I'm not sure who else agrees with me, but I think during the kiss scene that the hug is actually much more powerful. It's perfectly easy to kiss someone just to butter them up. The hug showed that she truly cared for him. Perhaps not as a lover, but as someone who cared deeply. That's just my opinion. Gina nailed the hug.

I really appreciate the Christines that pause and take a moment to look at and visually acknowledge the Phantom before going in for the second kiss, kind of a reassurance that she's fully aware of what it is she's doing in that instant. Gina Beck is REALLY good about doing that here.

    • @elliart7432
      @elliart7432 4 роки тому +73

I love that Gina Beck plays the moment as very comforting. I think the point of the line "God give me courage to show you, you are not alone," is to find a compromise to the terrible choice Christine has by showing him "Even though I don't love you, you should've been shown love in any form a long time ago, you should've been able to become a better person." I think that acting decision makes the interaction go from "ooh, pretty girl kissed me" to something much deeper.

He thinks about touching her face, and he almost does. But, because he's socially undeveloped he doesn't dare to touch her and quickly pulls back his hand when she looks up. He certainly has love and compassion in his heart, but he doesn't know how to express it. Spot on, brilliant acting.

Gina Beck is flat out PHENOMENAL. Totally real, raw, and fully alive from moment to moment. Wow! I am so moved by her. I've seen countless live performances of POTO starting with Michael Crawford and Dale Kristien back in the day, and I thought I'd finally found my ultimate Christine in the brilliant Sierra. Well, Gina is a game-changer for me. She completely transformed her scenes, adding dimensions I never even suspected were there, and, in the process, catapulted to the top of my very favorites. It wasn't even like watching a performance as much as seeing the actual character suddenly spring to fully formed three-dimensional life. I am in awe of, and in love with, this woman's talent.

@@karenpinson759 I mean, even for film acting I wouldn't say she's necessarily overacting (it would depend on the film, but she's just using more body language whereas film acting would generally focus more on smaller expressions ig?). At most it's just somewhat stylised, and the whole show is meant to have heavily stylised acting anyway, not just because it's a stage show but because this specific show kind of requires it. I for one think it's great that she has clear facial expressions and body language that communicates character clearly.
I don't know much about acting, though, and I'm sure you know more

At least until I found this! I still think the 25th was slightly better, but this one was phenomenal. The acting, the vocals, the choreo. Everything about it was what embodies this scene in my opinion. Idk who this phantom is, but he's one of the best I've seen. Same with Gina as Christine, and whoever played Raoul. Simply beautiful

3:23 to 3:36 is just...I don't know, I always loved this part of the song. I feel like THIS is the peak, the point where there is no running, Christine HAS to choose one or the other. During the musical, she seems to have a hard time choosing, but now, reality sets in, and Phantom delivers the ultimatum: pick Raoul, and Raoul dies, or pick Erik but be his prisoner, essentially. (And I know, they have feelings for each other, but still.) And everyone has to live (or die) with her choice. Also, I love the long belting of the retUUUUUUUrn at like 3:23 (or wherever it's at). Ok, sorry for the long speech, I'll get off my proverbial soapbox now. (:

I saw it for the first time with this cast and I was enjoying it up to this point but this was the scene that blew me away.
The holding of the notes, the power in the voices, the massive orchestra perfectly building up to the climax at the end, the lingering notes and subtle drum roll at the very end, the spotlight being used so perfectly on the mask exactly like all the posters and playbills bringing the whole experience full circle.
That was the pinnacle of a live stage performance for me. I cried like a bitch.

Although in many opinions his acting was kind a boring here, but I genuinely adore it. The Phantom must be raged, relinquished, devoted, and depressed in this final scene, but he's not THAT aggressive and absolutely not begin to act like a madman according to one of the most acting out there. Mostly in my opinion. And all I want is to know his name.

    3:05-3:13
    3:39-6:40
Well I just have to write about Christine.
Wow, what a beautiful actress, even though I know what is going to happen, she plays in a way that does not betray it.
I loved very much more movements and not just singing.
For example, in the part of the phantom that hangs Raoul, he suddenly comes and grabs his neck, or in the section where Christine protects Raul and the phantom grabs her and threatens her, it just makes it more powerful.
I thought Sierra was good and suddenly I saw Gina ... amazing

I have been struggling for years to figure out a specific performance in my head that when thinking about the show it seems all personal critique is based. I saw several performances in the 2000s featuring JOJ, GM, and HP and I although I’ve recently starting thinking this key is no more than an amalgamation of my 30+ times seeing it I think this might be it as I know I’ve seen this grouping live, amazingly, though I wish it had been more recent and less fuzzy (or rather when I overanalyzed everything like I do now) they’re interactions are based off of each other, simply not rote repetition and I love how the kiss is played. You see this layer of turmoil you don’t always get and JOJ’s arms are perfect, I don’t like when it’s super exaggerated because it lacks in realism for me. Here, he nails the character. Raoul was excellent as well. I don’t want to exclude that because he’s integral to this scene.
