Key animators usually where given a ton of freedom by directors and basically did whatever they wanted, usually they go nuts and draw some crazy piece of Sakuga where movement is way above the design consistency.
Yu Yu Hakusho was absolutely nuts with its tripping visuals and all of those episodes where directed by Shinbou.

My problem with the pain animation is that you can’t take pain seriously, pain is my favourite villain in the whole of naruto and one of my favourite characters, his philosophy,backstory, ecstatic, character design, symbolism and his lore itself is so satisfying to watch and emotional at times, then this fight comes, it makes pain look so goofy, many people probably laughed at this. You can’t take pain seriously during the fight. Ofc, it’s not badly animated, they can do the stretching flamboyant and chaotic animation for Naruto’s 6 tails, I don’t give a shit, that form is meant to be chaotic, unpredictable, violent and such but don’t do it for pain, makes you think what a stark contrast it would be to see Naruto’s chaotic looney toons attacks go against pains strategic, grounded and ability to equal to naruto, the contrast between the chaotic and normal would support the story as pain is obviously meant to be getting overwhelmed here.

The Pain fight looks goofy and that's why some people dislike it. And while I also think it looks kinda goofy at some moments, that's actually the charm of it. Even though Pain's face in the "My pain is greater than yours" moment is arguably getting too stretched, I think it conveys the emotions much more. Over-exaggerating motion or facial expressions is very useful to enunciate emotions more than normal.
Btw, here's another suggestion apart from the Bleach ones I gave you last time; Have you ever heard of the French cartoon called 'Wakfu' ? It's from 2008 and was animated almost entirely in Flash. But despite that, some fight scenes look amazingly good. If you ever feel like it, you could do a video on the Nox vs Grougaloragran fight from Season 1 Episode 17.
i actually think the goofy stile is perfect...we need to remember that pain was basically a puppet and it was controlled through sensory types shit so the weird movements or the lifeless aspects are perfect imo
@@antooh1167 If it was for a comedic moment, similarly to what we often saw in Nichijou, then it would have been perfect, 100%.
But imo, the overall goofiness of the animation takes the viewer away from the action, in a fight that's supposed to be significantly more serious. I don't think making the viewers laugh was the intention either, and in that regard I think the staff failed, 'cause it sure was hilarious and let's be real here, we all had at least a chuckle while watching it.
It's not the animation that is bad like most fans make fun of it for, it's the direction they took that was wildly innapropriate for the fight imo and almost turned what should have been one of the darkest moments in Naruto into a joke.

Even I heard of the great animation and wanted to see the whole series. And then the filler episodes appeared
I recently rewatched all of Naruto + Shippuden + Boruto and made the mistake to not skip filler episodes until halfway through Shippuden. Don't make the same mistake, it was miserable. Just watch the canon episodes, they are really good.

@@anujsreenivasan5040 Not really. There are however some episodes that are half-filler and half-canon which is annoying.
Later on in Boruto this gets more complicated but it'll be a while till' you get there.
As I rewatched the series I made a personal list of should-watch episodes for my girlfriend. If you are interested I can copy it in here but it is quite long.
Yeah just watch the Canon episodes, the fillers are a huge drop down in quality when Naruto has way better to offer animation wise it's a shame there are so many -_-

@@ProbablyPretentious I'd wait for Vinland Saga to end. These early episodes don't have much emphasis on action, and while they still look good, and the use of CGI cornfields is really well done, a lot of it is repeated frames or stills. EDIT: I love the environmental detail in Vinland S2, I think they've done a great job with the closeups.
It also doesn’t hurt to remember that Pein is a literal corpse and Naruto is a chakra construct for the majority of the goofy-looking scenes.
Corpses don’t move like that dawg 💀 they get ripped apart if they move the same as pain.
@@feister2869 fair enough but it’s technically “alive” and dead at the same time as well because it’s yahiko’s corpse used like a host or something like that by nagato for the six paths of pain. Just take the creative liberties in stride. There’s no real explanation for this other than what I’m saying honestly. Even this explanation is flawed. An actual live body probably would’ve broken apart under all that mechanical stress many times over in the series yet we don’t see that happening even as characters move close to light speed or whatever so don’t apply real world logic to it. We don’t see massive explosions occurring or anything like that around those fast moving people or even any impact from shattering the space-time continuum through hiraishin teleportation.

Even tho I am not a big Naruto fan, it has some of the best fight scenes easily. Animation went places for its time. People say Bleach has best fights in big 3 but I personally disagree, Naruto easily the better one (even tho I like Bleach more overall).
Also if you have nothing to make videos about atm, try some studio Ghibli stuff if you haven't already...just an idea. Like The Tale of The Princess Kaguya or Princess Mononoke. I loved the animation in both of these films. Great video

Compositing is the phase that brings all the individual components together, basically after the animation is coloured, the composite artist adds filters, digital effects blur and stuff like that
Rotoscoping is a technique where a real life footage is traced over for the animation

@@user-og6pb6dd5p Hm if you're asking I'm actually pretty new to anime,I have watched a decent amount,(by decent I mean atleast 100) .
I started following Manko and Him about 3 months ago,with help of Sakugabooru and both of them I have gained alot of knowledge about animation and anime industry,but only component that confuses me the most is compositing, otherwise I know all about how animation works.
Before having all of this knowledge I was a fucking idiot, giving wrong opinions.
Edit:Pls don't misunderstand me by term "new to anime" I was trying to say that I got into (how anime is made),the production process, about animators, a few months ago, anyone nowdays can watch anime like drinking water,so 100 animes isn't that big of a number 🙂

Especially after they released the 20th anniversary PV a lot we’re rooting for a full remake and one of the biggest reasons was that the pain vs Naruto fight was animated “badly” 🤦♂️

naruto doesn't need a remake. i bet it will never look as good as the old version. naruto has one of the best action animations and great soundtracks it's better to leave as it is. maybe it need a kai version with fast pacing.

Please clarify which show will be spoiled next time, because I assumed you were just talking about Naruto and now you spoiled Chainsaw Man for me. It's not that big of a deal in this case but it could have been really bad.
Also a question. What is difference between the production of a long running anime and a seasonal anime? And how much time is spended for an episode in a long running weekly anime.
Long running shows will obviously have less time per episode compared to a seasonal show, thus it will rely a lot more on limited animation, the amount of time required depends on the show really, but definitely less than a seasonal show. Normally multiple teams work on long running shows and the few episodes that look better than the rest are worked on for longer periods of time
@@ProbablyPretentious oh so that's why sometimes it looks better than seasonal shows lmao. For hunter x hunter 1999. Yeah sometimes it relyed on Limited Animation. (better say Quick cuts than Limited) But it looked so damn polished and sometimes the Animation looked Really amazing. Also What do you think about hxh 1999 and 2011? In Terms of direction, storyboards, storytelling, Character Designs and specially compositing. I personally perfer the 1999 version.
Long running shows have multiple teams working on their own episode, so yiu have a cycle of episodes and their creators that repeats, the one piece sakuga episode with all the famous animators comes once in like 22 episodes, and usually its pretty much the same team working on it, so that single episode had around 23 weeks for most of production and all of post production because the team that was working on the episode before, barely started on the one after. Long story short, production assistants have their own team that creates 1 episode every x weeks depending on which show ofcourse.

its so scary what naruto couldve been if it was seasonal....it had some of the best animators staff in the last 20 years...easily the best animated show by pierrot if we only take the eps made by pierrot and not from outsourced studios(even tho danzo vs sasuke was great even tho it was outsourced)

Im curious, what do you think of the animation of that one Boruto fight, episode 65 and the fight animation from dbs super broly if you've seen either of them. Also the movie bubble, not great story wise but the amount of cg they packed in that movie makes me curious if it's good or not. I don't mind cg, I can tell when cg animation is good but for me it's the cg characters that bug me the most. I find the way they move off putting and kinda tucked into the uncanny valley so personally while I can agree csm cg was good personally it doesn't stop it from feeling off from how much they stick out to the way they move which is why personally I prefer CGI to be relagated to mainly backgrounds, effects and other miscellaneous things that aren't to be heavily noticed.
I have not seen boruto, I've only seen clips from it, I haven't seen DB either so I can't really comment on those. I didn't really mind bubble's cgi, the movie used less character cgi than you think, vinland S1 is how bad the cg use could have looked but it didn't, so I was fine with it tbh

Why Naruto has really well animated fights, not all fights are like that, and there is so much of the series that is just very poor animation quality... Which is what happens when you have a weekly anime release.

Hot take(I think) "Madara Uchiha" episode(madara vs army) is like 6/10, when "Chibaku Tensei"(kurama vs pain) is 10/10 and I still watch it form time to time; I think that I don't feel the impact, yeah animation is great and all but it feels meh, the song choice is not working for me I think; also "The Last Battle" and "Naruto and Sasuke" are worth mentioning I think(or they don't have too much animation and just story carries all, don't know 🤷♀)

pain is a doll. people tend to forget that. according to the story, nagato was controlling pain.
now coming to the main point
it makes sense with how pain's animation was done, he is a doll. when you put force on a doll, its normal for them to disfigure a bit. thats the same with pain.
nagato was so enraged when he was punching that ground that pain's body couldnt keep up with the chakra rods, hence its looked like it was being stretched.
in the story line, the animation actually did make sense. but lets be honest, do people stop and think before making statements about things they dont understand? nah

Honestly my problem with the Pain fight is that the animation style just doesn't fit in that fight. This was literally one of if not the most important moments in Naruto's life. While the chaos is very good, the inhuman anatomy taken way too far in that fight and it's just off putting, though I got used to it it's still very bothering. My problem is on surface it looks way too goofy for something that's supposed to be so important. The movement is extremely good, but the look isn't
I've seen some say that Pain's flesh moving when 4 Tails Naruto hitting him and his weird movements make sense because it's supposed make him a corpse because that's what he is... I don't really get why. Like, out of all the fights we've seen with this guy not once was this ever needed to make his fights good, so giving realistic motions to his body at that point is... Unnecessary. I don't think was done well at all, except maybe the creepy eye movements. Naruto's tailed state is still jarring, but it's at least more justifiable considering this thing has all sorts of weird body movements (fight with Orochimaru), but it's still a bit off putting because this is supposed to be terrifying and even cool because you always get hyped when you see Naruto's berserk state
Though I still prefer watching this over the Manga version of the fight. It looks good but it's rather underwhelming... Like... There isn't even that much action into it. Also I'm not sure how credible this is but apparently Kishimoto suffered backlash when that episode aired because of the massive criticism of the animation, and told Pierrot to NEVER make that animation style ever again which... I don't think we ever see the inhuman anatomy thing ever again in the series

About Pain fight i don't agree. It looks a little too cartoonish in a bad way. They movement is really funny sometimes. This fight is well animated but looks like a looney tunes show

That particular fight really bugged me, also the way people reacted to it, as if it's some revolutionary piece of sakuga, it's a mediocre scene with no direction and horrendous digital effects, it's not just about the choreography, the animation isn't good either...

Something being well animated doesn’t mean that it isn’t aesthetically displeasing to look at or unfitting. The Pain fight simply isn’t good.

The animation style is cartoonish yet the fight is intended to be serious and almost tragic. You essentially get a tonal whiplash with pain acting like a literal loony toons character while saying “your pain is greater than mine”.
It’s not about whether the animation was good, but whether the style was appropriate for the tone. Considering the backlash, it evidently wasn’t.
for me it actually amplified the emotional aspect. I saw it as naturo being so stressed that the whole world was just almost just a lucid dream.
