You make this recipe look so easy I’m always sceptical when it’s filo pastry

Dimitra, I just made this morning. Had some trouble to cut top phyllo before baking because the filling was very soft underneath. Still it’s very delicious with taste and aroma of orange. All efforts are worth it when eat it. Thank you for your recipe. I will continue to try your other ones.

It makes my mouth water. It looks so good. Well done. Makis lazos
Dimitra Put Rose Water or Orange Blossom Water in the Sugar Honey sauce. It is the way i was taught to make it in Lebanon for similar desert dishes using Phyllo dough. It is to literally die for . Try it you will love it...
Thank you, Dimitra...your custard pie looks so good. 😊😋😍
Delicious!!!! I LOVE IT!!!!!!
Thanks for sharing this one :) I will be making it very soon, and I will definitely let you know how it goes :) looks delicious

Looks wonderful!
Hi just discovered your channel. Love it!
Thanks for being here :)
you are amazing ! I am so happy that i found your site !
Thanks so much for being here!
You're supposed to wait 45 minutes to an hour but I'm going to slice it so you can see it now, it's for you're benefit. Yeah right just couldn't wait and are blaming us, the viewer. But when I make it from your recipe I fear that I won't be able to wait either. 45 minutes to an hour?? hahaha. Thanks for another great recipe.
What I wouldn't give for one of these right now!
How would you do it with a 9x13 baking dish? Here you overlap the phyllo. Would you do the same?
This is my all-time favorite desert! It looks delicious.... I want you to adopt me! Please!
lol!
I want to make this for Pascha!
👍
I was taught to use farina cereral either wheat or rice what's difference with semolina? I also was taught not to butter all sheets but was taught to roll them individually like cigars and to heat as needed. touch of rose water to simple syrup
I like YOUR technique BETTER!! EASY BUTTON ✅!!
i finally got a good box of filo sheets, so i made them the way my mom likes, rolled up. they looked awesome when i took out of oven. but the sec i poured the cold syrup on them, the filo pretty much softened to mush. i'm guessing the filo was too thin for galaktoboureko. Wish my mom didn't have such a sweet tooth. Because I had some dusted with powder sugar and they were really good.
Was the syrup cold and the pastry hot? If both things are the same temp: hot and hot, then it results in a soggy pastry... The thinner phyllo does tend to soften much faster than thicker phyllo. Hope this helps!! xoxo
SOGGY!!!! Thanks. That's the word I was looking for. But yes, cold syrup on hot pastry. Could the pastry have been too hot??? I did pour the syrup, once I removed the pastry out of oven. Either way, I'm going syrupless from now on, just like with loukoumades. Only baklava will get the syrup. THANKS AGAIN!!! My 89 yr old mom loves watching your videos
I just saw a recipe using CREAM OF WHEAT!! I JUST wanna use extra egg yolks instead to stay LOWer CARB. The Phyllo dough has enough carbs. Would that work???
What city is your restaurant in? Love your videos
This looks unbelievably good and I'm happy to see you follow the authentic way of making it like my old school mother always has. Would you by any chance have the recipe for σκαλτσουνάκια? If not, PLEASE show us your way! Thanks! ⚘
Thank you!! I have 2 recipes: a cheese version and a spinach version :) Both are on this channel and on my website. Just search: Dimitra's Kalitsounia :)
@@DimitrasDishesOh sorry! 😂 I meant those little Greek desert things called "skaltsounia". My mother always called them 'skaltsounakia '. They're like little crunchy turnovers with a spicy honey/walnutty mixture inside, Then covered with icing sugar. You also add a little bit of Ouzo in the dough to give it a great flavour....she's been following a Greek cookbook from I think the 1950's-60's so it's very authentic with the Ouzo but I'd LOVE to see your version. Trust me, They're dee-licious!
Would you layer the phyllo dough the same way if you were to use a 9x13 pan? Looks delicious!
Yes. I would just layer carefully as to not run out of phyllo .... All the best!!
Done! I made it a 13x9 though, didn't think my pie plate was deep enough. Cooling....
HI Dimitra .. when you say semolina here in Toronto we have few different .. the one u r using is it flour like or is it very fine
It's the fine one
@@athenaemmanouilidis1291 thank you
@@athenaemmanouilidis1291 thanks for sharing your recipe i made it and it was sooooooooooooo good thank you
As a diabetic I am still going to try to make this, but leaving the syrup part. Tks.
why is your stand mixer turned away from you while you're using it? it's awkward, no?
yummy! I'm not a big orange fan, can I make it without it? is the orange a prominent flavor?
Sure! You can substitute lemon or just leave it out completely :)
I love anything with custard i bet it smells yum!!! Where did you learn to cook or find influence from Pakistani food? Asking as i'm Pakistani :)
Naeem Ayub my husband is from Pakistan:)
Dimitra's Dishes Wow you need to make a Greek Pakistani fusion dish :D
Gosh!! That looks wonderful, but the dairy will upset my stomach. Thank you, pretty lady, for the video.
I would love to learn how to make chicken Bamies
Hello Dimitra. Can you please make malemakapona & Koupabiethes?!
Hi! Both of those recipes are on my channel :)
Dimitra, looks yummy! I love your earrings...where do you shop for them? 😙
Mar Shuey these are by Kendra Scott. She makes beautiful pieces. Thank you :)
Whats the difference in this and Bougatsa
Hi Dimitira. Can you please tell me the recipe for the custard and apple pie. Thank you.
Yes, sure. It is in this ebook:www.dimitrasdishes.com/product/the-holiday-table-thanksgiving-menu-2/
Hello you said two egg yolks and two egg whites, but you had four eggs in there is this because the eggs were small?
The recipe calls for 2 egg yolks and 2 whole eggs. Sorry for the confusion :)
What other substitute can be used instead of semolina pls?
Semolina gives it the rustic texture but, you can use corn starch instead :)
@@DimitrasDishes thanks Dimitra 🤍
Being a diabetic, instead of sugar could powdered honey be used. Any body can chime in...thanks
I've never heard of powdered honey... Sorry.
If it can be made into syrup, I guess it could.
That said, I found a recipe that suggests stevia in a 1 to 3 ratio or replacing sugar with coconut sugar, but it's in Greek, perhaps Dimitra can convert it
syntagesgiadiabitikoys.blogspot.com/2016/05/blog-post.html
Is it possible to make it in a muffin tin for mini pies?
Great idea! Yes, you can do that :) My Holiday table 1 ebook on my website has a recipe in it for mini pumpkin pies. You can use that to make the phyllo cups :)
carolina, i've done in muffin tins. it's much harder than rolling them up if you're using regular filo sheets.
Can the custard pie be frozen or put in the refrigerator
It can be refrigerated once it is baked :)
@@DimitrasDishes I 'd like to make this for my Greek boyfriend's family for Thanksgiving! (I'll definitely practice ahead of time, haha) I would need to make it the day before. So would I refrigerate it WITHOUT drizzling the sauce on top or would I include that step and then put in fridge? Once out of fridge does it go into oven to reheat or let stand and re-drizzle sauce? Thank you!
Do you have a cookbook?
I do! The Brunch Table is my very first cookbook and it's available on Amazon as a paperback or on my website for purchase as an ebook (digital download). Buy the paperback here: amzn.to/2VG1D8b or Download the ebook here: The_Brunch_Table:_Recipes,_Menus,_&_Gameplans_to_Cook,_Share,_&_Create_Memories_(EBOOK_-DIGITAL_DOWNLOAD).html
Don't care what day it is. I want to see this on my fork.

You Americanized the recipe wrong plate check any Greek recipe you'll never see that
In pretty positive I saw it in a bakery in Crete.
I've always called this dish, "Galaxy Burrito." My Greek is not so good.
Haha! That’s a good one :) it sounds cooler, actually 😊
I am laughing you made a g a l a k t o b o u r e k o I think you have mixed up the recipes
When you talk about oven temperature, please say it in Celsius also. Your viewers are from all over the world not just U.S. :)
I'll try to add that to my written recipes on my website. Thank you :)
