- There's some confusion and stubborness at the end of a long day cruising our narrowboats on the River Soar! We are on an epic narrowboat journey to the Crick Boat Show on Narrowboat One Day More, with Paul and Anthony from UA-cam channel @NarrowboatLifeUnlocked Morning Star. In this episode we have just turned onto the River Soar at Trent Junction and cruise south to Zouch, and leap frog @TaylorsAboardaNarrowboat 😊
Hello! If you are new here we are Caroline and Pete, and 2021, after 10 years living in Texas, we sold up and moved back home to the UK to live full time aboard a 60ft narrowboat, One Day More, with our West Highland Terriers! Loved the green grass and fields! Seeing the horse on the path and the cattle watching you go by was cool! Hamish going aboard Paul and Anthony's boat was funny!

They really are! Dexter was not too sure about coming on our boat when we first started travelling together, as Poppy barking at him to play with her used to annoy him, but he got used to her and tolerated her far more as the weeks went on! 😊

We are too! Poppy we had no doubt as she has always loved watching narrowboat vlogs when we were binge watching so many as we planned this new life aboard. Now she just gets to do it in real life! Hamish on the other hand had never been keen around water before we moved onto the boat, and we were quite worried. But even after a couple of dunkings he seems at ease now! 😊
@@onedaymoreaboard i think the changes now keep them active and inquisitive and is good for their exercise and having the boat as their cozy nest clearly works well for them!

Hamish fancied a trip on Morning Star!
I think he wanted to move onboard Jill! There was one time that I wish I had on camera when Hamish and Dexter were in the back of Morning Star, and Poppy was trying to get on, but Hamish kept batting her away with his paw, as if to say ‘Old boys only, no annoying girls allowed!’ 😂
Got a great shot of our Dog Woody sat watching Hamish invade Morning Star. Pawed the screen as Dexter walked about after you moored.

River cruising is so beautiful, and the only downside really is not being able to moor up as easily to get the dogs off quickly if we need to! Glad you enjoyed the video 😊

Hi ...we have Devil's Elbow on a very winding steep road in South Australia in The Adelaide Hills.
Very pretty now as Autumn brings the changing colours of the beautiful English Cedars and Ash trees .
My great grandparents were early settlers from Somerset (Bishop)
And a friend's relations (Nelson) from Stoke on Trent area.

I was totally expecting Hamish to turn in the other direction and continue to walk off after you called him 😂😂 As always a blummin lovely vlog. Had you ever done video editing before your started these vlogs as you seem like an absolute pro - the music selections, the black and white pictures…..always stunning 😍
Hamish is certainly a funny old soul Lesley! So lovely to hear that you are enjoying the vlogs. I had never done any video editing before, apart from putting together simple slide shows of my photography. That was something I picked up and realised I loved about 15 years ago now. It's been a very steep learning curve getting to grips with the editing, especially the audio, which is always a challenge, with wind noise, and engine noise etc. That's how the music first started out, as a fix to cover the bad audio, but now it's the thing I love most about the editing process! And we get such lovely comments about the music choices, with just the odd person that suggests we 'throw it in the canal' or 'it's only good for lifts'! It's a good job there are so many different styles of vlogs out there to please everyone! 😊

Ha ha ha! It’s actually ‘The river’s gonna cry when you’re gone’ but your version could be applicable to our friends when they cruised the same stretch in high water, and it was not good at all!! Thanks for watching 😊
Our favourite river section, we did it the other way as part of a hire boat hol in 2009, doing the Leicester Ring anti clockwise.
It’s so beautiful when it’s not in flood isn’t it. We have friends that cruised this section as there very first day after launching at Redhill Marina and they had a dreadful time with very quickly rising waters! Thanks for watching 😊

Another lovely video 😊. Quick question for Caroline. When you went to close that lock gate that had swung open, did you cross back over it or go back to the far gates ? I only ask as I noticed it didn’t appear to have a hand rail on the gate you needed to close.
I remember feeling a little nervous about going across a gate without a handrail.
I also noticed that Pete was wearing the lifesaver buoyancy aid. Had you always worn these or just decided to start using them ?
They are so slimline and easy to wear but can really make a difference if they are actually needed.

Glad you enjoyed it Alex! I crossed back over the gate I had closed, I went back and watched to double check there was a handrail, as I don’t dare do it without. It’s there behind the paddle mechanism, but you have to be somewhat careful to not get covered in grease as you shimmy past the paddle ratchets. I am always nervous when I’m crossing the gates, and never dare step across open gates, however narrow the gap seems! We always wear our life jackets on the river sections as the water is much deeper with a flow. I am determined to get far more confident at the helm this year! I’m always too busy filming and I’m far more confident doing that than steering 😂

Hi Robert, this is footage from last year that was filmed before my Dad got sick. I helped care for him until he was admitted to hospital and sadly died towards the end of last year. I’m now catching up on editing all of that footage and trying to get two videos out a week without compromising the quality of the videos. I will be all caught up within the next few weeks and then we will be putting out more current videos. Thanks for watching 😊

I’ve actually just been reading an article about mispronounced place names and Loughborough was indeed there!! My dad used to live in a village in Northamptonshire called Cogenhoe, and no one ever got that right (cook-no) 😂
