You mean Ufotable? Also Demon Slayer isn't even close to Ufotable's beat animated show, that title goes to Fate/Stay Night Heavens Feel, nothing in Demon Slayer even compares to things like Rider Vs Salter or Salter Vs Berserker

Most people still don't realize the MAPPA took over Attack on Titan cause nobody else wanted to do season 4 in the time frame that was given, that is why MAPPA did cgi titans cause it was less time consuming, not cause they thought it would look better.
Was just about to say this myself lol. For the time they had I think they did a phenomenal job
They do be taking a lot of projects though which is a little bit unfair for their other anime pointing out to Attack on Titan, although they really did a great job and in fact did their best and a lot of people find the 4th season great which is the important thing, still if only they gave it more time we would definitely see something better if not the best.
And now MAPPA is taking leverage with the popularity of Attack on Titan. Their other works are being discover by many and becoming more popular.

When The Animation is so Good that even The Animators Can't Describe how Good it is.
We have to remember that the animators in mappa had less than a year to animate the entire season, we have to give those workers respect

@The Killcode Yeah, the people with the rights of the manga for pushing so hard for the realease date and the MAPPA executives for accepting that job knowing damn well the animators were going to suffer have all the blame of what happened with this season. There are some amazing shots, but it could have been even better with a proper shedule
mappa still shitty for accepting. aot anime production committee is already evil for creating devilish deadlines and schedule and WIT studio declined because it would hurt them and many other studio declined because of the same reason. If MAPPA didn't accept them, they would accept their mistake and elongate the deadline and schedule.
so yes we should shit on mappa because they accepted, but thank animators for their work. if you guys lick their ass and justify everything they do, you'd ruin every anime.
I'm personally not a fan of the 3d titans, because it just looks worse but I understand the whole time/budget restraints and in all fairness, it isn't bad 3D so still easily watchable. Overlord is a series where the 3d animations are just pure pain to watch, like the normal animation is great and probably where all the budget went but those 3D models definitely takes you out of the show.
If it wasn't for Mappa, we wouldn't get a final season of attack on titan. No other studio wanted it, because they didn't want to ruin the final season. Too much pressure. For Mappa, it was easier to CG the titans than to draw them with the talent they had at their studio and the time they had. That's why the final arc will be delayed so they can draw the titans this time. I truly appreciate what Mappa has done.
Well that, and they had to end season 4 part 1 at the place they did, because they were waiting for the last few chapters of the manga to end back in April. So they couldn't really continue the story beyond that point, without them ending it in the middle of a conflict. Now they ended it at the start of the conflict, and have about a year to animate and create the last 10 or so episodes and do them justice.
Makes you wonder why part one didn’t get enough time? Almost like they didn’t give a crap about how it looked.

@@dzulkarnain3853 Then it's a good thing, that you are able to do just that. Mappa added the CGI due to their strict schedule. The blue ray version won't have any CGI, and neither will season 4 part 2.
@@dzulkarnain3853 FYI lemme tell you the more the day goes most of the thing will become cg so if u got this type of mindset you are not gonna watch cg ever ur gonna be limited to more future animes (If u don't care, then what can I say). Like my father doesn't like vfx on todays anime like fate series, He liked handdrawn vfx of Op, Dbz. And now were the generation that came to like vfx but can't take cg. But the next generation will like cg as it will progress across the anime industry and you can't do nothing about it. It's budget friendly time saving. And we're seeing the 1st generation of cg so it will look bad. But at the time goes it will eventually get good
Mob psycho is literally a masterclass amalgamation of several talented young artists celebrating their medium
AOT actually had 3D environments with 2D characters for ODM scenes all the way to the first time. Before they released season 1 they already had that technique established, it was a decision they made instead of full 3D scenes.
The Levi scene was far from the first time.

Mob psycho is probably one of the most imaginative animes ever, they can have like 5 different styles of animation in one episode it's rad
Huh? No no no, you're getting confused. What you see in mob are sakugas. Mob psycho has a ton of sakuga every now and then. This isn't unique to the world of anime, anime from the 1900s till now have had a lot of sakuga implemented in their shows. Essentially a sakuga is a scene that differentiates itself compared to the rest of the scenes in having unique points of view, different artstyle, different animation style and typically more fluid animation than what the anime usually does.
Sure mob's animation is very good but you must also pay attention to the art style which has a lot to do with how they handle the animation style. Mob Psycho's art style is very well made and unique and it's super artistic full of talented artists.
So mob psycho is probably one of the most uniquely made animation style due to its artstyle and amount of sakuga they have.
Also something else i wanna say is that sakuga are usually made by one specific talented artist that either works for the company or is one for hire which is always being asked to complete jobs from many different anime. That also explains why sakuga has a bit of a different art style in general, it's cause it's a specific artist's art style.

The moment where shimizaki vs everyone for me is the best
My favorite perspective shot in AOT is when Armin is helping Eren climb out of the underground crystal ceremony catacombs. Armin is above ground and reaches down to grab Eren’s arm. He looks gigantic in this split second which I totally believe it’s foreshadowing him to become the Colossal Titan.
10:12 In here, Eren transformed for the second time in a row after he sealed the wall. Transformation consumes a lot of energy and when he does, his titan form gets smaller. They actually mentioned it on the show before. Idk if the animators thought of that, but it might be the reason.

@@albertow9123 Episode 38 (S3E1) 4:25 into the episode Levi says Erens transformation is only 10 meters tall that time. Sub and Dub are both consistent on that fact too.
The colossal titan is also weirdly proportioned where his legs are huge and thick compared to his head and body which also makes wren look smaller

Something that really hit me was the way they did eyes in Violet Evergarden during the more emotion felt moments. You could actually see the emotion in their eyes and I feel as though capturing something like that is so hard for animators and artists to do.
Violet Evergarden has some of the most beautiful and realistic animations in it with how some of the perspectives are. It's just pure eye candy to watch.
It's also a audio orgasm persecond a visual orgasm per frame ect

It actually took me ages to realize the titans had actually become CGI. if only they used the same stuff for the berserk anime instead of the horrible butchering they did.
I’m still haunted by the berserk anime till this day
Luckily I stopped at the opening scene in ep1
The titans being CG was like the first change I've noticed. They feel a lot "lighter" if that makes sense. Their movements are a lot faster and they don't feel as massive as they felt the 3 previous seasons.
Honestly the berserk anime was the final straw that took me to the realization that if I wanted to experience berserk, I had to read the manga

Violet Evergarden, or anything made by the studio Kyoto Animation. They went through some heartbreaking stuff after what happened to their studio and deserve some love.

I also agree with Violet Evergarden cause the animation techniques they did where so interesting. They used 3d modeling for the background's and objects and then animate over everything and insert the characters into the scenes after.
I agree with basically anything made by Kyoto Animation. In my opinion, the performance by Kitauji in season 2, episode 5 of Hibike! Euphonium is one of the best animated scenes ever made.

A ground breaking anime is demon slayer in the sense that it can blend 2d and 3d anime seamlessly. An example is the chase down with Tanjiro and Rui in episode 19 as well as the first episode where Tanjiro is running through the forest
Demon Slayer was made by ufotable which also used the cgi blending with the fate series way before demon slayer.
Demon slayer has good animation, but it's definitely not groundbreaking. Do some research first.

Houseki no Kuni/Land of the Lustrous must be one of the groundbreaking anime. I don't know much about CGI, but that's one of the most unique drawing and a complete masterpiece. I think they integrate a lot of CGI with drawings, but-- I just want to hear more from professional animators standpoint!

Loved hearing this from an insider perspective! For something groundbreaking in anime check out any missile sequence from Macross/Robotech. I think they did it first but you see this type of immersive tracking in even anime now.
I think some of my favorite bits of cool animation came from Space Dandy. They got different animators for each episode so each one has its own look and feel and they really pushed the style a lot in each episode.
Demon Slayer: the way the artistically blend CGI to help visualize combat with 2D is crazy good (Also won an award for best animation of the year 2019)

Eren’s attack titan looked small because that episode eren transformed countless times and i remember them mentioning that once a titan shifter transforms too many times, the titan would look a bit smaller than it would usually do.

Not only is its one of the landmark Magical Girl anime with a beautiful story. But the animation in the Labyrinths, the way the Witches are drawn. The surreal, patchwork style animation is just incredible and would probably be really fun to get an animators opinion on
Violet Evergarden has incredible detail in every frame of animation. Each scene feels like a painting that took hours upon hours to draw. It's beautiful and the emotions in it are just as intense

The different titan look for wren kinda seems pretty cool, cause later him as a character changes, so his titan looking different fits
Redline's intesity and sense of speed in some scenes made me literally hold my breath, it was also ENTIRELY hand drawn and was probably one of the last anime movie ever to be made that way because it took 7 years and nearly sunk the studio

For the next episode I would recommend reviewing mushoku tensei. It has amazing cg that blend and pair perfectly with the hand drawn images. The hand drawn images are also amazing. I think Bind studio did a perfect job and poured their heart in it. It can definitely match up against top tier studios like ufotable, Mappa, madhouse,etc

To be honest, I think Mushoku Tensei would be the most deserving of coverage, because of the effort put into the smallest of scenes. Like in in episode one, where Rudeus first attempts at magic are beautifully animated to a point, where I think it might be the best looking magic ever done in animation(08:33, 13:20, ep.2, 05:38, 18:06), the same applies to Roxys magic(ep. 1, 17:37, ep.2, 16:35), in episode 3 (14:09), as well as to Sylphies magic. And that’s still ignoring all the gorgeous, lively character animation and the stunning background drawings. I also think Mushoku Tenseis training scenes (good examples in episodes 6 (10:18), 7(00:00), 10(00:00),12(07:08) and 21(02:20)), deserve a lot of credit, seeing how they are not really important to the story: You could just have the characters talk about training or show a few still frames instead of actually animating them, yet instead those scenes are better animated than most series finales. That said, those finales do hit hard, although there not really being a final battle, since the stories most integral parts aren’t necessarily it’s fights. Also, showing the fight in episode 21 (later in the episode) would kinda spoil a lot, so it’s probably not to good to review.

Any show made by Ufotable studios (Fate Series, Kimetsu no Yaiba) is just a blessing. They're probably the only studio as of now that can blend 3dcg with their spectacular 2d animation smoothly not to mention how great their art direction is
Seconded, the fight scenes in the 3rd Fate: Heavens Feel film were on a whole other level, my jaw was on the floor

Mushoku was abolutley snubbed this year for best animation. It was objectively better than Demon Slayer on a technical level.

I’d love to see you react to and bring animators to join for the Demon Slayer movie’s fight scenes on the Mugen Train. (Demon Slayer: Mugen Train) is the movie. The way story and energy are expressed is truly delightful, stylized, and represents tremendous amounts of effort.
The fight between Asuka and the other Eva's in the End of Evangelion is still one of the best anime scenes of all time. The whole show is super groundbreaking.

I feel that Mob Psycho 100 was a groundbreaking anime because they used so many different styles of art and animation. Also Yu Yu Hakusho had the greatest tournament arc of all time.
The fight with the teleporting psychic (i forget his name) in s2 is one of the cleanest fights I’ve seen
Even the opening and credits are displays of older types of animation, and it's story integrated with the animation extremely well, it's not just shoehorned in. All the spirits and ghosts have really different types of animation based on whether they're malicious or passive, and the powers are easy to gouge purely from the visual representation.

I have a suggestion for an anime themed episode(s). Anime that have been remade with updated and completely different art styles. Some of my favorite animes are remakes of the originals so there are:
- Fate/Stay Night (2004) and Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works (2014). The running joke in the anime community is that Ufotable flexes their budget using this anime and you can see why (a personal favorite)
- Full Metal Alchemist (2003) and Full Metal Alchemist:Brotherhood (2009)
- Hunter X Hunter (1999) and Hunter X Hunter (2011). Another personal favorite.
- Dororo (1969) and Dororo (2019). Because who doesn’t love a good throwback
- Beserk (1997) and Beserk (2016)
I think in season 4 part 2 they really honed in the CG usage well, because I don't get the same feeling of "that looks kinda weird, but whatever" at all in any of the battle scenes. It's pretty much exactly what you guys were talking about at 13:40, they were trying to make things more *realistic* feeling by doing things like motion-tracking animation, more weighty movements, etc, but it just doesn't track with the shows animation till that point. That for me as all but absent in part 2, it feels like they went back to doing what made AoT shine and have its flare.

It brought Anime to the western world and showed people of the west that animation isn’t just for kids. Plus it looks incredible.

violet evergarden when she jumps over the lake, honestly its actually insane how beautiful it is. I love the show because the things that are happening in it (like the wars and soldiers dying and the soldiers parents getting the news) happen in real life too. every episode hits you with an emotion train

The scale of the titan at 10:17 is changing because the japanese animations are mostly done by freelance animator working from their places, so there's little or not control of the actual work until it's delivered to the studio. It's the animation director's role to fix the issues ( bad design, scale, poor timing etc...) but when you're out of time, you just let the cut in without correction because the schedules are so tight. Plus, you can have one single cut drawn by a certain artist and the following one by another one. One of them can read the e conte ( storyboard ) and decide his character has to be tall enough to grab the giant titan at his ankle while the second one will decide that the correct size allows the hero to seize the knee.
I feel you guys should do another Anime reaction video. I just watched the latest episode of Ranking of Kings (ep. 21), and I must say this episode's animation is by far some of the best animation I've seen.

I think Fate, specifically the Heaven's Feel movies, is a better showcase for Ufotable. Don't get me wrong, Demon Slayer looks amazing, but their movies are on a completely different level.

Redline is probably the most influential but underrated anime film. It’s animation was completely ahead of it’s time. Just perfect animation and mind blowing perspective and breathtaking fluidity

Kimetsu no Yaibu aka Demon Slayer’s studio is well-known omg in Japan. Naruto has really good animation and it’s well-known for the hand-to-hand combat which is called taijutsu. I think Mushoku Tensei as well since it was a special case where these two studios I believe worked together and gosh dang the animation. There’s so many other series😭
Lightbulb moment, like a spark in my brain. Alex brings fun and interesting insights, I never realized how much film relies on jumpcuts, while animation relies on transitionary movement with the respective visual space.
Anything Satoshi Kon has done is groundbreaking. The man’s mind was incredible, and he’s the reason we have movies like Black Swan and Inception.
Definitely, and Kon’s use of editing is next level, kind of a subtle heightening of live action editing beyond its limitations by using animation.
Kon was amazing, too bad he's not here with us anymore.

Jujutsu Kaisen Itadori and Todo vs Hanami
This fight shows the distorted zoom perspectives of each member(how Levi's face can be a 30mm lens, and his foot is an 8mm lens), how energy is used for transportation when todo claps or uses his ability (the effects for it are amazing), and how Hinami uses its cursed energy attacks, Hinami's attacks are spread throughout the entirerty of the screen using a lot of detail in "Pencil Mileage". Plus when Saturo Gojo uses hollow purple at the end, shows how eastern culture uses energy and the intensity from it to really pull the viewer in.

my favorite anime fight scene ever
Berserk 2016 is the pinnacle of top notch quality animation, nothing comes close to such a breathtaking blend of cgi and hand drawn animation. I'll be quite frank, it puts Akira and Ninja Scroll to shame in terms of quality and heart. Truly a masterclass of skill which will be studied for generations in universities and the upper echelon classes on the arts.
I would have to argue that the work ufotable managed in the heavens feel movies outclasses any other animation ever.
Jujutsu Kaisen has some insane animation, notably the fight between Maki and Mai. I feel like that scene costed more than the whole of some older anime’s 💀
The fight scene between Azula and Zuko in AtLA is legitimately fantastic in my opinion. The animation AND choreography are so fluid and interesting. Unlike any other fight scene I've seen in animation.

Mob Psycho 100 is a really unique anime. Incredible action, fascinating mixed-media animation methods, just out of this world levels of style. I recommend the fight vs Shimazaki (aka the teleporter) from season 2.
I think I'd recommend the fight against the Scar in the alley in season 1. The Shimazaki fight is great, but the alley fight is just insane

In my opinion Violet Evergarden is one of the anime that have the best animation quality. The movements are smooth, the drawings are beautiful and the music is wonderful.
Fun Fact: The Kenny vs Levi fight scene took the studio 8 months to animate.

@@tccutthroat5961 no shade on MAPPA, because it’s primarily the production committee’s fault that S4 was rushed, but we would have gotten a fourth season, with or without them. Thinking no MAPPA=no season 4 makes no sense. Hopefully the Blu-ray release corrects some of the off-looking moments.
People hate on MAPPA because they were money hungry and rushed S4. Its that simple. Should’ve let WiT take their time with it.
The Violet Evergarden staff literally reinvented how the studio animates using blender. And Beastars pushes the boundaries of cg animation; I don't remember the specifics, but the did something impressive with the facial expressions.

Check out Redline, its one of my favorite animated movies of all time produced by Madhouse. The whole thing you guys talked about with japanese animation having emphasis on energy, this movie is absolutely filled to the brim with that. It took 7 years to produce with around 100,000 drawings.
You guys should take a look at Princess Mononoke by Studio Ghibli, especially the fight at the beginning, the end of that battle allways freaked me out as a kid.

It was a long time before I found out Perfect Blue and Paprika were both by Satoshi Kon (while also learning his other works). I would love to see Paprika broken down for how it manages to bend our minds.
I would absolutely love to see CC react to Satoshi Kon's movies. I think they'd especially appreciate Millennium Actress for the way that it uses the language of cinema for visual characterization.
Death Note was probably the one that really got me into anime. The exageration, intense animation and dramatic music when he's only writing something or just eating a potatochip is pretty darn great

A lot of the older gibli studio films leading with "shihiro" would be cool... Because they are so good in capture a certain type of mood, which takes you into this dream worlds, in every shot and through out the whole movies... The movements I find also have something different to a lot of the animes today... Something warm and pleasing to look at.. Storytelling of course...
Asuka vs the mass-production Evas in End of Evangelion. Actually, almost any of End of Evangelion is groundbreaking, but that fight has such incredible animation

Great pick! In that scene you can feel the mass of an an eva and the pilots struggle to control it like never before... a true animation masterpiece ! Also the rebuild series could make a great subject for a future animators react video, with its production spanning 15 years of progress in CG animation. And there’s some making-of material on the BRs :)
I didn't pay much attention to stellar animation before this fight scene but I audibly reacting when seeing it. The sheer scale of the EVAs is perfectly conveyed and ugh the sound is on point and it's all 2d if I remember correctly. Loved End of Evangelion and thought it was an amazing end to the series. So many compelling themes come crashing together; Love, eternity, loss, parents, friends, connection, grief, god, the pending apocalypse. All tied beautifully together.
They shifted to CGI in season 4 because they had a very tight schedule. They switched studios very suddenly and Mappa had around a year to get everything done. They had a lot of work done in 2d but ultimately had to replace everything (titans and fights) with 3d because they were running out of time. If they had given Mappa 1 more year, it would've been all done in 2d. And if you look up the the storyboard and rough animation on UA-cam, you'll be amazed and kinda pissed because it didn't end up in the final cut. The producers were pushing studio WIT too hard, they weren't giving them enough time and they had to quit the project. Producers did the same with Mappa, they didn't give them enough time.

I honestly think its amazing what levels hand drawn animation has reached, because if you think about it logically it kind of seems like an impossible art form to master outside of short and simple bursts.

They did it so good its because they did on the same room/studio so they could give some feedback/polish on their cgi team meanwhile most of studios when they're using 3DCGI, they outsourced it on another studio

don't forget the famous demon slayer fights. Anything by ufotable is legendary for their action scenes.
showcasing the fights from either Heaven's feel 2 Berserker vs Saber alter or Heaven's feel 3 Rider vs Saber alter, they both are so far ahead of almost any other anime in quality when it comes to blending fx with traditional antimation.

Berserk's CGI is 500x better than the fate series
For a recommendation: basically anything studio Ufotable does. They blend in cgi background and particle effects so well with regular drawn animation. For them cgi is not an afterthought because drawing something would be too difficult for time consuming, it is an actual asset that determines a lot of what they want to animate. I personally like anything Fate so I will recommend Saber Vs Berserker from Fate Stay Night UBW as well as Saber Alter Vs Berserker and Rider Vs Saber Alter from Fate Stay Night Heavens Feel.
