost all his videos, I rewatch when I am curious about anything, and I find hidden jewels like Easter eggs in an old favorite video game. Thanks baldermort!

All aboard the crusade train! WOOT WOOT!
As a Black Templars player this pleases my Crusader soul. For the Emperor!!
that was awesome and made ten times better with the voice of are beloved BALDERMORT
In a nostalgic remembrance, at last an olde weight is lifted off, with a new odyssey come
Hello UA-cam algorithm. Yet again you are the only one who creates a narrative of what amazing things Space Marines could accomplish with just a little creativity an there incredible gifts.
Listening to your videos forced me to find a game I could play as a space marine lol. I've got to adorn my armor as close to a Black Templar as possible. For the Emperor!!!
Glad I got to catch the 1st half of the video before meeting my tutor. Now for the second half!
Hope the studying goes well. :)

Aye. But the present Thaddeus is a LOT nicer to his own ‘boy’. :).
Why Audible hasn't hired you a a narrator is beyond me. Love listening to your stories.

Good Sir Baldermort I know that your are a truly humble man when it comes to your talents but you have seriously outdone yourself this time. I think I’m on my third play through of the Thaddeus series.

My friend, you have reached and grasp it, are someone to be told of the Warhammer world-renowned all over.
The ending sent chills down my spine, having come to this after reading all of Tarquinus and Boy. I will say no further, but if you enjoy that story cycle, then you MUST finish it, what there is of it, before these last 15 minutes.
You must
With every entry you out do yourself Baldermort. With every entry I find myself on the edge of my seat, leaning in towards this magnificent voice crafting worlds before me. Crafting humanity before me. There are few things in my life that give rise to such anticipation and excitement as seeing one small notification box with the name of Baldermort. For the joy you provide, we are in your debt.
This by far baldy has got to be one of the best fan fiction stories I have heard. To top it off its about my favourite chapter and favourite hero. You really went above and beyond. Thank you for an amazing piece.
Well played sir. The scene of your tale was well complimented by your oratory. Well played sir..
So this is why I woke up with morning wood
Morning glory is always good. ;)
Wonderful job of creating what the old inquisitor would have sounded like when he was young! And the disdain he had to endure from his superior, too. Wow. And now the young man is old and grouchy, but shows the kindness he never received himself.
Elated you saw that. I really tried. It’s tough doing so many voices in one short. I’m not get good at that bit. Glad it came out well. :)
Thanks for your taking time to answer.
Barbon will forever be my favorite space marine! Thank u for this amazing character
I giggled a bit when the video got to the part about the Champion recieving his armor and holding the sword high. I kept thinking.. "And then he shouted with all his might, By the Power of the Emperor! I HAVE THE POWERRRRRRRRRR!" this was truly a glorious episode of Baldermorts story time. Excellent video and very worth the wait for a long video like this one! I hope you get a little rest after this Baldy! This one must have been some serious work!
lol. Why didn’t I think of that? Lol!!!!!
Thank you brother. No rest for the wicked. Need to start in wolves. :).
Bravo! I think you are giving the black library a run for its money when it comes to the quality of story crafting and narration.
Bravo. Great performance.
