After issues in Loughborough earlier this year and about to travel further north through GREATER MANCHESTER and into more urbanised areas we decide a SECURITY review is essential.
Will it cope with our SECURITY needs onboard BORDER REIVER
Our cruise this week takes us from the quiet sleepy village of Lymm through the centre of Greater Manchester where we meet Jac’s niece Zoe & her fiancé Danny who try their hand at our LIVE ABOARD LIFESTYLE when they take charge of BORDER REIVER!!
We see the wonders of the BARTON SWING BRIDGE and the MANCHESTER SHIP CANAL mooring for the night in the pretty village or WORSLEY. Jac explores the WORSLEY DELPH and learns all about it’s connection with the INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION.
Finally we see the worst life in our OFF GRID FLOATING HOME… tune in to see how we get on.
    Thanks for watching.
    Jackie & Michael xx

Some stunning scenery & photography in this video. So many people miss this by not realising the canal is just the other side of the bushes/hedge. Worsley is such a pretty village & surroundings, steeped in canal/mining history - glad you enjoyed this part of the North West/Cheshire. 👍🏻

Hi, great video as always. Have you tried rubble sacks? They are intended for builders waste as they are less likely to become split by sharp bricks and the like or by wild animals. They are great for transporting waste or as a temporary store - tie the top with string or a tie wrap. You can even use a rubble sack to line a box or similar as a planter to grow tomatoes.

We picked up one dear it was big and was bloated to the point that it exploded. Luckily we were in the yard when it happened. I went green and was praying to the toilet god. Ah yes I remember that windy water spot on a corner on the Bridgewater canal. WE had a similar experience...always windy there it seems and a challenge to get alongside or depart. I do hjope you get a chance to look about Worsley some day. Its a neat spot and there's a water point there too. Not many of those on the Bridgewater. We also visited Manchester several times and really liked the place. good moorings but the Rochdale 9 are a challenge. I so enjoy your weekly videos.

    • @johnland5042
      @johnland5042 7 місяців тому +1

we did thee Rochdale 9 at least twice. They were heavy and a couple had too much trash in the lock, but that is expected in big cities. Now the Wigan flight can be heavy too, much like the Caen flight on the Kennet/Avon We doubled up with a single handed chap so my wife drove the doubled up boats while I and the other chap worked the locks. They are close enough that one can walk ahead to drain/fill the next one while the other works the lock with the two boats. Weather was good and that makes the experience a lot better. It pays to have ones act together and work as a team.

You have a bow thruster, strong enough? so in wind with no help, you loose the bow, then control the bow position with the bow thruster until positioned properly to loose the stern. same without a bow thruster really but one must loose the stern quickly, before the bow crosses the canal, and be strong enough to do so, which might put the weaker person at the helm so the stronger can loose the lines and jump aboard.

When I was younger I use to have to walk down the canal to go to school and came across a baby that had been thrown in the canal I’m afraid it has scarred me for life so when I saw your post it made me really sad and bought back memories. When I’m on our boat I’m always on the watch it’s so sad people can be so nasty.

I'm looking into narrowboat life and interested in your experience of the Bridgewater canal as I'm from Leigh and will be frequenting the marina at the lift bridge. You are correct that Leigh has mixed opinions, it definitely is a town of two halves, some old mining town problems alongside it's nicer areas like Pennington. I hope your experience was a good one 😊

Well done for phoning the Police regarding the Bag.
Unfortunately these days it could be anything.
Sadly people are abandoning their Cats and Dogs or disposing of them because they can’t afford to pay for them to be rehomed !! Many of the Shelters are requiring £150-200 per animal as a condition and contribution before they will accept a animal ( bit strange when you consider people are calling the RSPCA Shelters etc because they can’t afford their Dog or Cat anymore !! ).
Sadly it’s always the Animals who suffer the most from this Cost of Living Crisis situation and some people are struggling with the bare essentials for their pets, like Food.
We would Love a Dog but I cannot justify firstly spending out £1000’s on what we used to call Heinz 57 ?. But you have to consider Insurance and possible Vet Fees and not just the Food.
My Children are the most important ( and they cost enough lol 😂 ).

Why did you not stop and fish the bag out it could of been a baby wrapped in a fur blanket or anything I couldn’t of just left it as you know the police will not care at least you would of got peace of mind but that’s me I’m very soft and caring and would not of got it out my head it’s sad enough passing poor animals that drown as it is but at least you can see what it is. 👍

      Thank you for your comment
We called the Police who do care. They sent an officer to examine the package. The bag could have been a crime scene. There was obviously nothing alive in the bag as sad to say it smelt strongly. In our opinion It is better to call the Police unless there is an immediate chance of saving a life which there was not. 👍❤️

Did the police get in touch and let you know? I just don’t know why you had to mention it in your video that’s all it was quite upsetting to know people just go by and not care. Would it have been any different if the bag didn’t smell bad would anyone still care.

@AmandaGreenwood-ph2yo Amanda we are so sorry to hear your story, it brought a tear to our eyes 😢😢. People are just horrid. We did let the police know and deal with it, best thing to do. We thought about leaving it out of the video but we show all aspects of boat life…, it’s not all nice cruising sadly. We hope you are ok. 💕💕💕💕

I have to ask. Jackie, have you had a DNA test to see if you’re related to Paul from Narrow Boat Unlocked? You have the same mannerisms, words and reactions to what you see. I think you’re long lost siblings.
