Wow, the whole "Storming Area 51" meme brought this old obscure arcade rail shooter back into the limelight, huh? Honestly speaking though, I remember back when this game was in the old bowling alley along with OutRun and Final Fight. Good times...
This cabinet was at my favorite cinema when I was growing up, my friends and I would always go there early and play some rounds of it before going to our theater.
Oooh, the good old days. Back in 1996, I was preparing for University at an academy and me and my friends used to go to the arcade after class. We would always play Area 51 and Cruisin USA. We eventually finished both games, after a lot of effort.
This was my second favorite arcade game growing up, right behind the lost world jurassic park, but before house of the dead. Believe it or not this game actually got me an A on a physics class field trip. My buddy and i spent all day in the arcade while everyone else rode rollercoasters and what not. So the professor asked what we learned physics wise that day and I replied "A bullet in motion, coliding with an alien at rest, will carry the alien into motion while staying in motion itself." And the next day of class I got an A, thanks Area 51!
Honestly i'd pay money for an expanded Universe of the 1995 Area 51 game with STAAR battling through groom lake fighting off alien virus infected soldiers with a small team being all that stands between Humanities Survival and all out Armageddon something that catches the 2005 game but with this games Universe.
After more than two decades and countless playthroughs I needed your comment in order to notice, for the very first time, that the place where this game is set is called "groom lake". Thanks!
With a free DLC campaign following that soldier in the Hummer during the initial incident. And cover other S.T.A.A.R. Team operations, both pre- and post-Area 51.
sleazyfellow Site 4? The attract mode looked interesting, but the actual gameplay i.e. the short campaign and the mini games, we’re unimpressive to me. I thought the new look of the S.T.A.A.R. members was weird at first, in hindsight, I just needed to enter my ‘linebacker’ style armor phase.
"I was gonna kill these Humans, but then I got high... I was gonna kill them and turn them to zombies but then I got high These humans are killing my friends and I know why.... Because I got high, because I got high, because I got hiiighhhh battadat datttatta..."
Arcade games have to have an ending if they have some type of plot like this. All it is that makes it seem forever is that they make it a lot harder every 2 minutes
Back in the mid to late 90s, my friends and I were in love with this local laser tag place they opened up. Part of it was the awesome laser tag, but at least half that place's appeal was their amazing arcade you could use between matches. Area 51 was probably the machine that my friends and I played the most over the years. I remember beating this game for the first time with one of my best friends when we were like 9 and thinking we were the biggest badasses ever. I miss that place so much and I miss all my friends so much. Childhood is a magical place that you don't realize how special it is until it's over.
Always thought the zombies screamed 'WHOOMP THERE IT IS' after they got shot haha. I probably spent more quarters on this arcade game than any other growing up.
I loved this game but always hated how those allied chracters just pop out of nowhere, my reaction time in that game was always shoot first as soon as they pop up, I killed so many allies in that game.
I remember always playing this at the movie theater arcade when I was 6 or 7 every time me and my mom would go and I could never make it past the first stage. Now thanks to youtube, over 20 years later, I actually get to see the rest of the stages. lol
Lovin’ all the ‘90s cheesiness in this arcade classic I had long but forgotten except for another video discussing the unrelated 2005 FPS console game of the same name. Glad I got to relive the fun times of playing this thing back in my local shopping mall’s arcade even if it was vicariously through a UA-cam longplay video. 😁
I remember seeing this at the arcade, then I saw someone get a game over and didn't want to play it after that. Funny how over 20 years later it popped in to my head.
That game over is legitimately scary, even if doesn’t look top of the line. The part where the alien jumps at the screen made sure I never kept my eyes open during that part.
Oh man this text me back way back in the night is when ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 was in the arcade. Back when Family Fun Zone, Discovery Zone was around. Man those lost Memories
Man this made me remember when I was like 8 I went on a ski vacation to salt lake city Utah and while there my parents went out to a sports bar and this was one of the cabinets they had.
I probably spent hundreds of dollars on this game when it was at this pizza parlor in my town. Also the 'reload reload.' sound effect randomly pops in my head every now and again. It's weird getting older I'm 37 lol
I remember paying this at a laser tag place, forgot where. I never beat it, didn’t have a lot of quarters, but it was fun. Love the fail cutscene. Yep, good ol’Area 51. Kids today will never know the simple pleasure of going to the video store and spend a couple of quarters playing this game while your parents are browsing the titles. Neither will they understand the unreal sense of fulfillment from having a game with arcade quality graphics finally be available at home.
