In today's video, we'll be test fitting the RB25 for the first time! This is a rather long video because there was so much to do and discuss. After getting the engine in place, we fit the transmission, manifolds and more to check clearance and to get a better idea of what needed to be fine tuned. Everything still has to come back out in order to paint the bay and finish a bunch of other stuff. It's an incredibly satisfying feeling to finally be at this point. This car is going to be so sweet!

Today I’ve just been watching Engines. Car Throttle with the RX8 Rotary rebuild, The Savage garage, Tavarish and YOU with the 240SX fitting. I’m in awe.
Avais Hussain Thanks so much for watching!!
Speed Academy and Tavarish too
Watch tommyfyeah with his rx-8 lsx build
Omg I’m watching everything your watching!
Watch evan shanks, motion auto tv and b is for build to feel more complete
I said it before but I'll say it again, THANK YOU for NOT doing yet another run-of-the-mill Chevy LS V8 swap. This RB25 swap is a perfect match for the 240SX body, and this model year 240SX my favorite with it's pop-up headlights. I have been a Datsun/Nissan fan and owner since the 1960s and this build is what I always look forward to seeing. Mahalo from Hawai'i.
Thanks so much my friend, I really appreciate the support!
I appreciate this calm, no obnoxious pop music, no insane jumpcuts approach to showing a build. How it REALLY with two intelligent people solving problems and walking prospective undertakers of a similar project through the issues and showing them a fantastic template. QUALITY auto video right here. Please keep this up through the rest of the project. Subbed
Heat shield for master cylinder, blanket for the housing, wrap the manifold. Luckily we don't have this problem on UK cars. Great work as always guys 👍
Told you man, you're best bet is to go a tucked rad setup. Kalvin Mali from KalvinsGarage has one done with keeping his pop up headlights, maybe contact him and get some more info. And i'm pretty sure the chasebays one still works with the pop ups even though it says it doesn't.
Adrian Alvarez I really like the chase bays setup the best but I’m afraid to buy it and lose the popups. It’s a lot of money to take a chance on. Thanks for the suggestion!
Talk to Kalvin Malli for sure! I believe Instagram is the best place to reach him
@@saabkyle04 then contact kalvin or that dude in blue (david) and see what their running. Kalvin bought a off the shelf radiator and tucked it without issue. and I'm pretty sure david got the chase bays one and still kept the popups. It will be worth the headache.
@@saabkyle04 Yeah agreed Kalvin Malli has a great set up. Ask him about is Brake line set up too.
Agreed
A Skyline engine on a 240SX? Sounds cool.
Yeah dude, it's super sick!!
@@saabkyle04 When it's done I wanna hear it roar!
I'm sooooo pumped!!
@@saabkyle04 Hahaha~ Me 2. XD
Sounds like a nice plan + I've lived in Japan 03-'05
The OE carrier bearing for the driveshaft has a built in vibration isolator. That’s the reason for the 2 piece shaft. I was just talking with one of our design engineers and he doesn’t know of any other reason for this. Have fun! 👍
That's what I figured, I appreciate you asking about that! Always learning something new, thanks buddy!
In terms of the Radiator, the other thing you could possibly do is tuck it under where it mounts normally. Only thing is you might have to get aftermarket hood latches because I think it makes you delete the factory one.
I think the Chase Bays one fits perfectly with only needing to modify the bottom support. The downside in my case it that it apparently doesn't work with the popup headlamp motors.
I'm putting 2jz in my s13 and from what I saw and found is that you cut the top of the radiator support around a inch and a half or so and then tilt the radiator forward to be able to fit the fans. I haven't gotten to that part yet but I believe that's what that dude in blue did.
This video has been entertaining and educational.
Anyone who plans to do an engine swap on this or any car should see these and other series. Swaps can be fun, but they are not easy, cheap, nor plug-and-play. It takes careful planning and making things that are supposed to fit fit well.
I do have to comment on some of your other videos of this project, because I got questions and things I gotta say.
It will be a sweet ride, once finished. Hope my take on a restomod is, at least, half as good as yours.
Everyone with a swapped s13 owns a sledge hammer. Don’t be scared lol
Hahaha seems that way
Aww gave the little block I6 skyline engine a big hug And Nice small turbo kit looks cute engine looks nicly cute ☺😊 love the vids
Hahaha yeah buddy!!
Welcome to the 240 game where nothing ever fits right. Always have to get creative
Hahaha yeah
Suggestion with the radiator, cut into the front cross brace and fabricate a few braces to retain the structure from what you cut, this way your radiator is move forward and then you have the space for your fans. I wanna say that Adam LZ did that with one of his cars and I believe it worked out well.
Kyle the turbo was on backwards also invest in heat isolation for either the turbo housing or the manifold. The best setup for ceramic coating on turbo components would be manifold and turbo and mayhaps the downpipe if its close to lines (i.e brake lines , fuel lines ) or sensitive components (i.e brake booster and master cylinder and starter )
Hahaha really? That's funny. I thought about that too, the ceramic coating. I think that's just a must at this point. The stainless look is really nice, but that heat has gotta get contained somehow. Thanks dude!!
@@saabkyle04 Your welcome by the way I read that Nissan opened some sort of heritage engine program for the RB series and Skyline GTRs' in general you may be able to source new engine components from them now. Edit: just realized that the core was taken off the turbo housing I felt dumb for a moment
Ohh yeah haha, it's all good. I heard about that too. Should be easier to get parts over time (hopefully)!
@@saabkyle04 get a turbo blanket for the turbine and add some gold tape heat shield for extra bling 😂 and i think you'll need heat shield around brake booster like adam lz s13 and fire shield for critical lines won't hurt though.
I love how happy he is about it. It's so nice to see that engine in that bay finally.
Definitely my favorite S chassis build outta the numerous ones there have been.
Hey Kyle if you need a new cam gear cover and spark plug cover, carbon fiber is the way to go.
This series is becoming more and more interesting.
Saabkyle just a suggestion but ditch the factory rb25det oil cooler for a filter relocation with a cooler plumbed into the lines will make your motor last a lot longer and will allow you to add sensors alot easyier.
Rb25 factory coolers suffer from terrible heat retention
I planned on doing that at some point. The engine needs to be started without one first, but afterwards, it can be added. Thank you!!
Yeah my rb 30 was a pain when I ran the rb25 stock cooler and just ditched it completely for about a year before I got a relocation kit
Hey Kyle, I’m sorry to hear about the loss of Papa Slim. I will be praying for you and your family.
That car is the ultimate Nissan, it's crazy clean and well done.
In my opinion, the ultimate Nissan is a stock R34.....
@@AustinMBecker no a nissan 270 fairlady 1972 ? That is a ultimate nissan ;) haha no but i think every nissan sportcar is = ultimate
Thanks Alex! That's the goal!
Also for the radiator, just notch the core support. I can send you pics of what i did with my 1jz swapped S13 if you'd like.
I’m more of a truck or 4x4 guy, but this car really gets me going! Nice work mate!
I was impressed by what you have done so far, waiting for the end of the project. I can not wait to see how the car will look like at last .
I got to admit I kinda enjoy seeing you nervous 😆
guliverovi Hey, it’s real life I suppose haha 🤣
I just did this to my s13, r32 crossmemy r32 engine brackets and mounts is the best way to do it no sledge hammer needed .
Congratulations Kyle,I am pretty sure that every difficulty that you find in this engine swap you are going to solve it with the best way possible!!awesome work awesome man and character.
The classic fan, greetings from Greece!!!keep going dude!
Here's an idea. How about switch positions of your hvac controls and the touch screen. That shifter might get in the way.
The cooling and master cylinder look a tight fit, hope there are work arounds. The engine look looks sharp a long with the headers and intake manifold.
id reccomend cutting the radiator support moving the rad forward and then you can fit the fans
Beautiful lighting, whatever you are doing don't change a thing!
Thank you!!
At first I was like, "woooow duude", but that goatee really suits you Kyle. That said, I can't wait to see the engine bay repainted and looking as pristine as the engine itself
Look into a turbo blanket to help with the heat. And I dont have a heatshield with my rb25 s13 but alot ot drifters build one out of sheet metal around the brake master. Also look into the chase bays tucked radiator. Gives you plenty of room for fans or even the stock clutch fan with shroud.
I see you are worried about losing popups, I actually am going to run a Griffin radiator under the core support. If you look at Kevin mali s rb20 s13 build he shows the rad that I got and it is a bit smaller than the chasebays. Havent got mine in yet I'm still running pusher fans. But if I get to it before you I'll give an update.
Put a turbo jacket and an aluminum heat shield for the boster it will be fine or a custom manifold to move the turbo a little bit to the front.
Now for the radiator just cut the metal where the hood latch is a couple cm to clear the fans
6:30 Imagine the engine lift bolts cracking the block, nightmare :D
What a glorious engine in a superb car. Wishing you luck, but you know what you’re doing 👌🏼😎
Melted my brake master on my 240sx w/ an SR20 when I went top mount turbo. Getting a turbo blanket definitely fixed that problem the second time around. I would also heat shield wrap the master and brake lines as well too if you can.
I was waiting for the clutch to be installed lol
Kyle, please review a fire truck on your channel I had something different you haven’t reviewed an emergency vehicle before
A slight dent in the turbo manifold won't hurt performance, maybe aesthetically but nothing you would ever notice power wise.
1. Dont paint the engine bay satin black, Shave the bay of all unnecessary holes, brackets, holders etc, and respray it in OEM color. Check Jimmyoakes videos of that process, he has done a lot of those videos so far.
2.Adam LZ has good tips about the Master brake cylinder kombo, and good tips about shielding etc.
3. The clearance for the manifold is easily done with some minor grinding on the bracket.
4. Oil dip stick can be bent, but be careful not to kink it, use a socket to bend against.
5. radiator fan support: Make or buy a flat radiator fan support...a non-boxed one version of the one you got right now. , if you want more clearance, you move the brackets, för the radiator more towards the front and modify the radiator support to give it more clearance.
Please please please do not run pushers!! Ive been down that path with mine. Unfortunately your best option is cutting the core support and moving the radiator forward and running the clutch fan with gk tech fan blade upgrade or a Ford Taurus electric fan. and I would get a different booster. I do not think its needed. I am running stock booster and z32 brake master and Im running cts v front 4 pistons and 4 z32 rears.
Contour fans work also. The Lincoln Mark 8 fans pull a ton of air too.
You should make a shield for the brake booster. It look uncomfortably close to the exhaust.
I know, it's definitely going to need a shield. I don't want to delete it because the brakes feel awesome as it is and I've heard a BBE kit is a terrible idea for a street car.
Get ahold of Emelia Hartford. She's been putting a RB in a S13. She maybe able to help you with some info. She's a UA-camr too.
Also invest in heat shield for you brake booster, you will heat your brake fluid an have brake issues, plus keep chance of fire down. Adam lz cream 240 caught fire once because of the heat
Do a Chasing Bays brake booster elimination kit, it’ll definitely help with the clearance for downpipe
Dude I haven't seen you in a cool min! Looks like you lost a little weight too bro. I'm enjoying this build series, keep up the videos!
Nice goatie
Get rid of the mount the fans are on and mount them right to the radiator save you a few inches. Get some radiator mounting brackets
Engine looks cool in there
Dude, DO NOT put that brace on there that close to that PS line. PS Fluid is very flammable, if that line ruptures, its going to be directly below your exhaust manifold and the fluid will spray out at a high pressure. This can and likely WILL burn that car to the ground. Please either remove that brace, have a custom one made, or notch the OEM brace with an angle grinder.
Loving this build, man. this is easily my favorite S-Chassis build on youtube.
One of the best UA-cam channel
Chase Bays makes a tucked radiator kit for the 240sx but its a tad bit expensive.
Video Idea: Do a Interior detail video on the GMC Jimmy by gutting and cleaning under the carpet like the Nissan 240SX
Simply amazing!
That RB25 looks fantastic! I like it so much.
Good jab and I'm waiting to see your cars after this project
Good luck
Kyle finally took his homies advice ! F#%k the safety glasses and ear plugs !!! He’s a gangsta NOW ! I look forward to all your vids Kyle ! Real Talk .. I can’t wait to see the work y’all will do to the s10 !!
That is really sweet man and looks hard but fun work to install a new engine nicely done Bud
I had trouble with my Full race manifold hitting the engine bracket motor mount, Had to grind it down down.
Talk to kalvin malli he had an RB in his 240sx. He could probably answer most of your answers. He has some awesome videos on it too.
Am really happy to see this video, been waiting for it. All the best for you and your projects in future.
Thanks so much!
Hey man i just wantes to say nice wheel choice bro, they look sick on that car va the ugly stock wheels. Can't wait to see the finished restoration, your car is gonna be amazing bro.
i miss the old Saabkyle04
Love the progress on the 240sx so far, for the crank cover maybe you could consider putting rb26 valve cover and crank cover on your rb25? It only requires a small amount of modification from what I heard.
What made you choose the satin black over the oem midnight purple already there? It'll also make the car look more unique but factory original if, essentially, the entire bare frame of the car was that color, instead of parts of it just being black or whatever. Great progress on the swap so far!
Loving the series and the beard Kyle!
Thanks dude!
Does the 240sx have bluetooth satellite radio backup camera and lane departure warning.
Oh you mean the( i cant drive pack ) its a mean gene driving machine . No one shud have that extra stuff
Lololol
I wonder what brackets he is using on the engine side? They don't look like the stock brackets that i know
Overall great build! The Syko mounts are genius!
i bet you could use a bunch of washers to space the aluminum tray
Great Work Kyle. I admire the progress
Sweet motor Kyle
How do you choose what you are working on next/next video is about? Just parts coming in and work done? Channel diversity?
Coin flip
guliverovi Trying to keep it diverse. That’s why I want multiple projects, gives me stuff to bounce between. I like to keep myself busy so this helps haha. Parts availability, scheduling and money are also factors haha.
The RB is surprisingly compact then you see it without manifolds turbo etc.
It is, that extra stuff takes up a lot of room haha
I have an S13 - had to massage (hammer time ! ) a few things as well.
Saabkyle went from looking fresh outta med school to a guy that works in parts at Benz with an insta for his s14 drift build
The car is coming along great Kyle!
Restoring the 240SX one hammer blow at a time.
I wish you would go back to doing car start ups and ones on older cars.
That was awesome i was looking forward to this for so long can't wait to see the end result awesome job
Just curious if you've ever linked up with kalvins garage? I think he changed it to kalvin malli. I'm sure he could give you alot of pointers on this build. Can't wait to see this done
Man you need to finish this thing already
Excellent, looking for more
Thank you!
I have been waiting for a new video from you, thanks Kyle!
The joys of engine swaps lol been there few times. Great video keep it up.
Make sure when you are finished you take an in depth review of interior and exterior
that's looking cool already!!!!! 😊😊😊😊😊😊
Slowly but surely!
yep!!! 😊😊😊😊
I bet that thing’s going to be a belter with a Skyline (Straight-6?).
Greetings from Brazil, congratulations for the excellent project, congratulations.
Hey Kyle can you please buy a Skyline? Or even a salvage Skyline? I’m a big fan of them and I would want to to do a restoration for it. Thanks!
Nice dude! Engine bay looks beautiful with the red block cover :)
Wow that is so nice I wish I had money to do something that beautiful
I use a shield for my brake booster and i also when i got a carbon vented hood my temps dropped about from 210 to 180
It’s just so hard to find Skyline GT-Rs that haven’t been riced.
Good job. Am happy to see how the project coming. But when i see the fitment Issue with the radiator. Am down. I think the Custom thin radiator will be great. Try this. I hope it’s work.
I see couple of your videos. I like what you do. You are great and nice guy. Keep going and i wish you very best luck. And have a nice day
I have helped a few friend's put bigger engines in many car's the body clearance to belhouseing try to roll it round more but you will improve cooler air flow to get rid of out side heat at the back end of engine doing well test fitting is much better than not you now know what problems you now face when final fitting let's say after painting out the engine bay add extra earth's points to the body for the engine's and gear box today's computer's for engine's must have great earth's or you get lots of errors I not long watch a you tube video that had a bad earth and the dealerships could not fault find the problem have fun and take time you will get there
Thank you so much Mark!
This is just amazing content, Kyle. Good job!
Are you going to rebuild the RB's Transmission ?
Is hydroboost an option for solving your master cylinder and booster clearance? Also, look into a heat shield on that turbo since it’s so close to the brake system
Can't wait to see the final fitting Kyle! Can't remember, but are you goin to fit a new exhaust system as well?
7:54 Call me crazy but the RB25DET became sexier in the 240sx haha.
