In this episode we all hell breaks loose when we find out the MACCLESFIELD Canal is CLOSING, how will this affect our LIVEABOARD LIFESTYLE journey??? We have to make a quick decision - BOSLEY LOCK FLIGHT beckons for the second time in under a week. How do you feel about the number 13??? We have to come to terms with it!!! With depleted ENERGY LEVELS onboard BORDER REIVER we tackle those challenge 12 locks again…. WILL WE MAKE IT???

I had to have a chuckle when you were winding, many years ago my husband and I hired a cruiser on the Broads for a couple of weeks. It was a large cruiser for just the 2 of us but we didn’t want the hassle of packing beds away. We were looking for a mooring one evening, and saw a number of cruisers all moored on either side of what looked like a branch of the river. Unfortunately it was a dead end , and the moorings were full! We tried to reverse but it was too far so there was a bit of a turning and my husband tried turning the boat but to no avail. Fortunately a very kind very experienced man said he would help. He reversed for us, we thanked him, but as he went to jump off our boat onto his, the boats drifted apart, he fell in!! When we rejoined the main river, we noticed a hardly visible sign ‘Not suitable for boats over 30’------ we were 38’. Nuff sed! Wonderful holiday though!
Fantastic story, we loved that. Hope he was ok?? Sometimes the signs are so poor we often have to shout to passing boaters to make sure we don’t go wrong 😑!!

That red mansion you past on the left, The canal was originally to run behind it, Those "decorative railings" were put in for compensation and as old as the canal

You guys make me laugh, 28c degrees, here in central Australia today is a cool 42c heading for 46c wish we had a 28c for a change. we have another week of this heat wave to it drops back to the high 30's for our cool change.

those beautiful appartments opposite you mooring was the Hovis factory when I grew up in the area. The biggest fish in the Canal could be caught on that stretch of canal. Your bait though needed to be just right because the fish were well fed from the Hovis factory effluent. Sad you had to turn back and missed one of the best Canals.

I’m sure I’m the 51st person to say Pastel de Nata .. as the answer to Michael’s favourite pastry … as I absolutely loath custard (long story .. dating back to school dinners .. lol) .. not something I would like!

I’ve found it hard to find a decent Chelsea bun around Aylesbury … but best ones I have had have been down in Devon … A bakery that has shops in both Dawlish & Dawlish Warren .. (Ryder’s Bakery) .. makes them fresh every day .. does great coffee & also super Pasties too!
I know it’s not on a Canal Route .. but if you & Michael ever find yourselves down that part of the world .. we’ll worth a visit .. also Dawlish is home to some beautiful black swans too!

Enjoying your vlogs have a question about Michael 's explanation that to maintain water level, an even number of boats need to go up and down a lock. I'm fairly sure water always flows down hill. So the water reserves always go thru the lock to the down elevation side regardless of which way the boat is going. Just saying, LOL. Tks for the adventures.
Good question! Yes it does flow downhill but it depends on how much water in coming into the system at the top and this lock flight had lots of water level challenges. Thanks for watching and hope you enjoy. x

What a pain having to turn around and have to do all the Bosley flight again. Jump technique worked well on bridge this time. Michael chilled, as usual. Well done to the CRT this time.

Yep he's got an auto helm connected to his tiller like they use on sailing boats bloody genius this guy to make it remote 💯👍they not expensive only around $1500 Australian but the remote electronics 🤔 I've got no idea but bloody good tho 😊

Hi Jackie and Michael. I follow them from the city of Rosario, Province of Santa Fe, in the Argentine Republic. that I countered that they had to return for the locks. but they have succeeded without setbacks. I like their videos the places they are showing us and everything they explain in their videos, in our country there are several sites similar to their channels, it is called Delta del Rio Parana, this between the Provinces of Buenos Aires, the Province of Entre Rios and the Republic of Uruguay. People move just like you do, but in normal size boats. There are the same infrastructure only there are no locks, then it’s all same boats stores supplies floating markets, there is an important and large port called Puerto de Frutos in the city of Tigre, Buenos Aires, is the main port of the area. I leave you a big hug. Thank you for sharing your experiences on the channels and your travels.

The person who we both love and admire most is also from Rosario.. our ‘God’ is…. Marcelo Bielsa. We are both massive Leeds United football club fans and Marcelo single handily pulled our club from the lower reaches of football back to the best league in the World the Premier league. He also lived about 1 mile from where we used to live and he walked to work each day so we saw him regularly.

The quing at the locks is not a hinderest, like it would be in a car, but an opportunity to meet new people, old friends, be sociable, something modern life is missing, loving your updates, ps, that remote control boat was a proper big boys toy 👍👍☕️❤️

Hi Jackie and Michael a tip that might help you when you come across paddles are hard to open. Put your windless so you pull down each time instead of pulling up , so put your windlass at the top to push down each time . Much easier than trying to pull up.

So sorry you didn't get to Whaley Bridge no doubt when the Reservoir is repaired things will get better, Personally speaking I live in North Manchester and we used to go on the Huddersfield on our little Norman before it was totally opened I wouldn't like to take a lovely boat like yours on it and 7 colours of crap out of it, Great vlog take care.😊

If you’d been able to continue, were you not going to do The Peak Forest Canal to Bugsworth Basin and Whaley Bridge? It’s one of the most beautiful on the whole system.
We moved down from the Peak Forest Canal at the end of Sept. We didn’t meet another boat going either way until we’d gone down Bosley Locks.
I know Wendy we are so upset we are going to miss those this year, we might try next year. Sounds like you had a very quiet passage through the Maccy... Great to hear from you x

Hi Chris now we sold Fizz in France and we think she is currently near St Jean de Losne. Fizz was a Hooveld not a Pedro. We have some friends who had a Pedro, a beautiful boat. Thank you for your comment.

Hi Jackie and Michael from Vancouver! We're back home to reset our Shengen allowance before heading back to our boat after Christmas. In the meantime we're satisfying our boating urge with videos like yours. Your videos always look great and the sound quality is pretty good as well...may I ask what you're shooting with? What about sound? I don't recall seeing either of you wearing mics but voices are always clear. - Keep up the great work. 👍
Hello Vancouver, hope all is well not the west coast?? Great to know we are helping you cope whilst at home. How long are you coming back to the boat for in the New Year?
For the majority of our video work we use a Sony ZV1 without body mics but we do have a slightly larger mic on the camera with a little wind sock, it makes a big difference. Some of the footage, walking mainly we use a DJI Osmo Pocket which has incredible gimbal stabilisation. Thanks for the lovely compliment. Best wishes, J & M xx

Judging by the lighting, weather, the birdsong and vegetation, I'd assume at least 4 months?

Great question!! We film every single day we are cruising so we end up with so much content, most of it makes the grade of being made into a video.
So if we cruise for 5 days a week we could depending upon the quality of the content and 'what happens' end up with 2 videos from each week. So you can suddenly realise why its a cold November day today and we are brightening your evening viewing with a lovely summers day.
We are keen to show our whole waterway journey not only for all our lovely subscribers but as a record of our time on Border Reiver. When we are in our rocking chairs (ha ha) will be great to look back on. Thank you for the lovely compliment. xx
