The best way to get a "meaty" tofu is to freeze the entire package. Once thawed there's very little water to press out...and, after marinating/cooking, the tofu has a really chewy texture...I learned this the hard way and it works in soups, stir fries, grain/noodle bowls...oy
@@TheKarebear666 If its vacuum packed (the only way I find it) i just throw it in the freezer. I can't find the tofu-in-water (the one where you have to drain) so, it's up to you on that
Madeleine, love you recipe! If I have enough material, I will definitely try them. Every time I watch your video, which like a magic. These foods transform into beautiful and delicious dishes! Thanks all your hard work to share your wonderful recipes online!
I make a nut-free homemade caeser salad dressing. Silken tofu, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, capers, minced garlic, salt, pepper and nutritional yeast blended up in a blender or food processor until smooth. No amounts on the ingredients I just add to taste.
I followed everyone’s advice when I first started cooking tofu. I pressed it under books just like in this video. Then I watched Cheap Lazy Vegan’s videos and she said she never presses her tofu and so I decided to try it. I finally like tofu now that I’m not pressing it, lol. To each their own, I suppose. But I don’t put it on salads. I just use it in stir fry mostly. And scrambled “eggs.” Also, that tabbouleh looks delicious!
this video is awesome! love love the lighting! don't know where you filmed but hopefully you can film here more often. also, the measurements written out as you were adding each ingredient, nice touch :) i will definitely return to this video as a reference
love love those videos 😍 tabbouleh sald it's my favorite And alternative to mushrooms you can use eggplant and throw some cook potatoes in there with tahini dressing that one is my go to if you looking for more ideas
aah for the ceasar salad hIghLy recommend smoked tofu if it is available near u! make sure its not the raw smoked one if that makes sense if u r dutch the one from marqt is aMazing! makes a salad! also v good with some grilled courgette in the salad :)
I live in the South of France and my father is Algerian and we make taboulé this way we just add raw bell peppers cut into little squares you should try it ;) Love your videos btw !
Oh wow! I will try all of them! Starting with the croutons of the Caesar salad, because I just made a big pot of tomato soup that I want to dump them in. You’re cooking is so inspirational 💚😋
once our house renos are done and i have a kitchen again, trying the mushroom one and if i can find my food processor the tofu one. that dressing looks amazing.
I just had a really good vegan Japanese mushroom salad at a restaurant (not a vegan restaurant but the only vegan item I could find). It was arugula, slices of artichoke hearts, sautéed shiitake mushrooms with an Asian dressing (ponzu vinaigrette and sumiso sauce is what it says on the menu but it tasted like any Asian type salad dressing to me). I’ve been planning to replicate it at home.
Best way to make salad dressing, put everything into a yar and shake it up. Easy and you can store it in the fridge in the yar as well. Next use shake it up again 😊
Thanks for this, great stuff! I really want to try the mushroom one looks so delicious! 😍 I also like the Tabouleh version you made it's quicker and easier ^_^
Madeline I love love love your recipe videos! I'm not vegan but I added a lot of your recipes to my daily cooking. (also love your minimalist video's btw) XX from the Netherlands
I honestly didn't really understand why it would be hard making a salad vegan 😅 i mean all the main ingredients (actual salad, cucumber, tomatoes, oil...) are vegan, so if you just go for a classic salad recipe, i guess the only thing not vegan would be cheese... But i do know, that there can be a lot of special ingredients like chicken or egg, so for a more individual salad you're recipes are very good:) 🥗 Also i didn't didn't want to hate or anything, i really really like your videos and recipes! 😊
Omg the ceasar salad looks sooo amazing! ❤️ I love watching your videos but I'm always too lazy to actually make them, but god I just have to make this one.
Thanks for letting us know we dont need the nutritional yeast fornthe caesar dressing since I'm not a big fan if it. If I dont have bulgar can I use quinoa or couscous instead?
Hmmm, I doubt there's something that would replicate that flavor exactly, but maybe adding some white miso paste or even some vegan cream cheese to a dressing would round up the flavor nicely? I'm quite sensitive to it myself, such a bummer! :(
Try to make the “real” tabbouleh salad it is very delicious You will need parsley (a lot of it to make a big bowl) some green onion some mint chopped up , one large diced tomato and 100g of bulgur soaked in lemon (not boiled) The dressing is olive oil , lemon, salt, a hint of black pepper and a pinch of cinnamon powder
There is a pressed Tofu you can buy. I would want to be healthier which I believe goes with being a Vegan where you don't use soy sauce as it is genetically modified, unless you have a non-gmo version. Thanks for the video
@@welcomeback2mychannel You should really check the ingredients then, because mustard is made from egg yolks. That's why I was asking as I see mustard used all the time, but mustard is Not vegan.
Why would you ever use tofu for the Caesar salad when you guys have Quorn fillets or bites which resembles chicken perfectly? I always make my Caesar with it, tastes delish!
A lot of vegan salads have nuts in but I'm allergic (one of the reasons I'm struggling to go 100% vegan!). Anyone know any good replacements for nuts in salads?
The mushroom salad works amazingly without the walnuts still - you can swap for seeds 😊 Also try subbing the cashews for tahini in the caesar salad recipe!
I pronounce it "tabboulah ", levantines pronounce it "tabbouli", same with tahini, it's a levantine pronunciation, other Arab countries pronounce it "tahinah"

Do you drain it before freezing. Or just stick the package into the freezer when you get home from groceries?
@@TheKarebear666 If its vacuum packed (the only way I find it) i just throw it in the freezer. I can't find the tofu-in-water (the one where you have to drain) so, it's up to you on that
I've literally never seen vacuum packed tofu. What country are you in?
@@TheKarebear666 ive never seen one that isnt vacuum packed 😦
@@TheKarebear666 The United States. I'm not sure if "vacuum packed" is the right term. It's packed with very little water, unlike the regular tubs.

somemoreplease Quorn is a real god-send for vegetarians and vegans (some products are vegan). I don’t know what I’d do without it.
Because quorn is nowhere near as available as tofu. Global stage remember.

“When you go vegan it’s hard to make a salad” LOL
