Intarsia Dolphins

- I made these dolphins from a pattern in an intarsia book by Judy Gale Roberts called Easy to Make Intarsia. I used blue pine and holly for the bodies and ebony and holly for the eyes. I also used Old Masters gel poly for the finish. I was very happy with it and it makes the wood feel silky. Also, I recently learned about a sticker machine called Creative Station. I used it in this video which makes the pieces of the pattern into stickers! Then you easily attach them to the wood. It worked well but make sure to use repositionable sticker cartridges and not the permanent ones.
I’ll put links in the description box to the items I’ve used so you can easily check them out.
Thanks for watching and I hope that you try an intarsia project real soon!!!
Psalm 146:6 NIV He is the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them- he remains faithful forever.

Looks great! Nice to see different techniques. I’ll have to look into the sticker transfer. Really nice that blue pine.
Thanks 👍 The blue pine is one of my favs.
Have always loved dolphins and these came out beautiful! You always make the intarsia look so easy. That blue pine is really a nice color - wish I could find some around here. Great project again - thanks for sharing and inspiring me.
Thanks so much Eileen!!!! 😊
They look amazing Cy...esp those eyes...have a great weekend.

Muy lindo su trabajo
Gracias!!!
Nice, Cy! I really like the way you did the eyes. They turned out great, and the gloss finish catches the light!
Thanks so much!
Great-looking dolphins
Thanks!!!
This is the exact pattern I was looking at doing next! Then I found you video. Some great techniques to help me get it done right. Just loving it! We live in Florida with dolphins in the canals in our backyard. I also love love love that you add Bible verses to the back. I do my intarsia for God’s Glory, I don’t sell them, I give them away. The fun of retirement. (Now to find blue pine in Florida, or get someone to ship it to me). We are visiting family at the bottom of WA soon, wish we could stop in to see your set up. I will be watching for more of your fun projects. Have a blast!!
Hey!!!
You may find some blue pine when you are in Washington!!! I'm about 5 hours from the southern WA border so c'mon over!
Glad to hear your intarsia is a ministry, mine too :)
Your work is wonderful! I love the way you put God's Word on all of your pieces. You are making a difference and God is proud of you!
Hey again! Thank you Ron :) God's word never comes back void!!! I hope to spread his message!
I really like the dolphins!!!! The blue pine was a really good choice of wood and the eyes are absolutely AWESOME!!!!!!
Thanks a bunch Curt!!!!!!
Cy, nice looking dolphins. The Creative Station seems like a great investment. Thanks for the shoutout. 😷👍
Thanks for the tip Paul!!!!!

Lovely work on the Dolphins Cy! Thanks for sharing the video with us!💖👍👌😎JP
Thanks JP!! Did you get the little band saw?
Your very welcome Cy! No not yet i hope to in the future :) it's on my list of new toys lol Have a great week!😎
I love the dolphins and like so many others have said, you did a great job on the eyes. Eyes are hard because they are so small.
Yes, I wasnt sure I could make them but all turned out better than expected!!!
Hi Cy, have you ever heard of a soap finish? Might be something interesting to try. Chris Schwarz has a nice video about it using it to finish a handmade chair. It's traditionally used for furniture and the likes, wonder how it would work on intarsia.
Interesting!!! I'm very curious about this! Thanks!
I do not have a sticker machine, but I print my patterns directly to selfadhesive stickerpaper. It saves a lot of glueing.
Great idea!!!!
nice
Thanks :)
I am Brazilian
Love the hat! Did you cut off the bill with the scrollsaw? :)
No, but I will for the next hat!!!!
Oh wow, I've been looking for a large dolphin pattern, do you sell the patterns?
The pattern is a Judy Gale Roberts Pattern and she sells them!
Here is a link:

I enlarged the pattern by using Rapid Resizer but you can do it at Staples or any copy place :)
Never heard of a wonder wheel. I wonder why?
You wonder wheel why? hee heee! Here is a link for one, Judy Gale Roberts uses them for making details in intarsia projects and for burnishing. intarsia.com/collections/hardware/products/wonder-wheel-bushings?variant=33323873222
I have only had mine for a short time and am getting used to using it :)
Cy, I had started this but never completed it had to move lost the pieces and now no idea where the book is 😢😢
Oh no, so sorry to hear that! I have lost pieces from unfinished projects, no fun. 😥
