It is interesting the way he says everyone's names during the cutscene. He says Godrick, Miqulla, and Malenia's names very matter-of-fact. General Radahn's name is said almost like he is pleased and has a sense of respect for him. Rykard is said with disdain or disgust. Finally, Ranni is said with either a sense of curiosity, intrigue, or is just matter-of-fact, it is hard to say. HE DIDN’T EVEN HAVE BLESSINGS FROM THE ERDTREE OR HIS FAMILY AND STILL protected the name and reputation of BOTH with grace and all the power he could muster. Living out his true destiny unlike everyone else who threw all their previous ambitions aside and lived in chaos however they pleased under no order. There’s even a cut scene where it looked like he had a blade shanked into General Radahn; probably one of the few times he ever had an upper hand on him but it shows how bold he is to stand up to even the most commanding and robust warriors. Morgott was a G. A real one. ✊🏽
just want to add: thanks to VA for the amazing job. every line by Morgott is pure gold and his distress about his curse between phases 1 and 2 is heart wrenching. you deserve so much better than this life gave you, king
I just realized that when he says “The thrones…stained by my curse…such shame I cannot bear. _Thy part in this shall not be forgiven.”_ he’s speaking literally, not figuratively. I assume Morgott was trying to keep his Omen Curse in check, but after being hurt this much, he lost control of it, and the curse flooded the arena, literally staining the thrones that were sitting there with his Curse; something he never wanted, and probably deems as horribly disrespectful and disgraceful. He’s saying _”You made me do this. How dare you.”_
I swear the only thing that keeps Morgott from joining, or possibly even surpassing such legendary From Software bosses like Artorias, Lady Maria or Gael, is that chances are most people fight him very overleveled because of the sheer amount of content Elden Ring's mid-game has. Everything about this boss is absolute perfection, which just makes me wish all the more that Elden Ring's bosses, at least the main story ones, scaled with the player's level to some extent, to balance out them possibly being really overleveled due to the open-world format.
Maybe I wasn't fully prepared, nor I was particularly skilled, but it took me some attempts, like 4 or 5, and the help of Melina and the Mimic. I haven't finished the game yet, but for now he's my favourite boss, a true masterpiece in moves, atmosphere and lore
The way he changed and skillfully used these weapons like Soul Of Cinder but then that spinning in the air and land down to strike so beautiful like Gael.
One thing I love about the cutscene is that the seats of Godrick and the Twins are oddly far apart, as if there should be another throne in between. Morgott and Mohg both are omen and might not even have a throne because of this. I’ve always found this odd ever since I first saw this cutscene. With the DLC, it makes a lot of sense that the throne that’s missing, is the one that belongs to Messmer which he sits on in his boss arena. Just shows that From probably already knew exactly what they were going to do with the DLC when the main game dropped.
Anthony Howell (Morgott's VA) nailed every subtle emotions Morgott tried to convey in declaring each throne's respective owners. Try listening to it more carefully: Godrick The Golden: longing, like he misses an old friend that is no more. Fitting, since Godrick and Morgott are both the black sheep of their respective families, and both are seeking some sort of recognition to a degree. The Twin Prodigies, Miquella and Malenia: sadness, almost parental in nature. I like how he slightly quivers when he said "twin", since Miquella and Malenia are nothing alike. General Radahn: respect, militari-esque. Like a soldier reciting the name and title of his superior officer. Praetor Rykard: disgust. He knows what Rykard has become and what he did to get into that state. Morgott and the other Shardbearers clung to their respective Great Runes dearly, while Rykard threw it away by his own volition. Lunar Princess Ranni: very, *very* subtle tint of hate. Venomous. I take it Morgott knew at least some of what Ranni did behind the others' backs, and he hated her for it. Howell needs to lend his voice to more characters. That man's crazy talented.
"Thy kind are all of a piece. Pillagers. Emboldened by the flame of ambition. Have it writ upon thy meager grave: Felled by King Morgott! Last of all kings." gawd DAMN
I love Morgott’s respect for his siblings. He cares for them in a way. He’s the only one to call Godrick by his true title. He doesn’t even really hate you. In the end, when he’s talking to you, you are both being stopped from proceeding. It’s kind of sad. What a great character.
Rather, he's the only one to have enough sympathy for Godrick to go along with his mad ramblings and spare him a shred of honour by calling him his self-proclaimed title "The Golden". Dead Godwyn was the true Golden one. Godrick's actual epithet is The Grafted, which everyone else calls him by, with disgust. Godrick was just a feeble distant relative, pathetically scrambling for power and barely a threat, also having no "familial responsibilities" or supposed loyalty to the family to begin with, it's possible Godrick doesn't scorn him like the big contenders, but rather pity.
He thought that the tarnished would kill all his siblings to take the great runes, only to be met with nothing at the end. Seeing as this would result in needless death, he made it his mission to kill as many tarnished as possible before they proceed further.
I just knew there was something really fishy about Margit. You get this boss with amazing powers completely odd design as an early game encounter? I totally thought at that point that they could have "saved" the fight for later on in the game. Well, turns out they did 😅
Was pretty obvious by his dialogue when you beat him the first time that you'd meet him again. I was honestly expecting him to be like the Pursuer in DS2, but I'll happily take this. They at least gave us one more round with him outside the capitol.

Out of all of the Demigods, Morgot might be the most honorable demigod out of them all. With most of them being power-hungry like Godrick and Rykard or succumbing to Scarlet Rot like Radahn, Morgot stayed away from the war and defeated Radahn and Godrick's army. Despite being despised by many except Godfrey, he stood his ground as the king even if the Erd Tree Rejected him. It was fatalism that led to his fall. So he is truly the last of all kings.
i still think radahn is more honorable although i do love morgott’s lore. the only reason why radahn became insane was because of the scarlet rot not because he was hungry for power
And moreover, you the player character isnt honorable at all... I mean, he is right in his speech. You all seek power for your selfish causes and he is allready beyond furious with it, and it will take all of his anger upon you. He just wants to protect the tree, into which nobody can even enter, and uphold some semblance of stability while everything else is crumbling. Its a moment where you ask yourself a bit... Would've been my favorite boss fight in the game if not for Malekith, absolutely loved this fight. His dialogue when he's a withered corpse after you beat him made me tear up the first time, he's such a tragic character. Morgott is the Eddard Stark of Elden Ring
I love the move he does with the big summoned magic hammer, where while you’re waiting for him to strike with the big obvious raised weapon, he sneaks in an attack with his other hand to catch you off guard. That one got me many times.
Come to think of, he is essentially embittered Gwyndolin left without any hope to restore good old days. And damn, the moment when Godfrey cradled his corpse later...
Anyone notice how the way his staff shattered in the opening cinematic changed? It went from bursting with flames and red energy to now just the outer shell crumbling away (without the glowing and other effects).

Since we fight both Godfrey and Morgott I'd like to proudly day that Morgott grew into just as great as a warrior as his father. His speed and ferocity combined with masterful precision and such grace makes him one of my favorite bosses. It only heightens the tragedy to think of Godfrey returning to the lands between and learning what a true warrior the son he left behind had become only to find him dead by our hand. Godfrey sounds almost on the verge of tears when he's cradling Morgott's body. Its a wonder he even decided to fight us honorably instead of tearing us to shreds where we stood. Morgott is such an amazing character.
I love how this description basically says: "Yes he was cursed, but he was a badass and worthy king nonetheless".
"Morgott took it upon himself to become the Erdtree's protector.
He loved not in return, for he was never loved, but nevertheless, love it he did."
morgott is a fucking great character but sadly overshadowed by others... specifically malenia
If he had more hp and poise peeps love his 8 hit combo but thats the thing peeps dont just love him for his cool attack they love him for his lore where as when peeps talk about malenia its mostly about her attack and whirl flow attack and not much about her lore

Morgott is the definition of honor. Despite never having a single soul shed love or respect on him, he was the only demigod to carry the legacy of the Erdtree. Even if no one agreed, if Morgott knew he was right he stood his ground.
His cursed blood erupted into flame, just like Mohg's when he met the Formless Mother
100% correct
The morgussy juice
He was also given grace by the greater will apparently, so this probably expelled the omen into what we saw.
I'm going to say this is the correct interpretation given how the boss arena itself gets covered in that murky-ass water.
Morgott is top tier for me. I like him as much as Gael, maybe even more. Hes up there with Owl Father, Orphan, Maria and Sword Saint.

0:49 i just realized after watching again, Ranni has smallest size throne between all of demigods .
Makes sense considering how smol she is
Anthony Howell (Morgott's VA) nailed every subtle emotions Morgott tried to convey in declaring each throne's respective owners. Try listening to it more carefully:
Godrick The Golden: longing, like he misses an old friend that is no more.

"How are *you* still single?"
*Vine boom sfx*
I loved the Max0r video
I wished we could of gotten to use one of his golden weapon incantations as a remembrance power.
That line “have it writ upon thy meagre grave” gets me pumped af
I beat this dude in two tries but he was definitely my favorite boss fight. Very intuitive and cool moveset, fair hitboxes, amazing voice actor.
I just love him.
I died to him like 25 times
Dang you're good
The VA does a phenomenal job with him, anger, somber, distain, and respect all bundled into one voice. And his scream of anger in phase 2 is so harrowing, reminds me of "UNLIMITED POWER."
"Let it be writ upon thy meagre grave: Felled by Morgott, last of all Kings" God this line is so fucking badass. Elden ring may be the most epic game I've ever played.
that and "forefathers one and all, BARE WITNESS!!!"
And you can tell Godfrey was internally crying for him because of Serosh’s expressions since Serosh represents Godfrey’s true, barbarian side
At the end he couldn't meet his son again. And Morgott never got to know that someone did indeed loved him despite his curse.
Anyone notice how the way his staff shattered in the opening cinematic changed? It went from bursting with flames and red energy to now just the outer shell crumbling away (without the glowing and other effects).
Flames are deemed as heretical, and considering Morgott is so loyal to the Golden Order it makes sense to change it
"Have it writ upon thy meager grave." is such a raw line
🔥 writing
This is literally the hardest cutscene ever this dude slowly made his way up the demigods just to shit talk them all and claim himself as the only royalty with a brain remaining
Have it writ upon my meager grave is the coldest line ever delivered
He IS royalty.
Hardest line ever the word meager gives me goosebumps
I died the instant I killed Morgott. Luckily the game still gave me the win, however I didn't get to talk to him after he died. Glad I found this video, otherwise I would've missed this dialogue.
I didn't even know he laid on the floor on death until I read this comment, I guess I'm just extremely blind LMAO
I did not see my guy as well.
Killed him with that scarlett rot dagger.
I got the rot on him while he was vomitting after that I just kept the distance and he died.
Weirdest boss kill ever.
I did not know you can speak to him after besting him in the fight. I completely missed that 🤦🏼♂️
Crazy, look online for a boss fight of this and see people beeting him in no longer than 8 minutes and meanwhile it takes me 8 minutes to even hit second phase
I killed him in 4 minutes(Spent 3 hours dying before i mastered this fight). He is really hard, especially without a good weapon and ash of war
@@grisaier with proper setup.....you can kill most of main bosses in....less than 2 minutes lol. He dies in 5 hits on my playthrough.....
@@t_kon What did you use?
@@t_kon i seem to be the only human on the planet doing a raw greatsword strength build and its been a fair balance although it takes some time to master the fights and yeah it ended up taking me about 3 mintues lol
@@grisaier +9 bloodhound curve gs, with buffs from the commander banner wep and grafted gs and physick. You deal like ~1.2k per 1 hit of ash of war.
One of my favourites, love the lore of this tragic bastard, and the fight is amazing. It feels like he has an answer to anythjng you can do, but also feels like you can answer back in turn.
Especially fun on a faith build, swapping between melee and punishing his disengage with fireballs.
0:55 Sir, this is a Wendy's...
One of the best fights in any Fromsoft game. Absolutely epic. Right at the base of the Erdtree too.
Its a damn tragedy 2 great warriors had to fall at the foot of the Erdtree.
When I first fought Margit I had to send 6 summons at him and wear him down with Frenzy of Flames from a distance due to how hard he was for me.
When I got here. Learned that he is literally the in lore casual filter boss. I had to give him the respect he deserved and fought him one on one.
One of my favorite gaming moments.
i fought margit 2 ways, one with my OP mage build and the 2nd with my appropriate lvl 20 melee build with a spear and shield. margit and morgott are super fun boss fights that i never grow tired of even when im getting my ass kicked
For me everytime I fight him he just speed blitz me, like I couldnt even get on a single hit my first try
Mohg didn't even have a seat, he's even more reviled than Rykard in that respect lol
I remember he called us foul tarnished, but now he is calling us graceless tarnished
Such a cool moment
"Pillagers emboldened by the flame of ambition" 🔥
"The thrones... Stained by my curse. Such shame i cannot bear." When he said this... Is very sad knowing his lore, knowing how hated he was and how much he loved them all.
Morgott is literally the Uncle Ruckus of Elden Ring.
Love this voice actor's work. Especially how he says Pryke Rykard with such disdain.
Morgott's voice actor is hands down my favourite in the whole game.
I like how he managed to convey so much by saying so little (just by the way he speaks their names you can tell how much he respects Radahn and despises Rykard).
Props to Anthony Howell, he absolutely nailed the part!
I got him on my 2nd try once I pulled out the mimic. Kind of regret doing that and not just going one on one. He deserved that much, such an epic fight
I fought him with Melina and while I loved the fact that you could summon her to fight alongside you, I feel the same.
literally feel the same, I actually just bursted him down together with my mimic in one try :/ Loved this boss from the beginning didnt give him the 1v1 respect thats what I regret
I 1v1’d him, and first tried him because i was overleveled :(
Omen King Morgott, Martyr to the Thrones of Gold, what a fucking legend
Me before shadow of the Erdtree: Mohg you are a freak.
Me after shadow of the Erdtree: I owe you an apology you are a normal guy all along
I wouldn’t say Mohg was normal, but he wasn’t a freak like we all thought.
Mohg finally beat the allegations
@@chrisconstanti9283 Then again - to build a new dynasty, Mohg would NEED another Empyrean to ascend with.
With another candidates being Ranni and Malenia... 😄
