If Iosef had only stolen the car, the worst he would’ve gotten was a trip to the ER. But the fact that he killed John Wick’s dog, a dog that was a gift to him from his dying wife just before she died, practically sealed his fate.
To be fair, based purely on professional courtesy due to the history John had with losef’s father, the car probably would’ve been returned with a red bow atop the roof. Had he not killed the dog, Vigo would’ve handled his son by himself. More than likely just beating him up and then letting him be.

One big example of how stupid Iosef is; he seems to be the only member of the criminal underworld who isn't aware of who John is. I don't think there is any deal at that point Viggo could have made at that point that he could have lived with. Viggo had just positioned himself as the top of the local crime network. If word of what Iosef did to JW had not already gotten out by the time Viggo called John, it would have gotten out shortly after. Viggo couldn't afford the loss of face of giving up his son without a fight.
I love that scene. It's comforting that with all the mistakes you can do as an adult, are never as bad as stealing John Wick's car and killing his dog.
The father making the son take the shot of vodka before he punches him in the stomach making him throw up & just making getting punched that much more unconformable, i appreciate the extra layer of evil from the mob boss.
The way he delivered the line, "He didn't hear a word I say"! Really nailed his understanding of both John Wick as well as his sons compete misunderstanding.
After watching all 4 movies, i noticed John Wick had ONE fatal weakness: he ALWAYS getting run over by a car. Dude needs to learn how to look at both ways before crossing the street lol
4:12 Viggo has to be one of the funniest characters in the John Wick universe lmao. His tone of “let’s just step back into reality” voice always gets me lmao.
Admiral Yamamoto is often attributed as saying "I fear we have awakened a sleeping giant, and filled it with a terrible resolve." That's what Theon did here.
Come on. You took the time to needlessly capitalize all those words and still managed to mangle the word "buried".... AND in the age of autocorrect! Come on, man!
The dude tells his son he's not angry for what he did, stealing a car and killing someone's pet. And then puts him down he doesnt have focus, commitment, and sheer will. Classic affluent dad and affluent son convo.
classic "I'm not mad at you, I'm mad at the situation". in retrospect it's weird that no one in the sons crew knew who John Wick was considering how important he was to their empire or at least had a warning of "hey, if you ever see a dude with a classic muscle car and black hair living in this house STAY THE FUCK AWAY"
@@smalf00 Actually, it does make sense. Iosef surrounded himself with younger punks. People of his generation. They were likely kids when John did his "impossible task" before retiring. All they would know would be the legend. They wouldn't be able to identify the man on sight. And being typical young punks, they would think they were invincible.
@@danielhaire6677 no I get that none of his crew would know him, I'm just saying it's surprising his dad doesn't have one of his own men in the crew keeping Josef away from unnecessary danger (although now that I think of it the guy who tells John to have a nice day at the gas station looked decently older than the others, so maybe that was the guy and Josef just went after John anyways after saying leave that dude alone)
Would any parent willingly give their child up for slaughter? Viggo's actions are perfectly understandable for a parent. His only mistake is he raised a spoiled, arrogant, selfish punk of a son who doesn't have the discipline to think beyond his own wants and desires.
@kjj26k Technically, you're correct, but they are not the majority. They are not even a significant minority, but they do exist. It's obvious Viggo wasn't one of them. That actually makes him normal, despite being a mob boss.
Viggo should tired to ask John for something to make up for what the son did instead of trying to sweeping it under the rug. Also I know the golden rule of parnethood is to protect your children but what are you supposed to do when something like this happens. 5:23
@@CoralCopperHead Yes he probably would of but he should asked John for either for giveness or is anything that the son can make a mens for what he did.
@@sgtmcc6 very true but if you follow John habbits in the first one and the opening of the second, he just doesn't going killing everyone he goes after the goal and if only someond is in his way then he kills. For example he didn't kill that one guy that gave a code of how many people were in the spa.
Or for starters, apologize at all, he only offers condolences for John's wife. John was waiting on the phone, listening, because some part of him too didn't want this to escalate either, but then Viggo condescends not to resort to "baser instincts," as if this were some trivial matter, when the son has so egregiously wronged John, so he hangs up. I totally believe if Viggo had found the right words, to humble himself before John, then this could have ended semi-peacefully.
You learn enough in this scene and in the second film how impossible said task was: He left a blood marked favor to Santiago for assistance on killing an absurd amount of people. One that he knew he more than likely would never collect since it was Wick's attempt on getting out all together. That's a kind of fear/respect Old Wick had and he came to prey on Retired Wick who stuck his head through the door for the last gift his wife could give him.
The best description I have heard about this John Wick movie, is that it's not an action movie, or a revenge movie, it's a monster movie. Vigo's son basically awoke the criminal underground equivalent of Jason Voorhees. Anything that stands in his way WILL die. Vigo knows his son is dead, his organization is dead, and he is most likely dead too. He'll try to stop Wick, but he knows he'll fail.
Michael Nyqvist was a very fine actor. One of his main characters was the investigative reporter and publisher of Millennium Magazine in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Swedish version). He also played a Russian sub Captain in a Gerard Butler film., Hunter-Killer. Michael died in 2017 from lung cancer.
I always chuckled at how the bosses’ right hand man started to enjoy the scene after being told to stay lol. He just kicked back with his cigarette and watched the drama. 😂😂😂
At the beginning of the scene, the right hand man is calm. He's leaning on the bar and his posture is relaxed. When his boss and his boss's son begin their confrontation, that calm demeanor vanishes. He's standing up straight, smoking a cigarette, mopping at his forehead and fidgeting his hands. He's agitated because he knows that something is up and he doesn't know what to do about it. He's hardly enjoying himself.
Vigo would clearly had survived (and his whole organisation) if he just called John and said "My son fucked up, here is his address, his life is yours for what he did" but that would not have made the masterpiece that this movie is.
That's still his son. And he is still a father. It's not the high table it's self it's one man. Of corse he's going to try to save him. If you would just give him up then I don't recommended being a father.
Bro im certain most of the people in this universe would have killed the son themselves if they had their hands on him because so many people died because this kid wanted a car
@@onemoremiletogorichardson8934 I know a lot about endless and invaluable loyalty, I also know a lot about power and when to respect it. If someone has the power to do the impossible than you start thinking and that same loyalty suddenly starts to have value and not be quite so endless. It is called damage control, human survival instincts, how much you truely value those you are loyal to, and whether you truely do value their life more than your's and other's that you care about. And you can never truely know until you are put into that situation. You can believe all you want and say you know, but until it happens you don't.
What I love most about this scene aside from the obvious is the fact that Vigo knows how truly screwed he and his son are. He’s not just a Bratva don he’s a dad, he knows that now he has to send everything he has to protect his son and even with it all he knows it still won’t be enough and that his son is going to die. It’s anger and grief mixed together and it’s portrayed beautifully
@@CoffeeManiac20 Oh, yes, the whole premise is absurd. But that's John Wick. It's performance art, some kind of dance with guns, not an exploration of deep plotting. Like the gold coins. One of them seems to pay for a night's stay at a hotel, a pile of firearms, disposal of corpse, and a host of other things that should have wildly different prices. Performance art.
The thing that I love the most is how visibly shaken Vigo is. He does such a fantastic job showing us the Audience how much John is not a man to be fucked with with his reactions and body language.

And a special movement with a pencil xD
He could attach his pencil to a rope and be like Scorpion.
@@Sairy4254indeed
Yup Robert McCall from equalizer to
I love that scene.
Imagine vodka pooling into your sinuses and out of your nose sheesh.
Of course 'Mayhem' is in this movie...
There's not enough insurance to cover when Baba Yaga comes for you! 💀💀💀☠️☠️☠️
Exactly 😂
@@AsianShadowrunner😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Funny enough, he causes basically very little of it.
That’s not Mayhem. That’s Detective Brian Cassidy, he’s been working undercover for 6 months.
The way he delivered the line, "He didn't hear a word I say"! Really nailed his understanding of both John Wick as well as his sons compete misunderstanding.
I always loved this scene, and LOL every time at 4:11
"What the-did he hear a fucking word I say?!"
3:01 I like how homie in the back stressing listening to the pencil story
And then Viggo pantomimed the pencil stab on him.
After watching all 4 movies, i noticed John Wick had ONE fatal weakness: he ALWAYS getting run over by a car. Dude needs to learn how to look at both ways before crossing the street lol
6:00 “Enough” my personal fave part of the scene. Don’t need everything in dialog
John Wick is how I react when your ex what's you back.
“John will come for you”
Chills
That’s horrifying to hear
I love the drink he takes before explaining it all, as though it’s the last drink he’ll ever enjoy.
4:12 Viggo has to be one of the funniest characters in the John Wick universe lmao. His tone of “let’s just step back into reality” voice always gets me lmao.
nah wrd that shit had me weak 😭😭😭
This scene made the entire John Wick persona much more enjoyable
Viggo was likely the last person who actually knew what John wick was capable of, everyone in the following movies seem to forget who he is
Nope. Francis knew. And it's why he lived.
Admiral Yamamoto is often attributed as saying "I fear we have awakened a sleeping giant, and filled it with a terrible resolve." That's what Theon did here.
"The Bodies He Barried That Day Layed The Foundation For What We Are Today" Speaks Volumes to who and What The Babba Yaga is

@@smalf00 Makes as much sense as the tyrannosaur paddock in the first Jurassic Park movie, with its changing ground level.
The fact that the mayhem guy from All State is in the background adds a lot to the humor of the scene.
The sad part is he knew his son was gonna die & there was nothing he can do about it…even gave him 1 last hug to say goodbye damn!!!
"It's the one you send to kill the boogeyman "
One of the greatest lines in a movie
" " When John Wick said that on the phone I felt that.
Viggo should given up Iosef. He can always make another one.
Would any parent willingly give their child up for slaughter? Viggo's actions are perfectly understandable for a parent. His only mistake is he raised a spoiled, arrogant, selfish punk of a son who doesn't have the discipline to think beyond his own wants and desires.
@@VTdarkangel
Yes, many, many parents have, do, and will.
I offer no judgement on that, I merely state the fact.
@kjj26k Technically, you're correct, but they are not the majority. They are not even a significant minority, but they do exist. It's obvious Viggo wasn't one of them. That actually makes him normal, despite being a mob boss.
@@VTdarkangel of course not. My comment was mostly in jest. It's just fun to theorize.
"oh!" Best running line in the movie....all three of them. love it!
Viggo should tired to ask John for something to make up for what the son did instead of trying to sweeping it under the rug. Also I know the golden rule of parnethood is to protect your children but what are you supposed to do when something like this happens. 5:23
Kid was old enough to know better, but he didn't. Dad's not leaving him out to dry or anything; he jumped in front of the train.
@@CoralCopperHead Yes he probably would of but he should asked John for either for giveness or is anything that the son can make a mens for what he did.
But then it wouldn’t be a movie would it
@@sgtmcc6 very true but if you follow John habbits in the first one and the opening of the second, he just doesn't going killing everyone he goes after the goal and if only someond is in his way then he kills.
“Did he hear a fucking word I said?” 😅 Gets me every time! How many times have I said that of my sons?
You will do nothing bc you can do nothing. Great line.
1:25 yooo is that the all-state mayhem guy on the left? i never noticed that til now.
Yea wtf y he so weak now😂
he got his ass whooped because Mayhem was around.

He was also in Law and Order older episodes. He's a good actor, just not as well-known.
Damn Theon you always fucking up 😂
That wasn’t Ramsays dog!

I still hope for the day we get to see that "impossible task."
But once you see it,it won't be an impossible task.
Sometimes in life are better off as a mystery.
I'd like it to be not shown. The telling in this scene shows enough.
Theres talk about making an anime of the impossible task
The best description I have heard about this John Wick movie, is that it's not an action movie, or a revenge movie, it's a monster movie.
Vigo's son basically awoke the criminal underground equivalent of Jason Voorhees. Anything that stands in his way WILL die.
Vigo knows his son is dead, his organization is dead, and he is most likely dead too. He'll try to stop Wick, but he knows he'll fail.
Viggo throws on his readers to get John Wick’s number out of the old book. It’s a good touch.
RIP Michael Nyqvist (2017) - whose monologue helped build a character who’s name still brings chills to anyone near pencils
Even Mayhem wants nothing to do with the problems the kid created.
Lmao so that is him 😂😂😂😂😂
“John wasn’t exactly the boogie man, he was the one you send to kill the Boogie man”
Michael Nyqvist was a very fine actor. One of his main characters was the investigative reporter and publisher of Millennium Magazine in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Swedish version). He also played a Russian sub Captain in a Gerard Butler film., Hunter-Killer. Michael died in 2017 from lung cancer.
I keep expecting Maester Lewin to come in with a scolding tone "THEON GREYJOY!"

At first I didn’t get what made the movie(s) so special & worth watching. Having watched all 4, damn!
0:34 he gave em a drink so it would burn going down and up. He also toasted but poured himself a different drink.
John Wick is so badass, even “Mayhem” cannot mess with him.
Still THE coldest intro for anyone ever
@@ct000374910 That’s before being told to stay, he looked like he started to enjoy himself after being told to stay.

@@robthedude4861 Yes, but he was still enjoying himself after being told to stay.
@blockmasterscott Not if he was so quick to leave two times. He sat and watched it cause he had too not because he liked it so much.
Vigo would clearly had survived (and his whole organisation) if he just called John and said "My son fucked up, here is his address, his life is yours for what he did" but that would not have made the masterpiece that this movie is.
Clearly you know nothing about family and/or loyalty!!!!!
Spoiled man till death
@@onemoremiletogorichardson8934 I know a lot about endless and invaluable loyalty, I also know a lot about power and when to respect it. If someone has the power to do the impossible than you start thinking and that same loyalty suddenly starts to have value and not be quite so endless. It is called damage control, human survival instincts, how much you truely value those you are loyal to, and whether you truely do value their life more than your's and other's that you care about. And you can never truely know until you are put into that situation. You can believe all you want and say you know, but until it happens you don't.
1:15 Even Mayhem can’t help you from Viggo
What I love most about this scene aside from the obvious is the fact that Vigo knows how truly screwed he and his son are. He’s not just a Bratva don he’s a dad, he knows that now he has to send everything he has to protect his son and even with it all he knows it still won’t be enough and that his son is going to die. It’s anger and grief mixed together and it’s portrayed beautifully

4:17 hugging his son goodbye. Because he knows that he is going to die
What did he say? “Enough” without saying anything… John Wick
What escapes me is that Vigo never told his son about John Wick, the man that built his empire overnight.
A boogie MSN who he hoped would stay sleep but. ... his had scree that up
Would the son have ever believed him? He would thought it was some story you tell to scare your kids at night. Like he said the “boogeyman”.
@@Zaacdrums but it would make sense so his son doesn’t mess with him
@@CoffeeManiac20 Oh, yes, the whole premise is absurd. But that's John Wick. It's performance art, some kind of dance with guns, not an exploration of deep plotting.

Performance art.
@@Armored_Muskrat can’t argue with that
The thing that I love the most is how visibly shaken Vigo is. He does such a fantastic job showing us the Audience how much John is not a man to be fucked with with his reactions and body language.

MOST IMPORTANT SCENE OF THE FRANCHISE, this scene alone was the main source for hyping the legend of John Wick and letting us know how terrifying he is. To understand how good the actor was in this understand that he made us feel that Wick is so good he killed 3 men with something as ridiculous as a pencil. Powerful scene
I like how dude was terrified after vigo struck his son, but after given the order to stay twice decides it’s cool enough to straight up ash his cig on the floor.😂

Vigo knew his son was a gonner and knew john couldn't be stopped! Vigo said he finished an impossible task
There is nothing more dangerous than a man with nothing to lose but his temper.
Never before in cinematic or written history has the word “Oh” carried so much weight and meaning.
lol even Allstate Insurance won't cover the mayhem. Mayhem wasn't having any part of it lol
This is a prime example of great storytelling and buildup for the main character by having an antagonist explain the backstory to the audience of who the protagonist really is...
5:43
"Welp, sorry son, I tried. You're screwed"
"Task a crew."
"How man?"
"How many do have?"
