      +wejhvabewjty yes but they use it subtly, in dog shit Edm, reverb is used as a massive colour, and a cheap shitty way to get a big sound, instead of actually spending time on sound design they just saturate them in effects, (not to mention using software which sounds thin as shit), so yeh.

    I think it's a nice track that shows a lot of talent. This is the key ingredient. Talent. There are a lot of "Producers" out there who can mix real well. They know all about compression, EQ, reverb, delay, etc. etc. For some reason though, they're tracks are not getting signed. They don't get a lot of likes on SoundCloud or UA-cam, even though they get a lot of plays. What's missing? Creative talent. Some people have it, and some, and some people don't. They don't know how to write melodies and then do an impactful arrangement to support it. The result is a well mixed track that is boring at best, or unfortunately in most cases, absolute garbage. So in their frustration, they attack guys who have achieved real success. I guarantee you, all of the beautiful women dancing away at festivals, to Jay's music, don't even care that he doesn't understand compression. Besides, he admitted that he doesn't fully understand it. Jay knows how to write songs. That's what counts. Rob

      I'm glad that you have that confidence. That's half the battle. Some people have talent but have no confidence or belief that they can do it.

      All that matters is that he produces amazing music! You can have the best producing knowledge but if you're not really into the music and or untalented then you are still a bad producer.
      If you don't have the best producing knowledge but are creative and talented then you can still be an amazing producers! So please shut up haha

    • @ArmenBabayan69
      @ArmenBabayan69 9 років тому +2

      +Rave In Peace while I do agree that it comes down to good music, I wouldn't go as far as calling it amazing. If you're a producer with some degree of artistic integrity you should teach yourself the basic concepts of a mixdown imo. I have no doubts that Jay is creative and talented, so no hate, but as a producer you will have to deal with dynamics one way or another at some point in your career, so I'd suggest going a bit more careful next time on your expert opinion

    • @kingovqnz
      @kingovqnz 8 років тому

      +Armen Babayan 99.9999999 percent of producers do not fully understand a compressor. it is an advanced piece of hardware/ software that only true audio engineers, and the best ones fully understand and hear properly, whom come few and far between, so unless you only respect the artistry of one or two producers ever, id re evaluate your opinion

    • @ArmenBabayan69
      @ArmenBabayan69 8 років тому

      +Ben Cohen Mate you don't need to fully understand a compressor (if by fully you mean the algorithms and science behind its actual functioning). As I said, you just need to know what it does in general, and what every common knob is for, which is not rocket science I believe.

    • @Theromoore
      @Theromoore 8 років тому +2

      +Ben Cohen no, I'd say most producers that have been in the scene and have fucked around and made music for more than 5 years will most definitely know how a compressor is used, what it's used for, where it should be applied, and how it works. And even when you're just getting started or are only a little bit into the whole thing you should probably know that you shouldn't use something other than like a VCA or equivalent piece of software (or even just the mixing knobs), JUST to boost the gain. I mean, you would assume that the guy would understand that all he was doing when he put the compressor on was boosting the gain, because it looks like he fiddled around with the knobs a bit (eg. the ratio), and of course you wouldn't notice a difference between inf:1 and 1:1 if the threshold is at 0dB. Also, it's not "an advanced piece of hardware/ software that only true audio engineers [use/understand]", it's actually pretty a pretty basic thing. I wouldn't expect someone that's been using FL Studio for like a year to use it and really understand it, but once you start playing around with it, it becomes decently apparent what it does to the sound. deadmau5, for example, is well-versed in how to mix, master, engineer, etc. his sounds, and he also makes really good music, in my opinion (as well as many others). Same with Noisia, and Hybris, and most of the people on Invisible Recordings and mau5trap, as well as many, many other labels (and independent artists), so I'm not sure what gives you the idea that only a small percentage of people in the entire EDM industry know how to use a compressor. Almost everyone uses compressors for their drums anyway.

    Holy shit my respect for this guy just sky rocketed !!
    Its ok if he doesnt know what he is doing with the technical stuff.
    But definitely he is putting effort in creating a good club banger !!
    the most important thing about a song IMHO is arrangement and sound selection.
    which is pretty decent here and works !!
    Moreover I can't imagine he works with all the stock fx plugins !!

      better him saying rather than trying to bullshit. If he makes music that works for him and clearly other people, it doesn't matter that he doesn't know about compression etc. Surely it's the end product that matters. People always get on one with the technical side. Usually when they are better at the technical stuff, but are not as successful as the person they are bitching about.

  • @lucavervoort5475

    Vengeance - doesn't know how to use a compressor - nexus leads - massive preset - more presets - soundgoodizer - gross beat sidechain,come on - sampled kick, no processing - more soundgoodizer - lol - presets - so many presets - ozone on the master

      And its a bonus if you get signed to spinnin for having fun with sounds ;)

      ***** Not all the producers care !!
      And those who do the most obvious reason might be that they are jealous (not necessary though) because even after spending countless time on figuring out how the compressor works they are not signed to spinnin !!
      Ok tell me honestly !! if Jay had not told that he is not good with technical stuff, were you able to tell that the compressor wasn't set right when you first heard the track ?
      Its the end product that matters !! if you wanna be a perfectionist go on, but don't expect that everybody must be so !!
      The guy did everything by ear and I appreciate him for that !! Its a talent within itself.
      inb4 someone points out my English - yeah sorry for that :|

    • @iZambyHD
      @iZambyHD 9 років тому +9

      What i'm saying is, that just because something is on spinnin, it doesnt mean its better, or even good. The mixing isn't good, and it bothers me because i know that i could mix this so much better. And 80 % of the big room tracks released on spinnin i could remake in 30-45 minutes. But i choose not to release those kinds of tracks because i work on music that means something to me.. Went on a little rant, but it just bothers me that he's making this video, and a lot of new producers will follow him, when they shouldn't! If you want a good tutorial that really help you become a good producer, you should watch deniz koyus studio session from his livestream!

    Yup, you don't know how compressor works 4:20 tou have treshold on 0 which means all you did was adding 3db gain. Check youtube, there are amazing tutorials on it.
    My suggestion would be use FL Layer to control multiple instruments to play same melody and use reverbs/ delays/ sidechain on all layers at same time on their bus, so it's easier on CPU and you can put more stuff in track. ;)

      +NeZversTutorials If the threshold is at 0db, it means the compressor will be active whenever the signal goes above 0db, meaning it's being used as a sudo limiter so the signal doesn't clip :) He admits that he doesn't know all of the tech ins and outs of a compressor, but the setting makes some sense from my point of view.

    • @NeZversSounds
      @NeZversSounds 8 років тому

      +Alex Klingle If you do it right anything should go above 0db. Also that vocal that goes straight into comp doesn't seem even catch -10db.

    Amazing track, but I don't understand how the mix doesn't sound crushed when it's clipping massively without the izotope, but when you just stick it on it doesn't. Usually if I ever try doing this without headroom it sounds mushy and crushed, but on this, there's literally no headroom on the master, but it still sounds brilliant. Anyone know?

    Goddamnit, this actually pisses me off. I've been producing for about 9 to 10 years now and have absolutely no tracks that ever gained any popularity. When I produce I EQ every sound, mix them together, shape their transient via a compressor and then mid/side EQ them to make them work together in mono. This kid does nothing like that. He drops Soundgoodizer on stuff and just turns some knobs in Fruity Reverb. Looks like every fucking channel of his is hitting 0 dB too...
    Think I'll throw away about 6 years of knowledge the next time I sit down with FL and just crank everything up to 11 and squash the living shit out of the track and get me a contract with Spinnin'.

      I wouldn't say something as basic as compressing would count as "everything" within the aspect of mastering. It's just a simple and effective tool that is really basic and something most people learn very early on in their career
