Here's an interesting note to everyone watching. Godrick was probably the closest of the Sharbearers/demigods to actually becoming a lord. -Radahan was totally mindless with no will to pursue it. -Ranalla was stuck in her horrifying depression, not to mention her actual abilities were limited since she was trapped in the library -Rykard was devolving into gluttony so it was unlikely he was actively seeking to become lord/destroy the lordship. -Morgot was just guarding the tree, trying to stop people from seeking out shardbearers. -Mohg had no intention of seeking out the shards, and had his own plan that was, being totally blunt, going nowhere slowly. Miquella being indisposed as well -Malenia was in a coma and had no interest in doing anything without her brother. Overall, Godrick was the only one actively seeking out the lords/trying to increase his power. And yet he is considered the weakest. Just an interesting notion.
Wonder what would’ve happened if the the tarnished never came back. Without the player or Godfrey it’s hard to imagine anyone ever becoming elden lord but who knows.
@@DaBoss-lj8pn That's actually the whole reason why the tarnished were sent to the lands between. After Radahn and Melenia stalemated, the war for the shard fragments became so stagnated that the greater will saw no end unless another force intervened. I think the only force other than the tarnished that could bring an end to it was Maliketh, who had hidden away out of paranoia and shame.
Maybe in an alternate universe godrick becomes Elden lord the same way the tarnished does through collecting runes and great runes with the help of a finger maiden instead of being a coward who runs away and uses grafting to make himself stronger.
His design is so brutal, it shows the horrors of grafting with a power-hungry demigod, the way he moves and basically drags his body around because of the monstrosity that he is, and on top of it all the voice actor nailed it so perfectly, goddamn. He sends chills down my spine, 10/10 bossfight.
Dev 1: "You know what would be a cool boss? An old, six fingered man that has dual axes and a bunch of small arms on his back!" Dev 2: "Sounds good. But can you add a dragon for a left arm that shoots fire" Dev 1: "We can work that in somehow"
I love how the tarnished just stands back and just lets him take his time to grab a dragon head and graft it onto himself. Yep that’s how I always fight.
Same logic as when Godrick gets the grab, throws the player down, starts breathing fire on him for a second and then stops. Like just keep going till he’s dead stupid
I fucking love the guy It's so sad that in the lore he's a weak coward who got a small taste of power His design and battle is just generally fun I sadly didn't have that much of an issue with him, though i wish i did solely so i could play him more, def one of my fav bosses, and his voice acting and lines, fucking superb
In an alternative ending the end of the Godrick fight should look like the beginning of Slaveknight Gael's fight, with a cripple body trying to crawl out if the boss area. So he can keep on grifting and graftin and make attempts on your life.
From what I understand, since Godrick is a descendant of Godfrey and of the Golden Lineage, is it possible that he may be related to Godwyn in some way like a great grandchild? Like maybe Godwyn had a child with someone before he died or maybe Godrick was Godwyn's child? I don't really know so please give me some insight if I'm wrong
i may have faced this guy a bit too early, i had WAY less health and did WAY less damage with my Uchi+3. It's hard to get used to these insane delays in attack animations which seems to be the thing this game is going for
Is that a design choice they made? I’ve noticed a huge input delay when rolling, like a quarter/half second. Actions feel on release instead of on press like on previous games, which is fine but I think because they mapped the sprint and roll onto the same button, actions don’t register properly like before. Feels less crisp…

Yet he knows Morgott is the proper king. Even in his delusions, he calls himself a lord and not king. Means he respects and understands that Morgott actually is worthy of the title of King Leydalle
Yeah the first boss seemed much harder because there were less attack windows and he could literally start another combo right after the first one But Godrick has very readable attacks like his spinning charge that can be easily punished and his 2 phase is easy because he stands afk breathing fire for 10 seconds allowing you to stagger him
On one hand, this is probably one of the best fights in the series. On the other hand, this is the second mandatory boss in the game, so I'm worried the others may not feel as special after this.
@@juliebelle1756 radahn is not even a late game boss 😂😂. He's like mid game. Even u are in for a suprise. There's couple of late game bosses that even overshadow radahn
I like how everything about Gorick screams of faded glory. The greying hair, the parts of him which are not grafted being pale, dessicated, aged & sunken. Even his greataxe, once golden and mighty, is a shadow of it's former, prisitne self, barely clinging to relevance just like it's wielder. And another thing: Godrick is screaming in pain when he cuts his own arm off, yeah? Hurts, obviously, we would scream too. Notice how he tries REALLY hard to keep it cool and not seem weak when he does so with loud groans while heaving for air. Even him causing himself such blinding agony is being masked by a tough front. He REALLY wants to be this amazing guy who can stand up there with the likes of Radahn & live up to the venerated names of his ancestors. So I hate to say it, but I can't help but feel a mixture of admiration & pity for the poor fool in a limited capacity.
Bro, this boss is like some straight up Resident evil stuff. I love it. I can't wait to get some proper lore on how the grafting thing works because if this is the same Godric as he the one of the big painting then I need to properly know what the hell happened
Great, now I want to see FromSoftware make a Resident Evil game or at the very least a new survival horror game. Kuon happened so they should totally do another.
The fact that the secount phase happened by cutting of his arm you would assume " oh he must be stuck in a stunned position let me get a hit in" Cutscene plays "WTF JUST HAPPENED?!"
This fight was frustrating at times, but it was never unfair. The voice actor nailed it and the lore is fascinating, can't wait to see what's left in this game!
For a moment I thought FromSoftware made a goof boss who, in their 2nd phase, accidentally cuts their own arm off and bleeds to death in front of our horrified eyes.
I enjoyed his amalgamation of all the pieces from that room of hanging arms, and the (troll?) that's hanging upside down in the next room. He poses similar to that tall painting of him. I wanna know who the grafter is.
Canonical short king. No really he's really small. He just appears large because of all the corpses he's attached to himself. When the fight ends and Gostoc stomps on him you can get a good look at him.
It is interesting that in his last moments he dosent seem mad or something, he just wanted to go home with all he loved. Pretty nice for someone looking as crazy as him!
This cutscene is fucking incredible, rank it the best right after Malenia and Radahn. That dark eerie music when the cloak comes off to reveal all those arms at 0:46, then goes to basically say what the fuck are you doing here playing as a lord while he turns around and his giant axe is scraping against the ground. Literally everything about this cutscene is badass.
Godric is a HELL of a first “major” boss to welcome you into Elden Ring. I’m not even finished with the game yet but after this boss fight I was pretty decided that this game was already a masterpiece
>be crazy >weird abilities >unironically the best character >way more egotistical than he has any right to be >amazing voice acting This guy is like the Micolash of Elden Ring, except yknow, a good boss fight.
This dude’s mid fight transition cutscene rivals that of Ludwig and Gael, and he’s only the first main boss? If the rest of the bosses are this good then this might become my favorite game of all time
I love how you can tell that he was preparing to replace his hand with dragon head beforehand. At 0:24 he touches dragon with the hand that he replaced and at 1:06 you can see that his left hand is big enough to put that head there.
"One day we will return to our home. Bathed in Rays of Gold" Huh... makes me wonder if Marika wanted to go back with her family to the Shaman Village and live there peacefully one day.
This boss fight is just stunning. Not too difficult, but at the same time challenging. The cut scenes are great and the voice acting is perfect for this character. That cut scene in the middle where he amputates his own arm was shocking the first time I saw it
I feel a lesser studio would have made every boss fight after this one even more over the top, which really would have lessened this one. Great start to a game
After actually meeting Godfrey, I can understand Kenneth's disdain for Godrick. The fact that they fight with axes is like they only thing they have in common.
It's crazy how, during the fight, you start to pity Godrick. He was driven insane by his desire for validation and need to prove himself, and it's turned him into and ungodly monster.
Godrick emanates huge Targaryen vibes, I wouldn't be surprised to hear Martin came up with part of the idea. Also absolute love the way he says "bear witness!". You can hear his pride overwhelmed with emotion turn into obsession. He sounds like a kid showing dad his new toy
I think The One Reborn should take note. This is Godfrey's relative, and let me tell you, he didn't inherit any of his humility or strength, but knowing this, he turned himself into an amalgamation to combine the strength of his subjects into himself. The fact that he chopped his own arm off is one thing, but replacing it with the head of a dead dragon is holy shit metal as fuck! The voice acting is incredible; I don't know how he can keep up the screaming and laughing, but despite being a naturally weak warrior, he'd make for a pretty influential leader with that energetic voice. Whose lungs did he have to steal for such charisma? I don't really care, because the music is somehow the best in a FromSoft game! It's quite a feat to even surpass Ludwig the Holy Blade on that front! And somehow this is among the more average boss fights in comparison, which is a testament to just how memorable the boss lineup can be.
At this point I helped about 20 people get through this fight because I can't get enough of it! I truly love everything about this battle. The best part is when the host is out of heals and just stands back to let me finish Godrick 1v1. Super intense, because I am not OP and really have to earn the victory.
This should have been a reoccurring boss. As you progress through the game he comes back more grafted with new mechanics. Searching for the “perfect” body to become Elden Lord.
I did this fight without spirits just to enjoy it more and make me die more, easily my favourite boss so far, he’s so fucking cool and his fight is decent

When Godrick cut off his arm it gave me goosebumps all over my back. This scene is metal as fuck. Cutting your own arm off and replacing it with the head of a dragon that can breathe fire. Talk about being metal and badass
That’s what I was saying when I first saw it, easily the most metal thing I’ve seen in a while
And the music at the start of the second phase
Yet he is weakest of all Demi gods
Yet he fled from Rahdan when challenged.
Yet he insulted Malenia despite being in fear of Radahn, was beaten up by her, licked her golden feet to spare him
"Forefathers, one and all.... *BEAR WITNESS!* "
Godrick now goes into my list of best voice acted Fromsoft characters next only to Vendrick and Vilhelm.
Edit: The replies made me realize how good the voice acting is in Souls games despite the small amount of direct storytelling they have.
What about Gyoubu Masataka Oniwa?
@@davidhong1934 And Roberto
Apparently he's voiced by Ramon Tikaram, who voiced Dorian in DA:I!
Twin princes and Ludwig are better but Goodrich is up there

Godrick's VA is fucking amazing. The phase 2 transition just OOZES with sheer pain, madness, AND willpower. When he takes charge of that Dragon's head with gleeful abandon and yells "BEAR WITNESS!!!", I fucking felt that.
He really is incredible. The slight shake in "witness". Amazing character.
Check out Aatrox from League of Legends and Rammatra from Overwatch. Incredibly talented voice actor.
On of the things I love about this battle is how delayed his attacks are. almost as if his limbs are fighting against him
He got too heavy with all those grafts
It’s because he’s not a competent fighter, even with the use of grafting. As his servant says “what a pathetic excuse for a lord”
It's because Miyazaki loves bullying panic rollers
The Voice actor of Godrick is a true Elden Lord! Holy shit the heavy breathing and Laughing during the Cutscene is amazing 10/10
He’s voiced by Dorian’s actor from Dragon Age: Inquisition!!!
(Ramon Tikaram)
They really should voice acted Godfrey the final boss to reused his voice in these last two bosses
His painful scream and the heavy ragged breathing is so on point
This was instantly cemented as one of my favorite fights from a fromsoftware game.
Probably the most frustrating for me 😅
@@hallowseve5801 He’s my favorite boss so far. A little disappointed that I beat him with less retries than when I fought Margit. But that’s because I had already leveled up a decent amount and gotten more used to the game :)

@@JoeyCentral hell no bruh, margit was harder than godrick
Here's an interesting note to everyone watching. Godrick was probably the closest of the Sharbearers/demigods to actually becoming a lord.
-Radahan was totally mindless with no will to pursue it.
-Ranalla was stuck in her horrifying depression, not to mention her actual abilities were limited since she was trapped in the library
-Rykard was devolving into gluttony so it was unlikely he was actively seeking to become lord/destroy the lordship.
-Morgot was just guarding the tree, trying to stop people from seeking out shardbearers.
-Mohg had no intention of seeking out the shards, and had his own plan that was, being totally blunt, going nowhere slowly. Miquella being indisposed as well
-Malenia was in a coma and had no interest in doing anything without her brother.
I wonder how the conversation would go if Godrick reaches Godfrey at the end instead of the tarnished.
Jesus died for you! Have a great day!
Dev 1: "You know what would be a cool boss? An old, six fingered man that has dual axes and a bunch of small arms on his back!"
Dev 2: "Sounds good. But can you add a dragon for a left arm that shoots fire"
Dev 1: "We can work that in somehow"
LOL, sounds like dialogue from a pitch meeting.
I buy it lol
You made my day
That’s just a typical FromSoftware dev meeting probably
Dev 3: "Let's make it his Phase 2"
Dev 1 and 2: "WRITE THAT DOWN! WRITE THAT DOWN!"
I love how the tarnished just stands back and just lets him take his time to grab a dragon head and graft it onto himself.
Yep that’s how I always fight.
School of Dragonball Z fighting
Meanwhile I try to charge an r2 and I get the WOMBO combo.
That's not something you would expect somebody in a fight to do now is it? tarnished was probably confused as hell
Same logic as when Godrick gets the grab, throws the player down, starts breathing fire on him for a second and then stops. Like just keep going till he’s dead stupid
The tarnished was like bro wtf is happening
This boss was AMAZING, the line at 3:12 sounds like a complete madman who os blinded by power, the voice actor was awesome.

That look of awe on Godrick's face whenever he uses his dragon breath attack, man. The animators did an amazing job.
I love how Godrick was a crazy bastard already, but in Phase 2 he just goes batshit insane.
Godrick’s voice acting is one of the best I’ve ever heard honestly
i may have faced this guy a bit too early, i had WAY less health and did WAY less damage with my Uchi+3. It's hard to get used to these insane delays in attack animations which seems to be the thing this game is going for
the katanas attacks are just delayed or a little slow like that. using a longsword attacks come out pretty fast
I had a +2 scimitar until i was forced to upgrade to the Bloodhound curved sword😭 also i only had six +1 Crimson Tears flasks
Is that a design choice they made? I’ve noticed a huge input delay when rolling, like a quarter/half second. Actions feel on release instead of on press like on previous games, which is fine but I think because they mapped the sprint and roll onto the same button, actions don’t register properly like before. Feels less crisp…
@@jackdill9317 i mean enemy attacks, they hold their weapons up in the air for way too long which fucks up your dodge timing, my attack animations are just fine, except i don't know how to 2H my weapon heh

Literally geeking out
Who wouldn't?
This boss is beautifully designed. When I first saw this boss with the cutscene I was in awe
His scream with the music cut off, just absolutely amazing. So brutal. Love it.
Bro, this boss is like some straight up Resident evil stuff. I love it. I can't wait to get some proper lore on how the grafting thing works because if this is the same Godric as he the one of the big painting then I need to properly know what the hell happened
Resident evil and dark souls had a baby... which is this game basically.
The guy in painting is Godfrey
The one in the painting with the Lion is his ancestor, Godfrey the first Elden Lord.
Great, now I want to see FromSoftware make a Resident Evil game or at the very least a new survival horror game. Kuon happened so they should totally do another.
Godrick has some of the most epic cutscenes in any FROM game. A worthy boss for the first legacy dungeon
2:39 "Attack him before he power up!!!"
"No!!! I want to see what he's going to do next!"
The fact that the secount phase happened by cutting of his arm you would assume " oh he must be stuck in a stunned position let me get a hit in"
Cutscene plays
"WTF JUST HAPPENED?!"
So far I love the way these Demigods stories are so intriguing
The arm cut, the Aspostle style boss, the epicness...I know everyone says that, but what a Miura vibe...
This fight was frustrating at times, but it was never unfair. The voice actor nailed it and the lore is fascinating, can't wait to see what's left in this game!
for the "Forefathers, one and all, Bear witness" line, I LOVE for that line, I can't explain why, but it just sounds so good
“FOREFATHERS ONE AND ALL! BEEEAAAR WITNESS!!!”
For a moment I thought FromSoftware made a goof boss who, in their 2nd phase, accidentally cuts their own arm off and bleeds to death in front of our horrified eyes.
Pff imagine that actually happened I'd love to see that
Those are some Borderlands shenanigans
This is one of if not my favorite boss design in the whole Souls series. Just 20/10 everything done well.
I enjoyed his amalgamation of all the pieces from that room of hanging arms, and the (troll?) that's hanging upside down in the next room. He poses similar to that tall painting of him. I wanna know who the grafter is.
This is honestly one of the best boss cutscenes in video game history
I don't care if godrick is a weakling and a coward, he's one of my favorite designs
For me this is the most epic boss in the Soul series. Never skipped any cutscene.
Canonical short king. No really he's really small. He just appears large because of all the corpses he's attached to himself.
When the fight ends and Gostoc stomps on him you can get a good look at him.
This game is probably my favorite game of all time and I've owned it for less than 30 hours
It is interesting that in his last moments he dosent seem mad or something, he just wanted to go home with all he loved. Pretty nice for someone looking as crazy as him!
I always come back to this guy. I even lend out help just to see the cutscene and fight this guy again. He is such a cool bossfight.
The "BEAARRR WITNESS!!" gives me goosebumps every time
This game is a masterpiece. Hidetaka Miyazaki is a genius.
The way the cape runs off all his arms is so smooth.
2 thing you can learn from this video:
1- He has some forefathers
2- He calls a bear as witness
This cutscene is fucking incredible, rank it the best right after Malenia and Radahn. That dark eerie music when the cloak comes off to reveal all those arms at 0:46, then goes to basically say what the fuck are you doing here playing as a lord while he turns around and his giant axe is scraping against the ground. Literally everything about this cutscene is badass.
The way the music stops for his screams is chilling by far in my top 5 boss fights
Godric is a HELL of a first “major” boss to welcome you into Elden Ring. I’m not even finished with the game yet but after this boss fight I was pretty decided that this game was already a masterpiece
This guy should get 10 awards for voice acting

Margits a main boss considering he has a cutscene
I love how you can tell that he was preparing to replace his hand with dragon head beforehand. At 0:24 he touches dragon with the hand that he replaced and at 1:06 you can see that his left hand is big enough to put that head there.
“I command thee, kneel!”
Me: “Okay, just give me a second. I gotta select the emote first.”
No one else has mentioned it, but can we all appreciate how perfectly the music lines up at 4:26 when the player beats Godrick?
It's not coincidence, it's a game sound design.
"One day we will return to our home. Bathed in Rays of Gold"
Huh... makes me wonder if Marika wanted to go back with her family to the Shaman Village and live there peacefully one day.
That Cutscene in the middle was so epic! There is nothing quite like playing a new Fromsoft game for the first time
This boss fight is just stunning. Not too difficult, but at the same time challenging. The cut scenes are great and the voice acting is perfect for this character. That cut scene in the middle where he amputates his own arm was shocking the first time I saw it
One of the coolest boss fights ever, for sure
I feel a lesser studio would have made every boss fight after this one even more over the top, which really would have lessened this one. Great start to a game
I like not one comment mentions that he has resorted to grafting after having his original body diced to shreds by Malenia
Godrick: "I am the lord of all that is golden!""
Game: "You're Godrick the Grafted."
Great voice acting. Always have goosebumps on the "I command thee, kneel!"
After actually meeting Godfrey, I can understand Kenneth's disdain for Godrick. The fact that they fight with axes is like they only thing they have in common.
It's crazy how, during the fight, you start to pity Godrick. He was driven insane by his desire for validation and need to prove himself, and it's turned him into and ungodly monster.
he would have become elden lord if he replace his arms with bear or lobster
Godrick emanates huge Targaryen vibes, I wouldn't be surprised to hear Martin came up with part of the idea.
Also absolute love the way he says "bear witness!". You can hear his pride overwhelmed with emotion turn into obsession. He sounds like a kid showing dad his new toy
Later the same guy will get reborn as an omnic who starts at the rebellion
In his nemesis form he'll yell "Omnickind one and all, BEAR WITNESS!"
the bosses of elden ring peak at godrick
What are you talking about this is one of the best bosses in the game, many of the rest are pretty shit.
