I remember a subreddit called fifty/fifty or something. The caption told you you either get one thing or another thing. And if you clicked on the picture then it would be like either a cute cat or some very violent disturbing stuff.
Antiwork is actually back, and it just has a shitty name. 90% of the people on that subreddit just want a better work environment, less abusive bosses, etc. But I remember watching that subreddit have a meltdown live (since I'm a part of it) and I was in so much shock that THAT was the mod that was chosen to be interviewed. If I remember correctly they'd been problematic before the interview and idek if the other mods got a say in who should do the interview.
Little correction on the R/antiwork thing, p much the entire community there used it simply as a way to vent about terrible employers and advocate for Unions and the like. Pretty basic anti-capitalist stuff, just presented in a more snappy, inflammatory way. The mod team however were like a weird, super specific strain of Anarcho-Communists that literally believed in no work for the most part. That guy that came on to fox news was some random dude with no public speaking skills and basically burned an entire community that was actually doing quite good stuff to embers.
If you want possibly the wackiest rabbit hole, look into the “# world problems” subreddits. AFAIK, it started as a parody of “first world problems” with the “second” and “third” worlds pertaining just to increasingly poorer countries, but “fourth world problems” is people pretending to be cavemen. Then somehow it ended up going full circle with the higher numbers (fifth, sixth, infinity, etc), and the subreddits devolve into some sort of dystopian hellscape role play.
The Anti-Work mod did that entire movement such a disservice. Like, it started out good with explaining that anti-work doesn't necessarily mean anti-labor or anti-doing stuff, but it just went downhill from there. I mean, how do you not have a comeback for, "If you don't like your job, you can just leave/This ain't slave labor"? That's like the easiest pro-capitalist stance to counter! Just say something like, "If the options are work for someone else who might not have your best interest at heart or that you despise, or starve, that's still slavery because that's still coercion. The job market as we understand it simply the illusion of choice. You're still compelled to labor for others rather than yourself though if you just want to survive." That right there is the crux of the anti-work argument. It's just basic anti-capitalism, but with a punchier name.
I totally thought you'd mention r/watchpeopledie as one of the banned subs! I never saw that one before it was banned but there's plenty of other nightmare fuel. The worst/most graphic thing I've ever come across was the story of Kelly Ronahan on r/illnessfakers. Anyway, I'd love to see more social media reaction videos like these, the facebook comments and tiktok lives were so funny. I'm really happy you're uploading again!
Yeah but if your own argument isn't good then it's easy for that to be a counter argument. To be fair neither Jared or Austin have real jobs anymore so.....yeah.

OH NO WAY I watched this video when it first came out but since then I've been to Prague and I've seen both the baby sculptures and the big tower and I had no idea they mounted some of the babies on the tower too. Also btw if you're ever in Brussels you should definitely check out the Atomium sculpture it's really cool. It's cool on the inside too.
Wow they look so different compared to when I first started watching. I was watching old videos to get a blast from the past and then watch this and it’s a world of difference
The anti work idea is perfectly valid, and should be explored, for the sake of humanity’s future - unless people legitimately enjoy being “wage slaves” as many even call it. However it should be tackled realistically, and with a lot more thought out into it than that derp.
I mean I'm all for having a bunch of free time for doing whatever I want, but I just have no idea how that could possibly, realistically "work" (no pun intended). We enjoy a lot of amenities and products (at least here in States), and I just don't see how these could possibly continue to be produced for our use without people...well, working to produce them...
After Anti-Work went private a new sub was formed called Work Reform where they promote unionization and better treatment/pay for employees. Which is what a lot of people originally wanted Anti-Work to focus on. I personally love Reddit but it is a fucking weird site for sure.
i think the anti-work interview was good. am i crazy? from someone that has spent like 4 years of my 10 year career working + studying 80 hour weeks if not 94, remember some times were insane... why do we not yet have a three day weekend? who do you think gets that extra "productivity" idk
Tower of TERROR is a ride at UNIVERSAL or DISNEY I believe! I live down here and remember in the 90's when they opened it up! SOOOOOOOO MANY GAWDDAMN COMMERCIALS FOR IT!!!
To perhaps give some credence to the antiwork argument. Federal minimum wage is 7.25, and a handful of states have that as the minimum. 7.25 x 40 x 4 = $1160. That would be pretax, so it isn't even your take home for the month. The state with the lowest average rent is North Dakota at $826. That leaves 334 dollars that has to pay for food, gas, water, etc. It is technically legal, in a lot of states, to hire someone and not pay them a living wage. Why should anyone want to work under those conditions? Demanding more from work before giving them your time seems pretty reasonable to me if you can support that lifestyle.
10:38 that is in Prague, bradcast tower, tallest builfing in the city, art instalation done by David Černý, well known czech artist. Source: I live in Prague. And yeah, Atomium is cool as fuck, not very interested in visiting Eiffel tower, but definitely want to see Atomium someday.

That first pic of the bench under water I've seen a story about it before, half the day it's under water during a hightide and then the other half the day the park is open lol kinda cool
I think people misunderstood r/Antiwork, including most of the people on it. I was there for a while, but folks were incredibly ableist. For me it's about autonomy and agency. We shouldn't have to work to live; why is my ability to keep myself alive contingent on performing labor under capitalism?
I'm sorry, but what you said is something a child would say. Do you think we live in some sort of fantasy where everything is premade and it's just the evil overlords who are keeping it away from you in order to force you to work? Everything that we have requires work to be made, it requires someone to make it and you are not entitled to any of it. If you want to get it, you need to trade something for, be it a product or a service. Or build it yourself if you can. Live alone in the mountains, grow your own food, make your own clothes, whatever you want. Nobody is forcing you to do anything, but expecting everything to be handed to you on a silver platter because you are lazy and entitled is a disguisting line of thinking.
r/antiwork is back by now, I never noticed it going down but I was already on it for a long time. There was a big fuss about it on the sub, but it never really went down and it's still up

If you enjoy highly satisfying and deserved schadenfreude, I can HIGHLY recommend the revenge subreddits - petty, pro, nuclear, black hole, used to be supernova, but that one's been made private, for some reason. . Not sure why, but the fact that the tombstone belongs to "Heinrich" makes it funnier.

R/Antiwork sounded like it was unironically accidentally advocating for Communism XD (at least the idea of eliminating the excruciating and menial work by way of automation, thus allowing for people to have more opportunity to instead labor in a fulfilling and more happy manner). Of course that doesn’t necessarily include the abolishment of Capitalism, but the above sentiment is an anti-Capitalist and pro-communist one, so 🤷♂️
