The fact that the rainbow coalition didn't see the backlash coming is actually surprising. They've been shoving this into our faces for years. The vast majority of straight people are just tired of it. We let it happen out of fear, now we're finally standing up to these people. They overstepped when they involved children.

I think a lot of gay people have had enough too. Most of them are not the camp performative narcissists that dominate the media. Most of them just want acnormal life and not to be defined by who they sleep with.
They thought they had the world at their fingertips... it's because shifts like this take time and are often generational. Now that people have lived long enough with the insanity, the younger generations are saying "What? Nope." It was only a matter of time of course, but their own messed up psyches and priorities never allowed them to consider... maybe backing off just a little? Now they've forced society's hand in reeling back the madness.

Companies shouldn't care about the gender, sexuality, race, religion, creed, or political leanings of their customers. Everyone should be just treated the same. No discrimination, positively or negatively. If I'm going to a store to buy a hammer, I don't GAF whether the employees are sensitive to my particular cultural background, beliefs or bedroom preferences. I just want good customer service and good products.

To change it there will be required de-ideology courses and throwing out the entire upper echelon that allowed it to happen and replace it with hardcore christians. Does this mean that these companies determined that supporting ANY cause results in more business? I figured they'd probably lose as much revenue from existing customers who are opposed to 'the cause', as they'll gain from New Customers who Support 'The Cause'?
I'm very surprised that a strictly profit focused study doesn't show that business would ultimately be more consistent/better if the corporations just remained completely NEUTRAL. Rather than 'taking a side', which is certain to upset SOMEONE. If they're simply looking for publicity, maybe just make the same contribution to BOTH Political Parties!
The lesson goes all the way back to New Coke: when you have a successful company, you can expand product ranges or services without too much risk (although exceptions apply), but DO NOT mess with your core values or products. Literally, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Obviously TSC execs didn't ask the most obvious questions:
-Do alphabet people represent a market share we are currently missing out on?
Probably not. It's only a tiny percentage of the consumer market, and they likely already shop with TSC.
-What is the value of that share?
Per the above, it's vanishingly small or non-existent. On the balance, it will cost more to attract it than it is worth to the bottom line. Certainly not worth the risk to TSC's current market share (see Gillette, Bud Light etc for real world examples of companies who have tried this.)
-Are we missing out on it because of something we are actively doing as opposed to simply not doing something? No, alphabet people are treated the exact same as all the other customers. But DEI initiatives will definitely result in a negative backlash from the existing customer base (again, see Gillette, Bud Light, etc.).
-Will trying to capture that market segment harm existing market performance?
Yes. Very much so. DO NOT DO IT.

TSC is a company that sells to "homesteaders" and hobby farmers mostly. Within the farming industry, TSC's impact is negligible in that marketplace. At a time when a tractor costs $125,000 - $200,000 and a combine costs $300,000 - $500,000 the only things a pro farmer will go there for is a pail of Rotella or some plumbing fittings on a Sunday. TSC is a big box mall type of store that tried to see which way the wind was blowing and failed.

The suburbanites who shop TSC are alienated. Big R and Rural King are reaping the benefits. Perhaps the denizens of Brentwood TN, the pricier bit of Nashville, should pay attention to their customer's needs and stop making assumptions about what "those people" are like.

I have only shopped at TSC one time. They had an item I could not find elsewhere. I was not impressed with the customer service and have not been back. I don’t give a damn about the demographic or politics of the employee when I go shopping, but I do expect competent customer service. TSC failed. Apparently they were too focused on DEI instead of running an effective business.

For ANY consumer, the primary concern is whether the company selling them expensive products and services is focused on the quality and fitness of those products, not on who is fooling around with who up in the hay loft.
To any rational human, corporate DEI/ESG is obviously a doomed prospect, but for some reason C suite execs across the land fail to understand this most basic of consumer motivations: when making a purchase we want to know that the salesperson knows about the product they are selling us, not that they know way too much about who we like to bone. It's irrelevant and actually extraordinarily creepy.
“Tractor Supply” also supplies road tractors… you know: Those things we might call “18-wheelers” when they have a trailer?
There are other places to shop like Southern State. All should be welcome and safe.
TSC needs to focus on product pricing and customer service. LGBTQIA+ Is fine - as long as it is equal with other groups and efforts.
